The benny’s burger was very good. The only thing that I would probably like is that there be mayo with the chips.
Had the mushroom burger and loved it. Absolute winner. So much mushrooms, sauce and a juicy patty. Will be back to try some other burgers on the menu!
As it turns out, the man behind one of Melbourne’s top fine dining destinations also knows his burgers thanks to the man behind the man: his father. It’s the fond childhood memories that Chef Shannon Bennett has of his father’s home-cooked BBQ burgers that inspired him to revisit the tradition with his own family down the track and also culminated in the opening of Benny Burger in Richmond and CBD. But unlike most of the other fast food burger joints that spring to mind, Benny Burger prides itself on using fresh, organic and sustainable produce in the creation of their burgers.
Very quick and painless process. I ordered The Chang (at only $7.45, maybe a tightar5e Tuesday IG special) and 5 mins later the buzzer went off. Winning.
The Chang is like a modern version of The Lot, you might get from a fish & chip shop, or at the Carribean Gardens back in 1995.
It doesn't have a wedge of canned beetroot, but it does have a sweet and zingy beetroot relish. This was additionally complimented by pickled thin red onion and pickles.
The egg was perfectly fried, just enough for the yolk to be oozy but not runny.
The milk bun is buttered and grilled, keeping good structure when pressed.
Decently thick wagyu beef patty had excellent flavour, grilled medium (actually there was no pink) - I prefer it grilled medium-rare, but nevertheless it was still juicy.
The local cheddar is tasty, kind of wrapping everything up in its oozy cheesiness.
Dave Chang can keep his iceberg lettuce, or better yet feed it to horses, cos that sht doesn't belong in burgers. Benny uses butter lettuce, which has a mild, delicate flavour.
So in the end, a delicious and satisfying burger. To boot, Benny has ethical standards to food sourcing and sustainability. Good on you Shannon.
Owned by Shannon Bennett, famous Vue De Monde’s chef; He introduced the “Ethical way” to make a burger meaning that all ingredients are all organically or ethically produced. We’re glad to be re-invited in Benny Burger shop, Little Collins. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed by the friendly assistant manager / chef / customer staff on that day.
I tried Richmond and just tried Collins street branch. Not as much space or seating but still the same quality of burgers and those crispy chips.
Head chef of the famous Vue de Monde at Rialto Towers, this is Shannon Bennett's burger joint!!!
Ordered:
🍔 Mr Fun-Gi: 125g wagyu beef, local cheddar, crispy onion rings, pickles, sauteed mushrooms & onions, zippy tomato sauce ($13.90)
🍟 Large chips: Use codeword SOCCEROOS between 25/6/18 - 15/07/18 (free)
Review:
Burger bun was tantalizingly soft and the combination of sauteed mushrooms and onion gave it that familiar grilled taste of a bunning's cheeky sausage sizzle.
Tangy crunchy bite from the pickle, combined with sweetness of tomato sauce and the dark intense wagyu beef and you got yourself a winning, memorable combo!!
Although my one gripe would be that the burgers were a little small :(
They forgot our SOCCEROOS chip order and it came out relatively late - possibly because it was only second day of promotions. Super cool that a starting restaurant was able to do this though! 10/10 for customer engagement
First of all, i want to say that Im so fortunate to got invited to come to Benny Burger new store at Little Collins Street. I was super excited to come and try all of the menu! Upon my arrival, i was greeted by the staff.he was super friendly and nice. He nicely explained all about the menu & the best recommended burger and the sides and the drink as well..
Food:
The Chang was super delicious!!!the vegies (pickles, onion, tomato and beetroot) was very fresh giving a sweet and sour taste into it. The 125g wagyu beef was no doubt perfectly cooked, seasoned and juicy!! The sauce makes the harmony in the burger;not too overpowering but i still can taste the melted cheese and the original taste of the meat itself.
No Apologies Double Cheese was so thick! Im not even finished the burger, but it was so satisfying that you cant think of anything.. it was really worth every $ that i spent. The wagyu beef was so tender & juicy, perfectly seasoned. the onion & pickle were fresh and local cheese melted in your mouth too. The sauce makes it all well blend together. Huge portion too!
Hand Dipped Potato Cake was delicious! The skin was so crispy it feels like you eat fish and chips but better! The layer was perfectly better & not greasy at all! Very recommended! (And order it with the extra firecracker sauce too)
Fries with firecracker was bomb too! The spicy mayo and green chilli was a perfect harmony. The fries was crispy, perfectly seasoned and cooked and not oily at all. But when you mix together with the firecracker, it was a magical moment for me..
I also order chocolate milkshake and apple juice. Chocolate milkshake was thick and not too sweet which is perfect for me!
Overall: good food, good place, good vibes, friendly and attentive staffs. I’ll be back for sure! Thanks for inviting me olivia❤️

The quality of the ingredients, especially wagyu beef, really stood out. The sauce was nice and tangy, I like the red oak lettuce they use instead of iceberg. Love they don’t charge for a gluten free bun, it tastes better than grilld. It was my 2nd time here; tonight’s burger was a little over sauced compared to my first time. Chips were nice.

Went to Benny Burger for dinner yesterday and had a remarkable experience!
Order
🔹️ Chang Burger- my mate ordered the Chang and couldn't have been happier with his choice. It's a must try for all meat lovers!
🔹️ Yoga Burger- Benny Burger isn't really a place for Vegans or Vegetarians. They only have the Yoga Burger with a rich yet easy to eat beetroot and chickpea patty. Was a good burger for sure but a few more options would have been handy.
🔹️ Firecracker fries- HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT! Extremely spicy and not for everybody but if you enjoy your spice, be absolutely sure to try these.
🔹️ Potato cake- really well cooked and wasn't excessively oily like at most other places. Great side and would recommend!
🔹️ Chocolate Shake- I haven't had chocolate shake so chocolatey in a very very long time. I couldn't stop drinking it! Highly recommend it!
🔹️ Pale Ale- Benny Burger have their special Pale Ale on the menu. If available, do try it.
Special shout out to the assistant manager for providing us with exceptional customer service. He was really friendly and super easy to talk to.
I love that Benny Burger has now opened on Little Collins st (so close to work!). I really enjoy the burgers here, the quality of the meat is next level and really sets this place apart from other burger joints I think.
I also love the concept behind it, sustainable ethical produce.
Their potato cakes are also worth trying. Don’t think a thin almost non existent piece of potato. Think thick, crispy, battered potato cakes.
And if you want a drink at lunch time? They have you covered cos they’re licensed. Win!
Thanks for having us guys!
Want a taste of Shannon Bennett's creation but can't Vue de Monde?! Benny's burger is here !
Hidden in Little Collins Street is a brightly lit burger joint owned by Shannon Bennett. Unfortunately they ran out of chicken (must be good to run out on a weeknight) but we had the famous "The Chang" and "The inferno" burger with a side of Firecracker sides, hand dipped potato cakes and a kahlua spiked chocolate milkshake.
Location: Slightly Hidden away but only a short hike from the main city area (Bourke St).
Food: Delicious juicy burgers with a wide range of chicken, beef, fish and even a lamb burger!
Price: $9-$15. Average burger price.
Service: Quick service with friendly staff.
Memorable moment: The Kahlua spiked milkshake! Tastes like tiramisu!! & The Inferno burger!
It's interesting how in the last couple of years, well known Australian chefs have branched out and opened up their own Burger shop. Why Burgers? Well its a pretty typical Aussie food that many people enjoy eating.
I watch MasterChef and enjoy seeing Shannon Bennett mentor the contestants. Any chef at such status of being Head Chef at Vue De Monde would qualify to have great food.
To bring on the Queens birthday long weekend, my friend and I decided to have Burgers for lunch. Cold, miserable weather deserves something delicious and hearty to warm our stomachs. So we headed to Benny's!
🔆LOCATION🔆
Benny's Burgers is located on Little Collins Street, right next to RACV Club. The logo is very simple and can be easily seen - it's blue with thumbs up sign!
It's not a very big place and they have a high bar table along the window which can seat about 6-8 people. Outside along the side walls there are tables and chairs with outdoor heating which was awesome.
🔆SERVICE🔆
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
🔆MENU🔆
They have an awesome variety of burgers. check out the menu on their website for full detailed description.
My friend and I ordered:
Mr Burns (The Original): Classic burger with a satirical nod to everyone’s favourite The Simpsons villain, ‘Mr Burns’. This burger is the opposite to Mr Burns, there’s no evil toxicities added, only ethical, organic & sustainable ingredients.
Ingredients: 125g Wagyu beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, organic ketchup, mayo.
The Chang Burger: The Chang is in honour of internationally renowned chef, David Chang, who publicly slammed Australian burgers “You know who f—- up burgers more than anyone else in the world? Australians. Australia has no idea what a burger is. They put a fried egg on their burger. They put canned beetroot on it, like a wedge of it. I am not joking you. This is how they eat their burger.” This one’s for you David!
Ingredients: 150g Wagyu beef, fried egg, local cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickled onion, pickles, beetroot relish, Benny sauce.
🔆PRICE🔆
Mr Burns Burger, $8.90 ( with bacon add on, $3.50)
Chang Burger, $14.90
Potato Cake, $2.90
🔆VERDICT🔆
The size of the burger was pretty decent. My Chang Burger was tasty and full of flavour but I didnt realise the beef was only cooked medium-rare. I wish I had known about this so could ask them to cook a little more longer. But besides that it was tasty but very messy. All the fillings kept falling out the side because had so much stuff inside. I liked how there was a fried egg in my burger made to perfection and obviously used a metal ring to get the even roundness of the egg to fit perfectly in the burger. Hahha!
My friend enjoyed his Mr Burns burger but again he said it was quite messy and his bun became a bit soggy with the sauce.
The Potato Cake is absolutely delicious. It is light and fluffy and outside was lightly fried and crunchy. Everything you want in a potato cake and more! Highly recommended!
I dined as a guest at Benny Burgers. They pride themselves on supporting sustainable, and ethical produce. Their beef patties are all 100% blackmore wagyu. The patties were moist and juicy and cooked medium rare. The buns were soft and nicely toasted and the flavour of the burgers were well-balanced. The loaded firecracker chips were spicy and moreish and the chickpea and eggplant salad was fresh and flavourful. Oh and that potato cake was ridiculously good. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I really liked that they used paper bowls and forks instead of plastic. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
BENNY BURGER with @stellyyeats this place is walking distance to flinders and close to two tram stops making it very accessible. The service here was so good, very efficient and gave us our food really quickly. The concept itself was so unique. The menu looked like a newspaper, and there was this satirical news article about David chang 😂😂 and if you’re bored (not that you will be), there’s even a word search on the side. We tried the CHANG and INFERNO. Both were rly good but we chicken fillet in the inferno was extra yum yum. The CHANG was delicious too, a fresh patty of Blackmore wagyu and super tender. The buns of both burgers were made fresh there and were so fluffy. The “firecracker” loaded fries were spicy but also tasty. BUT the highlight has to be the POTATO CAKE!! It’s a it oils and lacks a little bit of salt, but it’s the crispiest potato cake I’ve ever had in melbourne! The shakes were a bit overly sweet so it was hard to eat the burger fries and shake in one go without water, but it wasn’t lacking in flavour lol. Overall, 7.5/10 good service good concept
I was lucky to be invited to try the ethical burgers at Shannon Bennett’s burger joint, Benny Burger! A small venue located on Little Collins, it has a very interesting concept and a funky interior.
Benny Burger emphasises on their organic, sustainable and ethical burgers, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients which are definitely reflected in the flavour! We tried The Chang and The Inferno with chicken along with a side of loaded firecracker fries - our favourite burger being The Inferno. The chicken was crispy and tender, the sauce gave a nice hit without being too spicy, and the avocado cut nicely through the heat with some creaminess! However the best part was definitely the house made buns - super soft and fluffy, and bouncy at touch! We also got to try their famous potato cakes, which were definitely did not disappoint! Although slightly oily and could do with a little more, we were mind blown as these were definitely the CRISPIEST potato cakes we’ve ever had!
Overall, we had a fantastic meal and Benny Burger and I would highly recommend this place if you haven’t tried it already!
Thank you for having me, and I look forward to coming back!
Really impressed by the service and food this time at Benny Burger. We had the Fungi burger and the Chang coupled with some cheese fries. Would have loved to try the loaded friends by they were sold out. Thank you Justin for making our night
OMGosh!! This place is amazing, THE best food... and such an amazing concept.
Sometimes you just visit a place that ticks every single box. My analogy is like flying first class around the world then you have to fly economy. You just don’t want to go there hahaha
And that’s how I feel tonight. Shannon Bennett, a chef from another famous Melbourne restaurant is the owner of this restaurant. He has done Melbourne so proud in his attempts to provide local sustainable, organic and biodynamic ingredients. And he had nailed it in my opinion!
My partner and I were invited tonight and we had a potato cake, which was simply the best I’ve ever had in my life. Crispy and crunchy but not greasy. We had loaded fries which were also crispy and tasty and crunchy to the end.
We shared a Fish burger, a Chicken Inferno burger and a No Apologies Double Cheese burger. They were sooo delicious, full of flavour. You could taste the difference in the quality of the ingredients.
I had a Benny Brew Pale Ale made by Coburg Brewing and I love the fact that this beer is made locally.
And for those who are gluten intolerant, the buns are free. Yay!! This is the first place that I have been to where you are not charged extravagant amounts for gluten free buns!
I will definitely be a new regular. You must visit this place, so far there is a store in the city and Richmond. Like me, I suspect that no other hamburger w compare! Lol
Grilled is definitely their alternative, selection of burgers are very good, I enjoy the burgers and they have great specials. So I rate 4 stars for them
Good selection of burgers. Had the chicken inferno burger and its one of the best burgers I have had. The layer of flavours was amazing. Loved the bun. Must try burger.
Benny Burger is great because all of their ingredients are super natural and fresh and their cheese has even won awards! You can definitely taste the quality in the burgers. Another highlight were the chips which claim to be made from only potato, oil and salt -- they were super crunchy on the outside and insanely light and fluffy when you bite into it.
A small burger joint in the corner of New Chancery Lane and Little Collins St. Not crowded and food is delicious! Range of burgers and the chips with price range from $8 to $14, it’s a place that you must try! Will definitely come here again soon
Fabulous burger joint for the health conscious. All foods are sourced locally, using recyclable packaging and food is either cooked on site or at the Vue de Monde and delivered over!
We recommend everything we tried however especially the Mr Fun-Gi with wagyu beef, sauteed mushrooms and onion rings which where not huge rings witg lots of batter on them. I was thinking, about what makes Benny's different from other burger joints and it could be becuase they try to use fresh, organic ingredients where possible. The thick beef patties aren't cooked til dry and the burger sauces as well as the mayo used tastes so delicious.
If you like to drink beer with your burger feast they also sell Benny lager which is on tap as well as organic cola and other sodas. Will try the Richmond Benny's next.
The first time I fell in love with a burger was when my parents drove me and my sister to the Rosedale milkbar, got giant burgers - eggs, beetroot and a pattie the size of my face - and we sat in the car and ate it. That was a long time ago but I still remember it and to this day, no burger has even come close. Until 2 weeks ago when I chomped down into a Chang. Yes, I'd heard stories of the 'ethical burger' but you know what, it makes for a bloody tasty meal! Us country girls know what proper farm food tastes like and this is proper. Proper beef, proper bread and proper cheese - its should be so simple yet for some reason its so hard to find. Some reviews mention wait times but I've been there 3 times and never had a problem - real burgers made fresh take time to make and my wait seems reasonable and worth it. This is a definite recommend, even just for the fact the staff are just so wonderfully pleasant - much nicer than the Rosebud milkbar owner. Plus I'm fancy now so I drink bubbly water and they have it there for free.
So glad this place opened up in the city, it's perfect for a mid week bite! I tried the Mr Burns this time, and it was delicious, as too were the fries! Plus its organic, so can take my nieces and nephews guilt free. Can't wait to try the Yoga burger next!
I really enjoyed the burger I had here today the bacon was perfect and you didn't have that sugar induced burger bun taste lingering in your mouth afterwards which was great! I also really enjoyed the fries and just the right amount of whatever that salt they were using which was brilliant!!
We all managed to sit around a really nice marble table in the courtyard during the afternoon sun which made for a great lunch, will definitely be going back!
Awesome service and yummy food! Was so looking forward to trying Shannon Bennett's burgers and it did not disappoint! We had the fish burger and the Mr Burns burger with cheese and the special loaded fries. We had the Benny Brew and the Vue Pressed juice (Energy) and they had sparkling, still and chilled mineral water on tap with a refillable cup or fill your own water bottle. The burger was perfectly cooked and the fish was so fresh and tasty. Excellent condiments. The loaded fries were AMAZING, they were everything good fries should be. The drinks were also delicious and refreshing. Definitely coming back here when we are in Melbourne next, hope they come to Adelaide soon!! Definitely recommend this place!
Glad this has finally opened! Have been to the other in Richmond a few times but great to have it in CBD. The Mr Burns is simple and delicious and the fried chicken burger is pretty good too! Dangerously close to my work so have to be careful!
Fantastic burgers, great service, all in all my favorite burger joint in the area. You can't go wrong with Mr Burns (extra cheese) and the firecracker fries are next level! Highly recommended!
Great setting and unexpected in a little laneway, bar jime Nextdoor is a real find and great to have martini with a sausage roll burger, without a doubt the most creative burger I have ever eaten
Delicious! I tried the no apologies burger and i was not sorry! I usually go for the cheesy burns but tried something new this time. I also love their fries, sooooo good. Definitely going back for my work lunch next Friday
Do yourself a favour and go get yourself a Mr Burns burger!! Absolutely best burger in town and the firecracker fries are life changing!!! Dangerously close to work though!
Delicious burgers and great to have it closer to work. Quite possibly the best potato cake I've ever had and I can't get past the strawberry shakes. The Mr Burns is always a winner for me.
The burgers are super tasty and it’s definitely service with a smile!
Very efficient service and the flavour is amazing! Nice to not feel gross after a burger-it’s super fresh and there’s lots of variety in the menu.
Best Burgers in town! I work nearby and have been waiting for this place to open.
You can absolutely taste the quality of the ingredients and the freshness of the products! Went on a Friday and the place was buzzing. Had the Mr Burns and cheese fries, there is so much choice on the menu! Staff are super friendly and genuine-no fast food robots here!
Great place for a group of colleagues or even solo dining- lots of seating available. I’ll be getting some takeaway for the office soon too.
Went to Benny Burger for dinner yesterday and had a remarkable experience!

🍟🍟🍟🍟Don't forget to follow me on Zomato and Instagram for more photos and reviews!! 🍟🍟🍟🍟
I had the standard fare Mr Burns with added cheese and the Firecracker fries. Burger was well cooked, medium rare and well constructed. Bun was really nice, apparently house made. Not sure I would venture into their more creative creations as the simple burger was good enough for me. The firecracker fries were fantastic. The green salsa and addition of fresh chilli really added spice. A nice feature of this place is the free sparkling mineral water. Also their efforts to reduce plastic use through paper cups and straws and wooden utensils is a great initiative. Really impressed.
I finally got to try this, as it just opened in CBD Melbourne. The hype is totally justified, this isn't just your average burger joint. They have a variety of different burgers, literally, something for everyone, and with the first bite, you can taste the love gone into it. My burger patty was perfectly cooked and seasoned, it melted in my mouth, I can not wait to be back!
Mr burns with bacon and cheese and the firecracker fries. Sensational. Burger cooked just right, fresh and tasty ingredients. Chips had just the right amount of kick. Had to take a phone call before I finished and even after the burger had sat on my plate until it was cold, the damn thing was still one the tastiest morsels I've had in a while. Will be back!
Ordered the "No Apologies Double Cheeseburger" and salted fries to go with. Service was great and prices are reasonable, from ordering it only took a short while before we got our food to take out.
The bun of the burger was soft and held it's shape, can definitely taste the butteriness of the bun. The beef patties were cooked perfectly with pink colour in the centre and the condiments were all perfectly balanced. The burger itself was not falling apart when eating from overload of sauce and juices which is a win. One of those burgers where you feel completely satisfied without feeling sickly after.
Fries were crispy outside, soft inside and evenly salted. Even after finishing the fries there was no residue oil in the packaging.
Have walked by here many times but never walked in before, would definitely go back an recommend.
