This venue has a great potential, however the food and service quality just dropped significantly these days. I gave them benefot of doubt being on a public holiday, we ordered meal 8:15pm and followed up multiple times and food was served 9:22pm after I rang the store to confirm if the meal was coming. Not to mention we saw cockroaches while dining in, I informed the staffs and i was given a confusing look. The food used to taste spectacular but my last visit it was quite average. The customer service experience could also improve, i think the customer service takes no ownership when question asked about the timing of food being served. Cmone Dooboo, makes it great again.

I have been here several times pre, during and post-pandemic, for the delicious signature soon tofu. Yes, there is a change in the management and with the order system like many other restaurants, but generally, the food is still taste the same. It lets us to order and pay through Mr. Yum QR code in advance before enjoying our meals. This three storey dine in place can accommodate quite a lot of customers, and I always encourange to make a reservation in advance. Suitable for smaller group of 5-6 people rather than a big one.

Service *Literally zero. Walk in, no hello, straight on to "how many.", to which you get seated and get told nothing, then the waitress walks off with no communication. No menus. No cups for the water jar. Your seated at a table with a water jar & no cups. 3-5 minutes later... We had to figure out OURSELVES that you have to order through the QR code sticker, stuck on the corner of the table... Oh, no forks and knives, chopstick, etc.. I had to literally physically inspect the table edges which are hidden drawers to find them. Again, no explanation or care by staff. At the end when leaving, no thank you, no words, no nothing. Staff who don't care. Food was okay. *Ordered the set as seen in photos. *Dumplings themselves were 5/5, crispy yet soft and full of flavour. *Came with a bunch of accompanying korean sides, stable always good sides. Nothing to comment on yet. *Inside my dish, there was an exterior egg shell crack in my dish. This is literally not a big deal for me, but if whoever can't crack an egg properly, let alone spot check their dishes, it indicates the standard of skillset the food preparation chef / kitchen staff have. Not good. Value *Going into a korean restaurant, you kind of expect to pay for about $20+ for a main, this falls in place to average cost. Nothing much to comment on. Atmosphere *Typical Korean restaurant vibes 5/5 Overall *Would not recommend, go another Korean restaurant where they actually have the sincerity to acknowledge your patronage, where they care to explain the ordering system and you feel welcome without an egg shell crack or similar issue in your dish. As always, the start and end of your visit dictates the palate in your mouth. Started bitter, ended sour.

Got the mainstream big pork katsu for myself, and my thought towards it instantly changed when it arrived to the table. It can easily feed 2 people if you have small appetite. The soondubu (tofu soup) was also nice as it came with a set of side dishes. Worth to try!

You must try this place. I ordered signature soon doo boo. It comes with side dishes and rice in hot pot. The rice was phenomenon and all side dishes are amazing. I never thought soon doo boo can be this special. I normally get problem after spicy food but I was ok with food here. I heard that they don't put any MSG, I assume that will be the reason why I was safe. I defenatly going back here, maybe soon again.

I love this place! It's so tasty!! The tables are really efficient and the service is very quick. Most of the meals are sharable and the pricing is quite reasonable for the portion sizes.

They have more things than tofu! But their tofu dish is actually pretty good. We’ve gotten the spicy tofu stew and it was so tasty and not crazy spicy which is nice.<br/><br/>The best thing we got was the kimchi pancake. It was so good, we almost ordered another one. Such a good companion for soju!

I enjoyed the Pork kimchi stew - Slabs of silken tofu, chewy pork meat, generous hunks of kimchi and spring onion doused in chili oil. The sides included dried seaweed, seaweed salad in a creamy mayonnaise, strips of seasoned omelette, spicy kimchi and plain rice. You dunk the rice in the soup and any of the sides or eat the sides on their own as a contrast to the spicy stew <br/><br/>I’m so glad I finally got to eat here—there’s always a line (especially long ones at night/on weekends) so I popped in for lunch on a week day to nab a table. The service was friendly and fast. I’ll definitely be eating here again!

Dooboo has taken over what used to be chop shop and I am not disappointed at all. The menu has heaps of variety from bbq to a la carte dishes, the side dishes are never ending and the food was amazing! I highly recommend the stew and the seafood pancake (probably the best I’ve ever had - super crisp and tasty). The bbq meat wasn’t very impressive but everything else was so good! It can be a little hard to get the waitresses attention but overall a great experience!

One word - SOTBAP, and with that word, let's begin the review for DooBoo. In Korean, Sot (솥)means pot used for cooking, and Bap ( 밥 ) means cooked rice. They have even made a YouTube video to showcase how to eat SotBap traditionally. My friends and I visited this place to have a late lunch, and we got a big table towards the end. Don't underestimate how big this place is just by seeing the storefront. They got multilevel dining and a dedicated hotpot area on the top floor. <br/><br/>I have ordered Beed Brisket Soy Bean Stew and upgraded it to SotBap for an additional $2. Sot bap is nothing but cooked rice but, the way to eat is a bit different. You take the rice out of the pot and eat it along with the side dishes and soup. Once you take the rice out, pour some hot water into the pot, and close the bamboo lid. This will make a Konjee (rice porridge) with the leftover crispy rice that are stuck to the walls of the pot, and you can eat it at the end to soothe your stomach. <br/><br/>The soup was delicious. The Fried Chicken, though a bit expensive $15.50 for a small portion, we have ordered was lip smacking. We had both Garlic and Sweet Chilli flavours to try. The cold Kimchi Noodle Soup was great. I kind of underestimated the words “cold noodles” and to be honest, it was actually one of the good dishes I have tried. <br/><br/>As we upgrade to SotBap we get a lot of side dishes which includes fish cakes, seaweed snacks, kimchi and more. I would say it's a great value for money upgrade for just $2. <br/><br/>My friends and I loved the dining experience here and would love to recommend to anyone.

My second time visiting Dooboo and I was just as impressed as the first time. Dooboo has definitely gained a lot of popularity since my last visit - we came at a time between lunch and dinner and the place was still packed! <br/><br/>I really like the food at Dooboo because it’s tasty, authentic and affordable. Their combo sets are really good for value and I’d definitely recommend it. We had the Pork Galbi set which also came with their famous Soon Tofu, Sotbap rice, and 5 side dishes. This time, I ate the rice properly by scooping some out, and pouring a little bit of water into the pot so that it’s easier to scrape the crispy rice bits from the bowl. Such a smart idea - and super delicious! It went so well with the spicy savoury tofu stew, and the tofu was so light and creamy. <br/><br/>Next was the Donkatsu, and they’re not lying about it being king-sized! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pork cutlet this big! But it was super delicious - so crispy on the outside, whilst the pork was still juicy and tender. I loved the sweet sauce which was doused on. Definitely a dish to share!<br/><br/>We also had the Tteokbokki (with extra ramen) and Seafood Pancake on the side. You really can’t go wrong with these dishes. Although the seafood pancake was lacking in seafood, it was still very crispy - not the best but not the worst we’ve had. The rice cake was quite nice and on the sweeter side. Despite adding extra ramen, the portion was still really small.<br/><br/>We shared all 4 dishes between 3 people and were absolutely stuffed afterwards. The portions are very generous and the flavours are great too. Definitely recommend!

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical after reading some reviews but whatever mistakes were made, the staff were quick to learn from. They were friendly and accommodating and happy to answer any questions. The food tasted beautiful and very reasonably priced. 100% coming back.

If you like Tofu, you’ll enjoy Dooboo… I’d say this is a new joint in the CBD as we only saw it this year on the busy street of Swanston. They also recently opened another Dooboo in Box Hill, after our experience in the CBD Dooboo, I was so excited to recommend our eastern suburb friends to try Dooboo in Box Hill!

DOOBOO had a really cute concept and the food was tasty and well priced for its portion, there was a 10-15 minute wait when we arrived at around 8:30pm on Wednesday night however we were seated shortly after. I got the kimchi soup and upgraded my rice and although the sopbap wasn’t for me, I recommend people to try it as it’s interesting to have! The soup was very flavourful and sides were nice!

Really love their signature soon tofu served with rice in a hot pot. The portion is generous, the taste is really good. It is worth the price. You do have to wait in line during busy dinner time. But it is worth the wait!

It's a Monday night but surprisingly there is a long line we joined the que and only waited 10 minutes to be seated which was good but after being seated my friend had to basically shout at the waiter for us to be served, we felt we were constantly ignored when trying get attention from one of the waiters and the other was too busy training to notice us, we did notice that two people who were seated after us got served before us. The food was not worth the price and service.

Yummy food especially the fried chicken. Long queue but turnover was pretty fast. Plenty of seating as it’s a three storeyed restaurant. Mostly good thjngs to say about this place except maybe the disposable cups. Would have preferred they use something more friendly to the environment.

Had the whole King sized donkatsu to myself and it was amazing!! May be a tad bit too sweet but you can just scrape the sauce to the side. And the few wedges were crispy too (very well fried — deep fried hahah). Tbeh were generous with the portion for this donkatsu and price was very reasonable too! <br/><br/>Also had the seafood pancake and it was really good! Incredibly crispy and tasty. Would recommend it.<br/><br/>I tried a little bit of the kimchi tofu soup as well and the broth was really something else. Even the tofu was amazing. <br/><br/>So glad I made a spontaneous decision to dine here tonight ☺️ can easily be my go-to if I’m in the city :)

It was delicious! <br/><br/>🔆LOCATION🔆<br/><br/>Dooboo Korean Tofu House is situated in the heart of CBD on Swanston Street, between Lonsdale and Little Bourke Street.<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is of a decent size and it is authentic Korean food, staff are all Korean as well, so you feel like you're in Seoul. <br/><br/>🔆SERVICE🔆<br/><br/>Service was super efficient and fast. I guess they have to be especially during peak lunch period.  They also maintain level of friendliness and professional manner.<br/><br/>My meal was prepared quite fast and the banchan (5 side dishes) came out first, and then a large pot of steam rice (soft bap).<br/><br/>🔆MENU/PRICE🔆<br/><br/>Mild Soon Tofu, $16.80(Silken tofu stew made with egg, vegetable, spring onion, pork and seafood)<br/><br/>Note: Every Soon Tofu comes with "softbap" (rice in a hot pot) and 5 side dishes.<br/><br/>🔆VERDICT🔆<br/><br/>I really like their Soon Tofu set (soon means "soft) so basically its soft tofu stew.<br/>The softbap is a very big serving, its enough for 2 people. <br/><br/>There is special technique in eating softbap. You will receive a metal teapot of hot water.<br/>Open the softbap pot and dish out however much rice you want to eat into the large bowl.  Then scoop some of the tofu stew into the large bowl and mix with rice to eat. <br/><br/>Pour the hot water into the softbap pot and close the lid. Once you're ready, open the lid and you can eat the softbap rice like its congee. This is the traditional way, however you do not need to follow it if you do not wish to.<br/><br/>I really like the tofu stew, it was full of flavour, and mixing the egg into the stew was nice. The amount of pork and seafood was good.<br/><br/>The 5 side dishes include into the set was plenty. There was kimchi, marinated sliced dried bean curd, dried seaweed pieces, freshly fried fish pieces and Nokdu-muk (white mung bean jelly).<br/>I was pretty full afterwards but was very satisfied.  A great seat meal for $16.80.<br/> <br/>Dooboo Korean Tofu House is a place I really like to go to for a good hearty authentic and fullfilling meal.

Came back here after a while, there was a line on a sunday night, but was quite a reasonable wait. It was really small inside so the tables were bit small too, limited space for food. Staffs were nice and food was a reasonable wait.<br/><br/>Got the pork galbi combo.<br/><br/>The pork pieces were pretty good, soft and flavorful, with a decent portion. It was just a bit peppery in flavour instead of usual galbi flavour.<br/><br/>The sides were also all well made (there were four), especially the fried fish as it's nicely fried.<br/><br/>The soft tofu stew itself was really nice in flavour with a good amount of tofu and a decent amount of seafood, meat and veg.<br/><br/>Rice was also pretty generous, could possibly feed two. <br/>(scoop the rice out and pour in the water to soften the hard rice) though I prefer just having normal rice lol.<br/><br/>Steamed egg was also pretty yummy, worth its price.<br/><br/>Overall, a pretty good place for a quick Korean food fix<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/> <br/><br/>xx,joelle.

DOOBOO on Swanson St is my go-to whenever I feel like comfort food. It was here that I became hooked on the Korean soft tofu stew, which I usually enjoyed at other Korean BBQ places as a staple side without much thought.  DOOBOO is always busy with people queuing up outside even before the dinner rush.

Although the food was good, the boneless fried chicken was definitely not worth it. Portion size was way too small for $29, half the plate was coleslaw. It only had like 8 pieces plus wedges which would be considered half chicken in other places.

Poor service. Booked a table in advance for my friend’s birthday but was asked to wait for another half an hour for our table. Staffs were rude and there were lots of miscommunication between them. We brought a cake but was told that we can’t have it in their restaurant as they do not allow outside food (already told them that this will be a birthday celebration in advance). Overall, a very bad experience and wouldn’t recommend Dooboo to anyone else. Don’t be fooled by the long queue outside, just go to somewhere else.

We came here for lunch at around 1.30 pm. We ordered 5 meal sets, then 3 of all were served at 1.50 pm. We had been waiting for the rest till 2.15 pm, then asked staff to track our oders. The last order were served at 2.25 pm with lower quality than normal ans not delicious at all! So dissappointed!!!!!

Overall good. It is only the restaurants do the hot-pot with hot water things. You need to follow the instructions to enjoy 100%. But always busy so staffs sometimes forget well. It will be good experience to try that unique one. Donkatsu , Yukgyejang , Soontofu , Teokboki is good

Really good Korean joint, with delicious (and spicy in a good way!) food, attentive service but slightly overpriced.<br/><br/>The tofu stew was really yummy and hit the right spot on a cold Melbourne winter day. Fried chicken was tasty but alright, the grilled pork galbi was really tasty though. Side dishes were pretty good too. One thing we did not quite understand was sotbap (where you soak the leftover grilled rice in broth, which really was just hot water). The taste was really bland but apparently you eat it after you've finished everything to cleanse your palate.<br/><br/>Service was really attentive and good, but price is on the high side. No option for vegetarians / vegans though.<br/><br/>Will come back again soon.

Really good kimchi, pretty good soup but kinda overpriced..<br/><br/>FOOD: We ordered the Pork Kimchi Stew, Tteokbokki and Cold Kimchi Noodle Soup. Among all of the dishes we ordered, I’d say the most worth it would have to be the Cold Kimchi Noodle Soup. The Pork Kimchi Stew was $16.80 for a depressing 2 small pieces of pork and that’s it :( Everything else was just tofu and cabbage which for $16.80 was really overpriced and I was surprised to find out that the side dishes only came if you order sets 😐 Usually korean restaurants would just give it but guess Dooboo’s different 🤷🏻‍♀️ The tteokbokki was not bad but not amazing either. The Cold Kimchi Noodle Soup was pretty good and if there’s anything I’d recommend it’s solely their kimchi! Their kimchi is one of the best kimchi’s I’ve ever tried so if you go there, I’d say go for something with Kimchi!<br/><br/>SERVICE: Their service is pretty good. It’s quick and fast paced but if you need any help, they’d be happy to help.<br/><br/>Overall, Dooboo’s crazy popular for it’s strategic location. They are convenient and their kimchi is really good but as for the prices, I’d say maybe look for somewhere else.

Tried the upstairs BBQ place as ground level is a la carte. ***You have to order one of the BBQ sets otherwise you can't order other varieties in BBQ menu!*** Unfortunately there's no mention of it on the menu... Food was feeling as we ordered cold buckwheat noodles from the menu as well. If you want cold buckwheat noodles, as per my friend, I'd recommend here. Guess I'll try a la carte next time and decide whether I'd recommend here or not.

We had the signature soft tofu stew and the one with ham and sausage.<br/><br/>These dishes come in a set menu including the house speciality Sot Bap and 5 side dishes. Loved their concept of Sot Bap - scorched rice served in a small heated bowl - it's the first time we have tried this.<br/><br/>The rice, I find had a different texture..it's firm and somewhat fluffy. So it absorbs the soup nicely without each grain separating. And of course the rice on the bottom of the pot crusts nicely and has got that roasty aroma, yum!<br/><br/>The stew although marked as spicy, it was just nice for us. It is served bubling hot, the broth is tasty and the doo boo is so so soft. Loved it.<br/><br/>Will be coming back for more<br/>

This place has the antidote for when you are suffering from the winter blues! The warm smells that greet you upon your entrance feeds the soul. <br/><br/>We had the mild soon tofu and a seafood pancake. The tofu in the stew was soft and silky. The broth was umami to the hilt. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous side dishes which included a fried fish. The seafood pancake was standard fare. <br/><br/>I'm not sure what Dooboo means but I wouldn't be surprised if it means soul food!

We arrived at around 12pm on Saturday to get kbbq but was told the bbq section would open at 1 (they advertised this to be all day on weekends). We decided to order from the ala carte menu instead and got the 500 grams of fried chicken and a few other items. There definitely wasnt 500 grams of chicken on the plate. More than half of the plate was potato, lettuce and pickled radish, and so we felt a bit cheated On the other hand, we really enjoyed the tteokboki so we got another one to go.<br/><br/>Our takeaway tteokboki was a much smaller portion of the one we were served dining in. We were so disappointed and again, felt cheated. <br/><br/>I would give Dooboo less stars but our experiences in the past with the bbq section was really lovely. I feel sad that our most recent dining experience spoiled my view.

You can do either Korean BBQ or just simply ordered Korean dishes here. We tried the bibimbap and also the soft rice dish. The bibimbap and the soft Tofu stew were not bad. The soft rice was plain and a little disappointing despite it came in a variety of side dishes.<br/>

A Korean restaurant with no spirit. Cold noodle soups are not even made with soba, but plain noodles. The soup is spicy as hell, you literally can’t drink it without have a bite of rice. From all the Korean restaurants I have visited, this is the first place to let me regret. It’s more like a fast food restaurant rather than a proper place for dinner. However the standard is about or below average.

Came for dinner to this new establishment. The set grilled pork had sides, fried fish , tofu seafood soup and rice with the pork. We also got kimchi stew soup . Everything tasted great and good service, the special rice that was like congee was not good. You put water but there is no taste. Overall good value for money and taste.

Dooboo has been such a good experience especially before our blackpink concert! <br/><br/>Ordered: <br/>Combo galbi set (comes with one sotbap and one stew) $23.8<br/>Entree original fried chicken $9.80<br/>Extra one sotbap $4.50<br/><br/>Review: <br/>The service was quick and efficient, the restaurant was so busy that you could see people running to get the food for your table. With a reasonable price of $20 it filled us to the brink and filled up the entire table. The stew although spicy is an addictive soup to have on a cold day complimented by the oh so soft and milky tofu it is a excellent condiment to be paired with the perfectly cooked rice. The sotbap was an interesting concept, we followed instructions and scooped the fresh rice out and leaves the scorched bottom to fill with the water to create congee. The result was very lacklustre and bland, the rice was so burnt that when I mixed it the congee turned black, it tasted burnt as well didn’t do well with any side dishes and most definitely did not cleanse my palate!! It left a bitter and burnt taste in my mouth which “cleanses” my mouth from the good food we just ate. The side dish included a whole fish which was absolutely crazy. Fried chicken was crunchy and flavourful despite the order of no extra sauce/marinates. Wished the chicken was a bit more tender though. Galbi was a complete success, tender and utterly flavourful. Sweet, tangy and spicy paired with smoky it was all the flavours I wanted in a Korean grilled pork rib. The veggies that were layered at the bottom of the Galbi soaked up all the flavours and oils of the pork it became so packed with flavour we ended up eating the whole plate. Side dishes were different from the normal Korean places, other than the typical but must needed kimchi there was a sesame marinated jelly which was nice and refreshing, fish cake, a whole fried fish and roasted seaweed which became a great pair with rice.

The foods are disappointing. Ordered signature soon tofu and signature grilled pork galbi combo but the food size are smaller that we expected. The rice and soup also came latter than the pork. So we finished the pork when the rice and soup came. It took quite bit long for foods to come. The place were also crowded and cramped, so we barely enjoyed our lunch.

Best tofu stew ever!!! Aka Soon Tofu Stew.<br/><br/>Tofu is the milkiest and softest, serve with the unique rice (SOTBAP: rice in a hot pot). Rice is cooked as you order and it could be eaten in 2 ways. Get your rice as per normal, then pour some “tea soup” to make porridge. What could be more fun than this rite?<br/><br/>There is option for non spicy soup too for kids. <br/><br/>They also have a combo meal, that comes with soon tofu, sotbap rice, and 5 side dishes. My favourite is the grilled pork galbi! And their side dishes are my fav too. The fried fish and the fish cake are so so so so good. <br/><br/>Beef bulgogi is nice but not as juicy as I normally prefer.<br/><br/>If you are looking for another soup that is quite different taste compare to Soon tofu, I recommend you to try the Spicy pork bone hot pot. <br/><br/>For something deepfried, go for the donkatsu. Beware of the size tho, its HUGE!!!<br/><br/>Overall, I guarantee you would want to come back to this place esp during this winter cold. <br/>What could be better than a perfect tofu soup when it is 5degrees and raining outside right?

This restaurant serves authentic korean lunch sets of high quality. I’ve only heard good things about dooboo and now after eating here, the food here is comparable to the food back in Korea. <br/>Pork galbi combo set:<br/>The pork is amazing, flavoursome and with the subtle hint of spice, a must order. It would have been better if the meat portion was a little bigger, but the combo meal itself was quite filling. <br/>Boneless chicken combo sets<br/>Chicken fried so well, the tangy sauce was great with the chicken. I loved the fact that it was cooked well and cooked simple. Made it the meal feel so clean and healthy (despite eating fried chicken).<br/><br/>The side dishes were amazing, and the fried fish was a definitely stand out. Not oily and full of flavour. I need this fish as an actual dish in itself!<br/>The famous soon stew was spicy, hearty and everything it needed to be. <br/>Service can be a bit slow in peak hours but would definitely come back regardless:))

What a good place for BBQ or just normal single meals! Great organised for tables and nice services even a lot of customers. Food is delicious and gets so quick. I recommend for people who like Korean food :)

Came here for lunch and it was soo good. You got to try their king size donkatsu its so good n its massive. Everything came pretty quickly. Everything was delicious n staff were really nice. Def going to come back for more!

Spicy pork bone hot pot <br/>Dooboo is my favourite restaurant to go too when I want a cheap and DELICIOUS meal. I have never once had a bad and unsatisfying meal there. This time we got the spicy pork gone stew! When the big pot came out I was honestly shocked at now big it was. The broth and the pork bone was so tasty and spicy I couldn’t stop until I was about to explode. I recommend all my friends to come here all the time and they all love it!

so delicious and super authentic korean food!! definitely recommend getting one of their set menus as it is really value for money! the ttekkbokki was a bit different from other restaurants but i really enjoyed the use of glass noodles (similar to japchae) compared to the usual ramen! defs would come back x
