We visited Extension of Time on a mid-week morning for breakfast. Upon entering the cafe, we were completely ignored. In fact, the woman behind the counter walked away while we were looking around for where to sit (we were the only people in the front room). We were kind of baffled - she could have at least greeted us? Anyway, the staff turned out to be friendly enough, if a little aloof. The food though, was amazing! I had the mushrooms, and every mouthful was delicious. The servings were quite generous too. We left feeling quite full, and pleased that we had persevered despite the initial cold reception.

Opens early for coffee - 7.30am. Has interesting seasonal breakfasts (pro tip: always ask if there are any specials for breakfast). Plus has a great courtyard for summer and a wood fire for winter. The wood fire in winter is truly life affirming!!
Love the food, very interesting takes on old classics. Service is excellent. The birch interior is lovely and warm. Coffee is pretty good each time. And they do. 50c discount if you bring in a keepcup.
Great coffee and lovely people; what more do you need from your local?! The toasty fire is great in winter and the courtyard out the back good for sunny days. Check it out.

I ordered the Smashed Avo with a side of bacon. Accompanied with toasted seeds and pomegranate, it was the perfect combo. Will definitely be back!

The warmth and the entirety of this beautiful place is your home away from home. The menu is unbelievable and the meals are feasts for the eyes and taste buds. I've frequented this beautiful place since around the time it opened and i've never left short of a delicious coffee, delicious meals and heart warming company / service. A truly special thing, this extension of time!

Best eggs benny in Melbourne!! Really fun menu with twists on classic creations. Have been back since to try the black pudding scotch egg, absolutely delicious! Stopped by this new Carlton gem for breakie with friends on the weekend. Really nice smooth coffee with loads of varieties. Had the smashed avo and one of the tastiest I have had in a while. Staff were really friendly and attentive and will def be back to try more off their menu.
Went to this café at the weekend with some girlfriends, not only is the food amazing but it is child friendly. My friend who has a baby was delighted that there was a changing table and lots of space for the high chair. The coffee, tea and brekie was yummy - love the tea pots. Most importantly it is reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again oh and we sat for hours chatting and no one rushed us!! - great service!!!!

Sweet little spot in Rathdowne village. With plenty of gorgeous space and a secret garden out back it's the perfect spot to relax with brunch! The cooler temps meant I could enjoy some porridge which tasted as good as it looked!
Delicious food, beautifully light and airy cafe, great coffee. The Cuban Reuben was particularly yummy. And the staff are lovely. Highly recommend!

Lovely and bright and friendly staff, always up for a chat. Such a cosy cafe - brightly lit too in the front room, perfect for studying with multiple powerpoints easily accessible. Gorgeous and well-stocked bathroom (this is something you have to see when you get there!). My new favourite place along Rathdowne.
Light infused and well cushioned atmosphere in the front room with the option of cozy seating and the warmth of a flickering fireplace for Winter if you are in a broody mood or are wanting to be cocooned with nurturing food and service. Above all a welcoming new addition to the strip with a spritely Celtic accented conversation. I look forward to sampling more of the generous serves of food menu in the coming months..light the fireplace and add mulled wine to the menu for the Winter and you will have me renting a table next to the fireplace..of course its re assuring to see yoi have included an extensive array if tea, honouring an inheritence from the previous teas salon.
