Review Komugi Bakery - Melbourne

This is typical of Japanese food that is presented in the most beautiful way. Although I'm not a fan of the breads as I find them a bit sweet. I am looking forward to trying the hazelnut cookies that were on display. The other cakes in the front of the cabinet look amazing but again - it's all about the looks but the taste is just pure sugar. Prices are reasonable. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Good parking up to 3 hours free.

The pastries, breads and cakes selections are quite different from the other large Asian bread chain stores. I like their pretzels and their breads.

Superb bread!! wide range of unique choices Place is well lit Staff are very kind! Personal favs: komugi’s original pudding and komugi’s cheesecake (5+1 pack) Some bread can be compared to either breadbtop or bonbons but komugi is the store id pick!! XD

I was not impressed with my last experience at komugi. They where both terrible, one was surposed to be a walnut cake and it just tasted like coffee which was not in the description. The other was a chocolate banana moose cake and it was so solid and was not moosy at all. Very disappointing. I wont be going back. Not the first time iv been disappointed by komugi at eastland.

I love the bread here. Its crispy on the outside, soft, fluffy and chewy on the inside. There is always something new available and now they are even selling drinks.

The cakes look very appealing. However, the black sesame swiss roll I got is not soft and moist. It tastes like it has been stored for a few days and not freshly made. Probably I’ll try the cheese cake next time.

Lovely staff. Not so many choices. Pretty cakes. Will come back.

This bakery at Ringwood has so many cute desserts. Bought some to try and they all tasted amazing! My favourite is the Hanjuku cheese and the mango scroll! 😋

Not the best bakery but the products definitely looks beautiful and very appealing. The taste is alright. There are many type of breads and cakes to choose from. I would prefer the savoury breads as the sweeter products are too sweet for my liking.

The staff and service was wonderful. They were really nice and greeted me every time I came in.

After walking around for a few hours, was a bit peckish and decided to get something from this Japanese bakery in Eastland.

🔆LOCATION🔆Komugi is located on Level 2 of Eastland in the food court area.

🔆SERVICE🔆Really great service, but that;s because I was only 1 of 2 customers in the bakery. So they were quite attentive behind the counter.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
I wasnt sure what I really wanted.

Had a quick look around in the bread section, but there was nothing appealing. So I wandered back to the cake fridge display and saw a little sign 'Best Seller'. I thought hmmm, it must be good, so decided to get that to try.

Hanjuku Cheese Roll $3.80(fluffy Hanjuku cheese in a sponge cake roll layered with light cream)

🔆VERDICT🔆

Disappointed - definitely not worth being labelled 'Best seller'. I cannot identify how or why its suppose to be that good?It just taste like a normal sponge cake.

When I went to pay for it, the guy said not to eat it until 15 minutes later. I asked why? And he said that its still frozen. Oh my gosh, frozen? Does that mean the cake is not fresh?

I actually waited 1 hour later (yes I carried it with my while walking around Eastland) then I sat down and tried the cake). I dont even know if this bakery is owned by Japanese people and if these types of cakes and bread are really Japanese style. Some of the sweet and savoury bread you can easily buy from Bread Top.

We recently got back from Japan so everything that’s Japanese related seems to get our attention so when we saw Japanese bakery, we were like, got to go here!

Komugi is similar to a breadtop. A lot of different cakes and pastries to choose from. We decided to pick their bestseller, the cheese tart and a custard butter bun.

The pastry on the cheese tart was quite dense and dry however the filling was oozing out with creamy cheese like custard. I wouldn’t say it’s the best cheese tart but it did satisfy my cravings.

The custard butter bun was quite a letdown. The bun was soft and fluffy. There wasn’t much filling and it didn’t live up to it’s name, ‘custard butter’. The filling was quite solid and didn’t taste much of custard more so thick cream.

Overall, cute concept but they really need to work on the quality of the pastries.

I don’t live near Eastland but if I do, I will certainly be buying lots and lots of goodies from here on a regular basis. This is my second visit at the store and both times I tried a number of their menu. These include matcha tiramisu cake, hanjuku cheese roll, hanjuku cheese, original pudding, cheese tarts and the cream horns... all were just delish!!! Their products are definitely better than any other outlets out there like Hokkaido or Uncle Tetsu... Next visit I will try their bread....

Stumbled across this Japanese bakery selling assorted cakes and breads. Some are designed woth cute charaxtere. The store has great lighting and clean.

We bought the sausage and cheese which is cheap for its price, slightly dry.

The turtle bread was cute and the batter on top was firm and sweet.

Service: they are great. So patient with me umming and ahhing about what cakes to get. Also helped me cut my bread in half so my kiddies could share.

Food: not very good at all. We got a pork floss bun with mayo, but it was sooooooo much mayo and not very nice tasting mayo either. I had to force that one down kiddies’ throat.

I got the tiny chocolate half baked cheesecake for hubby, that was quite nice. Saku saku which is like a chocolate brownie cake was so frigging sweet I had one bite and refused to eat it again, and my chocolate loving hubby couldn’t finish it at all and chucked it.

Komugi sits right at the edge of the Eastland food court and offers a great selection. Most are quite similar to other stores such as Bread Top, but Komugi also offers a great selection of specialty loaves and baguettes! Tried the red bean bun, the bread is so soft, as well as the cream bun (lacked quite a bit of cream but pretty good nonetheless). Overall, a great place to grab a quick carb-y bite to eat!

I've been here twice now. I wanted to give it a second chance after a very underwhelming first visit. While the prices are slightly cheaper than other Asian bread shops, the quality of their products are not of a high standard. This time round, I bought the pork floss buns. The bread was dry and the filling was scarce. It wasn't tasty as well. I love Asian breads and am always looking for new places but I'm sorry Komuji....you didn't do it for me.

Compared to breadtalk or bon2, this is def a winner, their bread was soft and fluffy, chocolate roll cake with vanilla sauce was divine, tiny cheese tart that melt in your mouth, and chocolate horn with perfect thick ganache inside, just yum!
I didnt give 4 as some was not as good, for example their fruit rolls are dry and pork floss bread was sad as the floss was almost nowhere to be found.
Service was good and fast, and the place was clean, wide and comfortable.

If you haven't already tried their cheese tarts get here asap and do yourself a favour!
Crisp pastry and runny middle, sooo good!
I'll be back

This new bakery situated at the end of the food court is a must if you love buns .The coffee bun is excellent compared to other bakery like Breadtop or Bon Bon .Taste like ROti Mum in Singapore when you eat it warm .
Price is cheap for $2.30 ..The other buns are cheap compared to outlets like Breadtop .The Hanjuku original and matcha is a must to buy .My kids loved them .Will come back again

Whilst going shopping at Eastland, we walked through the food court and lo and behold, a new bakery sits tucked away in the corner. I could not resist and stumbled in, finding out it is a Japanese bakery with Cheese tarts as one of their best sellers. Of course Mr D grumbled along but who could say no to baked goodies!
