Consistently good service and food. Prices are competitive. Chips always crispy and golden.

My score 3.75 (average of 2 visits). We got a late takeaway lunch from here on Thu 6th June. Service was good – nice smiles from the 2 women serving, place is clean.
Min chips – just right for 2, golden, fairly well cut/shaped. Asked for well done & they were good!
1 potato cake – not bad (not too thin inside) and nicely golden.
1 battered flake – golden colour, tasted pretty good (thumbs up).
6 prawn cones for $5 – looked good, nice when we sampled one straight away – rest were a bit cooler and less moreish after travel time back to home. Interesting shape and texture – wrapper softer than a spring roll. Either way a tiny bit prawny/fishy – glad we tried them, but wouldn’t have again.
Again a surprising lack of oiliness in the food! Only downside, after asking if we wanted lemon they failed to include it.
First visit 8 months ago. 1 Fried battered snapper (J), 1 Grilled snapper (me), Medium chips, 1 potato cake, 2 FREE lemon wedges. Both pieces of fish were cooked nicely and decent serves. Medium chips were too much for us and our dog (we were warned). Potato cake was also quite golden and pretty good. None of the food was greasy or oily.
After trying a number of places, this is now our clear second favourite Fish and Chip shop (behind Ebi)…
Have been a few times now and it's always very consistent and delicious. The food is well priced and every staff member is so friendly and welcoming. The burgers are yum and they chips are super crunchy. The potato cakes are thin and crispy, if you prefer the chunky kind maybe go chips instead.
Overall really enjoy the fish and chips here and love supporting a local business/family. Will be back.
The staff here is very friendly, Eddy always takes my order and provides outstanding customer service.
The potato cakes and chips are my favourite as the seasoning they use is unique to other fish and chip stores. There is also a large range of fish options available which is great.
I would recommend this for a great option for lunch and dinner if you love fish and chips.
Came here to takeaway food since Southbank doesn’t have cheap fish and chipper. I ordered flake, barramundi, 2 battered mussels and medium chips along with crumbed prawn and 2 soft drinks for 26 bucks. Big portion and nice taste. 12 mins drive was worth it and delivery time was good considering it being fresh. I did not try potato cake based on previous reviews. I like this place and will go again for fish and chips craving
Im not a fish and chip lover so im probably a harsh critic.. i was very impressed with Vernon’s Fish & Chippery.

Best fish and chips in the area. Fresh food not super oily. Well priced. Fast and friendly service. They also give out a free bottle of soft drink when you spend over a specific amount.
This is the best fish and chips I've had in recent memory. Everything is fresh, crispy and very tasty. I cannot fault 1 thing I've had here in the last few years, the potato cakes would be my favourite.. The burgers a big and juicy and everything you would want in a traditional fish and chip shop burger. Try the cheese and bacon potato cake....it's the business!
So good, the freshest food ever ... I am always there getting g my grilled fish and chips. Would recommend for to come here. People are so friendly too

I had the fish souvlaki (battered) with chips and potato cakes.
Fish souvlaki was delicious, perfect amount of sauce and crispy battered fish even after a short drive to the beach.
Chips golden, seasoned well and potato cakes thin and crisp.
Super friendly service, minimal wait time even during busy hours, all smiles.
Lovely vibe, will be coming back!
If you've never tried the fish souvlaki you're really missing out.
Everything is top quality, the staff are friendly and efficient. Very lucky to have it as my local.

This place has their frying game PERFECT! Chips, potato cakes, battered fish, everything cooked perfectly- nice and crisp and not greasy. Food quality is high, and the prices are really reasonable.
Can’t wait to try a burger with the lot!

Having tried Fish and Chips from over 20 establishments in Melbourne, I can easily say that Vernon's Fish & Chippery is the best of them all by a very long margin.
Fish is deliciously crispy and chips are seasoned to perfection!
Why can't all other fish and chip shop's get the basics so right like Vernon Street?
