So we went to Melbourne to have some Korean bbq and every place was soo full and the wait times were crazy, so we decided to stroll through China town and stumbled onto this little gem of a place hidden down an ally and we were so glad we found this place.. this venue has a busy atmosphere very pleasant staff were incredibly efficient fast service And the food to match flavour delicious!! Reminds me of when I was in Korea I would highly suggest this place. Hope you all can enjoy one day.

Had the soy chicken value meal which comes with the dish, salad, and rice with pasta. They have a selective menu with many different choices of meat and even quite a few vegan options! Portion size is generous and filling! Value meal was $19 so not too bad. Ambience wise, the restaurant is quite small and very tight, definitely not very covid safe as the tables of other customers are super close to you and you can barely get through the gaps. Food came out quickly.

The Korean Fried Chicken is crispy on the outside and moist inside just how it should be, everything is so flavourful! The Cheesy Corn is impeccably good! It's so sweet and satisfying, the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is buzzing with enjoyment, the kitchen is constantly turning over meals as this is a really popular little spot! A well known, no frills Korean restaurant in one of Melbourne’s laneways in Chinatown. Absolutely delicious and very affordable. It gets really busy so be prepared to wait a little bit but the food is so worth it. The cold kimchi noodles were a stand out dish for us, refreshing and so tasty. Will definitely be back 🥰

I am a translator, I do most of my work done in their cosy and friendly place. I even have my own spot - of course if the place is not busy! Not to say that the friendly and patient chefs correct my Korean writing mistakes.

After having had some wine in our bellies, we wanted some sustenance. We ordered two spicy chicken dishes (in retrospect, should have diversified, but was craving some heat) and they were both good and comforting. The banchan that comes with the food is simple and decent. Service could be friendlier but food comes out so fast, it almost doesn’t matter!
We didn’t partake in soju drinking but there were many groups drinking soju and Korean beer. I’d never seen non koreans downing so many bottles of soju before.

We had Korean delivered to us and the packaging was perfect. The ordered was packaged with a variety of sides. <br/><br/>The Mushroom bibimbap was filled with a generous amount of slices beanshoot, carrot, cucumber, fluffy rice and topped with a perfect sunny side egg. <br/><br/>Soy garlic Korea and fried chicken had the most crisp batter, juicy chicken and flavoursome soy garlic sauce. <br/><br/>The topokki was very filling with thick rice cakes and mild sauce.

Wow we’re we left just speechless after leaving by Korea. This small joint is tucked away in a side street and who would have known they’d deliver such amazing food and service!! We asked the chef to recommend us some favourites and were left nothing but satisfied. The highlight of the meals was the kimchi and rice dish which was served on egg with some amazing sauce. We could eat this again and again. The pork Bulgagi was a hit too, we easily cleaned that up even though the servings were so large. The fried chicken was also good but did not compare to the other two dishes. <br/><br/>PRO: if you’re looking for a large feed, this is the place to go. Servings are immaculate and quaintly and taste just exceeded our expectations. <br/><br/>CON: no cons 🤗

I booked By Korea for a birthday gathering for 9 people as I had seen amazing reviews and that the restaurant had great meals for sharing. The food was exceptional. I would even argue that it’s the best Korean food I have fried in Melbourne. As a group we ordered the cheese fried rice (amazing), the mushroom stir fry, beef and pork bulgogi and the Korean fried chicken done in 5 different ways. We polished every last piece of food off. I will definitely be booking again. The only reason I have rated the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 starts were some hiccups with booking. I had booked the table a month prior and had the booking confirmed by the restaurant. Due to Covid19, I also called the restaurant to confirm the booking a week prior and was told it was all good to go ahead as long as we utilised two tables instead of one. I was fine with this. I was then called by the restaurant 2 days later to cancel my booking completely as they had changed their policy to walk-in only. The restaurant encouraged me to show up with 9 people to see if we could get a walk in, instead. I stressed that the booking was for a birthday and it was unlikely for me to secure another booking elsewhere in the CBD for 9 due to COVID19 restrictions. Upon realising that I had booked the table a month earlier, I was told that they would honour the booking. In the end we had a great time and I would definitely go back again due to the food.

I would recommend these dishes!!<br/><br/>One small gripe would be that the beef chapche had way too many veggies on top. It almost became a feud when we were trying to find the slivers of glass noodles among the greenery. <br/><br/>Service is pretty friendly, and relatively fast. Dishes don't exactly come out all at once. So if you're waiting for it to come out for that perfect photo, you may be waiting for a while! Found By Korea whilst looking for a late night feed. They’re open til 1am most days! We ordered stone bowl bibimbap with pork. The chilli paste comes in a bowl and looks super potent but wasn’t too bad. I found the bowl lacked flavour and had a little too much veg ratio although the servings are huge. Great spot for a cheap late night feed.

The food is a lot. We ordered from the $12 menu and it was worth it. The sweet chilli chicken was well seasoned. The tonkatsu was big and tender (but could have used more sauce). It was packed at lunch time so make sure to either go early or book beforehand.

Definitely recommend By Korea! I’ve been here multiple times after the first time I tried it, for lunch they have $12 deals ($15 during dinner/public holiday) with huge portions and nice, authentic, home made food. Their kimchi fried rice is delicious and although not part of the lunch/dinner deals, definitely worth it. Their variety is amazing and I’ve yet to try many as I keep coming back for the kimchi&pork bulgogi.

The servings areare quite large and I can eat more then a regular person. From the few times I have gone, the value meal is worth it with the large portionof the main thing that you choose, very filling. The tteokbokki is another thing that some Korean places don't do well but By Korea does it well with a nice spice level and the bowl was massive.

Impressed with the Seafood Soy Bean Paste Stew. It was packed with flavour and authentic tasting. The Spicy Crispy Chicken had the right balance of spice and sweetness unlike other restaurants which make them waaayy too sweet. Service was prompt and staff were courteous. The menu on Zomato however, needs to be updated. There is a price increase and the stews have gone up to $17

Nice cosy place where the lunch special was definitely worth the price. Lunch specials are $12 during weekdays and about $15 during weekends. We came during the weekday so only paid $12 but the food portion was quite generous. We ordered the beef bulgogi and spicy crispy chicken lunch sets. The bulgogi was alright, but the chicken tasted the best. If I were to come back, I'd definitely go for one of their fried chicken lunch sets.

Super good value! I got a huge serving of stir fried kimchi and pork with salads rice and an egg for $16.50. Very filling I could barely finish the plate. The pork had a delicious smoky char on it and the super tasty chilli paste on the table added some good heat. There was a lot of variety on the menu so I’ll definitely be back plus there’s BYO :)

One of the best, cheapest eats in the cbd! Their lunch specials are amazing - for about $12 you get a decent portion of your chosen dish, purple rice, salad, kimchi and a some pasta salad. Every time I've been here with friends, we can't finish it all and end up taking it away. Their soy and garlic fried chicken is amazing, and so is their spicy chicken if you like spice (I'd say it's as spicy as dragon hot pot's mild soup). It does get really busy at lunch time so it's better to go earlier or be willing to wait.

I work in the city and By Korea has been one of my favourite places to drop by for lunch. Their well priced ($12) lunch menu allows punters to get a good sized feed without paying overs. It used to be $10 a few years ago - which made it better! but the $2 price rise is hardly a deterrent. <br/><br/>My preferred lunch meal is the Spicy Crispy Chicken. It comes with rice, side salad and Kim Chi. The chicken has a good hit to it and is crispy, exactly as written on the menu. I also like the soy beef bulgogi and spicy pork bulgogi. Service is efficient and fast. I highly recommend taking yourself and your colleagues here for lunch. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Roaming on the streets of Melbourne, entered this restaurant to try Korean food for the first time. To begin with I ordered the KFC-spicy chicken (Korean Fried Chicken) which was the most delicious dish for my experience. It was served with chips and pickled radish. Had also ordered the Stir fry chicken and cheese platter which was smokey hot along with the Pork Ribs served on top of brown rice and salad leaves. Also tried the Milkis which is a soft drink made from corn syrup and sugar with little fizz. Korean Iced Coffee was good too.

Another korean eatery, is it any good?<br/><br/>Ambience: The place is on the smaller side, kind of hidden in the laneways of chinatown. So inside it can get bit crampy and loud when crowded.<br/><br/>Service: The staffs are friendly and ordering in English was pretty smooth. (though the one taking our order added an extra order which we didnt, but they took it away almost directly 🙂) But since it can get crowded especially at night, calling a waiter is a bit hard.<br/><br/>Food: Okay the real deal. We ordered tofu bibimbap and potato pancake. The Bibimbap somehow has more vegs than rice? or at least they are the same amount which I dont really enjoy but the sauce isn't very well made as it is spicier and less sweet and salty than most I've had. Also the hotpot wasn't hot enough which makes the bibimbap watery. Aside from that, nothing's wrong with it. It's our first time trying Potato pancake, it tasted literally like hashbrown but thinner and larger in size. However we believe it's supposed to taste at least a bit more pancaky or "doughy" as the one we had didn't at all, so we were bit disappointed. It tasted good as hashbrown though. Came in on a public holiday for their lunch special thing but they charged us weekend price because apparently a public holiday = weekend to them even though the public holiday falls on a weekday. They did not put a sign on the door or the staff did not tell us that we were going to be charged the damn weekend price for the "weekday set" shit. Food was only okay that day because they were too busy catering for ubereats/deliveroo.

The dishes at By Korea are modified to the Australian market, the favouring and seasoning ain’t as strong compared to what you get served in Korea. If you are after 100% authentic Korean food then you wont get what you expect, but if you are looking for good korean food then this is a must try 😊😊

This place is by far one of my favourite places to try Korean food. The menu is small and because of this it is easy to choose what you want and the quality and taste of the food has been consistent, which means I know exactly what I am going to get. <br/>The food is fresh and the staff are friendly and keen to help. It can be a bit of a mission to find but this place offers something for everybody which is rather comforting.

Came here for lunch with a group of friends and was impressed by how cheap the meals were. During lunch hours, it's only $10 for a 'light' meal (which made each of us all very full) and the food was as good as any many of the other Korean restaurants you would find in Melbourne. Simple and delicious. The service was friendly, and with a not too busy atmosphere, this is a great place to enjoy some delicious food with family and friends without breaking your wallet. I will be coming back again to try their other dishes. Highly recommended.

Each of the dishes that I tried were made well and tasty. The stand out dish was the soy fried chicken. <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: The seafood pancakes had too much egg instead of batter so the pancake itself had a very fried egg texture to me instead of the crispy batter that I love. <br/> <br/>🎖Lizzie rates overall: It is a great place to grab a casual dinner with mates. Prices are very affordable and food is consistent.

Ordered a beef bulgogi set and kimchi calamari pancake via Foodora. Food arrived within 25 minutes and was still piping hot. The beef bulgogi was delicious, beef was juicy and tender and perfectly caramelised with onions. The kimchi pancake was sizzling hot, slightly crispy on the outside and full of kimchi, onions and calamari. Heard this place doesn't use MSG in their cooking which is a plus because the food still tastes amazing if not better than other joints serving up similar fare.

Just had lunch here and it will now be my go to place for a quick lunch. The food is really good and portion size is very filling. Best part is the 'light meal' menu (which is what I had) is only $10! I choose to have the curry chicken katsu, it comes with the chicken, a serving of rice, salad, egg and kimchi! <br/><br/>Would recommend to anyone who's looking for a really filling inexpensive meal.

We went to By Korea a few times, the food in there is not too bad but quality not consistent. I remember we ordered the fried Chicken which can be good, but the fried pork was so dry tasted like old defrost pork. We had mushroom bulgogi before and the first time was quite yummy so we think we should order it again, but this time it turned out not the best, lack of sauce and with undercooked cabbage. For this time we were disappointed. Not sure we will go back again.

By Korea over Tattersal's lane is quite difficult to spot. There wasn't a lot of space inside and the decor is quite sparse but the food is still pretty decent. The japchae is seasoned well. Not a big fan of the texture of their fried chicken though. The stew and the chili hot chicken with cheese is spicy, the chicken especially so! One small piece of chicken was all that I could handle.

This place serves Korean food at a good value. The food is good quality but not outstanding, however will never fail to fill you up or provide a cheap fix for the Korean cuisine. The restaurant is well-decorated, and the staff are attentive and efficient but are not welcoming in the slightest. There is definitely room for improvement here.

Pretty decent Korean food with heaps of vegetarian options. My faves are the Bulgogi mushrooms, vegetarian bimbap and dumplings. There're plenty more dishes that I would like to try. Restaurant was pretty dull and lack of lighting, good thing is that this place doesn't do BBQ like most Korean places do, so you don't have to worry abt being smelly when leaving the premises.

Good food but terrible customer service. We were having quick lunch and the restaurant was very quiet with couple customers and one waitress. We knew that only her on floor so we nicely ordered food or even asked for sharing bowls, she did not response any words impolitely with grumpy face. So rude!! I feel bad for how hard kitchen staffs tried to cook good food!!

I don't usually write review,but I went there recently .i was quiet impressed .food taste can be not spectacle.cuz they don't use MSG.<br/> A lots of Asian restaurant use tons of MSG.<br/>So it's hard to make deep flavor without MSG.but I prefer to go there cuz I know one thing sure no msg.im regular customer .<br/>Last week when I went there I was quiet unwell .floor manager look after me so well and brought nice warm water before I asked.<br/>So I want to say big thank you to manager.sorry I forgot the name.<br/>Thank you for memorable service !!:)

My friends and I really enjoyed the dinner. The restaurant was very quiet on a Saturday night but the waitress remained attentive and friendly. All the food were delicious and I wished I could have more rice wine and pancakes! Price was very reasonable.

Attention all people with allergies/food intolerances (especially those who are low FODMAP): By Korea is not the place for you. <br/><br/>I explicitly stated that I could not have onion or garlic in my food because I am allergic to them, and the staff assured me that there would be NO onion or garlic in whatever I ordered, as opposed to indicating which dishes I would be able to have and which dishes had those ingredients in them. I ordered the original K.F.C., and although the meal was brought out rather quickly, after a couple bites I became suspicious of the contents of the sauce that was served with it. I asked one of the staff what was in the sauce, and whether it had onion or garlic in it, but he said rather irritably that it was "just mayonnaise", and that there was absolutely no onion or garlic in it.<br/><br/>It is clear that they don't know what is in their sauces/condiments. There was definitely garlic in that mayonnaise, as I reacted to it (something that could have been completely avoidable had the staff known what was actually in it, and the reason why I will not be returning). This complete lack of care or knowledge of their own food content could be dangerous for customers who have anaphylactic reactions to certain foods. <br/><br/>Please don't go here unless you don't have any allergies. It's just not safe, unless the staff improve their knowledge of their food (something that doesn't seem likely given how annoyed the guy seemed when I double checked about the content of the food).

I'm usually a big fan of the cold noodles at the byKorea store on Latrobe street so it was a surprise to see this store off an alleyway in Chinatown. This time, I decided to order something different and had the Seafood Soft Tofu Stew, which was based on my colleague's recommendation. <br/><br/>This stew was served with a bowl of rice and it was a good serving size for lunch. The stew wasn't spicy for me and the tofu was amazing - it was soft, smooth and silky. There were a decent amount of seafood in the stew too. What I liked about it was the fact that there was no MSG in the soup and I didn't suffer any after-soup effects like I occasionally do when I have stews at a korean restaurant. <br/><br/>This place is a great lunch option and I would stop by again if I'm near the area.

I wouldn't believe that people serve this food in restaurant. Korean Fried Chicken is the best fried chicken so far but you guys destroy it badly. The service is lack of attendant. I appreciated that you advertised your food has no MSG that the reason why I gave 1.0 otherwise I'm looking for minus point. This restaurant ruined my dinner dramatically. I'm so sad that having this restaurant replace the traditionally Chinese store.

Located in a quiet street off the busy Chinatown. Been here twice and introduced it to my friends who loved it as well. Nice little gem and good Korea food. I love the kimchi fried rice with mozzarella cheese. Yummy!!

Even though there are not as many people as some popular restaurants with long long busy queue, it never affect the memorable experience to have food here. The waitress recommended me to try ssambob, so I ordered beef ribs meal with ssambob. Fresh lettuces with various range of sauce n proper well-cooked pork ribs topping on crunchy purple rice. Really amazing Korean food n attentive service.

Located on a lane leading to the heart of China Town, this place is not in particular eye catching. Foods they serve are good though, better than what we expect from the first impression of this small restaurant.<br/><br/>Only a few staff and a few taken tables at around 7pm on a weekdays, but dishes were served promptly after order.<br/><br/>I recommend their fried chicken. Sweet chili Korean Fried Chicken is indeed a common dish served at Korean restaurant. We ordered this as a first start and safe try, but the same dish here is delicious. I appreciated that they serve the dish with marinated turnip. The turnip was a bit sour and it cleanses the palate before moving on trying other food. They are such a perfect match. I find it tasted better than some Korean restaurants which specialises in making fried chicken.<br/><br/>The only thing I didn't like is the kimchi on the sidedishes. It's too sour for me. Well it is just my personal preference though; I like spicy kimchi with a hint of sweetness in it. Will come back for a second try next time.

Went with a friend using a voucher she bought. For two of us we shared a gigantic plate of Korean fried chicken (with 4 different flavours), a plate of salad, one bowl of brown and black rice each and a drink each. Chicken was very tasty and the serve was really generous - could have shared the whole plate with two other people!

$10 for lunch and you get a complete set menu with rice kimchi and salad with an unexpectedly a lot of meat. Normally, korean restaurant charges people a lot but this restaurant is quite cheaper compared to the other korean restaurants.

This place is in the small alley in China Town, slightly hard to find. This restaurant seems to run by Korean and all staff seem to be Korean too. The food is tasty and service is good too. I would recommend giving it a try if you are after Korean food.
