Great local! We live across the road and have really enjoyed popping over for our mid week dinner. Since new management has taken over it’s been fabulous! Great meal, great portions, pub classics and healthier options. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Just a good’ole honest pub thats a bit spesh x
Took some friends for lunch.. Friendly ,happy service.. not rushed and not slow either. Good menu choices for starters ,mains and desert .. Steaks were tasty, tender and perfectly cooked . Fat chips ok, really good salad and excellent coffee.. .. Absolutely on par with Railway Club Hotel so definitely worth a go.. Decor is a bit shabby but with good customer support hopefully that will improve. I'm going back next week for sure.. Oh.. and prices are certainly very fair.. both food and wine.
I came across the Clare Castle Hotel when I heard someone refer to it as "Port Melbourne's best kept secret for the past 100 years". Best kept secret is right because in the nearly 8 years I've been running ParmaDaze it has managed to completely sail under my radar. . I like to do a bit of research on our targets before we visit, but the online presence for the Clare Castle is minimal - Their Facebook Page is quiet, the Instagram is the same, It's almost if they are going out of their way to remain mysterious.

A really great venue that's amongst some of the finest pubs in the south Melbourne cluster, the rump steak I had here was really tasty and I most definately will be coming back for more
Came here for a few drinks after work! Will be back!! Great food and service! I had the beef sliders which had so much flavor and for $12 it was amazing! Great place!
Great local pub. In particular the make a Fantastic chicken Parma - Probably the best in the area. Friendly staff and always reliable with their food.
Good local pub food , tucked away in the back streets of Port Melbourne. No complaints , plenty of choice on the menu and good portion sizes. Reasonably priced.
Great food, good service, great atmosphere. First time going there, the live music was a nice surprise and the porterhouse steak I ordered was big and tender and a spot on medium rare (which you don’t often come across in pubs). My girlfriend is a Parma connoisseur and she loved her meal. Overall I’d recommend Clare Castle for late lunch/dinner.
Great place to unwind. Great food and drinks available. Services is excellent. Highly recommended. Definitely a venue to eat at regularly. Function room also looks pretty groovy and packages look good - may try it out in the future!
GREAT FOOD - GREAT VALUE. My family have been going to the Clare castle for the past few years and you cannot fault it - especially value for money. They have regular offers - including all meals for $18 on a Saturday night. The staff are very friendly and the meals are fantastic. Lamb cutlets and the steak with mushroom sauce are my particular favourites but the parma and sizzling paella are also great

This place is a little gem. Awesome food, unpretentious and definitely under rated! We went there for the first time about 2 months ago and have been back about 5 times since.
Underrated place. Without the frills it probably doesnt fit the pt melb demographic, and it is usually near empty in the bistro. Great serves, surprisingly good quality and value for money. Have been 3 times in the last month.
Hit the spot!. A class little place for some good food and good company. Owner seems like a genuinely nice guy who looks after his customers.

Certaintly worth a visit at least once!. Really pleased with my visit to this restaurant. I visited this bistro with few friends of mine recently and got friendly service. Interior was decent, as well as the atmosphere. Service was on a nice level, seemed like the staff knew what they were doing. Fast serving, polite and welcoming. The food was excellent as well as the drinks. Recommended!

Pub food as it should be!. When I came across the Clare Castle Hotel I was pleasantly surprised and prompted to make an urbanspoon profile to express this. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the setting is humble and rather quaint. When you enter you are met with the warmest of smiles and a simple atmosphere that is jazzed up by a funky lounge area. The table setting is classic and have a a welcoming feeling to it all. Upon ordering the anticipation began to build - would this simple establishment deliver a meal that would capture its essence? The answer, it did in simple and expecting fashion. The meal portions are generous with sides of a salad with a little kick in it and chips that should accompany any great dish. The actual steak was a quality cut and cooked by a quality chef - certainly no complaints on my behalf. Furthermore, the desserts and service (which go hand in hand in my view) were up to a standard that the owners and managers of this place should be pleased with and broadcasting. Not for some time have I been as content as I was visiting this little hidden gem. Worth a trip down to Port Melbourne.

Have been here many times over many years. The food is always good, soul food really and reasonably priced. The hotel is tucked away and bistro has a lounge room feel. It is not noisy or rowdy.
Much enjoyed - great steaks.. Came here last weekend and ordered a steak.
Steak was beautiful and tender - cooked exactly as I had asked. Very happy customer. Will be back for more.

Customer service: really great! Everyone was really nice and even though it was quite late in the night it wasn't shown. Quick with the orders and kind enough to explain the meals.
Food: great for the prices. Expect to have a big feed when you go down.

Always a favourite place to relax with friends over a quiet beer. We always have a great time at the clare castle. the food is very good for the price and the servings are generous. can get a bit noisy but not so much to halt a good conversation but a good night for all! always suggest this place to my friends!
Great place to unwind!. Great to come here on Sundays, I have been a regular on this day for quite some time. When you want to have a nice relaxing Sunday this is the perfect place to be. Start early with an afternoon roast and finish with the live band performing. First discovered this place a while ago, it is tucked away but certainly a good find. Food is always tops and service matches up with it nicely. A+

Cheap Yummy Feed!. My partner and I went to the Clare Castle Hotel last saturday night for dinner. A friend of ours had recommended it - you can't really go wrong with $16 a meal! We sat in the bistro part and to my surprise the meal was YUM! It was also nice having attentive service (not something you find often).
All in all 8/10!
Great food!!. Decided to give this bistro a try. The steak was beautifully cooked, nice and tender and the wait staff were quite young and nice.
Will be back another time.
Family friendly pub food. A great little pub/ bistro with (currently) $15 local's night every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. On the menu is a great hamburger: comparable to Andrew's which we love.
Service is warm and child-friendly, and we always leave satisfied and happy.
Tuesday $10 parma day. Earlier today, I dropped past the Clare Castle looking for a chicken parma for under $12 and thankfully for me I found 5 different parma's all for $10.00.
I ordered the greek parma, a variation on the traditional parma, topped with fetta, olives, and red capsicum. Of course you can still order the traditional parma. For an extra $3.50 I also had a pot of Lemon Lime & Bitters. Great lunch!
Really well thought out menu utilising the best of land and sea! Ordered the lamb shank which fell off the bone and passed the test. Also got the Marinara which I’m not sure was worth $37 but the seafood was delightful
Overall delicious and will come back for the steak!
Dined in the fantastic private room on Saturday night, easily seating 14 of us.
The entrées and mains through to dessert were delicious!
My 1/2 a dozen oysters were as fresh as could be.
I wanted the ribeye for my main but my nephew scored the last remaining one.
I’m sure it was cooked as good as my scotch fillet.
The Clare Castle has seen some big changes but they are all great changes for this local iconic pub in Port Melbourne.
I had a great night and the staff were so polite and friendly. Loved the Moreton Bay Bugs with jasmine rice.
This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, scrumptious food, excellent service and some very good gluten free options.

Front bar is fairly standard with mostly bar tables and a small TAB section, which may put off some.
Food was nice and reasonable (slightly on the expensive side).
Dining area is definitely kid friendly.

Great food! From the entree to the mains. Will definitely be back while in town. One place you should not miss! Prawn spring rolls, moretón bay bug slider, garlic king prawns are all awesome.
