The kale and tahini salad was rich and flavoursome with citrus, cabbage, nutritional yeast along with seeds, broccoli etc. Nice and quiet when I visited mid Monday morning. Super fast service given the Bain Marie approach.
Best chai I’ve ever had!! It was creamy, fragrantly spiced but not overpoweringly so, and a rich dark chestnut colour.
The samosas were also very good, as was the flaky roti — freshly pan-fried and slightly sweet. The tahini and kale salad was a surprisingly nice invention, with an addition of nutritional yeast that appealed even to a non-vegan friend eating with me.
I think I still think about the sausage rolls on a daily! This place inspired me to make my own vegan sausage rolls! I absolutely loved the food here! And so shattered they aren’t open weekends! So call in sick and go here during the working week!
The staff is lovely, the food is cheap and I absolutely LOVED everything I had. The butter chicken and roti is to die for and I’m most certainly be coming back for more. Can’t recommend enough (free meal, honest review)
My experience wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best either! The staff were not not friendly but they weren’t friendly either which made it a bit awkward. The curry itself was okay. I liked how it was vegan and it was in some elements smooth and silky while in other parts of the curry, it was grainy and even dry to an extent which surprised me because it’s a curry. I kept reaching for my water because it was so dry. I think it needed more seasoning and more spice to lift it up and give it a bang because it was quite average. The atmosphere was cozy which was quite lovely and gave it a homey sense
Great vegan cafe. Lasagne was amazing! Interesting menu items available for all vegan palates. Great location too near Melbourne Uni👍 Prices are excellent!
This is my favourite near by food venue to grab a tasty lunch time meal, the customer service is fantastic and as someone with a SUCROSE intolerance its so wonderful to find a place with meals and desserts I can actually eat, unlike other places with refined sugar free option many of the desserts also come without artificial sweeteners (Any notoriousness will tell you how sweeteners can do long term damage and cause long term health issue).
What a cosy little spot. I've tried the sausage roll, multiple curries, lasagne and several dessert items, all of which were fantastic. I frequented this spot even before turning vegan let alone vegetarian, and recommend it for anyone who wants a nice warm meal in a great location!
AMAZING! The place was cosy. The service was good. The food was fantastic! We had curry chickpea, roti, kale salad, lasagna, kurma curry(?), and chocolate please cake and they were all tasty. The price was inexpensive.
I’ve been here a few times, I’m a big fan of the coffee and the sausage rolls. A little pricey for a Uni student but all vegan so if you’re in the areas you have to support, plus I love the venue and the staff!
My once a week treat between lectures - some of the best value food on/near campus! I love this place - especially the moussaka. Disappointing that the prices are more than they once were but I guess that's to be expected given their prime location. They are pretty chill with you studying or whatever in their upstairs space. However, a friend was once told off very publically and loudly for bringing a chicken sandwich in. The waiter's issue was not with the fact she had brought in outside food - in fact, she said that was fine - but that a non-vegan substance was being consumed. So be sure to respect the vegan-ness!
I’m a massive meat lover however their vegan lasagnas really change that side of me.
I crave for the lasagna like every week, should choose the asian salad to go with it.
Also worth trying the vegan sausage roll too!!!!
Had their vegan lasagne and large cookie. Both were amazing!
The lasagne was nice and flavoursome and the fact that it was vegan was a plus! It was on or with almost any other lasagne I’ve had - the pesto sauce on the top is the best part.

Great Place for a quick small bite! Unfortunately they no longer serve my favourite beety bean wrap however they still have a lot of great vegan dishes and desserts!
The reason I love this place so much is because as a vegan and a student it's so hard to find fast, easy, and relatively cheap vegan dishes. This place is right across Melbourne University Parkville campus. During exam times when I don't have time to cook this place saves me so much time and money!
Staff are also really friendly and it's a really cute and cozy ambience. Will continue to go and definitely recommend for vegans who are looking for good value food on the go!

Lovely staff, cheap and delicious. The treats are particularly divine, especially the raw snickers! Super Eco conscious and warm vibe. My fave place to grab a drink while doing a bit of study.
Simple and cheap vegan food that's delicious. Every time I go to Mantra Lounge I'm impressed so I'll be making an effort to go more often. It's nice to be able to order anything off the menu - the 'sausage' rolls are especially delicious.
Got their lasagna, Morrocan Quinoa and Chocolate Pleasecake through Ubereats and it is amazing! Awesome food when studying hard for exams! So cheap and so yummy! Keep it up guys!!
i have always enjoyed my dining experience at mantra lounge as their food is really good and value for money, and it gives off such a cozy and friendly vibe! the staff here are really friendly as well and they give off a happy and positive vibe :)
ordered the lasagna ($9) together with the garden salad which totalled up to $10. the lasagna was made of healthy ingredients and i like how they incorporated kidney beans into it, which i have quite enjoyed as it added extra flavour and texture into the lasagna. my sister ordered the sausage roll ($5) and the chocolate slice ($4). the sausage roll consisted of minced vegetables, and my sister liked it very much. we shared the chocolate slice, which tasted really good as well!
overall, always a good dining experience here and would definitely be back someday.
Mantra Lounge is not only the most affordable option on campus but has amazing curries and salads! The desserts are amazing as well! Staff are so so friendly and accomodating!
Really nice cozy place to catch up with a friend or just do some private study. Lasagna was nice but not amazing but they have some really tasty desserts that you'd never guess were vegan.
The Mantra is such a warm and cozy spot. The staff are so so SO lovely, genuine and always put a smile on my face. I've had the mousakka ($10) and sausage roll ($5). They were both delicious and fresh. The serving of the mousakka was extremely generous for the price, and those sausage rolls MMMM I love. If you're around and want a guilt free, cheap, fresh and delicious feed Mantra is the place!
Really cozy and friendly vibes at the cafe! Everything on the menu just sound so good and healthy for you! Even their classic Chocolate Pleasecake satisfies your sweet cravings being sugar-free! 👍🏽
Had their Moussaka and Lasagna, which both came with a salad of your choice. The Lasagna was delicious, with the generous amount of pumpkin and beans, coupled with the flavoursome pesto sauce. Moreover, the pasta sheets was noteworthy as it was unique (in a good way) and different from the usual ones. The Moussaka was also on par with the Lasagna, as it was flavourful and packed with lots of different elements. Even though the portions do not look huge, both the Moussaka and Lasagna were very filling as we barely finished our portions. Last but not least, we also had the Mango Coconut Lala, which was equally delectable and refreshing. I would definitely come back to try their famous Chocolate Pleasecake, since we were too full for any desserts this time round.
Love this place! Cheap price, yummy food. Lunch deal is $10, affordable for students. Organic coffee is amazing! The lounge is small but quaint, will recommend to friends!
If you want a good value vegetarian/vegan meal, this is the place to go. It is housed in a re-fitted former terrace house, and has a small dining area downstairs, a larger one upstairs, as well as some outside and kerbside tables. The decor and settings are fairly basic, but the food has an Indian influence and is really good. Their meal deal of a main and dessert is great value, and the service here is friendly and welcoming. And best of all, it is fully vegan.
Been meaning to check Mantra Lounge out for awhile, and it did not disappoint! While I didn't get to try their famous vegan lasagne (it was unfortunately sold out when I went) I absolutely loved the comforting korma curry and brown rice dish I had instead. Really pleased with the serving size, as well: generous but not intimidating. Not to mention the upstairs eating area is just the most peaceful place to be on a rainy Sunday afternoon (as was the day I went, heh).
Had the Schnitzel sauerkraut burger. I died and went to heaven. Fresh, light and how do they get the schnitzel to taste soooooo deliciously good?
I am not vegan but have a friend who is, so a group of us went there and I ordered lasagne. It was a meal under $10, the portion being big and generous. If I did not know this was a vegan restaurant, I would have thought this was a normal lasagne. Absolutely loved the flavours and my friend loved her pleasecake dessert. Would definitely come back again.
One down side was there was only one worker there that night. About 6-8 people waited in line to be served and the wait was very long. Hope they get more workers for dinner time. But other than that, a perfect location for healthy lunch or dinner, especially uni students who are looking for something cheap and yummy.
Chocolate pleasecake ($6) had great texture (seriously so smooth), and not toooo sweet, but a little bland: could have done with a lot more chocolate flavour. My friend had the lasagna, though, which was apparently pretty good: might try their savoury stuff.
Another one of those "I cannot believe this is vegan moments!" Was absolutely blown away by Mantra Lounge's tiramisu, thick decadent and creamy with a decent coffee hit: one of the best I have had! The chocolate pleasecake was nice but not rich enough in flavour for my personal liking. I cannot wait to return and try some of their other offerings. Such a cosy ambience with friendly staff.
Mantra lounge is where I had the first vegan meal of my life and it is one of my favourites places to eat. Aptly located on Grattan street for Uni students, this place is a perfect combination of healthy, tasty and reasonably priced food. The staff is super friendly and nice. The lasagne and desserts are my favourite. Great place to start off if you have never had vegan food before. Thumbs up!
You cannot beat this place for affordability and convenience. I even had them cater my toddlers birthday. Everything is tasty and cheap. Great vegan place
This location is a small cafe style vegan eatery, what's unique about it is that it had a menu which changes regularly which switches things up. Service by staff was excellent and the best part was the Mango Lassi Yogurt Smoothie at the end. Fabulous way to end lunch, next time you have the chance don't skip on it!
With an option of two meal deals at $7.95/$12.95, you can fill up on a tasty selection to suit your budget. Separate items are also available such as pasties, salads, soups, cakes etc for a fair price.
Cute little cafe next to uni, perfect for spot for a quiet lunch. They had a special going (which I assume runs everyday) with an assortment of curries, rice and salad. I had something from the cabinet; the pesto pasta salad and was delish- a little bitter due to the raw broccoli (I think) but lovely nether less. Will be back!
Prices have gone up, it is now $9.95 for the Mantra combo deal and this just comes with the daily curry and salad (dessert no longer included). It's $13.95 if you add a dessert of your choice. Dessert alone is $6.
I went on a sunday afternoon, and the curry of the day was mixed veg and tofu, plus the mango slice. Was extremely impressed at how tasty the curry was, it was so creamy and moreish, to the extent that I declared to my partner that I wouldn't mind turning vegan if this was how vegan food taste like. My only complaint was that I was not given enough curry with the rice, but this could just be me being greedy.
The mango slice was also delicious. Creamy and almost the consistency of smooth butter.
Would definitely come back.
Awesome place to go during a uni day for a huge healthy and yummy meal for low lost. Service is occasionally a little slow/disorganised but generally pleasant and warm. Great food

Mantra Lounge specializes in "delicious, wholesome cuisine that doesn’t cost the earth" and believes that "vegan cuisine need not be expensive or exclusive". They opened about 9mths ago and is voted the best value vegan resturant in Melbourne...
The menu is same for the whole day, but changes the next day. Very good food and generous portions. Definitely worth for money compared to other places around campus.
Amazing mango slice. Went here for the first time last week and loved it - the food is filling, yummy and affordable, and the mango slice is possibly the best cake I have ever had in Melbourne.
Tiny vegetarian cafe that's easy to miss. Came at closing hours so food options were limited. Super affordable and home-cook style foods that were satisfying and a certain mango dessert that just made me happy.
Love love love their food!!! A great value meal in melbourne. Their chickpea masala was perfect and apple cake was delicious. I would definitely recommend mantra lounge to my friends. Thumbs up people
Great place for a meal and some zen. This place is amazing if you enjoy vegan food. The food is reasonably priced, full of flavour and the place is lovely place to chill out. My friend thought it was like having lunch in a spa. Thank you for the wonderful food and the lovely ambience.
Thumbs up. Nice food, pretty decor, and very low prices! The only strange thing is you get charged a lot more to other anything other than the set menu...eg. I aaked for the mantra deal (usually 7.95) without the pasta and it cost me like $13 or something...Strange. However, I'm so happy that there are more good vegan venues popping up that can rival good omnivore cafes. Vegan pride!!
Chocolate and Vanilla Pleasecake. A (vegan) chocolate and vanilla 'pleasecake' - which is gluten free and sugar free!
There is no better way to begin your Mondays than with a healthy diet to kick start your week. When I recently discovered that there was a vegan restaurant on Grattan St just around the corner from the Dental Hospital at Melbourne Uni, I only wished it had been opened earlier back when I was but a uni sprout. Mantra Lounge provides a range of healthy meal deals starting at $7.95 for whatever is available on the day, up to $10.00 meals deals for their more special items. All the food is vegan including the desserts. The food at Mantra Lounge is filling and of good value. More importantly it’s also healthy and cruelty free. There are seats at outside the building for you to enjoy some fresh air while having your lunch. Inside the restaurant is staffed with people who are friendly and overall give off a positive vibe. Loaded lasagna meal deal $10.00 w/ mesclun salad mix and cake of the day (date and caramel cake) I couldn’t resist going for the vegan lasagna simply because I’ve always wanted to see what they would taste like. I can tell you that I was not one bit disappointed. It was creamy and packed full of flavour. To believe that it does not contain any cheese or dairy products makes me want go and start making my own vegan lasagnas as well. I’ve been making vegetarian ones with less cheese, but have yet to make one that is free from chee
Wow. I just had a great meal for a great price , salad rice. chick peas curry ,,it filled me up for around 7.50 dollars ,,,I think I'm turning vegan
Awesome. How goods this place....love it...got 2 dishes, 2 drinks...pastries and roti. .All for 25$...service was good...food good...quality and atmosphere. ..excellent. ..Thank you!!
Vegetarian fast food. Recommended. Indian run, staffed mostly by students and backpackers. $7.95 for a meal with basmati rice, chickpeas masala, salad + dressing and dessert at the time was sticky date. The $3 chai latte is also good. Needs more seating. Perhaps with more business, they can apply for sidewalk seating.
Vegan/veggie delight. Had the $7.95 lunch special which was a chickpea masala, spiced rice, side salad and apple cake. +a $2 flatbread.
Food was good and cheap, decor cute and staff friendly. Lots of flavours.
Will definitely be back to try the daily changing menu, and am particularly keen to try the chai latte and mango lassi.
Local plant based (vegan and vegetarian friendly) cafe reinvented, now offering specialty coffee and freshly prepared breakfast and lunch options.
Always enjoy the food here. Fresh, tasty and a good price. One of my favourite regular places for a quick bite.
Staff are nice, it's a 100% vegan restaurant, i ordered the butter chicken, I enjoyed the taste but found the prices a bit high
Cosy and delicious food, not oily or salty. Great flavours and very fresh.
My favourite place to eat near work; friendly service and delicious, nourishing food. Butter 'chicken', the satay bowl and 'cheezy' pasta are must haves. The brownies are pretty good too!
Yummy food finally OPEN! I had a vegan butter chicken today. Tasted better than ever! Nicely packed for take away. Highly recommended place!
Amazing food and staff. The desserts are to die for and the lasagna is amazing! The mango lala it's really nice and creamy, totally inexpensive and delicious vegan food. Perfect for everyone, vegan or not. The portions are nice and big. Will be going frequently from now on.
