One of my favourite place to go on a cold night! Food is amazing. Have so many selection of meat and seafood which is great. They charge the sauces and unlimited fruit and ice cream for ONLY $3.8!! There is no reason to complaint about the prize of the self-service sauce!
They also have a small individual pot if you’re out with friends and don’t want people to double dip or anything dw cause you get your own pot. Love the thin slice beef, crab meat balls and fish roe!! Special chilli sauce is recommended!

Famous Hot Pot - Melbourne, CBD
$16 Famous Hotpot Lunch Set
I only have my mum to thank for being adventurous when it comes to eating food, trying different thing and not saying no when offered something I haven’t tried before. This is why when I take her to lunch I love to repay the food adventures she took me on when I was younger by taking her to new spots in the city. Hot Pot is a great mum & son lunch adventure, its a wholesome style of eating that is drawn out, you spend time over a booking cauldron of liquid and that time spent is time you can spend chatting, its the perfect Mum hang! Famous Hot Pot has a lunch special which is absolutely the best value hot pot deal in the city for sure. For $16 you get an mouth watering assortment of seafoods & meats plus some noodles to for your hotpot PLUS you get to choose what kind of broth you want oh yeah PLUS a drink!!!, in our case we shared a sichuan spicy broth and a clear chicken broth. Delicious! While the service here wasn’t as attentive as places like David’s Hot Pot I would say there’s not a huge amount of complaint to be have for something that costs $16. It was a fun & filling experience and for that I tip my hat to them. The soup bases didn’t have the usual goji berries and fragrant herbs that one could expect from a hot pot but again - It had all the necessary elements and for this price it did the job and did it well. A delicious hideaway on a cold and rainy Melbourne day. Get in, hand over a 20 buck note and get some change. DELIGHTFUL

Fabulous foods over there especially that I had their hotpot buffet. I was enjoyed their service and their staff is polite and patiently while servicing us. In contrast the price for hotpot buffet over there is quite worth it and they did promote to us their bbq and hotpot buffet is only 46dollar although I did not take it as was really quite big portion for both come together as I saw the table next to me(Prefer XL size food lover to have it). 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

🍜 Quality of food - 5/5
👨🏼‍🍳 Quality of service - 5/5
🏠 Atmosphere/Environment- 4/5
💵 Price - 4/5

I would highly recommend going to Famous hot pot. The quality of food is on point and the broth just makes you want to take it home. One of the only disappointing factors is that if you have two people you can only have one flavour of broth unless you want to pay an extra $14 for second flavour, which is on the pricey side. If the price was a bit closer to $30 a head we would nearly have perfect score, but that might be seen as picky.

Will be going back again

Been here a couple times. Overall it’s been a good experience, thank God they can speak english ‘cause i’ve been a bit skeptical when i went to a little restaurants in Chinatown area. The broth is good, the price is not expensive. Always have a good time here and left with a full stomach 💕

Had a great trip to Famous Hotpot! There were three of us and we enjoyed the hot pot, we ordered A la Carte dishes and were told that we could make our own dipping sauces and have free soft serve ice cream and fruit for $3 each (which we did).

The staff were quite friendly and attentive too. Will definitely revisit!

This is my first time trying famous hotpot & BBQ. I really like how the restaurant got both BBQ and hotpot so I decided to pick 2 hotpot which worth 16.5$ and 14.$ i order 2 different soup spicy one is clear soup. I love the clear soup is gaves various taste towards the meat! The spicy just hot, I cannot identify the favour. Okay, i’m love bBQ meat so I decided to ordered 1 set of pork C! However when i got the bills it said i order 2 set of pork C. Well i’m not really mad, because i’m already ate all the food not turning back now, I understand the waiter english is not that good, so is a misunderstanding. Overall I recommend everyone to have hotpot instead of the meat:3 The BBQ iss tasty but is a bit expensive and much less than the hotpot!

Went there for lunch with my colleagues. We were hesitant at the start as we had only one hour for lunch. Hotpot may take longer time to cook and eat. But we are happy have made the decision to go. Good range of lunch set selections with reasonable pricing. Efficient and friendly staffs, meat and veggies were fresh. Amazing experience! Will def go back for dinner. 💕

Be honest, that is the best restaurant to have hot pot buffet here, their staff are so kind and friendly.👍👍👍 The Tom Yum soup and drunken chicken soup is amazing combination, one is spicy and sour favours, the other one has cook alcohol inside. Both delicious 😋😋 The sliced beef and vegetables are fresh. The garlic sauce and sesame paste are fantastic😋😋

Came here for my 22nd 😊 and ordered the mapo tofu, deep fried buns with condensed milk, seafood and beef hot pot lunch set and a serve of the chicken wings 👌 we also brought a cake to celebrate with and the lovely gentleman named Malcolm came over with a complimentary drink, plates and cutlery for the cake and turned on a birthday song through the restaurant's speaker haha, that part was a bit awkward but also very nice of him to do 😁 the service definitely deserved a thumbs up, will definitely go back again!

we tried the tomyum and drunken chicken soup. And they were both delicious!
That was our 1st time going to this restaurant, but we reckon buffet would be a great option rather than ordering separately
Their meat was above average. I ordered every meat, and final thought was only the marinated beef.
The staff looked exhausting which is understandable since it was so crowded there. Though they were all very nice and tried to be supportive, comparing to other busy Chinese restaurants haha
The reason I minus 1 star is because they asked us to go down stair to pay for the bill while we were still eating, and it was like 40mins until they closed. So kinda annoying.

Great choice of soups and ingredients for a hearty hotpot. The tom yum soup was surprisingly the best even though this isn’t a Thai restaurant. The different soup flavours get watered down though as you progress through the meal because they refill with the same broth. Also, expect to keep reminding the waiters about your requests when it gets busy.

My friends asked me to try this shabu-shabu restaurant around china town. It was winter night that day, and im feeling so cold. Hot pot was such a comfort food to get..

We ordered so many kind of meat and vegetables. But what amazed me is that the fish ball was so good! The broth was so fresh and perfectly seasoned.

The staffs was always so busy.. but they were quick in taking our orders.

Will be back for sure!

I think this is actually one of the best Chinese hot pot places I’ve been to in terms of food quality and value for money. Definitely recommend the all you can eat for about $34 per person, sooo worth it. Must order the fish fillet, it’s so good! I’ve tried the drunken chicken and the spicy broth, both really good. Just keep in mind not to over order because they will charge for it, which is fair enough, no good wasted. This is now my go to place for Chinese hot pot. They also do BBQ so you can pretty much have BBQ and hot pot at the same time, tooo good.

We had the hotpot buffet here with a shared double flavour soup pot (chicken and mushroom soup) at $38.80 per person. Overall the food was really fresh and plentiful. I particularly enjoyed the sliced lamb, fresh fish paste, quail eggs and all the vegetables (chrysathemum leaves, cos lettuce and bok choy). It was really nice to have the partitions between tables and I would recommend sitting on the ground floor as it's quieter. It was possible to order a la carte as well.

😱Lizzie's first impression: The place is bustling on a Saturday night, especially on cold days (rightfully so).

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: There was a variety of choices between the meats, seafood, instestines and the meat/seafood balls. We got the all you can eat option so we were spoilt for choice.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: The price is a little steep if you are not a big eater and for someone like myself, i think its not too smart to get the all you can eat option!

🎖Lizzie rates overall: A great place for hotpot and if you come in a big group you will get the option to have your own little hotpots rather than a big shared pot.

A friend of ours returned recently from Honkers and has become obsessed by the hot pot experience so we came here to Famous to have a go ourselves. I generally don’t go for the cook your own meal concept whether it’s a Korean BBQ or yea ole fashions steak on a hot stone concept but thought I would reserve judgment.

The whole set up was pretty good. Nice tables and cushions, induction hotplate and a trio of soup bases to choose. A couple of us were into spiced so that was essential and Sichuan spice based. We also got to select a couple of dipping sauces each and then all the ingredient arrived. A serious amount of food. In addition the the base buffet items we chose crispy fish skin and sweet corn, both were really good so glad we got extra.

I enjoyed the experience overall. Two hours passed quite quickly and I did get the social element of putting some ingredients in and chatting while waiting for it to cook, sharing and all. I found it funny that cocktail sausages appeared on the menu, along with spam. Some in our group were challenged by the texture of some of the items, the taro/fish balls being the biggest miss in the group. I loved the crispy fish skin just soaked for less than 30 seconds... delicious

Hot pot buffets cost $34 pp here and there is an extra charge for additional items not part of the base deal. They had a good variety of beers & wines including a sauv bee at on $18 a bottle.

To take the guess work out of ordering individual dishes we opted for the all you can eat. We got a duo of broths for the three of us which were hot and spicy and mushroom, the spiciness of the hot and spicy was diluted as time went on and the broths got saltier (which I wanted to drink at the end). They did give us a little top up a couple times that night. There were also a variety of sauces to choose from, I enjoyed the sesame paste and garlic & sesame oil which went well with the meats. Not sure why people get their own little hotpots, I like the idea of communal dining and sharing as you would at home.
You get quite a variety of produce to choose from the list, the ingredients are presented nicely and some items such as the mussels and squid fillets come pre-cooked unfortunately. The real winners were the thinly sliced meats and udon noodles. Don't get overly excited like we did and dump everything in at the start, we ended up overcooking a lot of food and ended up with mushy veggies!
Don't usually have hot pot often outside of home but this was a pretty decent buffet within the CBD. Great place to catch up with friends, nothing better than a freezing Melbourne night than a social gathering around a bubbling cauldron.

Came in on a Sunday night and was ecstatic about sitting upstairs away from the noise downstairs.
Their buffet deal is only for one shared pot amongst people ($33.80), if you require your own pot it is +$2 and if you'd like two flavours of soup in the one pot it is an extra $4. Their sauces for the buffet were limited to only chilli oil, special sauce (soy sauce), satay sauce and peanut sauce to name a few. If you'd like proper chilli sauce and hoisin, oyster sauce etc you'll have to pay extra.
Overall I thought that their variety for the buffet was very planned, the marinated beef was very delicious and their seafood ball selection was also delicious! The vegetables had a very extensive list as well. Service was attentive and the waiters are very organised. Bring cash as their counter says a 1.5% surcharge on card!

A great alternative to Dainty Hotpot! Had the hotpot buffet with a group of friends and it was a pretty satisfactory experience. There are plenty of seats which means no queuing (even on a Saturday night) and no time restriction (unlike the 1.5 hr time limit in Dainty). Variety of hotpot dishes was fairly decent (wished they had a greater variety of pork cuts though) and the various hotpot broths were really palatable if one is into drinking broths (Dainty's were too salty and oily to drink). Would have been better if the pot was larger for ease of sharing among bigger groups and there had been greater variety of sauces to go with the food. Would have also preferred the BBQ to be buffet-style as well (just like many hotpot places in Singapore). Overall, a good experience because it's free-flow food with no time limit at a fair price!

Famous Hot Pot - Chinatown, Melbourne All you can eat barbecue and Hot Pot I do believe the most fun you can have at a restaurant, with a group of friends is over a boiling cauldron of broth, or in this instance two broths. For my second visit to Famous Hot Pot it is nighttime on a balmy spring Melbourne evening. I meet up with my 2 friends, or as they are now known - Broth-ers, 2 friends that share a love for Broth. Hello @bensonaus + @foodclubau. Famous Hot Pot have thrown down the absolute challenge to us, All you can eat hot pot AND wait for it… barbecue as well. We couldn’t wait any longer to dig in and that’s when the madness started, Our absolutely amazing waiter ‘Sheldon’ brought out a myriad of ingredients for the hot pot and for the barbecue. There was a mountain of seafood, cuts of beef, lamb & pork, vegetables, mushrooms of all variety. The ingredients just didn’t stop coming out, they were all fresh + they were all delicious. We were working with a Sichuan hot pot base and a drunken chicken base, two fantastic options. The drunken chicken base had a large amount of chicken bones simmering away throughout the evening while the sichuan base had all the right kick to it and by the end of the night the broth had a depth to it which was unbeatable - the result of simmering ingredients throughout the evening. I’m focusing on the hot pot here because we are a soup blog but don’t let that detract from the absolute mastery of our good friend Sheldon on the barbecue, while we were dipping away at the broth the guy had gone and cooked up some cheesy enoki mushroom and cheesy sausages, Sheldon - you’re magic! It was all delicious. If you come here, make sure you bring friends. This is A LOT of food, it’s non stop and unrelenting but good food is about experiencing variety and the variety on offer for this hot pot buffet was plentiful and delicious. I’ll be back, i’ll be back with friends - I’ll be back to try and conquer this all you can eat once again. Delicious. 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Service: 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜/5 Overall: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.75/5 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 More reviews on Instagram @soupfluencer

A whole new something to try. For a minimal $38 per head for 2 you get 1 soup base if you have larger groups you can pick up to 3 bases, we had satay, plus a meat tray per person. The big pot is sat on a cook plate in front if you and simmers. Then you can add any of the hundreds of ingredients and you can just keep going back to add more to your simmering soup base, from prawns to seafood balls, from bok choy to silken mushrooms, ducks blood to squid and bamboo shoots. There's also an array of addatives like crushed garlic, chilli and other sauces. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too. They top up your soup base at least once. Then there's soft serve ice cream or you can pay extra for stuff off the menu including desserts.
