Review C 'n' F - Melbourne

Jon Appino
Great little gem that gets overseen. Great patio with heater to make the cool evening better - great sized (not big, not small) portions, and great service. Very highly recommended. I had the spinach and pumpkin salad. Best salad I've had in a long time....

It's been a while since I have received such poor, unprofessional service as well as less than average food. Even more disappointing considering we started with French champagne and high expectations. Breakfast may be better but not so for our dinner experience. It was a quiet night with only 2 other people in the restaurant. I wonder why. The prices are that of a high quality restaurant, the service and food should reflect that. Definitely won't be going back.

Had breakfast here during our stay in Melbourne. Friendly service. A good selection of breakfast / brunch food and reasonably priced. We had eggs benedict and the savory breakfast beans. All the breads were light and delicious. Good coffee. Can recommend breakfast!

Felt completely ripped off!! Although the breakfast was good, we were disappointed by the fact that our entertainment book coupon wasn't honored when it should have been. They refused to use the coupon and even lied by saying that it states that it isn't valid for breakfast when no such stipulations are made on the voucher itself. We definitely won't be going there again as we didn't appreciate being lied to. If other places like Chapelli's are willing to honour the same deal and then why can't CNF, especially when they have agreed to feature themselves in the entertainment book.

The "G.F." rich stack is delicious for brunch: tasty salmon on a bed of fresh rocket/arugula and avocado, over a potato mash base. Together with the hollandaise sauce, this dish is so much better than an eggs Benedict. It's so good we came back to order two later in the week.

Pleasantly surprised by this quaint little restaurant. Pasta was amazingly good and at a reasonable price. Service was also fantastic and the place was pretty quiet.

have been to deliver products that after 3 months they have not paid for and keep giving excuses for non payment, have now issued final demand notice for payment then will seel legal avenues for payment, very untrustworthy business

Horrible and slow service. Worst cafe in melbourne

I'm with everyone else. This is a really nice place, perfect just for chilling out for a while. I sometimes stop by for breakfast. Especially for a quick coffee and croissant. the best part is the staff who are so nice and helpful.

We stopped in for some coffee and cake, nice coffee, 7/10 could be stronger. Prefect temperature. Great service, cakes where nice fresh and moist too.

Service was fast and friendly. Food was excellent. Great spot for a quick lunch.
Dam Burger
Fairly basic food menu for dinner. We had the lamb and it was actually pretty good and for the price is great value. Wine list is ok too I would go back.

Came by for dinner using the entertainment digital voucher and was satisfied with the food. Had the seafood linguine and slow cooked lamb , both were good size portions and price .

Have been a few times with my girlfriend and have never been disappointed. Staff are relaxed and friendly, atmosphere is calming, food and drinks are tasty and decently proportioned, prices are reasonable. This place is quickly becoming a favourite of ours for a sneaky late breakfast or large, lazy lunch. Give it a crack.

Great and innovative breakfast menu. Try the Cnf stack which Michael recommends. Think smoked salmon stack but with bacon. Perfect poached egg and holindaise sauce on a bed of potato and avocado. Coffee pretty good too. Great food and great value.

We dropped in here before a movie at Como and were really surprised. The Manager Michael was excellent - he kept the kitchen open for us despite the fact it was suppose to be closing and he was generally a lovely guy to talk to and made us feel as if we were the only customer there (which we were not). We got the Chicken Risotto and a Spaghetti Bolognaise. The Risotto was to die for, the sauce was just sublime. I've never had a Spaghetti Bolognaise before with so much meat - it was great - generally restaurants fill the plate with pasta and top with meat - the meat in this dish was the main component and it had a secret herb in it as I couldn't figure it out - it was a like a bolognaise I had never had and I love it! The meals were hot, fast (rush so we could get to our movie in time) and plentiful. The cookies afterwards on the counter were great during the movie as well. Defiantly be going back there to try their all day breakfast menu - I want the pancakes

Brilliant big breakfast! Cooked to perfection - very very decent size for the price! The menu looks amazing and they do all day breakfast as well. Will def return to try out other dishes!

What a great little gem. Great food, reasonably priced with friendly helpful staff. We are regulars here, great spot to eat before or after a movie. Food consistently good with generous portions served by smiling staff. We will continue to be regulars.

The staff at this gorgeous, quaint little Cafe, are exceptional. I am definitely one who responds well to great customer service. There is nothing worse than a place that has great food but awful service. I can honestly say that this place has great food and even better service! My partner and I were over the moon with the quality and presentation of the food. The bill was so much less than expected which is always a plus! I recommend the buyer and the Caesar Salad. Portions were hearty and the taste was to die for :-)

We have been here a few times. The first time we grabbed some dessert with a friend after the night out. It was amazing, thus we returned.

The atmosphere is nice, so too are the staff. But the food and dessert had somehow gone downwards. Thinking maybe it was just a bad night or a once off. We tried again but with the same result.

I definitely recommend Cnf! New owners are passionate and very welcoming. I had the spring rolls as an entrée and fish and chips as main. Best battered fish I've eaten in a very long time; food is awesome! Excited to see what is to come!! Great customer service and My new restaurant to eat out at thanks to the change of ownership!

The food and service were average . The burger was without flavour the pancakes were alright. It was also expensive , I mean for a burger and some pancakes .

The service was pretty poor. The waiter gave us a glass of water each, as we sat down and ran off before we could order our coffees and ignored us.
if you are looking for attentive service, this definitely isn't the place. Also the side of bacon they served us wasn't even warm. I probably wouldn't come back here.

Went for a coffee and proceeded to spill it over chapel street. Super kind staff made me another great one! Service a little slow but great coffee and a delicious roast veg panini!

Overpriced however..... I used an entertainment book voucher so price wise it wasn't too much of an issue. I loved the service and the food. However I wouldn't come here without the voucher, its too overpriced.

Has CNF recently changed owners or something? Something has gone seriously wrong. My partner and I used to love coming here. The food was divine, great value for money and the staff super friendly. However we ate here more recently after not visiting for a couple of months and found a totally different cafe. The food had gone seriously downhill, the venue much dirtier than it used to be and the staff met the bare minimum of customer service standards. What's more, we were at CNF that day for a late lunch meeting, having recommended it after having such great experiences in the past - but it was nothing like we remembered. Almost immediately after finishing our meals, the woman on duty interrupted us and informed us we'd have to leave 'because it's 3 o'clock'. Excuse me??? You serve dinner for goodness' sake! Really unimpressed and embarrassed to have suggested CNF in the first place. Will not be back.

Missy K, Big W and the Red and Blue Macarons were browsing Chapel Street with empty stomachs but mouths brimming with conversation. Not long before we came across a busy glass and mahogany cafe. The coffees were served and soon after, the plates of brunch. Missy K and Red had a plate of the Smoked Salmon and Potato Hash Stack. A well seasoned potato and herb hash with slices of smoked salmon, topped with a happy poached egg, covered with hollandaise sauce. Big W ordered the Big Breakfast of two poached eggs, sausage, potato hash and bacon, served rye toast. For me, the Vegetarian Breakfast of roasted tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, spinach, potato hash, two poached eggs and rye toast. Ordering with a stomach smaller than the eyes, it was delicious nonetheless. The tomatoes were soft and bursting with juice, the mushrooms earthy and tender, the eggs were full and yolky, the potato hash well seasoned and texture

An old chick on the block. This unpretentious little cafe has been here for ever, and manages to provide for a regular stream of customers. Luncheon was calamari and salad. Perfect size for lunch of protein and leaves, and at a fair price. It is worth a visit.

CNF experience.. I walked in to have a meal, but changed my mind and instead I asked for a fruit salad and yogurt on the side to take away. The waiter didn't have a clue. I also asked for a ice coffee and one took my order and vanished out the back to bring the ice cream and then the other waiter took over my order. Didn't ask if I wanted ice in it she put it anyway and a tiny scoop of ice cream with a spoon. I waited for a while to get two things. My little container had a couple of pieces of pineapple, half an apple four pieces of orange and two strawberries and tossed with yogurt. Not organised and over priced won't be going again.

Dreadful, useless service overshadowed the ok food.. We went here on a Saturday night. 4 other people in the restaurant should have been a sign of things to come.
The waiter was useless. We asked if there were specials and he said yes on the board outside.Nothing more.We then encouraged him to tell us what they were,
He would not allow the entree calamari to be doubled as a main
meal. He mentioned there were no prawns-only after we had asked-about the seafood pasta and some other dish. Odd as it a tiny menu. When the food came it was good enough.
We had to remind him to bring water. We saw him drinking water directly out the tap
at the bar right next to us.

BEST PRAWN RISOTTO ON CHAPEL ST. Went there for lunch and i got a 13$ prawn risotto. Probably one of the best risottos on chapel st. The rice was cooked perfectly al dente, the creaminess and the zesty flavor was definetely a winner.

Distasteful food and awful service. Went there to have a meal on the weekend and the food was just dreadful and the service was VERY poor!! The food was never like this before, it has gone down hill!!
Will not be returning and will be advising anyone I know, to not go there!!!!!

CNF is underrated! The food here is great yet it seems to always be quiet every time I walk past. I usually come for dinner and have had the eye fillet steak which never disappoints. The duck papadelle is also delicious! It's a cosy little restaurant, nothing fancy but it deserves to be known! Give it a try the next time you're in the area, you'll be pleasantly surprised

Delicious. Groupons tend to be pretty hit and miss but CNF was terrific. Perfectly poached eggs, rye bread (a welcome change to white/turkish) and sausages were great

Yummy and big portions. Came in last night with a scoopon. It had expired the week before but they were nice enough to let us book anyway.

We had the scallops to start which were delicious and cooked perfectly. A generous size for entre too, with three shells containing six scallops. We shared this and then had duck pasta and a seafood linguine. The duck pasta was delicious and very meaty. Even had left overs to take for lunch today. Shared the tiramisu which was great again.. so stuffed we couldn't finish even sharing.

Waiter was lovely and food came out quite quickly. Happy to recommend to others and would pop in for a quick meal again.

Purchased a Groupon voucher for breakfast for two people. Coffee was excellent and breakfast was fantastic. We ordered the Big Breakfast and Breakfast roti wrap. Both were delicious, serves adequate. Great service and food, highly recommended.

I was there at CNF cafe this morning for breakfast with friends couple with Scoupon. I thought she was nice enough and patient girl as I saw it. She tried to manage the situation alone for 5 tables. The owner should put the other waiting staffs. Not fair enough.

We prepaid for a breakfast here(even though have been here before and was good) and walked out before getting our food or drinks due to the WORST waitress we has ever encountered. Ever! When we got there she was unfriendly and uninterested, and it or so much worse! She refused to take order from my wife who was going to order for both of us. When she finally decided to take the order my wife said "we will both have the GF stack" the waitress then asks me what do I want, when my wife says to her "I just said we are both having..." She snapped at her "no you didn't you said I WILL HAVE!!" She also managed to insult us while taking coffee order ... After placing the orders which we had already prepaid for we walked the hell out of there and went to another cafe on Chapel. I hope the owner reads this because this is how you make sure someone NEVER comes back to your cafe.

Food was fantastic, plus had a Scoonpon voucher to make it sweeter. Entree was great (Calamari & Prawns), main Burger was FANTASTIC!! Just a little slow on service

Excellent. Just had 3 course dinner. Every course was absolutely first class. Even down to the coffee which can be a real let down at most restaurants but not so here. Everything was so good! Can't believe it wasn't packed, is so good!

Great Food. We brought a voucher on line for dinner for 8 people. We went on Saturday 10th August, 2013. Everyone had a BEAUTIFUL meal.. No complaints by anyone on the table about their food.. Lovely Lovely food. Entree of Popcorn Chicken was cooked beautifully. The prawns and Calamari were cooked to perfection. Mains: all the steaks arrived as ordered. Perfectly cooked and presented. The steaks were delicious and tender. The Duck was also a hit. We were all so full that no room for dessert. On another table the desserts looked yummy. Food we rated was 8/10.

The only downside to the evening was the service. The waiters tried their best but just took soooo long to get anything on your table. The beer took forever to arrive and the men ordered another when they were only half way through their beer (making sure they never ran out). The waiters took away the cutlery after entree but no cutlery arrived back for mains. After waiting around 5 minutes for the said cutlery, we just took them off another table. Service 5/10.

Overall, the food is amazing and the place worthwhile to visit. If the service was to smarten up the place would be amazing.

Absolutely looooooooved the food!!
Bought the scoopon and thought that it may be a shabby place. The waiters/waitresses are awkward, a bit unprofessional but they are helpful and they're definitely not rude! The food was amazing! I had the popcorn chicken and there was enough chicken to satisfy my partner and myself, then we ordered the steaks! Medium and medium rare and our steaks came out PERFECT! Then time for tiramisu which was delicious! All round couldn't have been happier with what we got! Cute little place and awesome food!!

Don't walk by. A little restaurant / cafe that is esy to walk by. Don't! Great for breakfast, lunch or a cosy dinner. Good food, recently redecorated and worth trying.

Coffee is a little hit and miss but their breakfasts are fantastic and consistent! Eggs are always cooked perfectly. Eggs Benedict are by far my favorite

Great . .. For trying out small serve of overcooked, overpriced pasta ;)

Impeccable service, great ambiance, decent food. I received some of the best service of all time at this little hidden cafe on Chapel St. The food was great and the decor and vibe was great for a lazy Sunday brunch.
Bob
Hit and miss. Well, more miss really. I wasn't impressed with the service - you'd think you were eating in a Michelin star restuarant with the attitude that gets served up with your meal.

I read on The Age that customer service in Australia now falls below the standard of even the UK - can we pin it on CNF?

Food was good though but given how many good restaurants there are in Melbourne, why bother going here to get served up a plate of spite??
Mike Harrison
Wow...I have just experienced the rudest service of my life!! While sitting outside with a friend at 2pm (post lunch and almost empty outside), my friend and I were abused my the owner saying he wasn't going to waste a table for only one coffee. He then snatched the water from the table, spilling it on me in the process. Given how much I have spent on this place in the past, it was breathtaking how poorly we were treated. Good food sure, but I will never eat at an establishment with such disgusting service.

We can't believe this place has been here 13 years and we only just discovered it! Great meal and even better service. Total gem on Chapel St.
