Review Coffee Hq - Melbourne

Natasha M
Coffee was good. The male Barista this morning was extra attentive and so quick to pump out coffees on free coffee day today.

Would give a zero if possible.So diappointing and horrible expeience.I asked the staff if their crosissant is meat free as I am a vegetarion and double checked with them .She said yes and double checked with the owner as well . said it was a plain cheese croissant ,i bought it .And when I had it later I came to know in the strat sth was wrong.It had ham in it and a lot as well.i had to spit out everything in front of my friends and couldnt let go of nausea for sometome.So please when you buy from here,buy at youe own risk

Wait time is so long you will miss your train. I didn't even get my coffee (after I paid) because of this. Over ten minutes for a long black.

Pretty good coffee really. Was pleasantly surprised. Nice range of coffee as well as other refreshments. Some staff don’t understand English well but they do try and I’ve always found them nice. also a good range of food items such as muffins, focaccia and other ‘on the go’ food. Do like the little black coffee drawings on the stark white tiles Prices are reasonable. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible.

Conveniently located inside the Flinders Train Station, Coffee HQ is a quick stop for having coffee and some munchies. While coffee is not up to the mark and the snacks are overpriced, the service here was pretty good. I have tried most of the food here since I got those on the employee discount. I love the Hot Chocolate and wish the milk they have used was full cream rather than watery. It may get very crowded during peak hours and Saturday late hours.

What an amazing coffee I just had Taste so different from other coffee shops Had to wait but worth it

Service could be a little friendlier and more welcoming, maybe need more social staff taking the orders, put some effort into it. Coffee-maker was the same, could be friendlier. The coffee is good, but not the best beans

Despite the cheap offers ordering via skipping the queue apps, you actually wait much longer than the queue before they place and make your order! This doesn’t suit my 10 minute wait between trains and on one occasion had to ask for a cold egg and bacon roll which they hadn’t started to cook and to run to the train. The coffee is not up to an acceptable taste and I highly recommend going to Baguette instead of here! Yet, the service is quite friendly and that’s often lacking so I couldn’t let myself give them a 1 star because of that.

2.5
A quick revisit to coffee HQ grabbing a coffee on the way to the races. Must say that in the weekend there were less queues and things moved quickly. Coffee was ok flavour wise but 3/4 of us had milk that was so under heated was like you had a coffee and had forgotten to drink it for about ten minutes. Disappointing in this instance and polar opposite to what I expect from any coffee venue.. the 1/4 who had a hot coffee had coffee made with almond milk.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Previous Review
3
Ouch tough critics here... while my coffee this morning was not perfect it was actually pretty reasonable. I really enjoyed the cereal, yogurt cup which wasn’t over the top sweet like you get at some places. Staff seemed friendly (especially when you consider the way I was recently treated at their closest competition) and for that reason alone I’d throw my patronage behind coffee HQ. Queues were big but moved fairly quickly.
coffee hq is ideal if you are rushing to change to another train and only have 5 minutes at flinders street station. It’s conveniently located within the station and service is honestly quite fast, despite the seemingly Long queue. My skinny flat white was honestly average but was enough to wake me up.
Was ordering white hot chocolate and they dont have lactose free milk. I think all coffee shops should have lactose free milk by now. Seriously, they are cheaper than almond milk. Anyway, so i had it with almond milk and it was the worst hot drink i ever had. Could not taste the while chocolate whatsoever, it just tasted like i drank almond milk only. And it wasn’t sweet at all. Staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. Their muffin choices isn’t bad. I tried their banana caramel muffin which was moist but they just serve it cold. Would be nice if they offer to warm it up for 15 seconds in microwave? And muffin didn’t taste bad although couldn’t taste much banana nor caramel in it. Would not buy from there again.
Time for a quick mocha before a movie to prevent myself from dozing off. They managed to give the mocha in like 15 seconds which surprised me for a minute and then realised why. The coffee wasnt hot and it lacked the taste of mocha. A bad choice, grab one from seven eleven instead!
Most of the staff working here is fml. The coffee here was milky and watered down . Toasted sandwich was still cold after being pressed . Only good thing is it is very conveniently outside when you exit the station
I don’t normally do reviews but it was bad enough to write about. The lady behind the counter didn’t smile or even say hi. She didn’t say thanks and I wasn’t offered a receipt. Just moved onto the next customer. I didn’t even realized the transaction was finished. In the end, she got my order wrong. You’re in customer service! If I wanted someone with so little personality, I would’ve gone to McDonalds. Thanks to the barista for taking time to fix my order.
The coffee was good but the bacon and egg muffin was disgusting. The muffin was tasted like raw gluten free bread. Not worth it at all.......
Descartesmuse
Good coffee that is fast with no nonsense service. in the middle of flinders street station, this place is a good go to place for coffee when you're in transit.
The Dear Luncher
When your train diverts to Flinders Street opportunities present themselves that otherwise would not have. Coffee HQ ended up being the lucky establishment forced to deal with The Dear Luncher's hangover one morning. The breakfast wrap is pretty damn average it has to be said. Not to mention how it was just thrown carelessly into a bag. The scowls and general demeanor of the staff left a lot to be desired. The Dear Luncher hopes the train never diverts to Flinders Street ever again.
Absolutely disgusting - paid $12.40 for a coffee and a ham and cheese croissant for the croissant to have MAGGOTS in it!!!! Absolutely disgusting, threw the coffee out as well after that experience. Was headed to an exam as well - felt revolting and couldn't concentrate
Most horrible coffee. I used to get coffee here quite often when I had to travel through flinders. About a year go it was tolerable coffee for the location. But the last two times were just so bad that I had to throw it away. I ordered a soy cap, got a regular milk one. When I pointed that out, I did not get a new coffee. Instead the barista just swapped some lids and gave me the same coffee back..yeaaah really?! Like i can't taste the difference? The milk was so burned i could barely drink it without wanting to throw up. And well now I am just throwing out the next coffee from there. I can't even describe what it tastes like. Someone wrote about the impolite service: I agree.
Anyway first world problems: but if you don't have to, don't get your coffee here!
Not worth a star!!!! Absolutely shocking service, have never been so insulted or degraded getting a coffee. No morning coffee is better than a coffee there, not worth the rudeness, and passive aggressive nature of the staff and followed by a staff member shouting at this morning. No smiles, no politeness, and not treated respectfully at all and have no regard for customers and future business. Bad start to a morning and there are plenty of other options at Flinders Street and i recommend take them!!!!! This is not the first bad experience there but the one that was pivotal in my decision to never go there again !!!!!!
Absolutely terrible. Chicken roll was overpriced, disgusting and badly microwaved. Would give it 0 stars but the latte was okay (tentatively okay)
I always get my coffee here and love that they are open late. Best coffee at Flinders by far! They are friendly and fast and remember my order.
Diep Dan
I got a chai latte and it is quite nice, the price suit the location. However, they take quite long to make it. I would come back if i wasnt in a hurry
Sylvia's POV
When I have time before my train usually I would grab a Chai latte from Coffee HQ.
Service is always prompt and friendly.
There was a time when they ran out of Chai and compensated with Hot chocolate. Lucky I like hot chocolate, too.
With my newfound heightened coffee senses I ordered my usual small latte with one sugar ($3.90) at the Coffee HQ this morning. The coffee was a tad watery, not as full bodied as my ones of late. Flavour was quite weak. I have to commend them on how quickly they pushed out the coffees though, with their prime location at the station they have to be quick for us morning zombies!
Just paid $5.80 for a 'extra strong tall flat white' instead I got a large cup of lukewarm milk. Being a poor student I drank it but I really wish I hadn't l now just feel bloated,sick and more irritable than before my morning 'cup of coffee' .Wish I had just put it in the bin where it belongs
I have been coming to this place for years, best coffee in Melbourne for me, very friendly nice staff. they are always organized and even on a busy day you are only waiting a short time before your coffee is ready.
Going To Find
$9.80 for a stale panini they popped in the microwave rather than toaster because it was busy. Nope nope nope... Didn't try their coffee but that's just not okay
Lulu T. Legrand
I agree with Booko Boomeranger, a typical train station coffee hub. If you don't expect much, it will do, as you can find a good selection of sweet and savoury stuff and charming staff. I had an iced latte today and it was dreadful. The bench is too high!
They have a lot of staff who are working really hard!!
Majority of them never give up and try to treat you beautifully and with a shining smile!!
Price..mmm..but is not their fault..
GREAT!!
Keep working hard!!
Got a cappuccino early in the morning yesterday and there was no one else there, super quiet! But when my coffee arrived it just tasted like milk, was the weakest coffee I'd ever had! Just pay passed it without thinking about it and coffee should've costed $3.50 and then today looked into my account and turns out I was charged $7.50. Would definitely not go back!
Bon Appetit
Watery, milky small soy coffee, which cost a relatively excessive $4.30. Initially I was just disgruntled about the lack of "Melbourne" smiley service, then given the wrong (cheaper) price, then given poor coffee. I wish I had saved my money for somewhere else.
Consistently bad. I don't know why I keep giving them another chance!
Bad coffee, over filled with foam (flat white) ,never hot (ask for extra hot when ordering to make up for this ...so today I see they put the steamer into the cup after pouring the milk!) this place is a joke and always in a rush to stop and correct and then give them another chance! Well not any more! Get it together HQ u are letting ur brand down!
Short wait.
Had a smoked salmon bagel, was terrible. So much lettuce. Dry as. Salmon not salty.
Hot chocolate kind of warm, tastes not too bad though. Apple danish was good but not for the price. Pretty pricey here.
Don't think I'll come here again....
Good Service, Good Coffee but.... I'll be honest. I'm not a HUGE coffee drinker. Probably because mostly, I have had a lot of rubbish coffees. However, I decided to try this place due to being impatient instead of going where I was originally going to go.
I have to say the service was friendly and the coffee is so delicious! The only one bad thing I will say, the coffee wasn't hot. I'd call it slighter warmer than lukewarm. Thankfully, the coffee was delicious so that didn't bother me too much!
Terrible customer service. My order was really simple, just a coffee and pastry, but the person behind the counter was so rude. Been once, won't go back. Absolute rubbish.
Bad service and dodgy coffee. I always know Coffee Hq at Flinders Street Station is a bit dodgy. Their coffees are inconsistent, sometime is reasonably good, sometime is awfully disgusting, but i put up with them for nearly 6 months just because of their coffee cups. However, after today service, I will say goodbye to them forever.
Story was, i ordered a regular FW (costs $4.10) and it was ready after 3 secs. It was cold, obviously, they used the old milk. Then I said it wasn't hot. So instead making a new one, they poured half of coffee off and heated up new milk. So my coffee became a weak FW. One sip -> in the bin. I should have spent that amount at a better service cafe and on the much better coffee.
Mediocre coffee, bad service.. The two coffee shops closest to my office have closed, so Coffee HQ at Flinders station has been a last resort. Once or twice, the coffee has been ok. The last time, I paid extra for caramel and got none. Next time I went back, I asked for it again and said could they make sure they put it in, because I paid extra last time and got none. The girl said, "Well you should have come back and got it added." No, I shouldn't have to, and especially not after swiping out of the station - you going to pay my Myki to go back and ask you to do what you should have done the first time? Even better, when they gave me that coffee, they put so much caramel in it that it was revolting and I threw it out. Waste of time and money and seriously poor customer service. Guys, if you are in a customer service job and you don't want to serve customers, or you can't provide good service, get a different job. Bad job on all accounts and never going back.
I just had a cup of cappucino on Thurs 2 July 2014 at 10.05pm. It's like the WORST cappucino ever, I am sorry to say but that's what I felt. It's even $1 coffee at 7.11 tastes much better. It was watery with a little hint of milk which makes me sick. and it's $3,6! not worth it at All
Qaguru.ktm
High Price low quality. Just bought a prepackaged egg and lettuce sandwich for lunch on the run - NEVER do this any one - bread is stale and egg had gone hard golden yellow for the price tag of $8.50 WHAT a RIP OFF
Shoot
Worst service ever! Just bought a crossaint and it's cold n hard. They didn't even bother to heat it for the customer
WOW!. I go to Coffee HQ every morning. I worked for a coffee shop sometime ago and am very fussy. Every coffee I have had from Coffee HQ has been fantastic. They're very friendly and I find them to be very fast.
Could not recommend them more highly.
I ordered a coffee and Egg and Bacon Muffin. Waited a few minutes for my coffee, waited five more minutes before being asked what I ordered! They didn't put my order through and sold my muffin to someone else. I walked away with a bad coffee and their bad service.
Bukko Boomeranger
Tastes like train station coffee. OK, so now I know that bad coffee DOES exist in Australia. This country is notable for the remarkable consistency of its great flat whites, but Coffee HQ's version fell flat when I had to grab something in hurry on a transit trip. Thin flavour, tasting more of paper cup than crema. There are so many better coffee options around Flinders station. Surely you can spare five minutes to walk to one. Another train will be along.
