If you walk past the line of suits coming out of the neighboring store there is a pleasant surprise waiting for you.
This compact diner is run and staffed by a happy couple who always look run off their feet but always smile and laugh (They are what makes this place so good).
The food is as close to traditional street food as you will find in Melbourne; you can close your eyes and pretend to be eating in Shinjuku easily.
The Ebi don and unagi are especially excellent.
Great service, excellent food and very reasonably priced.
Never accepting tips but remembering who you are makes this place my favorite Japanese restaurant.
Another happy long-time customer. This little diner has shrunk since I started going there in the late 80s. A more impersonal eatery now occupies what was their dining room, and the staff are down to the owners, a lovely senior couple whose unstinting cheeriness and courtesy in these cynical days damn near moves me to tears. Anyway the food is excellent too, and won't break your budget by any means.
