Always having a good food at this lovely restaurant. Otherwise, they have some new dishes to come out now. 😍
Good portions, good flavours, attentive service!
Although located right next to the famous Hardware Ln, would not have known of this place if not for Zomato Gold.
Ordered:
Kung Pao Chicken w Peanuts $23.8 🥘
Mapo Tofu w Minced Pork $18.8 🍲
White Rice $1.8 🍚
Kung Pao Chicken w Peanuts 🥘 Extreme generous portion of nuts 🥜 Like insane amount, almost comparable to the amount of meat 🍗 Even the chicken was cooked well, tender meat and just the right taste. Waiter even consented with us if we had allergies to nuts 🥜
Mapo Tofu w Minced Pork 🍲 Although it states on the menu mapo tofu, we were consented if we were alright with minced pork in the dish. It’s made with mala sauce (chilli oil?), not too oily nor too spicy 🌶. First time having tofu prepared in this style & I absolutely loved it. Plus the tofu was pretty soft. Literally finished all my rice cause it was so good 🍚
好吃!辣子鸡超好吃!!!店内环境简单干净!!菜品价格很良心!!!推荐来吃辣子鸡!!!
been here multiple times, food is always amazing, friendly staff too
Food - We had Kung Pao Chicken and Pan Fried Pork Belly and their kung pao chicken is my favourite so far. The chicken pieces were super tender and they melted in my mouth. I love how the peanuts provided an extra crunch to complement the slightly sweet dish. My partner loves their pan fried pork belly and despite being reminded by the lovely waitress that it might be spicy, we still gave it a go anyway because it was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The pork belly slices were carefully deep fried and then stir fried with green chillies which lent a wonderful flavour to the whole dish. Definitely a must order!👍🏻
Service - Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by their friendly staff and we were quickly served. The waitress who served us was friendly and made sure we had our menu and took our order quickly. She also made some recommendations which I found helpful. We didn’t have to wait long for our food and it was perfect because we were starving 😂
Ambience - As it was after work hours around 5:30pm, the place was still relatively empty but it could get busy as I’ve been there before so we got there at a good time. They had ample seating and pleasant lighting. They also have washroom available for patrons. We chose to sit inside as it was relatively cold for me to sit outside but if you wish, you could always choose to sit outside and enjoy the throngs of people walking along Hardware Lane.
Overall, it was a good experience👍🏻
Friendly staff, authentic Sichuan food. Pickled Sichuan fish and spicy beef soup are on point. Recommended for anyone who loves Sichuan style food.
Yummy! Yummy! The pork is super soft and the ChuanJiao Fish smell good and tasty. Price is pretty fair and reasonable. Will visit again soon!
Top veneu with great decor. Ive tried many sichuan place but none is authentic as this place had done. Really enjoy the spicy fish fillet so tender
Usually for a good place there’s no need for fancy words to describe how good their food is. Authentic Szechuan food, I personally go for the spicy fish and the sweet & sour ribs every time.
Personal: 5.8.
Summary:
I enjoyed dinner at Top Tongue. Thanks to them!
What I ate:
Fried Pork w/ Pepper and Slices,
Mapo Tofu, and
White Rice.
Examples of how I ate:
Tofu pieces individually,
Spooned tofu and mapo tofu contents on rice, and
Fried pork slices with the tofu,
...all with rice.
Notes:
The rice was fragrant, but not nice and fluffy. I enjoyed it.
The mapo tofu has a sweetness (because of the black bean?) that I wasn't expecting. Now I know.
I had leftovers, and took them away in a takeaway box.
The waitress had warned me that the food would take just under half an hour to arrive, and it did, for better or for worse. I'm glad I had the warning.
The pork came out first, quite a bit ahead of the tofu. By the time the tofu and rice came, it had cooled quite a bit already. I thought it would be nice to have it with the hot tofu, so it wasn't a matter.
The waitress caught wind of the fact that I wasn't too tolerant to spice; whether or not that played any part in the food I was given, I have no idea, but the spice level was definitely tolerable.
I had held off eating the pork ahead of time (waiting for the tofu). The waitress noticed and asked if the pork was not to my liking.
If you are into super spicy food, this is definately the place to go! Skewers are awesome, authentic Sichuan skewers!! Enviroment is good, service is good. Will come next time!
Located cbd area , firstly the customer services not bad , while ordering the front services explaining food is spicy and ingredients, secondly the spicy chicken surprise me , taste great , and food overall nice . Finally price reasonable not expensive at all. Thumbs up
As a Chinese who love spicy food, it is currently the best Sichuan style restaurant I have ever tried in Melbourne. As good as Dainty Sichuan Restaurant but much cheaper.
It's now my everyday lunch restaurant.
One of my favourite sichuan dishes in town. Highly recommend.
But I guess they are shorthanded during lunch.
And I would prefer less rich dishes.
Friendly joint that deserves more customers. Big serves, tasty and fast. Spicy !!!! Would like to try the hotpots next time and the cheaper lunch menu
Top tongue is one of the best Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. The dishes are really tranditional Sichan style. I have to say, all of them are so delicious. Cute managers, hospitable and fast service. I will definitely come next time!
Just found an awesome newly open Chinese restaurant on the end of hardware lane. They have a simple menu including most iconic Sichuan cuisine. So it's really easy to order. (no risk) We tried kung Pao chicken, boiled fish w. pickles and Mapo tofu. The dish came with large size and were really authentic and delicious. yummy!! btw the inside deco was bright, clean, warm and filled with panda elements. And staffs are very nice. :))) A best place if you wanna try some Sichuan food with friends!
Finally come to the place where authentic Sichuan flavour dishes, perfect proportion for 2 people and you gotta try their signature Chuanchuan (Chinese spicy skewer in cold or hot source) and $0.9 each. We received good services and staff were nice to us, definitely good experience though. Next time come and try cold Chuanchuan, can wait for next meal with more friends!!
Never comment on zomato before, but today I have to comment on the Sichuan restaurant called top tongue! It's the best Sichuan food I had in melbourne! Especially the Dong Po pork hock! Omg, hoe come the amazing taste could be without chili😱😆😆! And the skewers pot! Really bring me back to my hometown-Chengdu! Must try it!!! Soooooo happy could have a big meal here today!! I definitely come again!!!!😋😋😋
Went there for a Saturday dinner and the overall experience is very nice.
The food portions were very generous and three dishes were more than enough for two people. Although there was nothing fancy, all the dishes tasted delicious, and the flavour reminds me of the homemade food I had in Sichuan. All of the dishes we ordered were not spicy, but you can find many spicy choices on their menu(just look for the tiny chilli icon).
The service is quick and friendly. Besides, unlike most of Chinese restaurants, it's not very loud in there, even on a Saturday night. Would be a good place to have a casual dinner with friends. I'll definitely come back to try more dishes.
