Review Freddo - Melbourne

Angel Khong
The best gelato place! My favourite flavours were ferrero and pistachio; they were so rich and creamy and flavour-packed. The pistachio had a nice nutty flavour and there were chunks of Ferrero chocolate in the Ferrero gelato. They were open until late and you could dine in also unlike a lot of gelato places that were takeaways only.
Hello. imnikki
This place is an institution for gelato if you're in the vicinity of Lygon Street. Love the range of flavours available here. The gelato is smooth and creamy, and absolutely delicious. Tried the Milo, and took away my go-to flavours of pandan and yam, and wasn't disappointed at all. The flavours are on point!

Talk about amazing service!! We walked from Brunswick St after dinner to get some Gelato. I wanted to get Durian Gelato fm Il Dolce Freddo and Google states that they close at 10 and we should reach at 9.45 pm... Given that information, we bypass all the other Gelato shops and made our way there.. Horrors!! The doors were closed! Lights were on and decided to try to door but it was shut! Disappointed as it was our last night in Melbourne! Next thing u know the owner opened the door and mentioned that they had closed early but if we know what flavour we wanted, he could get it for us.... Got my Durian and Hubby got Matcha as they were had ran out on Black Sesame. Twice lucky in one night (if u read my other post about Ofuroya Onsen)....

Very nice selection of delicious gelato. My favourite includes the Durian, Pandan Coconut, Yam & Coconut, and Bailey's Irish Cream.
Alice
They have good gelati with asian inspired fruits/flavours, e.g. Thai milk tea, black sesame. Their durian flavour is a super popular flavour, it always gets sold out early.
Vanessa Wong-Lee
Excited to try the special flavours from il dolce freddo. We tried their half litre with black sesame and coffee, purple yam and coconut and Thai milk tea. Each flavour is unique and tastes great. Enough sweetness but not too overwhelming
Foodie Queen21
Amazing selection of flavors such as ferrero rocher, baileys, lychee, other fruits flavors, even durian! The ice cream tasted delicious with great consistency as well. This place has been my favorite since the first time I visited them, I will always be back for more 💕

One of the best gelato place that provide lots of Asian flavors, like durian, lychees, coconut, pandan. Very soft gelato, taste good. This place is quite small. Can wait in the queue for ordering. Not much tables inside the place. Some tables outside. Parking available on street.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Delicious icecream, great flavours and very smooth.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: This must be one of the longest standing icecream place on Lygon. And it deserves to be. They have so many great flavours – I’ve been here a handful of times and I don’t even think I’ve gone through half of the flavours. I usually go for cookies and cream or a nut based icecream. The sorbets are not too bad either.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: It is definitely underrated as people tend to choose the newer places like Pidapippo or Messina over this place.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I love the consistency and the smooth textures of their icecreams.

Plenty of indoor seats here for a family to share ice cream. There was also quite a huge post-dinner crowd, which foretold me that this place is going to be a good dining experience!

There’s quite a lot of interesting flavours in this gelato place - milo, pandan coconut and durian ice cream immediately caught my eye. I found the pandan coconut tasty but had a strong coconut aftertaste which I thought might a bit too much for a full scoop.

The durian ice cream though, was the BOMB! You can really taste the actual durian essence in each teaspoon full. Overall, the ice cream here tastes a bit sweeter than the other famous gelato place along Lygon. But, credit must be given to this place for their solid durian ice cream. I’ll come back just for that!
Steph
Purchased from the pop-up stall in QV Mall 🍨

It’s simply amazing, so good 🍨 Amazing flavours, would 💯 come back.

Just an FYI, the ice cream melts so super fast as I live 2-5 mins away from the stall and by the time I reached home, it’s kinda melted (the picture says it).
Emily
One of the best ice cream places especially when you’re a huge fan of Ferrero Rocher! We visited the one in QV and there were a variety of flavours considering it was a pop-up store. The texture itself was so soft and creamy. I will definitely be going back!
Nicole Li
Great ice cream but rude staff. Made me feel bad for having flavour testers.
FoodieQueen21
Amazing selection of flavors such as ferrero rocher, baileys, lychee, other fruits flavors, even durian! The ice cream tasted delicious with great consistency as well. This place has been my favorite since the first time I visited them, I will always be back for more 💕
Tinmans Treats
Quaint gelato shop in a street full of gelato stores. A nice mix of traditional and asian influenced flavours. Very friendly service. It's not trendy but it doesnt need to be. It satisfies.

Real easy way to get dessert after a filling lunch at universal!

Ordered:
🍦 1 scoop: $5.00

Review:
Il Dolce Freddo were really nice in letting us sample flavours and letting us choose the right choice for us.
The black sesame flavour was delicious. Creamy and not grainy (sometimes other places make it give the black sesame a sandy texture) and really easy to eat.

I was at QV the other night and saw that Il Dolce Freddo also have a pop up van in QV, with a smaller selection of flavours. Just in case Carlton was a bit far for you!

Overall, not bad for icecream and doesn't have crazy lines like pidapippo 😅.
Ravello Satria
perhaps, one of the best ice cream in Melbourne (seriously)

must order : thai milk tea, baileys, matcha, purple yam, ferrero, pandan, avocado
Alan Tse
Needed this to cool my mouth down after the hellfire ramen next door. A good selection of gelato; it ain’t Messina but no complaints.
M3lissa____
A message to all Pandan Lovers! If you love pandan, you will need to try their pandan & coconut flavour as it was amazing. The flavours were strong and it was really good.
Y
Nice selection of ice cream, cutely display. There are many common flavours but a couple of unique flavours as well.
The staff was very friendly.
Raven Lu
Love the pandan & coconut flavor!!!! Very special!!!
But the Tiramisu one tastes just like rum
My friend tried coconut one but it’s a bit too sweet
Savannah Pierce
Got there after lavezzi for added desserts hahahahaha! Tried durian and figs & almonds, great try!!! We also have a chat with the man who owns the place!!! Nice guy! Next time I will try coconut & pineapple one!
Deflykira
Love love love their baileys gelato. Perfect amount of sweetness! Their rocher gelato is also nice with little crunch of ferrero rocher :) kinda disappointed bc the wafers that accompanied my gelato smelled like durian (the server didn’t use gloves to grab the wafers too 😵)
Cloudyblue
Came and got 3 scoops, portion was rather small and also extra 50cents for getting 2 scoops of durian gelato. It was alright, didnt like the after taste of the durian (fyi, we eat durian). Our friends also got 500ml tub for $17, what a mistake! dont think it’s worth the money, it’s also $4-5 more expensive than other popular gelato places like Pidapipo, Primavera or Bibelot where they charge $12-13 for 500ml tub.

Freshly opened on Lygon Street is Il Dolce Freddo combining the best of Italian Gelato with exciting Asian dairy free icecream. Il Dolce Freddo has the feeling of walking back in time and you almos
Linnie Eats All The Food
Il Dolce Freddo is located on the busy street of Lygon street and has been around FOREVER! I’ve been here a few times back in the day when I was at uni (feels like forever ago) and it has recently changed management. So that means new flavours and a new look. There’s plenty of flavours to choose from and there’s a lot of asian influenced flavours such as pandan, coconut, lychee and of course my absolute favourite – DURIAN!
J88
Freddo ice cream is my all time favourite place for Gelato since uni days. Their superb Durian, Roche, pandas coconut and yogurt flavours are the best!
AKing On The Pig
Affogato Addiction
This ice cream parlour has a great range of flavours available.

Hazelnut with chocolate was an excellent combo.

Some outdoor and indoor seating available.

AlwaysAbout Food
The gelato here is super yummy! my partner and I also grab a tub of 1 litre gelato which includes 5 flavours of your choice. The gelato range at Il Dolce Freddo is amazing and so many different varieties to pick from 👍🏻 good job
Crabapples For Lunch
Really popular ice cream spot, especially among students living nearby. Lots of interesting flavours like Durian and other Asian tastes. Prices are similar or slightly more expensive than other ice cream outlets. Worth checking out if you're craving a flavour that other outlets don't stock.
@twogoodtoresist
Authentic Italian ice cream with a point of difference. Il dolce also has a selection of Asian inspired flavours including durian and pandan. Ferraro Roche and pistachio were certainly the stand out flavours for us!! We can’t wait to visit again
Piggy 小猪
Very nice little place for sweet tooth. Today just walked past and decide to try it out. We only order a small one flavour of the black sesame and it was amazing!! It even had real sesame in there( i was expecting just flavours not real stuff). Going back there again at some time this week to try another flavour!
Gelido
Il Dolce Freddo is the go-to place for Asian-inspired gelato. Flavours like lychee, pandan, purple yam (awesome colour!) and the rightly famous durian gelato. If those don’t appeal, there are also plenty of traditional options available. Friendly service, generous serves and great gelato.
Mustard
Italian name, Asian flavours, that's the best way to describe this gelateria. It sits on that side of Lygon St where some Asian restaurants have taken up residence. It doesn't necessarily cater for the Asian audience however, a couple of caucasian customers ordered their durian gelato with a brief cautioning from the lady serving.

I got two scoops, coconut with purple yam and lychee. Loved them both, intense flavours, smooth yet dense. Criticism is that the serving is on the smaller side, for the same it's much more generous at the "big 2". I also tasted my friend's durian gelato, that packed a kick. I'm not one to crave durian but this had me wanting more!

Of course they've got other non-Asian flavours but this would be my go to for Asian gelati.
Kerli Kerli Kerli
Classic gelato cafe located in Carlton, a hit with melbournians.. we had the lemon gelato this time as we just came from a heavy meal..
Don’t come to Freddo if you are not looking for something sweet, it’s ice cream and there are a whole heap of flavours to choose from..
I would recommend one of the more “Asian” flavours like pandan or durian..
$5 for a scoop is a little bit on the pricey side.. but it is all worth it..
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Been here twice and still love to go back. They are little ice cream shop on Lygon street near Ying Thai. They have tables both outside and inside. The unique thing about this place is that they have many Asian flavour such as durian matcha and Pandan.

Their ice cream texture is very thick and rich, which is very nice.

They also have other products besides ice cream such as hot chocolate, tea or coffee.
Jessica
Amazing and unique seasonal flavours (i.e. Durian!) that keeps me coming back for more. 1 scoop isn't enough when you visit, because there are always new flavours to try out~
Unfortunately, some flavours (i.e. ferrero rocher) are a bit too sweet and feels a bit too much after a few licks.
Steven Yuniansyah Suyanto
I highly suggest people to try this ice cream. The taste is unbelieveable and its really smooth. I like all the flavor option! moreover, they also offer real taste of durian! Thats really awesome!
Silllyadventures
Best gelato on lygon st. I've been to all the ones on lygon st and they are always too sweet and rich. This one is perfectly balanced, flavour strong. I ordered the yam and coconut and passion fruit. Amazing.
Kacangma
This is my always go to place for Durian Gelato. Cold winter day for gelato? Why not? We had Durian, chocolate and Baileys flavour. Not the best I had but it is still very good.
Emily Gue
Fig and Almond yoghurt gelato was really delicious. Extra small was actually quite a mouthful so it’s worth $5 :) Friendly staff as well. Would definitely go back to try the other flavours.
Richard Tom
Great service but not the greatest ice cream had, still good however. Pandan coconut was great, Caramel popcorn was more so average. There will be more flavours that I’d definitely go back and try for sure.
Joanne Liu
Came here at night to try the icecream. It's really cosy and when we arrived, it was quite crowded. There's sitting inside the store where you are sit down and relax, but the lighting is really poor. The prices of the icecream are incredibly reasonable and they have a wide variety of flavours. I also thought it was really cute that they had their own sticker to put on their 1.5L icecream box. The Ferror Rocher flavour definitely reminded me of the real chocolate. Would recommend trying this place out once!
Cindy Tran
3.5 stars
Came here on a terribly cold and rainy day but since it’s Il Dolce Freddo there were still people sitting down and enjoying ice cream.

Ordered: 1/2 litre, 3 flavours for $17 (surcharge for card)
Coconut pandan: Although I didn’t taste much pandan flavour there was definitely a strong essence of coconut through out the very smooth textured ice cream. The bright green colour really threw me off, comparing to Messina their pandan ice cream is a very pale green which is what natural real pandan flavour should be.

Vanilla caramel swirl: This is probably the most mediocre tasting ice cream out of the three we ordered but the texture was so incredibly smooth!

Pistachio: Had a nice smooth texture not much crunch but had a very prominent pistachio flavour with a hint of salt. But it was too sweet, I prefer the pistachio at Pidapipo.

All of these flavours were very sweet, would not recommend if you don’t like over sweetened stuff but if you have a sweet tooth then you might like this gelato place.

Service was wonderful and let us try an array of flavours!
Leslie Yapi
Best DURIAN GELATO in town!
You can really taste the real durian.
But beware, its abit rich. For me, finishing the smallest size is really an effort.
They are really good but they are really thick and filling as well.
Kimberley Leggett
If you went to Melbourne Uni, you couldn't have not been a regular at Il Dolce Freddo. The place to lick away your sorrows on an icy cone or mark the end of a dreaded exam period - Freddo's is one of the best places to go for gelato. I may be biased but it hosts the best Durian Gelato around, and its other decadent flavours like the Rocher and Bailey's are two of my other favourites. Luckily I don't like on this side of town anymore otherwise I'd be creeping through the doors more often than my waistline would like.

That being said, I love coming in here to get a cheeky scoop and fill my hearts content whenever I'm missing my beloved stinky king of fruits. If that's not your cup of tea there are heaps more options to choose from to suit all palates.

P.s. if you're a chocolate fan and you forego the Ferrero Rocher, you'll regret it.
Bear Noms
Can’t get enough of the durian ice cream which is rich and flavoursome, and a must try for any durian lover! Also love the Roche flavour. It works out cheaper to get more than 1 scoop so it’s good to try a few flavours. Definitely my most favourite gelato shop!
Theaggregate
Been frequenting this place for last 20 years. Took some visitors over for ice cream today. Looks like the Rocher no longer taste the same. Rum and raisins are salty. It is weird. Then, I started notice the logo has changed, some interior decoration have changed. Maybe they have switched hand!! Grr.. pretty sad to lose one of my local favourites! This is also the first time I left Il Dolce Freddo with an unfinished ice cream thrown away.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Durian + Ferrero Rocher Gelato

Arguably, the best durian gelato in Melbourne. The durian gelato is pleasantly pungent (if you like durian, you’ll love it), and the ferrero rocher is another good strong flavour to mix with the durian in a combo on a waffle cone. Pretty good dessert to finish off any meal from one of the other near by restaurants. They constantly add new flavours to the mix and there are plenty to choose from, but my go to had always been the durian ...
JOELLE
some really yum gelatos!

Ambience: It's a really cute shop on Lygon st, can get pretty busy on weekends but not crazy crowded. There's seats inside with music and overall pretty cozy.

Service: The service is pretty good, really friendly staffs, though when it gets busy you might need to wait because sometimes only one staff is working, which is a bit ridiculous.

Food: The gelatos here are yumss!! I've tried almost all flavors and almost all are 🌈
I do find most of the flavors a tad bit sweeter than my liking but still very reasonable, aside from their chocolate and matcha which were bit bitter.

They got a lot of unique flavors as well, they have water based like durian, usual ones like fererro rocher, coconut based like pandan (mixed with dairy), and yoghurt based which are all really good

The water based ones because they tend to be even sweeter than I'd like it to be, except for durian, which is a shame because it's the only vegan option.

Price: decently priced.

YUM : durian, coconut (taro and pandan) are my fav, fig and almond (yoghurt)
NAH: none

photos in order: place, durian/coconut taro, rum n raisin/frutti de bosco (yoghurt), right side: matcha/fererro

xx、 joelle

Really love their Durian and Purple Yam flavour. However Pandan Coconut was a bit sweet and artificial. Overall, I was impressed with their incredibly smooth and thick texture.
WhenFoodMeetsFiona
Ordered:
- 2 scoops; Durian & Matcha Green Tea

Amazing flavours brought back childhood memories. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! It can’t be compared to Gelato Messina (which is my number one) because the texture is all smooth, and I tend to like my ice cream with chunks!
Mysy
Soft and creamy with full of flavour!! One thing i love about this place is the variety of flavours... not to mention exotic asian infused flavours i.e. yam and coconut, pandan coconut, and omg did someone said durian? Although i have to say their durian flavour was a tad too mild / bland. You have to however try the yam coconut and also the hojicha green tea!!!
Ferry Gondo
Used to visit here to enjoy icy and creamy gelato at cold Melbourne night. Very delicious Durian gelato, so flavorful so full of Durian aromas. The Baileys gelato is my second favorite.
Cindy
Tried the pandan and coconut and vanilla crunch here. Absolutely divine. Pandan is so yummy. It is one of my favourite places to get ice cream. Generous serving and good customer service.

Il Dolce Fredo is one of the pioneer gelato shops in Lygon street.
Nowadays many gelato shops have opened around Lygon street, but Il Dolce is still considered as the most favourite place in this suburb.
They offer variety of typical popular gelato flavours such as, chocolate, chocolate mint, tiramisu, cookies & cream, balleys and others.

Despite of all common gelato flavours, they offer a tropical flavours such as passion fruit, lychee, durian and others.
We understand that not everyone likes durian because of the strong smell but we do believe that everyone most likely loves ice cream.
If you're both ice cream and durian lover, Il Dolce is the perfect and only "go to" place.

It's pretty rare to have durian flavour in gelato shops especially in Melbourne, I'd say that this is the only gelato shop that has it.
We went with our friends who used to live in Melbourne around 10 years ago.
They specifically requested us to bring them to Il Dolce because they missed the authentic, rich and creamy taste of durian ice cream.

We ordered the extra small cup with two flavours (durian and durian) for $7.00.
They charged additional $0.50 because we ordered both durian flavours.
The taste was rich, fresh, delicious and absolutely fantastic.
We had a great time on every scoop of the creamy gelato that melts in our mouth.
Happy to recommend the gelato durian (The Best!!!)

Service: 3.5
Price: 3.5
Taste: 5.0
Speed: 4.0

Yay: gelato durian was a star!
Nay: little bit pricey compared other gelato shops.

Location: 116 Lygon Street, Carlton, Melbourne
Phone: 03 9639 3344
Veronica Lin
Very nice gelato place! We tried durian, hazelnut, cookies and cream, baileys, and runs and raisin flavor. I love the hazelnut and cookies and cream flavor. Definitely a choice for some cold dessert.
Jericho Law
Probably one of the best (if not the best) ice cream you can get in Melbourne! No joke, you have to drop by and knock yourself out with their wide spread of ice cream.
Edgar Darmawan
Quite nice gelato with a variety of flavours to choose from. They also have durian flavour here for people who like it. I have had a few of their flavours and really liked the fig & almond in yoghurt gelato.
Cottonball♡
One of the best Gelato in Melb CBD. Heaps of favours to pick from,my personal fav is always pistachios. Duran Favour also has a strong hit !
AaronN
There was a time where if you had asked me what the best gelato place in Melbourne was,I would have said this place. But that was a long time ago. Returning after a few years, and man,the quality has slipped. Flavours were weak, and the scoops were tiny. For the price you pay, they could at least give you decent sized scoops
Helene Pham
The pandan & coconut flavour is the best choice for gelato that i gotta have at least a scoop every time i get there. and durian is also one of my favorite as well!
Isabel Iliona Lim
The creaminess and richness of both the chocolate and durian gelato are simply heavenly! Each creamy scoop melts in your mouth, delivering rich bursts of Flavours. The durian gelato is not too overpowering and the chocolate is not too sweet. 👍🏽

Ambience is not exactly the best for sitting down and chit chatting but it's a good quick to go, take away stop for an awesome gelato fix.
Mbhmp?
Best Durian gelato
II Dolce Freddo made the best durian gelato I ever had . Also other tropical fruit such mango , lychee . Smooth and perfect.
Littlemissyh
Good range of flavours, generous in serving (I got a kid scoop, the smallest one and that was very filling.) The matcha gelato is probably one of the better ones in Melbourne in terms of matcha flavour, it's quite distinct. I had the Ferroro rocher which was nice for the first few bites but afterwards felt really sickening. A decent gelato shop but I would still call Spring Street grocer as the best gelato place in Melbourne - less sweet and fresher, and what seems to taste less artificial flavours.
Katherine's Food Diary
If you're wondering around Lygon St- do yourself a favour and stop by for some of the best tasting gelato in Melbourne. Il Dolce Freddo, is a gelato store that is very popular thanks to its just right flavours and textures.
Ignatia
Bought the matcha, cookies & cream, and chocolate mint. They all tasted really nice, considering that I don't really like chocolate mint, I gotta say this one is an exception. The matcha flavour is my favorite though. It got this perfect amount of sweetness and green tea taste. Il Dolce is definitely one of the best gelato I've ever tried.
Julycheee
One of my favourite gelato places in Melbourne! Il Dolce Freddo carry traditional flavours as well as some interesting Asian flavours. While I am no fan of durian (and boy, can you smell it as soon as you enter), I hear they do the best durian gelato in Melbourne. My partner also loves the alcoholic flavours they do. Overall, the gelato have great texture and flavour.
Sylvia's POV
Even on relatively cold 12°C night, I can't say no to ice cream after dinner on Lygon.
Il Dolce Freddo is one of my 3 must-try ice cream shops on Lygon Street.
Reasonable pricing for delicious ice cream.
Tonight I had a small cup with two scoops (coconut and Matcha green tea) for $6.50
Joni Wang
Finally have a chance to try this place, and we're not disappointed! I tried the vanilla and fig & almond, my friend bought the rum & raisin. They're all very nice!! The rum one is a bit, just a bit sweet to me... Still have lots of other flavours wanna try out!!
Myles
We've been going to this place for over 3 years to get durian ice-cream and tonight it was incredibly icy. It tasted like sugar and water.

Their price is $5 for a scoop.

Recommend going to Messina! $4 for a tiny scoop and $4.80 for a small scoop AND unlimited taste testing!

Note: This place will only give you three taste testings, so choose wisely!
Raze
Always liked this gelato place until tonight when I noticed how unhygienic their food handling is. Cups were picked up touching the inside of the cup and the wafers were handled with bare hands. I assumed he had very clean hands until he received my payment in cash with the same hands. So disgusting. Never coming back and will definitely let my friends know as well.
RnG
The *BEST* durian ice cream ever 😁 we love their green tea and black sesame too! We've been coming here for many years now and never had bad experience before. We'll be coming back for more!
Amanda
The first dessert place in Melbourne I've seen that has rum and raisin flavoured gelato, and it did not disappoint! The ferrero roche was really good as well. Service is good, and the flavour range is wide. Would definitely recommend if you're in Carlton and want something other than Pidapipo.
Luke And Hannah
Tasty gelato on Lygon street. One of the traditional and most famous galato places in Melbourne. We came here many times and always enjoyed their milky icecream. Our favourite flavours are the durian and pandan. If the staff were more welcoming we would give it 4/5
Amy
One of my favourite gelati shops along Lygon. Smooth, creamy and the sweetness doesn't overpower the flavour. Flavours are more traditional, nothing funky or outrageous (besides the more unique durian) but makes me happy nonetheless :)
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Always glad to revisit .....

As far as traditional Italian gelato place to go on Lygon St, this would be the place to go.

New owners??!! Seems to continue the tradition.
Eatwithhendri
Glad to know that they serve durian gelato. It tasted like real durian not the artificial or essence one. Lychee gelato was good too. Didn't really like the pandan coconut gelato, it was a bit flat and not sure if they used real pandan leaves or essence one
BukanOtotTapiLemak
Unlike another famous gelato parlour, m*****a, their gelato does not give u the zing on your tooth for being overly sweet. Rocher is hands down the best flavour. If you are into durian, this place should be your dessert spot. They taste like real durian, not the essence kind.
Devin Fransiscus
One of the most amazing gelato i've ever tasted. I tried their ferrero rocher & durian gelato and it was sublime. Must try! (If u want to take away the durian gelato you have to call them and order first)
Goji
This place is great for gelato, I really like the variety of flavor available. The durian ice cream is very popular here, I reckon there is no other gelato shops on Lygon St has durian ice cream. Customer from next table did ask whether there is a gas leakage, it was in fact from the durian. Good dessert place to be in.
Ophelia
Love the pandan gelato here. The flavours are reliably tasty without being overpowering. Service can sometimes be terse, and prices have gone up quite a lot over the years, but it's still one of my favourite gelato places along Lygon St.
Athena Anasta
I love the gelato, I'm pretty sure they're house made I always get the Ferraro roche and strawberry gelato from here, I'm a bit obsessed! :)
RukiFoodi
The service is not great not even good I'd say
Not a very clean place either, unfortunately
But the ice creams are amazing
They don't taste generic.
Iwan W
One of the best gelato places I’ve ever been to!!! Like really… I had the pandan and green tea flavours… wooowwww…so smooth, creamy and soft!! It wasn’t overly sweet nor overpowering with a single ingredient. Everything gelled so well together! The definition of refreshing gelato! Must go if you are around this area. You can always try all the flavours if you’d like. The servers were heaps nice and prices are not too expensive either.. however it doesn’t matter about the price when you’re paying for quality gelato!
John Wall
Great ice cream. Really like the durian flavor. Its not too strong (I wouldn’t mind it stronger to be fair). A perfect dessert after eating hot food at any of the near by thai and singaporean places.
Secret Chef
Have been coming back here a lot of times whenever I was on Lygon Street in Carlton for some Italian.

A lovely cute ice cream shop not so far from RMIT building at the start of Lygon that has been running for a number of years that delivers fresh ice cream every morning.

I ordered the white chocolate with raspberry and coconut with pandan flavour. The consistency of flavours were amazing everytime and made me want to get more. Texture was as smooth as yoghurt and enjoyed every moment.

Previous events I usually choose durian or green tea as both have very strong flavours and never in my mind I thought it was diluted or lacked in flavour.

My partner ordered tiramisu and pistachio, we both liked the pistachio better than the tiramisu where it had more of an identifiable flavour.

Overall the experience was always pleasant and would recommend trying it out whenever you are on Lygon Street.
Angela Eats
I don't mind the icecream here. The flavours aren't as good as like Messina. It was half way there. The serving size was great tho!! (Sorry for melting icecream pics) AHAH
Aki
Nice icecream place on Lygon. Green tea flavour is great! Recommend it to all green tea flavour lovers out there. Also, rum and raisin is very rich and sweet, it's just perfect, simply sophisticated. Don't really like vanilla and caramel crunch which is not very surprising. Fig and almond flavour tastes confusing if having it with other strong flavour icecream.
Hello. Imnikki
Back in the days, Il Dolce Freddo was where you would go to to get your fix for durian ice cream or more importantly to satisfy your sweet tooth craving. There was always a queue out the door and people rave about this place in the same way as one would do now when talking about Messina. Unfortunately, too many other better quality ice cream and gelati shops have opened up and Il Dolce Freddo have been unable to keep up. The quality remains great - you can taste the freshness of the ingredients in the fruit-based ice cream and the chocolatey goodness in their chocolate-based ice cream. However, the flavour and the texture let them down. The flavour are less pronounced and in particular the durian ice cream could do with a bit more flavour kick. Further the texture is not as smooth and creamy as before, on some occasion the ice cream tends to crystallize and you get little bits of ice in the ice cream.
Orange_tree
The gelato texture was smooth and creamy. My favourite flavours were the fig and almond, and the lychee. They are also famous for being the Lygon St pioneer of the durian gelato. This too, was a good flavour and a gentle way to introduce newbies to the infamous fruit. Less enjoyable was the coconut and pandan. Not only was the alarming shade of green slightly unnerving, the flavour was too "strong" which made it difficult to eat more than a few spoonfuls without feeling a bit sick.
DuckieLovesToEat
I can never say no to ice-cream or gelato. So when someone suggested that I should try this place, you don't need to tell me twice! I will be there. The staff were nice and happy to help. Generous with the tasting sample. I recommend this place if you are around the area and wanting something cold and sweet.

If you love durian ice cream, this is one of the best places where you should get your durian cravings fixed! Located along lygon street, not too far away from Melb central (approx 15-20 minutes walk up to lygon)

One of my favourite gelato places in Melbourne! I am in love with their ferrero rocher flavour. It pairs perfectly with their vanilla crunch flavour, which is also fantastic.

Best gelato we have had in years ! The mango was delicious. Generous single serve for $5.00 , same price in cup or sugar cone too . We will be back to try more flavours

Great gelato at this place! Service served with a smile. Only con is that the hot chocolate is a bit too thick for my taste, will definitely need water after that.

Our fave for the durian ice cream as it is authentic, tried their pandan but it was a disaster, and if the durian is sold out then ill order their ferrero roche which is also yum!

Long lines at this popular gelato place! So many great flavours to choose from. Some were a little bland. Personal favourite is definitely the passionfruit after a nice dinner on Lygon. The sourness really packs a punch!
