The flavour of the combination veggies and rice was wonderful! The spring rolls were also delicious! The only thing I could recommend is expanding the vegetarian options.
It is nice food, good prices. You pay what you get, I am happy to come back to have a quick lunch or dinner.
They Open long hours so never worried if they closed.
Good typical Vietnamese restaurant. Menu is extensive, I only tried the broken rice which is very good as expected, like other Vietnamese joints. Cheap price too. Basically you won’t be disappointed but won’t be awed either. It’s probably the only Vietnamese restaurant in that area, so at least got that edge.
I have always walked past this rather inconspicuous place on Clayton Rd, Clayton and wow, what a hidden gem this place turned out to be.
I'll be honest, I walked in with pretty low expectations as I'd consider myself a harsh critic on Pho places and many places have been disappointing or subpar.
I've tried many places in Melbourne, with the best ones generally being in Springvale and Footscray. This adds to the list.
I ordered a large Special Beef Pho - it was priced at $13 but when it came out, I was pleasantly surprised in that there was a lot of garnish on top (this is often overlooked), had lots of meat (1.5x to 2x the amount of most other places), was a decent size and overall was excellent.
Also to my delight, the chilli sauce on the table was the salty type chilli sauce and not Sriracha as a lot of places seem to offer nowadays.
The only things that bring the score down from 5/5 to 4/5 is the chilli oil and broth could have been hotter (more spicy and hotter heatwise, respectively), and that the ubiquitous tea thermos was not on my table.
Overall, highly recommended.
My go to place whenever I’m in Clayton. You get the pleasant crunch of the spring rolls and the freshness of the vegetables. 🍗 The crispy chicken cuts through the dish and provides a roasted taste, while the noodles are coated in sweet and sour sauce which brings the dish together. Adding their house-made chili brings the dish to another level which I absolutely recommend putting. My friends literally finished the entire tub of chili that was provided! 🤤

First review Ive done for a Pho place. Ive always been more of a ramen guy, but i have to say this was very nice.
I noticed a lot of people saying the large size isnt that large. Well i look forward to see what other restaurants are like because i thought this was huge!
Beautiful clean broth. We had the standard beef and chicken pho.
I love how they give you seperately the extras like coriander, chilli's, bean spouts etc.
Im looking forward to having this again.
Pho and the chilli oil are the stars here. Great Vietnamese for the Clayton locals with ample car parking lot out the back.
SERVICE: 4/5
Waitress was attentive and always checking in that we were okay. The older gentleman behind the register who I presumed was the owner filled in anywhere he saw where help was needed whether taking orders, bringing out food etc. Service was pleasant throughout and would happily return.
FOOD: 4/5
Growing up with Springvale food, I wasn't sure about a lone Vietnamese restaurant in Clayton where it is mainly known for Indian or most recently, Chinese fare.
After reading reviews about the pho here I was happy that it lived up to the expectation!
Pho Dac Biet - available in two sizes but the large not being THAT large so grab that size unless you're not very hungry. The broth was steaming hot and a beautiful depth of flavour. Whenever it's this tasty, I always contemplate whether to add any sauces...but of course I have to. The condiment station on every table is complete and CLEAN! That chilli oil was so good I couldn't stop lathering it on everything! Plenty of noodles and beef in the bowl as well, very happy girl here!
Seafood Fried Rice - pleasantly surprised how tasty this was as it came out looking so bland. It had the fabulous wok flavour and saltiness from the seafood although I will say that it only consisted of some prawns and diced fish cakes. Either way, with copious amounts of that chilli oil - I finished the whole lot.
Spicy Salt Calamari - least favourite dish of the day. It definitely didn't look like the picture. The batter was so dense that it was almost rubbery in texture. The photo looked like delicate rice flour dusted calamari which this was not.
DECOR & AMBIENCE: 4/5
I appreciated the spacious dining area that was clean and although stereotypical to have food photos on the wall, I do like to see the dishes when ordering. I would be happy to take my family here for a meal.
KID FRIENDLY: Definitely yes, plenty of space and comfortable environment for a family meal out.
Had been meaning to come here for a long time and was not dissatisfied in the least. Head waitress was very pleasant and explained the menu options with patience. Menu quite various with lots of pictures to aid selection. Food arrived promptly and Very fresh and well presented. Will definitely come again and recommend to others! So many tasty options to try!
Been here twice and ordered same dishes both the times because the food was just that yummy! We ordered Papaya salad (requeted chicken instead of beef) and the sweet and sour chicken in batter with steamed rice. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
I have already been to these place for a few times. I give really harsh reviews but this place is really good and I rarely give out a 4. Food is authentic, friendly staff, very fast, byo alcohol for free.
It’s quite cheap as well. I really like it.
Coming back from a Europe and was craving Vietnamese food. Normally duck down to Springvale but being super hungover decided for the local instead.
Ambience - no frills, food pictures on walls; typically Asian but not offensive
Menu - there's a lot of variety but I wanted pho and boy did it hit the spot, yes I had to add lots of chilli anda bit of hoisin but that's normal. A great meal that's good value for money
Service - was quick, although not busy I had to wave a bit to grab their attention for water. Seems like the table next door was trying to do the same.
Good place for cheap eats!
I’ve been to many Vietnamese restaurants just for pho, this one is by far the best I’ve ever had. The Pho is phenomenal, i absolutely love it. The customer service is also something to be pointed out. The staff are great and the man behind the registers’ respect and sincerity is to be saluted. I rarely give 5 stars but Saigon One is definitely one of those exceptions. Would definitely recommend.
Edit September 2019:
It's good bang for buck now. Large was $13 and more than I could stomach. Chili oil is still great. Forgot to ask about price and buying it.

Original review
Had a sore throat so went to get something brothy. Ordered a large beef ball and sliced beef pho ($12) but it wasn't that big. Just managed to fill me up. Flavor was ok, there's something lacking in the broth but wasn't too noticeable. Their chilli oil is wonderful, reminds me slightly of xo sauce. I might go again because of their chilli oil
Love the beef pho here! Atmosphere is good, decor is dated but that doesn't matter when the food is delicious. The price is excellent. The staff are great, especially the owner, but sometimes I've struggled with the language barrier when some staff are taking my order.
I always go there every once a week. This is the only Vietnamese restaurant in Clayton. The rice noodles are yummy but the amount they give you is small even though you order Large. In Springvale if u order small they give you alot of noodles and meat. But the grilled chicken on rice is so yummy. Highly recommend it. Try the rice menu ^^
I would recommend the Rice Vermicelli with spring roll. Have been to so many other Vietnamese Restaurant but couldn't find a place as good as this one. However, this is probably one of the best dish that they serve, other than this one, the rest are just average. But would still come back for the rice vermicelli!
Their chicken Pho is delicious I'll certainly be going back to try other things! Service was good staff pleasant I enjoyed my meal I would recommend it to my friends
This place deserves a much higher rating, the (1) beef pho and (2) rice vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls are the ones that keep bringing us back. My only complaint is that there are way too many options on the menu, and the smoothies on the menu are never available for ordering
Always go there for their vermicelli grilled chicken (not on their menu but can request for grilled chicken instead of pork. They have their own homemade chilli oil which I always go there for. Big portion on the vermicelli and pho, but not the rice dishes. Updated on 28/2, try their chilli oil. Best.

THE place to get Vietnamese (in Clayton). I personally like getting the Vermicelli Salad with Springrolls and Grilled Pork. This is a cash-only venue, it'll be good if they had eftpos option.
Go for the pho. Have the pho, that's what this place is all about. Other dishes are average, but the pho with raw beef is great.
Favourite Vietnamese restaurant in area!!!
CHEFMASTA 9/08/14. Saigon One is really No: 1 Friendly and fast service------Delicious food-----And the cleanest place in town. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Awesome!. Amazing Vietnamese food, especially the pho and springrolls. So glad there's an amazing Vietnamese restaurant in the suburb now. Would definitely come back soon.
Awesome. Glad that we gave it a try at this place, the pho was flavoursome and the portion was generous. The spring rolls were highly recommended too!
Friendly service, clean environment and very cheap price.
The best part is you wont feel thirsty after finish the pho soup, no MSG which is a big tick for me.
Great little place! Very flavoursome, spring rolls crispy and packed with fresh ingredients. Great variety of different herbs in the vermicelli. Excellent service from a lovely family. Very reasonably priced for quite generous serving sizes. Will definitely be back soon!
Thank god there is a yummy pho restaurant closer to home...don't need to battle the parking Demons in Springvale any more!! Really good!
