Delicious food!
I love this place for really tasty vegan Chinese food!
I have had both the black pepper beef and the black olive fried rice! Both were very very delicious!
Service both times was also very friendly!
I cannot wait to go again and try more items on the menu! Too many yummy things to choose from!
Highly recommend!
Go here and you won't regret it. Vegan or not, the food here is delicious; so much so that we have come here 2 nights in a row on occasion. Highly recommend the olive fried rice. We have not had a bad dish here ever. Go now and thank us later
A fantasic local vegetarian joint with flavourful mock meats imitating very closely to its Chinese meat counterparts. As someone transitioning to a more plant focused diet, Vegie Mum is going to be a go to for me.
Loved : Char siu was great and we got kung pao chicken which resembled real chicken very well, could have been a bit spicier.
Service was great, everyone was friendly and the food was served super fast! Only waited around 5 minutes for both our main meals.
Better for next time... I ordered the vegie curry puff last minute and was very disappointed, there was probably a tea spoon of filling in it and was mostly eating the puff, luckily it wasn't pricey.
I would definently come back here with my friends to show them how vegetarian meats can be super tasty! Great value for money as well.

Roasted duck ($18)
Black olive with tofu ($20)
Singaporean noodles ($13)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴Delicious vegetarian food at #vegiemum that has a wide array of #vegetarianoptions. We really enjoyed the stewed, soft & silky tofu that had a delicious black olive pickle sauce. The roasted “duck” was beancurd that had a nice soft yet slightly crisp texture and came with mushrooms and black fungus. As Singaporeans, it’s always amusing to see #singaporenoodles on a menu as there isn’t such a dish in Singapore itself. But we were pleasantly surprised by the tasty and affordable stir-fried beehoon (thin noodles) that had an array of mock meat probably made from flour that were well-executed

This place can veganise anything. The service was amazing and the food was even better and I say that as someone who has lived in Asia. I love the Lak-yum and the silken tofu with mustard greens. Both are a must try. Well worth a visit!!! One of my favourites in Melbourne.
One of the best fully vegetarian asian restaurant in Melbourne! We have been to their doncaster branch a couple of times however, we decided to switch things up and visit their Fitzroy branch for lunch and had an incredibly affordable and delicious meal. The whole meal (picture 2) cost us $32; shared between 2 and had 2 containers worth of leftovers.
Their olive fried rice is simple yet extremely moreish and delicious (the chef sure knows their rice frying technique).
The lak-yum’s soup was full of flavours but had too much cream and was too rich (was interesting to try but we will not order it again)
Crispy combination noodles is one of my favourite noodle dishes to order at any non-vegetarian restaurant and this vegetarian restaurant has continued to maintain my ordering mentality with a good ratio of crispy noodles to gravy, a generous amount of veggies and “meat” and a light and delicious gravy. The mock-up meat tries its best to imitate the flavours and textures of their counterparts however, I would give it a 6.8 out of 10 for mockup to meat comparisons.
And lastly, the service at this place is fanstastic! Steven was born to be in hospitality! He provided us with a complimentary chef specialty dish (“chicken” Rendang) and made us feel like we were already regular customers.
We left the restaurant feeling happy in both our moods and tummies.
There are many vegan options around the Inner North but few have the combination of delicious food, great value and staff bursting with enthusiasm. Have been here for dinner with small and large groups and have never left disappointed! Highly recommend
Brilliant food! And the floor manager was super friendly super helpful plus also looked like [young version of] Jackie Chan [I am not being racist, I have East Asian background myself!] Will definitely come back to try other items in the menu.
Honestly, I enjoyed this restaurant far more than I expected. It was a very pleasant experience, and I'm already looking forward to going back!
I've had my fair share of vegan Asian food, and I almost always end up disappointed by how underwhelming and lackluster the meal is. I've come to expect a salt and oil heavy meal, bulked up with mock meat, with not many other discernable flavours. Vegie Mum felt like a class above the standard Chinese takeaway. It was far less oily than I'm used to, so I didn't finish my dinner feeling completely weighed down by oil. The menu is also considerably smaller than some other places, so choosing a dish didn't feel like an impossible and overwhelming task. I personally think less is more on a menu, and I'm more inclined to trust that food will be good when cooks don't have to remember 100 different dishes. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly. Serving sizes were generous. We ordered vegan "honey" roasted pork and duck, black olive rice, and char kuay teow (no egg). It's easy to understand how the olive rice is so popular now that I've tried it. It sounds like a strange combo, but it really does work.
The restaurant itself seemed unfinished, and a little dated, but it wasn't dirty. I think that updating the interior could really help improve customer's overall dining experience.
Great little restaurant! The food is tasty, service is great, ambience is nice. Good for everyone from big groups to dates! Would love to see them go fully vegan. Or at least be a little more careful, as our rice dish originally came out with egg in it after we said vegan, but they quickly fixed their mistake and apologised, very nice about it. But since egg is an allergen they need to be extra careful. Would also love to see the menu expand and also include photos of what to expect. but it does have a pretty good selection. I'd come back :)

I’ve eaten at Vegie Mum in Fitzroy a couple of times now and even when I go with a large group the service is great and the wait time for food isn’t long.
The meals are really reasonably priced and they’re always delicious! They do a lot of mock meat dishes which are freakishly realistic, in a good way.
The laksa is one of my favourite dishes, as well as the curry ‘beef’ and roasted ‘duck’.
Amazing value $13 will get you lunch or dinner, wide range of options, huge serves, excellent quality, delicious taste. Still getting into the vegie noodle section of the menu over 10 options just there I like the curry laksa & tom yum but my current fave is the wonton noodle soup as I wrote elsewhere it is exquisite.

Came here with two vegetarians and one vegan, so I was the odd one out being a carnivore. The food was great with lots of choices. Portion sizes are generous. This Asian restaurant has a lot to offer so bring your kids along because there is something for them too. Also, there are high chairs. Dietaries catered for. Mee Goreng is pretty good and won ton soup as an entree excellent. Staff were extremely helpful. Good value for money.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking - well considering where it is, it's not bad.
A delicious meal!! We ordered the banquet for 4/5 ppl and it was a generous serving of food. I loved the mock prawns and the veggie and tofu dish. An authentic Chinese place with great chef and the customer service is very good :) will come here again
I was surprised by the food at Veggie Mum. If I could eat that regularly, it'd be easy to be vegan. There are so many choices and the flavours were so good. The serving size was generous. Chinese food can be healthy (if the sodium level was lower, that'd be perfect), tasty, kind and sustainable. Hope more people will visit Veggie Mum!
Long-time readers of Whatever Floats Your Bloat will know about my predilection for mock meat. Whether it’s the ficken (fake chicken) satay skewers at Box Hill’s Vegie Hut, the mork (mock pork) char kuay teow at the CBD’s Sarawak Kitchen or the muck (mock duck) noodle soup at Fitzroy’s Fina’s 2, I like mock meat in all its variations (I love mock meat so much I wrote an article about synthetic animal protein). The problem is, ‘textured vegetable protein’ and ‘meat substitutes’ are on my high-histamine list and I often feel like someone punctured a hole in my skin and blew gas into me after, so I eat it judiciously.
Love the fitzroy vegie mum. A little more spacious than doncaster but the same amazing food plus more. The pork ribs are fantastic. We loved everything. Thanks Steven!
Vegie Mum is a vegetarian restaurant initially established in Doncaster and it has got really good reputation around that area. Following the successful main branch in Doncaster, Vegie mum just recently opened its new branch situated on 72 Johnston Street, Fitzroy; We’re glad to be invited to Vegie Mum to taste and have foodie experience.
I really don't know why this restaurant isn't always bursting at the seams. Quality vegan/vegetarian asian food in the vegan heartland of Fitzroy.
Better than expected, really innovative menu with lots of choice. Steven is a great host(he is the manager over here).
All mock meat at it's best taste. They dont use onion, garlic or spring onion n still have the awesome flavors in food.
I have been a big fan of Vegie Mum restaurant in Doncaster. This new restaurant in Fitzroy is much more spacious & modern but you do get less of the intimate/cosy feeling compared to the Doncaster restaurant. Food wise, the food is as good as in Doncaster. We ordered the Peking duck and hot & sour soup for entree’s. The mock duck tasted & looked more like mock chicken rather than mock duck, so i think it should have been called Peking Chicken? The hot & sour soup was spicy hot & delicious. For mains we ordered Assam soy fish in two different sauces, char kuay teow and Sichuan eggplant hot pot. All dishes had a lot of flavours & generous in servings. Service was fast & friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Spent a pleaseant evening in this restaurant with three additional friends. The food was delicious and the portions large and generous. The service is fast (even though the place was busy) and the staff friendly and helpful.
Vegie Mum is a beautiful restaurant serving up some amazing vegan and vegetarian options. Their menu is extensive with dishes to suit all tastes. Many of which are perfect for sharing with bigger groups and families. Would definitely recommend. Black Olives, Pickle and Mince Pork with stewed Silky Tofu $20
Had dinner there several weeks in a row. Highly recommend. The char kway teow might be my favourite but everything is worth trying. The staff is really nice and service is good.
This Chinese vegetarian restaurant has a cult following in Doncaster and has now opened their second location in Fitzroy, to capture the hipster/vegetarian market.
We were invited to try the menu and experience mock meat for the first time. For the uninitiatied, mock meat is articifically made food that is made to look, feel and somewhat taste like meat.
This restaurant looks and feels like every Chinese restaurant you've been to. Unassuming on the outside, the interior is typically decorated, but there are nice details and paintings throughout. There's been thought in the layout and design of the place.
The first thing I need to say is that the servings are HUGE. You won't leave full. We had the beijing 'duck' wraps to start. The duck was actually tofu, but tasted good regardless.
For mains we had the black olive fried rice, and the kung po 'squid'. I've never had black olive fried rice before so this was something different and enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend this. The mock squid was very close to the mark in terms of texture and the sauce covered it nicely. The cut marks on the mock squid gave it the very realistic texture.
This has been a very unique experience but enjoyable regardless. If there is a situation where we no longer can eat meat, there are going to be some great alternatives in the future. Recommended for vegetarians and vegans, and people who feel like not having meat, and for food adventurists.
Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat.

Another excellent experience. Tofu sizzling is as amazing as it looks in the zomato video. Durian ice cream home made full of Durian favour. The art work dish is called the jade craft and is beautiful.

Second visit since open. Comfortable, friendly, tasty and good price. Love it. Can improve plate decoration and that was what me and the wife played with.
Ive had a lot nick meat in different restaurant growing up in Hong Kong but this newly opened restaurant in Fitzroy is adding a lot of variety to vegetarian food to people in the area. Had dinner with my wife here tonight. I highly recommend.
We arrived with a large group of people for a late dinner with no booking - no problem at all. The host is very friendly and welcoming. Delicious vegetarian and vegan food, plus it’s garlic and onion free (fodmap friendly). Highly recommend. $5 alcoholic drink specials and they also serve vegan beers.
Our favourite vegetarian restaurant. Used to go to their Doncaster store with my family. Excited to find their new launched store in Fitzroy where is much closer to us. The manager Stephen introduced 5 new Fusion dishes to us, delicious as always and surprisingly we’ve (3 persons) finished them all! Also we found this new place more comfy, service was good. fried rice and pumpkin tofu must try!
It's not a hipster place, just damn good Chinese food. Great for groups to share. I don't usually eat mock meat, but tried a couple dishes for the experience; the entre duck was amazing, no idea if it tasted like duck though. And the chicken I tried had that marrinade I use to love on BBQ wings. Also lots of great non mock meat vegie options, the Sichuan eggplant was melt in your mouth. I finished it off with durian icecream, which I loved, but you got to be into that kind of thing. Service by the manager was exceptional, he was very animated.
This place has nailed it with the Veggie/Vegan food. A great menu with well prepared food. A great assortment of mock meat options who can tell the difference? I enjoyed all the dishes and the care if cooking and delivering all the dishes. I would go back for that rice anyday...
We had the best meal here in the weekend and will definitely be going back! A welcome addition to the area. So much flavour and well priced.
Omg delicious! We had the Thai braised fillet steak, honey roast pork duck and black olive fried rice.. simply divine. One of the best vegan/ vegetarian restaurants I’ve been to. The host is very entertaining too!
