Great range of tasty malaysian dishes. Really enjoy the four kings of beans with sambal sauce, and the yam ring basket. Been here a few times and will always go back for more.

Love the ying yong stir fry noodles which is hardly available here in Melbourne. It’s very delicious and I’m sure I will visit again very soon. The curry noodles soup tastes different to most places too. Can tell it’s homemade and cooked with love especially the fried fish which is generous in portion and very fresh.

It's a family affair at Penang Village. It's run by a cute family with mum and dad serving and cooking while the kids help out in the background.

It was good to see that the place was bustling on a Saturday afternoon. We had the char kuay teow which was tasty and full of the beautiful wok undertones. It was a bit soggy though but the bits of crunchy lard made up for that.

The fish head curry noodle was stellar! There were curry leaves in the broth and the meaty fish head pieces were fried well.

The chicken satay skewers were a mild disappointment though. The peanut sauce was fantastic but the chicken meat was quite bland.

Prices were very reasonable and quantities were abundant. Service was lovely.

Definitely a keeper!

Tried the Penang style hokkien mee, and it was a hit. What I love about this place was they didn’t immediately clear our table when we finished the food. Some restaurants tend to do that as a hint to order more or to ask you to leave. This place was totally cool. Will patronise again.

Food is always good. Favourite is the pan fried pork dumplings. Servings are generous and very good value.
Donovan is always friendly and welcoming.
It has become our regular local dine in and take away.

Best Char Kway Teow and Penang Assam Laksa in Melbourne. Ah Ben and his wife are great hosts and very generous with their food. You will not be disappointed with their local dishes.

We are great lovers of Malaysian food so time to try something a little more local.

Staff were lovely as they accommodated the four of us. We were in a little rush to get to the movies but no hassles there - they cook fast.

Food portions are large so you will probably end up taking some food home in a takeaway container.

Mee Goreng was good. Satays great. The roti and sauce was much liked by everyone.

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking out the front. Takeaway available.

This restaurant has become our family staple. Reliable, good quality and authentic Malaysian cuisine. Chef and staff very friendly. If unsure what to eat, simply ask their recommendation and I’ve never been let down. Both their noodle/hawker dishes or rice and ordering mains are so good! Best Malaysian place in the east in my opinion

Tried a selection of items from the menu. Assam laksa, curry laksa, CKT and wat tan hor. All pretty decent tasting offerings. Teh tarik was not up to scratch but the food made up for it.

Super impressive CKT ...

The former Nyonya Hut, it has changed name and owner, not much change interior wise, looks much simpler and brighter.

Still the no nonsense set up, easy menu to navigate, ordered Hawker street food favourites; CKT _ Char Koay Teow/Char Kwee Tiaw and Ipoh Hor Fun ... SUPER generous portions, very well presented.
Ipoh Hor Fun was cooked well too, overloaded egg gravy, just missing saltiness ... on the near bland side.
CKT came with a Pandan leaf, nice touch and most importantly tasty, tantalising, well cooked CKT with all the trimmings, crispy pork skin, all the right ingredients and just delightful.

Limited desserts, those Jellies were ordinary, need to work on that.

Overall, so glad we stopped by tonight, truly delighted by their super impressive CKT. JT-23/06/2018.

Delicious Malaysian cuisine. Thumbs up. My favourite dishes are the Curry Laksa, Assam Laksa and the Hainaese Chicken Rice - very tasty indeed! (Don’t forget to have the sambal chilli sauce along with your meal! Added bonus and really authentic) Will be back again for more dishes, best Malaysian restaurant this side of town.

I was recommended to come here by Malaysians who were recommended by other Malaysians etc... It seems to come highly recommended by Malaysians! :P The restaurant serves delicious, well-priced and large hawker dishes. It's quite popular and gets fairly busy. Char kuey teow (asked for mild spice and it was perfect) and Ipoh char hor fun were so delicious, although char kuey teow lacked a bit of wok char and smokiness. Penang asam laksa and har mee had really flavoursome broths and were also really delicious. Although I'm no expert, I would agree that this was some of the best Malaysian food in Melbourne.

Penang Village is a fantastic restaurant that includes beautiful, hearty and delicious food, nice decor and clean restaurant! The waitresses don’t understand to much English but still manage to get my order right every time!!! I recommended this very much to everyone!

We had fried Kuay Teow and Assam laksa and I have to say the Fried Kuay Teow is superb! The Kuay Teow is slightly thinner than the common thick one here and the flavour balance is good. It has to be the top 3 Char Kuay Teow in Melbourne and probably my #1 go to for Char Kuay Teow.

My husband ordered Assam Laksa. He likes the Assam laksa but said that it does not come with prawn paste (har gou). Not every place has har gou though. I enjoyed the flavours of the soup. It comes with chunky fish meat in the soup which was really good. But careful with the cut bird-eye chilli inside the soup.

Something about the flavours that taste a lot like home. 😊

First off, food is excellent. The char kuay teow and laksa were perfect, as was the sambal chilli. Laksa is better than Flemington Laksa King's IMO, this has an additional level of texture Laksa King lacks. CKT is flavoursome without being overly spicy. It reminds me of the CKT Madam Kwong's Kitchen (Box Hill) used to serve, before it was sold off.

But parking is a bit of a pain; the turnoff to get there can be a bit tricky. Seats are pretty limited. Facilities are new and well-constructed, especially the toilets. Would recommend you get there early for lunch, before 12:30pm. Would most definitely return.

First time here as a local. Food was good, nice to see lots of locals. Food came out haphazardly but what came was lovely. Ordered tea but that never arrived. Staff were friendly but had no idea how to run front of house. We'll go again but maybe midweek when they aren't so busy.

Food was quite nice, but we booked via zomato and they reckon we didn't have a booking. Then they forgot to give tea cups, forgot to make our calamari dish and finally gave us hot water instead of cold water! They apologised but they need to improve!

Had a pleasantly enjoyable meal at Penang Village today. The char koay teow was a generous portion and pretty tasty. Reckon the weekend chef is different from the night time weekday one, as my last CKT at Penang Village wasn't as memorable. Other dishes sampled were curry laksa, nasi lemak with beef rendang and Hainanese chicken rice. Had my Malaysian food fix so was pleased.

First time at Penang Village, am on a quest to find good Malaysian in the east. We ordered the Hainese Chicken rice and BBQ chicken rice. Both were yum and will definitely be back to try the Laksa's which look great.

21 September 2017: brought a friend here. We ordered curry laksa and cha kwei teow. We both loved these two dishes. The laksa broth was yummy, the liao (ingredients) was substantial and delicious. The ckt had wok smell and tasted great. The service was with smiles and attention. Suzanne came to have a short chat with us after all customers were served. House was almost full. Will definitely come again.

18 June 2017: came alone. Had hey mien (small dried prawn noodle) as recommended in a food chat group called MELBOURNE MAKAN MAKAN. yummy especially the sambal

06 June 2017: Came here with Jeffrey Tan. Please see photos of dishes we ordered. Yummy

25 April 2014: Came here with an Executive chef. He ordered char kwei teow and I ordered laksa. We shared. My assessment of the laksa is 5*/5 and 4.5 * for the ckt.
The place was crowded (btw this restaurant was opened only two weeks ago). A few had to sit down on the benches and wait for their turn. I had cendol and asked for more gula melaka. The waitresses were young and attentive. All wore the same uniform ( please don't expect a 5* hotel uniform)

Super yummy. A new entrant to the area I think they are still trying to find their feet. Currently no liquor license or dessert menu. I look forward to returning to try more items on the menu.

One of the latest newcomer to the Malaysia street food scene in suburbia Melbourne's East, Penang Village has taken up residence in the now defunct Lim's Nyonya Hut. Discovered through word of mouth from a family member, we decided to give it a go.

As it was a cold day, we went with the noodle soups - curry laksa with roast  pork and the Assam laksa. Both were amazing. Full flavoured, bold (and I mean really really bold) and generous serves. You can tell these guys are out to make an impression. However I feel there's still room for improvement particularly in the service area. Couple of things based on my observation/experience:

Have the bowls, chopsticks and spoons ready at each table. The waitress was literally grabbing the cutlery from the drawer four times, each time when they came out with our food. Given we were sharing, it was quite disruptive to have to interrupt their pattern each time to ask for the necessary paraphernalia. Secondly, and this is more a personal view, the high bowls make sharing a challenge especially when you're trying to grab noodles out into a serving bowl and being mindful not to spill and splatter.

Anyway like I said, lots of potentials and am definitely adding it to my watch & eat list. Will be back sooner to try the rest of the menu.

Edit 14/09: Upgrading the rating from 3.5 to 4.0. We came back for dinner the previous night and the service has definitely improved as per my comments previously. It was above and beyond. That said, we were there early before the dinner crowd arrived. This time round, we went with dishes and rice. We had high expectations of the the belachan kangkung but felt it was a bit PG-rated. The stewed pork belly and tofu was nice albeit a little polite in serving size. Finally the fish in baba sauce was a bit of a newcomer - can't quite get that taste yet but overall delicious. Once again there's potential and I'd like to see the flavours turned up a couple of notches and make it MA-rated.

Penang has always been a place I want to visit because of its well known food culture!!!! I've learnt this from a ex-colleague from Penang...Discovered this restaurant driving past so my wife and I tried this place out and found the food quality to be really decent. The chefs are very experienced and cook decent food. The wok chi in the stir fried food is very strong and really tasty!!! Highly recommended!!!!

Fantastic Char Kway Teow, most authentic to Singapore style, fish head curry was great and generous, with rojak and cendol delicious and tasty. Great Penang style Chinese food with delicious flavors and tastes, food portions are great with fantastic service from chef owner Ah Ben and wife Ann, the yam basket was smooth and well stocked, the pork hog was tender and juicy with full of tasty mushrooms and smooth black moss, the salted egg King prawns to die for, it was so delicious. Definitely the go to place for authentic Penang Chinese food and delicacies.

Tried out another Malaysian place on the east suburbs. Their Yam Basket with Prawn Cutlets is very good. Loads of flavour and very authentic. Highly recommend this. Their Chicken Rice and Chee Cheong Fun were average only and not memorable. I feel this place is good for calling dishes to share.
