Review Torasan Ramen - Melbourne

Mariama
Tasty dishes with Vegan options. Cheesecake Matcha & bungeoppang is my absolute favourite. Welcoming vibe with friendly staff. Reasonable prices for all meals.

The pictures of the food outside the restaurant is very tempting. Went across this ramen place many times and Finally decided to give it a go. Quite a small venue but main seating is upstairs. Interesting that you just order from the tablets at a time but down fall is that you cannot make all the order at once! We ordered couple of dishes, Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Karaage, pork gyoza, Torasan Miso Ramen and beef hamburger curry. Spicy Teriyaki chicken karaage in all honesty wasn’t spicy at all and more sweet. Gyoza was okay but ramen was just average. That curry could have been a lot better with some veggies or seasoning in it just like in the pictures. Service was okay. Can’t really say about service as all they do is bring food at the table and take payment( no hi, no smile😶) Overall, was okish.

The ramen is good. Soup is tasty. Price is reasonable and great value for money. staff is courteous and attentive. Happy hour Kirin beer goes well with tapas serving of fried chicken and small plates. Overall a good place for a quick lunch or dinner.

Ramen broth is super tasty 👍 The curry is nice ! Inside is really cozy. Value for money is perfect !

Limited seating downstairs but more space upstairs. Can order on iPad. Plastic models of food in the windows. Ramen and other Japanese dishes available.

Really tasty ramen and fried chicken, but the tonkatsu ramen was a bit salty last time
Lelf (Lelf)
I had their miso ramen. It was only about $13 and was a nice decent sized serving. Definitely enough to fill me up, but for those who need more to be full, extra noodles was only like $1.5 or $3. The upstairs dining area felt so nice. The atmosphere was definitely 10/10.

Super amazing service I had salmon sushi and chicken katsu curry and it was super delightful and what I actually needed after a long day. The waitress was very friendly and you just at t order everything on a screen which is like being back in japan 🇯🇵 the price was super decent. Must try #melbourne

A friend and I came here for dinner one night back when they still did the 2 for 1 Zomato Gold offer.

We came a little later in the evening and were immediately seated and shown how to order on the tablets. I tried the Spicy Miso Ramen which I found to be quite average tasting. The food was served quickly and with the Zomato Gold discount, it was very decent for the price (2 for $13). However, there are many better ramen joints nearby that I would much rather visit when I'm in the area.

The Karaage curry don was good although I opted for the spicy and rich taste which was slightly underwhelming as I expected a much larger kick from the curry. The karaage itself was very good though, juicy and crunchy

Sometimes we need to order in the downstairs, this is a bit annoying. But they served quickly, tastes good

Its ok. Nothing too exceptional. Portion was average - I think ajisen was a lot bigger. My partner finished his Ramen while I was still waiting for mine. I ordered maybe 5 min after he did. Took 15min later after his to come for me

Nice place and very quick service! I have ordered Kala ramen, which wasn’t spicy as their menu promised, which I’m still ok with as I was worrying that it would be too spicy hehe but the ramen was average as such. Not a bad place to go, but nothing really special, so 4 is enough.
The Casual Diner
I’ll preface this review that this was probably a tough day for the only chef/waiter day for this noodle joint. He was clearly under staffed, but that is also a show of the consequence of their planning. They were only serving ramen in this session, and service was a little patchy per above. That was not really the issue. The issue was we had 2 bowls of ramen with veg that hasn’t been washed properly and were a little “gritty”. Never good. That kind of threw the night off. The flavors of the soup was good otherwise, and the amount of meats on offer for their classic miso ramen was generous. So, no complaints there. We probably just came on an off day, but it would be a while before we brave another session back here again ..

Always walked past this place on Elizabeth St and since it’s on Zomato Gold, I decided to give it a try. The offer excludes set meals. But they allow you to order different dishes 👍🏻

Ordered their signature Miso Ramen ($13) & Chicken Katsu Ramen ($15). Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy it 🍜 . There are way better ramen joints out there such as Hakata Gensuke or Ippudo.

Wasn’t that great, probably would never come back. But wouldn’t complain much with the Zomato Gold discount, lives up to that discounted price expectation standard.

Very plain broth without very much flavour. One of the least memorable ramens I've tried.
Also, it's very surprising that a restaurant runs out of vegetarian options in peak of lunch time.
Jeremy Rei Cole
The miso ramen was alright. The broth was quite salty for my liking.
The real star was the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice though! The Katsu had good thickness and the meat was super tender, whilst keeping a nice crunchy outer layer. The sauce was nice too with a slightly spicy kick. Would definitely return to have this again! Kirin beer on tap is an added bonus!
WK
Their soup broth for miso ramen tastes so awful, the pork slice inside is so dry. overpriced ramen
Ed
Miso was a little rich, but the spicy ramen was very nice

This Japanese restaurant have cheap drinks and variety of main dishes and japas. The place itself looks big from outside when in fact it is quite small and seating is only first floor. It's not wheelchair accessible so beware. Service is very good and accommodating. The spicy chicken and miso chicken is juicy and of a smaller portion but just nice for 1 person.
This is a nice place for lone diner who wants to have a quick and stress-free meal. While this restaurant is supposed to be a ramen restaurant, their ramens are actually very average, I’ll say 6/10. I normally come here for other food choice, especially the big plate Teishoku. However, the place has been going down gradually. The order tablets keep frozen. The Teishoku is always out-of-order or sold-out.
Makan
Nice little lunch spot. Had the miso ramen and it came out quickly. The broth was delicious with that miso salty flavour. However the noodles was not hard enough and there were no choice to sweet the chewiness. The roast pork was slightly tough.

Overall I like the place for its relaxing atmosphere. The meal was filling and I will probably be back to try some other selection.

Mainly japanese people working here which is a good start.

The service was fast and friendly. Was introduced to the menu and also informed what was their specialty.

Tried the signature ramen which was surprisingly good for a chicken soup base.

Katsu curry was thick, full of vegies and cripsy katsu.

Only downside was it was a tad on the saltier side.

Reasonably priced. $12-20pp

I got the spicy Miso ramen. It was good but the soup was too salty

This place is my go to for takeaways since its close to where I live. Great flavour, affordable prices, friendly staff. What more can I ask? :)

Eat Good Melbourne
Was craving something warm and soupy on a late Friday night and with a line for shujinko I decided to try the big tiger restaurant on the corner. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and pork gyoza. The food came out pretty quick. The ramen wasn’t very spicy so I added some (or a lot) chilli oil which turned out to be delicious. They don’t have an option for noodle texture but they were quite hard which I prefer. There was one piece of chashu which was okay. The mince was really tasty. Overall not bad, there are other ramen spots I’d pick first but if you’re in the vicinity and don’t want to line up for a feed it works.

Went to this place for the first time last night.
Ordered chicken curry katsu. Surprised it was served only minutes after being ordered.
My partner ordered a spicy ramen set.
Clearly not fresh food as I ended up with a bout of food poisoning.
Wont be coming back to this place ever again..

My rating: 3.5

I wasn't too sure if I wanted to try this place, had walked past it a few times but never seem that busy but then I could be deceived as today when I wandered in, I discovered that upstairs is the dine-in restaurant, and the ground floor is take-away only.

🔆LOCATION🔆
Torasan Ramen is a very large restaurant which is located on Ground Floor of 410 Elizabeth Street apartment/commercial building on the corner of A'Beckett Street next to NeNe Chicken.

As you walk in, I didnt really get much of an impression, it seemed a bit confusing.
On the wall there are 2 machine's with a screen where you can view the menu and order your take-away. It seems like everything is automated, therefore no service.

This is similar to when you're in Japan, you order ramen through a vending machine. I dont think this has really hit the Australian-market yet.
On the right hand side of the entrance there is an open fridge which has pre-made sushi, onigiri and other cold items for take-away. I had a look but nothing really caught my eye.

One thing I would like to say is that there should be better signage just inside the entrance to direct people to go upstairs for dine-in.

🔆SERVICE🔆
Once I walked up the flight of stairs, I was greet by 1 of 2 waitress who led me to bench counter which was lined up with touch-screen monitor screen which has the menu for you to put your order through. The waitress asked if I have been here before which I replied no and she patiently showed me how to use it. It was very straight forward and easy. She also provided me with some tea.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
It seems their specialty is ramen and there are alot set specials and happy hour specials. As I scrolled through to look at my choices I decided to try:

Yuzu Shio Ramen, $12.20

The screen show a really good photo of the dish and a detailed description. You click through and you can select type of noodle (Standard or Spinach), click next and you can add a side dish for extra $2, click next to review your order and click on OK to send order to the kitchen.

How easy and straight forward is that? Nice!

🔆VERDICT🔆

The bowl of ramen was of a really decent portion. However the ramen itself was overcooked which was disappointing. The soup broth was light and refreshing with the yuzu flavour a nice change from the heavy broth that is standard with ramen. I was particularly impressed with the large thick peice of pork. The pork was super tender and had such amazing flavour! Gosh it was soo yummy, I really wanted 1 more slice of it !! I dont know what they marinate it with but the thickness of the pork is so good and juicy, much better than the standard super thin slice you normally get.

Overall Torasan does have potential, but it just needs a change of its service and also up-ing the standard of cooking the ramen properly. I think the front entrance of the restaurant can do with a better upgrade to make it more welcoming. They have spent so much on IT system with capability of online orders which is great and should be a feature of this restaurant but it just doesnt really show.

Was around this area, Elizabeth Street after viewing one property for sale at A’Beckett street. 1st time trying out this restaurant which is on the 1st floor. Staff are friendly and efficient. However sitting area are abit closed to each other. Anyway we ordered salmon on rice come with miso soup. Prices are pretty standard from elsewhere. A place for quick lunch.
Mustard
I steered clear of this restaurant for awhile as the reviews were quite mixed but I finally took a plunge once some decent ones started to roll through. We went upstairs and ordered via their ipad service.

I got a combination of gyoza along with their signature ramen. The gyoza was okay, perhaps a little more time on the fryer to get it nice and crisp.

Their Torasan Miso ramen is their Hokkaido style ramen, not sure if I've had it before. Was expecting to see a knob of butter (maybe it had been mixed in already) but the corn was clearly visible. At first I thought the broth was very salty and it is, but it was quite addictive and rich, an unmistakable fermented soybean flavour, earthy and heavy on the umami. Not shy to say but I almost drank all of it. The chashu was very soft and slightly charred, mixed in was some minced chicken and half an egg. The noodles however was a bit of a let down, a bit too soft for my preference (normal). On the ipad that was the only option available.

Plenty of seating when I went, priced well with the combo and was convenient with the ipad ordering system.
I ❤️ Food
👌 the staff are all friendly as it was our first time to dine here.. i love their ramen and curry. The place is cute. Will definitely come back to try other dishes

We had a wonderful Friday night here. Good price, good environment, good food and such an awesome place to drinking with friends. We will come back :)

Found Torasan ramen after my local ramen shop discontinued my favourite Tan-Tan men with broth (they just left it as dry only option) and to see Tan-Tan men on menu was a joy. I was a little skeptical though but still ordered it anyway. The ramen as my rating suggests was absolutely mind blowing and exactly how I liked Tan-tan men. Staff is super friendly and ambience is nice, been here couple of times and left fully satisfied.

P.s. Try their Matcha, they are nice (Guava is my fav)

(3.5)

On my most recent visit, I was greeted by friendly staffs upon entering.

There are two floors, just a bit downstairs as mostly are on the 2nd floor. I never went upstairs but the seats downstairs are pretty private and ambience were good. Ordering can be done through the tablet provided on the tables.

I was looking at the meals in the fridge as it's near closing time and everything are on sale. I finally got a tuna mayo onigiri and a poke bowl.

I had the onigiri heated, and it was really filling on its own. Regarding the taste it was okay, tuna wasn't very generous and the whole thing was just a lil bit too flavourful, too much mayo too.
Poke bowl was a bit small in size but was really worth the value ($3 from $4.5). Vegs were pretty fresh, I can't tell if the salmon were fresh because of they were covered in spicy mayo but they're not stingy with it which was a plus. It's more of a side though as there were no rice.

All in all the refrigerated meals are really worth checking out.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.
I have been eating "Teriyaki Salmon Teishoku" in Torasan Ramen since September 2016. At that time, Torasan recently opened. Besides salmon, rice, miso soup and assorted fruits, there are mixed vegetables, french fries, 2 potato croquettes, 1 gyoza and a small bowl of kimchi. Until the middle of 2017, if I remember it correctly, the gyoza is gone and kimchi is replaced by potato salad. At first, this made me a little bit unsatisfied, but I think that's okay as the main star is the salmon and the food quality is still the same.

What I was very disappointed about is it has been multiple times that the food quality decreases. I noticed that if I eat before the normal dinner hour (let's say 6 pm-ish), it seems my food is the leftovers from the afternoon batch. The french fries and potato croquettes are quite cold. Moreover, the salmon is sometimes not warm. The same goes with the french fries; they are quite hard to chew. In fact, I really like your potato croquettes; they are delicious, if and only if they are warm or just cooked.

I have submitted several feedback through the self-order device, but I am not sure whether the device records my feedback properly. The reason I usually have a dinner before 6 pm (i.e. around 5:45 pm-ish) is in order to get a seat because Torasan is usually crowded at the dinner hour.

It has been an unpleasant experience for me as I have been eating in Torasan for almost 2 years. I don't think I will go back here again, or I may have a dinner exactly or after the dinner hour, not too early.

A cool japanese spot serving funky matcha drinks and good food. Been here a few times and the food is pretty consistent. The sushi pizza is pretty good.

Visited for lunch, was super excited to try Ramen here. They did good it comes in a large bowl with generous serving. Broth and noodles both were good, meat was tender and overall mildly spicy. Service was quick, recommended to Ramen fans. Happy Eating!!
Some Bunee Loves Food
The ramen here is pretty good. The broth is very flavourful and nice and I am quite picky about the broth as it makes or breaks the dish. The noodles are thin and chewy. Meat is succulent and tender. Love it.

We went as a group and manage to get a seat for 6 ppl. Even though it was a little cramped. We were surprised how fast the beer came once we placed an order. But food wise, we got chicken curry, gyoza and ramen. Food was good but the portion was on the smaller size. Great interior, warm and cosy for an evening bite with friends
Anna
I love this place. Very relaxed atmosphere, great comfort food. The service is always so friendly, greeted warmly by the staff when you walk in the door.
Food is the main drawcard, of course. The ramen is very generously portioned. My favourite dish, the vegetable ramen, is delicious, hot, and full of flavour. Beer available, lots of side dishes and deserts on offer too.
The ambience is good – multi-level, lots of light, with modern Japanese decor. A choice of tables, booths or seating at a bar. You order from a tablet on your table. The staff happily walks you through the process when you arrive, it's simple and no fuss, and you can take your own time.

Came here for my second dinner of the night - food and service was alright. You order from the small tablet and can even customise there. So I decided to have shoyu ramen with a side of gyoza. Shoyu ramen was super salty (is it just me??), I normally would finish the soup but this time I couldn't even finish half. The gyoza were nice, crispy and juicy inside. Note: It was way warmer upstairs so make sure you ask the waitress to show you the way!
The Dear Luncher
Tora-san is one of the greatest Japanese cinematic characters, and The Dear Luncher is a culinary star so automatic good-vibes. As vibrant as the namesake’s acting career, Torasan is a multi-level establishment. Downstairs you have takeaway options and some seating. Upstairs in the main restaurant hub with Kirin Beer station as well. Beer stations are infinitely better than any other form of station you can think of.

I came across Torasan ramen purely by chance when I was in Melbourne for Animaga. I'm glad my curiosity got the better of me because I'm so glad to have eaten there.

I had the Hokkaido ramen which was rich, delicious and true to the ramen you'll find in Hokkaido. The ramen had plenty of toppings and was tailored to my tastes perfectly.I was a little apprehensive about drinking the matcha beer but I gave it a chance and I'm very happy to say the matcha beer is delicious and refreshing!

Everyone at Torasan Ramen was delightful and I felt sad as I was paying my bill and left.

I live in Sydney and Torasan Ramen is a good enough reason for anyone to visit Melbourne to try 1000% authentic Ramen.

Friendly Staff. Order by ourselves through pad on each table. Peaking hours start at 7pm or so. I ordered salmon teriyaki curry. don't know how to describe its tastes 🙃🙂🙃 pls look how I rated.
Fatcat
So warm and toasty - perfect location for a quick dinner on a blisteringly cold Melbourne night. The little partitions between tables make it very snug and cute. The variety of matcha boosters on offer were novel; they also have aburi salmon on rice (not something you can find anywhere as it turns out) and for the price point it’s pretty good.
Laurence Song
First time been here, match beer is as good as Maedaya, Teishoko set is really really decent size,
Ordered Hokkaido ramen, broth tasted really nice and rich, grilled pork is a bit dry and I am not a bean shoots fan therefore a bit too much bean shoots for me. Like the little fridge at front for people in rush to grab a snack on the way to work or home. Will go back to try other dishes.
Ivan Lee
Am surprised by the ratings as we decided to have a meal here after looking at the reviews on Google. The prices are really decent and the Hokkaido Miso Ramen is flavourful. Curry katsu don was decent too and I appreciated that both dishes had a bit of veg in them which can't be said for most Ramen places. Would I come again? You betcha, but I'll be trying more Ramen flavours.
Emily Robinson
Soo delicious, very cheap authentic Japanese food 😍Staff super friendly and gave me me a big travel cup of green tea for free with my order. Thanks so much, cant wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! :)

Been here few times before, but today i came back here to have miso ramen for my birthday and it was really nice. The staff was really friendly also. However, there are few things that i think can make your ramen better. First, reduce the saltiness. Another thing is that the smashed beef should be optional because i did not feel like the broth and smashed beef go well together. Cheers!

This restaurant is great! I don't understand these bad reviews. I went there just last week and the food we had was delicious. The whole experience was amazing, the staff were friendly and helpful, the place was cosy and comfortable, the food came out quickly; it could not have been better.
Zacquilinelao
The service was great and very nice staff!!! Food was pretty good and all the pictures on the menu looked so good I had such a hard time deciding what to eat! The matcha cheese cake was a little too bitter but overall an enjoyable experience.5)3 atmosphere was wonderful and I liked the idea of having 2 songs playing :)
The_littlehungrylife
Wandering around the city with hubby, we stumbled across this ramen restaurant. The place has been styled beautifully and the food is quiet reasonably priced. The service was great and I did enjoy my matcha mango drink. However the ramen was too oily, which didn’t sit to well in my stomach.

A vibrant and cosy ramen joint is what you'll find at Torasan ramen, alongside their adorable tiger mascot which is easily found on their storefront and bowls you can be sure to find some affordable comfort food that will soothe your soul on a cold day.
Japapa
I finally had a chance to try this place somehow.
Because of the shop name and big original designed tiger mascot... told me this is not authentic ramen.
So I always avoided even I had known here since they opened.
Anyway I ordered soy sauced base ramen and dumplings set.
Umm... dumplings were bit undercook?
center was just warm. And main dish ramen, soup and noodle was nothing special. It was just better than instant noodle for me. Char shu pork was good size, but it was not juicy at all. Pricing is same as other ramen place and inside shop was not cleaned enough. So No point to come back here for ramen. Only one Positive point was that staffs were very friendly and kind:)
Yuna53
I've been to Torasan Ramen a few times and always enjoy Miso Ramen there. Salmon Don for Take-away is also nice. Salmon there is very fresh and tasty. One of my fev place to have lunch. It's also great place to chill out with your friends coz they've got a few table in a booth which is like half private room:)
If you don't wanna wait for your meal so long, you should go there bit later than 1pm. No photo for miso ramen tho special teishoku I had today(pics) was nice too❤️❤️
Rahman Omarzay
Worst place I have ever been to!!!

1) absolutely no respect for customers. Treated as like criminals even though we had 4+ dishes, to the point where we didn’t even feel like eating our meal anymore.

2) we brought in takeaway to take home with us in a bag and left it on the side. They came up to us and said no external food allowed even though it was sealed and tucked away next to us to take home.
Nonetheless, we apologised.

3) at the end we got handed the bill and to our surprise they charged us $15 per head “service fee” for bringing the bags in. They claimed their policy stated that but when confronted about it, they could not show us the policy in writing.

I will never step foot in this place again and I highly suggest any fellow zomato users not to either.

ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC, DISGUSTING AND UNREASONABLE WORKERS/RESTAURANT!!!!

Still shocked with the way we were treated.
Leonardo Mezavilla
the food is very fresh, everything is very tasty.
The place cheated, when you get in think the restaurant is not good, but after asking is surprised.
the service is also very good!
JC
I think your dining experience here will really depend on what you order. My ramen dish was great whereas my partner’s katsu curry don was bland, dry and came with katsu that was 80% crumb and only 20% meat. I suggest stick to the ramen.

Ordered to Torasan Miso Ramen to take away. Quick and friendly staff. Ramen was sweeter than I’ve had before but not overbearing. I had a great time at torasan ramen :)!
My fav meal is sushi ! Salmon here is same quality as Japan or even better!
My friend ordered Daily special which was great deal too. Big portions and 2 main dishes for $17.8 is good values:)
All staff are friendly and kind:) Their iPad systems entertained us!
I’ll definitely come back here again!
Thank you :)

The service is the only reason I gave some rates for this place. It’s a typical example of poor quality food franchise. It’s hard to find a good Japanese restaurant in CBD area.
PascoeVale命
Great food. My favourite restaurant in Melbourne. I also love the takeaway menu. My favoriate is Onigiriza and Tamagoyaki. The service is also great.
Wilson Joanna
Do not go here if you want a proper Bento lunch. Paid $11.50 for 4 pieces of undercooked chicken, a broccoli and 2 slices of sashimi. This is overpriced for the amount of food you get.

Staff was friendly.
Brendan Ho
Well the mecha beer is something you remember to not have them there. The same thing with the Ramen, you either love them if its your first time in Melbourne for their easy convenience or hate them if you have tried a number of ramen in melbourne.

Torasan is located on the corner of Elizabeth and A'Beckett Street. It is not easily spotted if you’re coming from Franklin street because the Nene Chicken sign pretty much covers the small Torasan Ramen sign. Once you’re standing in front of the store, however, its not hard to miss the large signage indoors with a large (and super cute) tiger mascot.

The interior is quite narrow upon entering, but opens up to a larger space on the side and an upstairs dining area. Most of the tables were equip with tablets enabling the diners to order after perusing the menu, speeding up the dining process.

The service was great - meals arrived quite quickly and the staff were very friendly.

Check out the review of Torasan Ramen in the blog post below.
Flying Forward
Points for: value meal & drink combinations, casual drinking atmosphere
Torasan is a bit like food-court style and quality...maybe just above.
It's an average experience here, nothing to really complain or write about, which is why the average score.
Decent flavour from the ramen stock and noodles are a bit on the thicker side which is nice.
I do like their specials and deals/packages, with gyoza and beer being one of them.
Probably aimed at the uni students or backpackers in the area.
Give it a go for good value, ambience and a quick ramen/beer/gyoza fix.

Torasan Ramen is a vibrant and cheerful eatery that spans over 2 floors to allow plenty of seating. Ordering is DIY at your convenience via the ipad which is simple and easy to use. Food here is good value and delicious. Would recommend trying out. Hokkaido Torasan Miso Ramen $12 with extra Egg (+$1) and extra Cha-syu (+$3)

Saturday lunch. Greeted by enthusiastic waitress who gestured to the upper level dining room. Comfortable seating, fast diner vibe. iPad used for ordering from fairly extensive menu, although there were a few connection issues on the day. Staff were attentive and informative though, so ordering was no problem. Went with the Hokkaido-style miso ramen, with additional egg, pork slice and extra ramen noodles to be served later. Not the best. The ramen was not the expected silky, bitey type, but more so the curly, instant type. Slightly overdone. The soup was an ok, miso flavouring mild, and the added bean sprouts, corn kernels and spring onion gave it some contrasting texture. Pork slice was thick cut, with crispy crackle and blended decently with the mild miso in the soup. Egg was boiled in shoyu, lightly flavoured, but cooked just right. Extra noodles was more of the same, probably shouldn't have committed so early, but came out fairly quick when requested. Overall impression: good service staff, fast dining ambience, extensive menu that looks interesting and might warrant a return, but probably not for ramen.
Daniel Tham
Food was terrible and was not up to expectations. Ramen soup is too salty and the "side dish" was overcooked.

Terrible first time experience and would not go back to the place again.
Yoko Oda
Yesterday, We had miso ramen. The taste of that noodle and soup was the same as the taste I ate in Hokkaido. Wave noodles were common and very delicious in Hokkaido. And it seems that the booth on the upstairs is in a Japanese Izakaya and it was very comfortable.
Sugar_licks
Nice but nothing exceptional- suitable for a quick lunch where you don't need to think about anything, staff are efficient and friendly- ramen was served nice and hot broth tasty but thin
Elonie
Nice seating area upstairs. You use ipad to order, so very convenient. The daily special was so big that the sushi didn't fit in the tray that it came in. It also came with a little dessert.
Rodney Ho
Had this ramen after parked my car in city. They provided ramen in different style which was in curvy shape. Looked like what we have in nissan instant noodle. They used miso soup as the base and the flavour was not strong enough.

Sashimi was ok and the rice was too soft in general for the sushi.

Super friendly staff!

Went there off peak time for lunch.
Tried miso ramen , 12 dollars.
Service : friendly
Speed: average
Order machine: a bit slow
Ramen presentation : average
Miso base : salty, but I can take it . I eat quite the salty.
Noodle: ok cooked.
Taste: no better than instant noodle, I mean I would prefer Asian instant noodle. But at least this one is fresh.

Conclusion:
Expensive for the taste.
Taste not bad, but not good at all.
Other ramen places around CBD are way better compare to this one.
Would not come back again.
No issue at all except the ramen is not quite tasty.
Alexander Yap
I tried the hot spicy ramen, it was quite delicious with a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness. Too bad only a tiny bit of meat but the top-up boiled egg sort of made up for it. The fancy-looking touch screen ordering system was sluggish at times, but the waiter was friendly and patient to help me out.
Worth coming back again to check out the other dishes.

Update: I was kindly invited back to try Torasan again, after an initial bad experience the first time.

Food: I'm pleased to say they toned down the amount of soy sauce in the veggie ramen since my first visit, leaving a flavoursome, but more well balanced broth. I actually couldn't believe how many noodles, veggies and bean sprout were in my bowl. It was such a generous portion and very filling. My other half ordered the spicy noodle ramen, he loved the lip-tingling flavour and the sweet flavour of the pork.

Atmosphere/service: It's clear Torasan have come on leaps and bounds with the service. It's worth noting, they didn't know we had been invited back until the end of our visit. We were greeted pleasantly and promptly and staff were friendly and attentive throughout, taking time to ensure we understood the menu and felt happy placing our order. Food came incredibly quickly. I like the refit upstairs, which has turned some of the tables into booths, this allows a more private and intimate dining experience and would definitely make me more likely to return in the evenings.

Would I recommend it: Yes, it's affordable and enjoyable. Their ramen have a lot of flavour and are really packed full of ingredients offering something different and are slightly less traditional than you would see in other places. Well worth it for the price.

Torasan is a bright, friendly, double-storey Japanese food outlet in Melbourne CBD.

Orders are made by iPads at your table. The food arrived at a slightly slow pace. However, it was very delicious and filling. We ordered Teishoku set, Salmon terriyaki curry, a tonkotsu ramen and a scoop of matcha icecream.

Some unique dishes Torasan offers are the "Chips Ramen" and matcha beer.

This place is surprisingly more spacious with a second floor seating area that's decorated in a sort-of, Japanese cafe style kind of way. Their food isn't exactly authentic but their gyozas are pretty good. The yakitori I had was decent but the chicken katsu curry had a strange, overpowering taste of capsicum that I've never had in Japanese curry before. The matcha beer was surprisingly good though! You could really taste the matcha in the aftertaste of the beer.

Funky little restaurant loved the ordering system, was satisfied with what we ordered, Chicken Karaage was delicious would order that again, dumplings pork filling was lovely but the casings were not so pleasant which was a shame, over all clean restaurant friendly lovely very accommodating. Price reasonable for lunch time fare, would go back again

I walked past Torasan Ramen by accident and decided to go in and try a beer. The service was excellent, and the the ability to quickly make an order from the iPads available at the downstairs tables is really innovative and efficient. I'll definitely be back for a full meal some time soon.

We tried the pork ramen and loved it. The broth was full of flavours though not as thick as other ramen places. Gyoza was very juicy and yummy. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff

First of all, i love the design of this restaurant, the dine in area is located on the second store and it really gives the japanese-ramen-bar vibe. I was starving when i went and i ordered their katsu curry and i was pretty glad that the portion was massive!

A short hair inside................I'm long hair😭😭😭 I can accept the taste is not good but to have hair in your dish is so disgusting . Neat and clean is very important to a restaurant.
I was looking for somewhere to have lunch and found Torasan. Taken upstairs to a window counter seat it all looked very good. Some of the things on the menu looked good however others just looked tacky and non-authentic...Having Chips ramen on the menu is just ridiculous. I ordered the Tonkatsu Teishoku and it came out to me very quickly. Unfortunately the tonkatsu was literally drowning in sauce, was quite thin and the shredded cabbage was barely to be seen on the plate. There was no mustard either. The rice was old and clumpy and the miso soup tasted like a packet mix. The small bowl of fruit which I assumed was desert looked old and tired, I didn't touch it. Service was friendly and quick but unfortunately the food really lets this place down. A faux Japanese eatery that misses the mark completely.

worst raman have ever eaten in melbourne.
the soup is too salty. I do not know what kind of noodle it is. drinks expensive but not good. will not come again.

Instead of thinking of this place as a ramen restaurant, it is aptly subtitled "noodle canteen" on their bowls. They have cheap ramen and rice dishes, great for a quick lunch/dinner. There's also a lot of seating as there are two levels. The confusing variations of menus (all which basically have the same things) definitely hinder what should be a streamlined ordering process. The ramen broth was weak and light, definitely nothing like a specialty ramen restaurant. I couldn't taste the pork bones in the tonkotsu broth. But actually it tasted nice and soothing. The noodles were impossibly clumpy and soggy though, which was a shame. The gyoza were fine. Overall I think it was a decent and convenient place for a quick and cheap meal with equally inexpensive drinks.

SO GOOD! Everything made us feel like we were at a diner in Japan and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We ordered three drinks and two mains - the special, which was Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki Salmon and the Chicken Nanban. Both mains came with a variety of sides and left us feeling full and satisfied. All up it came to less than $50 which was just great! Will be coming back here very soon! EDIT: We came back and it was just as amazing as the first!

Clean, simple, fresh and wholesome. I had the ramen, gyoza, miso chicken and Japanese lemonade. Ramen was delicious and not too salty, gyoza done to perfection, and the miso chicken was the bomb!! Will, I be back?

Yes!!

Ramen. I love you so much. It's never been hard to find a tasty Tokyo style ramen joint in Melbourne - we have so many great options. This new venue underneath a Appartment block reminds me of the many ramen shops scattered around Tokyo where it's all about efficient, fast service and simple, tasty ramen.

This is not super luxury or fancy ramen, the focus is much more on simple, tasty and fast eats. The menu has a few ramen choices including a very flavoursome vegetarian ramen. The signature chicken ramen is their most popular item and they also have classic pork based ramen. The sides are few with choices of Katsu, edamame and gyoza.

Beers are cheap and they also offer a matcha green tea powder beer, which is very interesting and quite sweet. The venue is over two levels with a open kitchen on the ground floor and the seating upstairs. If you order takeaway there are computer screens to order. The service is amazing, very fast and friendly. I loved this place and will be back again soon.

I’m not entirely sure what is up with the adorable little creature on all the branding of Torasan, but I’d like to think he’s the equivalent of 30 Rock’s Meat Cat and is here to get all the cool kids into Japanese foodstuffs. They have some interesting stuff here, not less the french fries ramen which sounds like the conception of someone spilling their chips into their noodles. There’s also matcha Kirin beer and a good drinks menu. I went more traditional for this lunch, with the tonkotsu ramen. You do have to navigate slightly to level 2 for a sit in meal. The design of the restaurant is a little crazy like Meat Cat, but anyone who can read a sign can work it out.

Firstly the restaurant is confusing with multiple signs on entry saying to go upstairs to dine, but wait for attendant (who was nowhere to be seen), and takeaway only. We didn't know what was going on or where to go and even though the kitchen was fully staffed no one came to assist. We were eventually greeted and told to go upstairs. We were presented with a few menus with various ramen dishes and sides offered. I decided to go for the main item of Tonkotsu. It was a little strange with a not so pleasant broth. Addition of sprouts and corn kernels was very odd so I'm thinking this must be a SE Asian style of Japanese ramen? The upstairs dining area is quite unpleasant as all the cooking smells and oil wafts up from the downstairs kitchen very easily so be prepared to come out smelling of deep fryer.
Very well experience! My girlfriend and I love the special meal for everyday! Really large size and delicious! Also the ramen seems quite tasty with some special flavors exclusive in Torasan Ramen.

Nothinh to say really. Disappointing.....very disappointing......so very disappointing....the curry chicken, the basic dish even they have failed.

Spotted this new ramen joint in Melbourne CBD. Hubby is a big fan of ramen so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the signature Miso Torasan Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen. Waited for a while and notice that table who ordered after us already got their food. Hubby asked the waiter, they said it's coming and we waited for another 15 minutes. Hubby asked again and again they said it's coming. After waited for a little while, hubby couldn't wait any longer and left. I asked the waiter what happened to our order? The wait girl said the waiter put our order on the wrong table. They should explain to us nicely instead of saying the food is coming which made us feeling frustrated waiting. Very dissapointed we didn't get a chance to try the ramen
