Review Fried Rice Kingdom Chinese Restaurant - Melbourne

Freddie Jazmin
I loved the Peking duck with veggie and paper rolls, the duck is crispy and juicy. I also enjoy the crispy king prawn mustard and ox fried rice. I will definitely come back here for another serve of Peking duck. The price is standard and there is a variety of dish to select.

Yummy Peking duck and crispy fried noodle. Interior is beautiful and food is well-priced. Recommended!

Excellent Peking Duck and modern decor. Great location at the southern end of Lygon St. Very friendly staff

Bought a Groupon for Peking Duck made the booking and when we got there the place has now closed down. There were other people in the same situation - very disappointing and angry

Delicious vegetarian/tofu rice paper rolls & very friendly service. Will definitely come back for dine-in and try more dishes when we’re able to.

The service was quick and friendly but I was disappointed in the Peking duck. The presentation was ordinary and it was cold. The duck was a bit tough and chewy with bones in it.

The Peking Duck is not as good as when it was trading as Fried Rice Kingdom - skin was not crispy and portion size was smaller. It's a pity as this could be a good addition to the Lygon St scene.

I made a reservation via Groupon for 6:30pm today (16th Jan).
We arrived at the restaurant at 122 Lygon St Carlton.
But the restaurant was closed.
The signage is not 'Fried Rice Kingdom', but some Vietnamese Chinese signage.
I also googled the restaurant and tried to call the number on website which was a mobile number 0447 176 888, just in case I went to the wrong address.
But the number 0447 176 888 was disconnected.
I was surprised to see a customer review on Groupon review dated on 6th Jan, as the restaurant clearly is not operating??
I have taken photos of the restaurant from outside.
Also it is a very disappointing experience for 3 of us.
It was also very embarrassing as I have to tell my friends the restaurant I booked was closed???
Ridiculous!

A disappointing addition to Melbourne Chinese Cuisine scene. The Peking Duck was not crispy and thinly sliced. Their mains were lacking in authenticity and their basics - fried rice, stir fried noodles were outright terrible. Don’t bother.

They got a new menu with new dishes also.
What I ordered is crispy chicken rice
That is so amazing and worth trying
Very nice and definitely come back!!!

And after frequenting here for the past year, I’ve grown accustomed to the taste of the grilled chicken pho. The glistening sweet broth, coupled with the unlimited chili paste is now my standard to judge against other pho shops.

Actually, my sister and her husband had promised to pick me up at my campus and had lunch together but due to “jet-lag” it had to be cancelled. So, I had lunch with my friend, L, at Criniti’s (read my previous post) instead. Thank God, they decided to wake up just in time when I finished my classes.

I’d visited Saigon Pho twice ,within the same week, it was that good. Saigon Pho has probably the nicest decor and friendliest service I’ve encountered in a pho restaurant. This makes Saigon Pho have a slightly better vibe with it’s timber floors and chandeliers, compared than the average plastic chair/table combinations and abrupt service I’m accustomed to when itching my pho itch. I ordered the Beef Pho and a cĂ phĂȘ sữa. I can never pass up a Vietnamese coffee with it’s thick, bitter, sludgy coffee and sweet curls of condensed milk. Saigon Pho does a great coffee and is located a stones-throw from Melbourne University. I’m very tempted to make a habit of getting sweet coffee fix between every lecture. My beef pho came out pretty quickly, accompanied by all the usual condiments, bean sprouts, thai basil and chilli. The broth sans adding any of these wonderful condiments was very beefy and fragrant. The beef was perfectly rare and plentiful. On my second visit I dragged J along to get

It was really refreshing to have good service. I can’t remember the last time I did when I had Pho. The restaurant was reasonably busy for a Wednesday night and as I jealously eyed the three-coloured drink of the girl sitting across from us, I realised that this wasn’t just an ‘average’ Vietnamese restaurant, but that it was GOOD. They’re kicking goals with everything and leaving my pretty pleased to have this place within a 5 minute drive of my house. I will most certainly be back when the next Pho craving hits!

Conveniently located near uni, this is a fairly good place to get pho. They even have a vegetarian one! Prices are fairly good and portions are decent. They cover pretty much the classics: pho, vermicelli dry noodles, a few beef stew noodles, spring rolls, egg rolls and a TON of drinks. The jackfruit shake was fairly good
reminded me of my childhood! Good place for lunch since service is quick and portions won’t make you get a food coma. Definitely going back here!

Taste of Home. After living in Saigon for 5 years as an expat, it's great to find a Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne with the tastes of HCMC.
My favorite, Rice Vermicelli salad with grilled pork and spring rolls (Bun Thit Nuong Cha Goi) was as good as home.
The Beef Pho (Pho Tai) is also very nice and not laced with MSG as is the way of some other local Vietnamese restaurants.
I always aim to try new dishes to see if they are as good but seem never to be able to pass these to gems.
CáșŁm ÆĄn báșĄn cho những ká»· niệm guys

AMAZING!!!. I love so many things on this menu. Always great service. I fantasise about eating here.

Best Chicken Pho in Melbourne. Pho is delicious, light, but so moorish. If you live close, make it your local. The staff are great to chat with, and really look after you.

Food was delicious but service was lacking. Staffs were often absent and were not very friendly. Also, we ordered tai pho, sliced beef pho, and pork with broken rice; the waitress mistakenly gave us two sliced beef phos instead of the rice. We hadn't touched the pho when she came by and told us that we were not supposed to get the pho. Without even apologizing nor asking, she forced us to pay the pho we hadn't even ordered! Would think twice to come back here next time...

Great Pho and broken rice, really enjoy the food every time I eat here. Only wish they would serve quail!

If you love Pho, go Richmond. Tried this place twice. The first time, I thought the portion was small, not much beef, because if you pay the same price, you can get way better pho in city & richmond. Not to mention the soup is not flavoured. However, after reading so many positive reviews, thought should give it a 2nd chance, so I went there for a second try, didn't understand why so many good reviews, very average, probably because there is no other Pho cafe in Carlton.

Simple restaurant with great Vietnamese food. Saigon Pho has a simple menu with real Vietnamese dishes (no prawn crackers or dim sims). The pho is yum, good quality ingredients and authentic. Prices are reasonable, and the service is always good too.

Better than Vic St. I lived in Abbotsford for a few years and I've gotta say, this pho is better than any I tasted on Victoria Street. Also, super cheap - $8.50 for chicken pho.

I strongly recommend this place for a cheap and cheerful lunch or dinner. Service is as good as the food.

Highly recommended. I love the pho with the lot! Been back thrice and still thinks it's awesome and authentic. Good job guys! :D

The broth here has that umami quality, savoury with a slightly sweet aftertaste. My favourite toppings are Vietnamese mint, bean shoots, a few slices of fresh chilli and the juice of a lemon wedge, so it comes as no surprise that there are a myriad of flavours in each mouthful.

I think Saigon Pho is the only Vietnamese restaurant in the Lygon/Carlton area (please correct me if I'm wrong). I was craving for some pho and spring rolls and was too lazy to head down to the city to get some, so I decided to give Saigon Pho a try.. since they're a relatively new addition to Lygon. Avocado smoothie, $3.90; made with avocado and condensed milk. This was so good and I coudn't get enough of it. They also have the custard apple smoothie, will definitely try that out the next time. Cafe 'fin' Sua Da/Nong, $3.90; Saigon Pho's special filtered white coffee with condensed milk. Rose had this drink and said it was good. All you have to do is wait for the water to filter down until there's no more water left. Pork Spring Rolls, $7 for 6. I liked the spring rolls cause they had some vegetable and glass noodles in it as well. and also because they weren't oily! Combination grilled pork, shredded pork, meat loaf and fried egg on broken rice, $10.50; I

Eating with P has taught me to appreciate many aspects of food that I did not used to think about. P eats quickly and preferably in blissful silence, whereas I have a tendency to savor every bite and maintain appropriate levels of chit-chat between each bite. For him, eating is about energy - he eats because he needs to and consumes food in an efficient and methodical manner. On the other hand, I had grown accustomed to treating each occasion of eating as occasions. I eat out of obligation, appropriateness or even curiosity. In fact, I can hardly remember the last time I ate out of hunger. P is a fussy eater. He also prefers simple foods that are comforting, familiar and uncomplicated. In many ways, he is much more discerning about his food than I am. For me, I'll eat most things that land on my plate. If it's good, I'll eat it and then rave about it, if it's not that great, I'll probably still eat it and then rant about it. After almost a year of eating with him, I've compiled some

The restaurant is a simple, no-fuss eatery as are most Vietnamese restaurants. However, little touches such as a chandelier and timber floors make the restaurant stand out from other Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne. It was a warm evening when I rocked up so I was grateful when a waitress immediately passed some ice-cold water to me as I studied the menu. Although phố is obviously the restaurant’s specialty, other Vietnamese favourites such as BĂșn bĂČ Huáșż make the list.
