Have my coffee here every morning and my office regularly order from here as well for our morning breakfast. My favorite coffee place every morning as I need at least 2 shots espresso every morning to jump start my brain.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been attending a training course in the CBD. To tell you the truth, the amount of technical information that I need to acquire and memorise can be mind boggling. To help me endure through the day, I require a shot of caffeine to kick start the morning.
To say I am very particular when it comes to drinking coffee would be an understatement. It is not easy to brew up a good cup of quality coffee with so many things that need to take into account.
- Type of coffee beans
- How coffee beans are roasted
- How coffee beans are ground
- Water quality and temperature
- Ratio of ground coffee and water
- Ratio of milk and froth
- Steaming of milk (desired temperature)
- Type of coffee machine may impacts on the outcome of a coffee
- Skill and experience of a barista
How would I judge a cup of exceptional coffee. There are certain things that need to avoid.
1. Request to have your coffee extra hot (the result is burned coffee/burned milk or both).
2. Add sugar to the coffee (destroyed the coffee aroma and flavour).
3. Busy time and long queue (no matter how good a barista is, the amount of care maybe affected).
Before heading to the training facility, I stopped by a cafe (Kaefei) to order a cup of coffee to prepare myself for a long training session. When a waitress delivered a latte to my table, I could smell the robust aroma. Upon that first sip, it had that delightful smoothness and depth. The organic coffee beans used exhibit a hint of natural sweetness.
At first, I thought it could be a one hit wonder. The following day, I went back to have another coffee...same result (excellent coffee). I had a chat with the barista, he told me he is still plying his trade on how to make better coffee every day despite having a wealth of experience. I said to him I would most definitely miss your coffee when my training is finished.
Over the years, one thing I've noticed is that dine-in standard latte glass and the take-out paper cup vary in size, hence the coffee would taste very different. So I decided to order a take-out coffee from Kaefei to prove my point, I was intrigued to find that the paper cup (small) was crafted to the same size as the latte glass. In my opinion, the coffee was as good as diner-in one if not better.
VERDICT:
This cafe ticks all the boxes for great consistent coffee. Attention to details and a highly skilled barista with a passion and love for coffee. I would give it 2 coffee beans out of three.
Had breakfast and lunch here several days in a row, great service, beautiful casual-city cafe environment and good quality food. And desert. Definitely have a sweet tooth at all cafes and restaurants. Recommended

Have been coming here for a while now and have always found the food and coffee to be excellent...especially their egg and bacon rolls with homemade chutney!
Nice place. Always a friendly welcome and spare table to enjoy a decent coffee in between client meetings.
I love the hot chocolate there. My office is on Collins St but I'm willing to get off at Flagstaff station,walk 100 meters to the cafe' to order a hot chocolate then walk to my office on Collins St. every morning.
Brilliant Place Overall!. Ahh, I look forward to a brilliant breakfast and great coffee whenever I'm in the city before a hectic schedule ahead - and Kaefei delivers! Jim and his staff are warm, welcoming and quick on service - even finding time to share a joke or have a quick chat. The environment is spacious yet cosy and the soft jazzy or ambient music that plays in the background is just right for that time of day. The food is excellent quality, fresh and varied. The coffee is very good too. Their prices are very reasonable and their location is ideal. Even their rest-rooms have classy decor and are very clean - probably the only loos I'll use in town :)! These guys have got it right from the smallest detail to the biggest request (I think they do catering too - not 100% sure though). So if you're looking for brilliant service, food and environment - this is the place to go. Well done Kaefei and I wish you all the best!
Love this place!! Beautiful fresh food and friendly staff! Always a great mix of hot dishes & the salads and focaccia are really lovely. Prices are very reasonable and it's a spacious modern setting. This place is packed with regulars at lunchtimes because it is easily the best lunchtime spot around the court precinct.
Just next to the my office,fresh salads and reasonable prices.
