Have been a regular customer for quite a while now and it’s a place that feels like home. Generous portion, reasonable price and yummy authentic Malaysian/Singaporean taste! Be sure to try out their Curry Laksa, “Fish head” noodle and dry curry lamb noodle. Also this is the only place so far where I can have full vegetarian/vegan hotpot (need to reserve 1-2 days ahead). Their a la carte dishes are also worth trying! For some dishes you can ask to replace with tofu if you are not a fan of mock meat.
Very good place to try out vegetarian/vegan dishes. I had a roast duck-like dish which was crispy and tasty and a mixed stir fried vegetables and tofu which was really flavourful
One of the best vegan places around. Clean, great service, friendly host. Food is light, tasty and customised well as per requirement.
It’s not easy to get a chinese vegetarian restaurant here, a friend took us here. After so many years, this is our first chinese vegetarian meal in Melbourne 😅 we ordered a few dishes to be shared (sorry cant remember the dishes name), taste is good but the starter soup is too spicy lol
.... it’s not easy to find a parking space but we are lucky enough to get a spot just in front of the shop. Parking would be a problem, I must say..
xx 💚
Of you are vegetarian this is a must visit vegetarian chinese malaysian restaurant in melbourne. Its located at a weird spot in southbank but a must find and must try place. They do great mock meat.
Expensive but worth it. This is one of the only places around to get mock meat, and they offer a very extensive selection of it. The large, white walled space feels a bit sterile but the staff are warm and food is comforting enough to make you forget. I love the chicken skewers and prawn toast as starters. Any main is a good choice, but the black bean beef on rice and the tofu and eggplant dish are two favourites. Vegans/vegos, bring your meat eating family here, they may just love it.
Amazing food..great ambiance..been here for the dinner and totally loved it. Great and friendly staff ..must try lemon chicken and the fried rice.
Found this venue while I am lost in Southbank. Very good food for vegetarians! I really cant believe what I had was made out of soy and mushroom! Vegetarians should be here and try this out!
I’ve had mock meat all my life growing up in Hong Kong where mock meat is very ordinary and I have been to multiple restaurants. But this little restaurant in Southbank does really good food and I highly recommend it
Im not a vegan but this place might change that. Everything taste so fresh and full of flavour. Try a few of their chef recommendation. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I would go back again
Haven’t been here for a while and the food tonight was excellent, especially the ‘specials’ - lovely bean curd skin ‘prawns’ with little mushroom ‘backbones’ and carrot ‘coral’ ; also mixed mushroom with egg tofu. Delicious black tea ( can’t remember the name). Ample food for 3 gluttons for $76.00 .... has to be one of the best places to eat in Southbank, even for non veggies....
We visited this nice and clean restaurant for Saturday dinner. The food is vegan with no onion and garlic. We had their 3 mushroom with spinach along with tofu and mushroom with rice.
Flavourful decent portions for the price.
The staff were helpful and guided us with the parking at their reserved space.
We LOVE that Vegie Kitchen has opened it's doors again and the menu is the same as Enlightened Cuisine :)My favourite lunch dish is the curry lamb w/rice, and for dinner I can't go past the Beef Rendang! My boyfriend only orders from the lunch menu, his favourites are Seafood Fried Noodle or Dry Wonton BBQ Noodle. We usually share an entree and go between the Sesame Prawn (AMAZING!!), Fried Dim Sims, Golden Duck Slice OR Satay Chicken Skewers. The Special Fried Rice and Nasi Goreng are both delicious but usually out of our budget. If you are vegan make sure you let staff know as there are a handful of meals that contain egg. If you are planning to drink alcohol, bring it with you! Is now BYO only x
We heard by word of mouth that the previous venue of EC has re-opened with a new name. We dropped in for dinner last night and were delighted for a nice feed. Staffs were friendly, servings were generous, food was great. It's just great to have this restaurant back in serving nice vegan/vegetarian dishes.
Whether you are or aren't into mock meat/seafood, this is a great place to dine with plenty to choose from.
Chinese calendar date with all veggies. Very nice food presentation with every meat made by soy bean. Very delicious food. I like it. Chinese calendar date with all veggies. Very nice food presentation with every meat made by soy bean. Very delicious food. I like it.
We ordered
Three mushroom soup
Hot and sour soup
Golden duck pieces
Black bean and beef main
Kung pao chicken nest
Black rice pudding
Tapioca pudding with loganberry?!? (Don't remember any more)
Everything was delicious, the service was great!!!
Will definitely come back here again soon!!
Enlightened Cuisine just changed their name. Everything else is just the same, even their phone number.
I was disappointed when someone said they closed for good. First White Lotus and now EC.
But luckily saw a review of the place on TripAdvisor from 10days ago and decided to call in. So happy!
I hope it picks up for them soon once people realise that it's still there. We were the only ones there today. Food was good as always.
For those who don't know - they serve mock meat dishes. They don't serve real meat, except maybe egg in Nasi Goreng. My go-to are Kung Pao Chicken in nest, Roast duck and Fish clay pot. Tried barbecued pork at lunch once and it was good too. Hot and Sour soup and fried duck pieces make for good starters. I give wonton soup a miss.
It’s ALL vegetarian.
All of it.
Even the chicken, duck, fish etc. On the menu - all made with mock meat.
It was delish.
Priced really reasonably too.
Service was not the best, I felt like the old lady told us off for not ordering fast enough 😂, but I’m not going to complain when the food is good and cheap.
Delicious vegetarian food with prompt and friendly service. An extensive menu of vegetarian versions of chinese dishes and Malaysian/Singaporean hawker fare. On our 2 visits we tried the Kung Pau Chicken, Cereal Prawns, Fried Kuey Teow and Cantonese Fried Egg noodles. Definitely going back for more.
Delicious food! Generous portions. I tried the sweet and sour chicken and it was a hit. Would recommend for the flavors and the mock meat.
Everything's vegan except for eggs in fried rice (vegan upon request), & milk in fish curry. Hot & sour soup & satay chicken were very tasty! Laksa was good if a bit light in flavor (knowing how thick & rich real laksa is). $33 for all that in photo, super full shared between us 2. Very worth it! More like 4.5 stars
Surprise visit to this place as I was looking for a place that serves soup to satisfy my cravings on a cold night. Surprisingly it's a completely vegetarian/vegan place serving mock meat.
Extremely affordably priced and we had ordered spring rolls, wontons and hot n sour soup which was good!
After initially being denied a seat/table at this place, we finally got a table (Restaurant was only 3/4 full) - rude/arrogant (older) woman/waitress.
The food however was spectacular!!! a big yes - My vegan partner LOVED as did I (non-vegan) - best vegan food I have ever had. Pretty reasonably priced too!
Just need to improve on the Customer Service skills & it's a real winner! Would absolutely go back (if would get a table 😁) Yum!
This is such a strange restaurant. Dear God do they need to renovate and wipe everything down and get better tables BUT the food is amazing and almost made be forget the dilapidated decor. It is refreshing to order off the menu knowing you can eat it all as it is fully vegetarian. Everything is fresh and tasty and tastes like the real thing!
One of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants I tried in Melbourne. The service was really fast. Their sweet and sour chicken + double since crispy duck are the must try if you've never been here before. You can also buy the mock meat from their display freezers if you want to cook them at home. Overall, it was a very good experience. Will definitely come back again next time.
