The place is located inside Melbourne Central near the food court seating area. I like that area as that was where I was proposed to!
So I got my usual flat white coffee - it was strong yet not bitter. Saw other people's photos with coffee art but I tend to get my coffee in a takeaway cup so it stays warm longer, so didn't get any, but nevertheless, the coffee is really good and I would be back again.
This speciality coffee shop has barely any seating, luckily there's a communal area where people have their lunches and coffee.
From the reports I've heard and read they are very consistent with their coffee and on my visit it was made pretty well. Good body, naturally sweet and creamy.
The particular blend for my latte was from Sensory Lab which I recently visited and also enjoyed thoroughly. It is a stark contrast to the other Plantation I visited in QV which I disliked (now closed).
A quick and easy place to grab some respite while shopping in the city, Plantation actually make really good coffee. They have a good selection, and their iced drinks are really good too.
There are some decent choices of sweets and pastries, and they are served on cute boards. There is plenty of seating alongside the cafe front, and service is friendly and efficient. They are also fab at takeaway coffees and the wait is never too long.
I walk past this place all the time and have always wanted to try it. As it was a very cold morning I opted for a hot chocolate.
It was creamy, smooth and very delicious.
Probably one of my favourites in Melbourne so far!
Staff were really ace to and put a smile on my face

Amazing specialty coffee. They usually have a range of different coffee to choose from, which chages occasionally. Been here many times and never disappointed
This is a nice place to take a break from the chaos in Melbourne Central. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the service provided was of a high standard.
I had the cappuccino (love that foam art!) while my sidekicks had the mocha and iced latte.
The cappuccino was smooth, aromatic and not overly acidic. It had a distinctive taste and this made it an interesting experience. The other drinks were also well received and quenched everyone's thirst.
After stocking up on caffeine, it was time to plough through the crowds....
Great service, friendly staff. Since its located near the food court, its easily accessible. The chai is great! Smoothe, nutty and the right temperature.
Love their coffees ☕️ they also have the best banana bread and pastries!
Location is really convenient. Just at Melbourne central on the food court level.
friendly staff! Nice service! Ordered a ice latte and it turned out to be ammmmazzzing! Thx for the beautiful job! Definitely come back again to try more!
Tried this small little coffee shop in Melbourne central. Care was used in the preparation of the coffee. The coffee beans were strong and robust
10/10 establishment to take your 10/10 qt for 10/10 coffee
the service is amazing and you always get a smile and a wink with your coffee would go again
We come here only for the coffee - this place is one of our favourites for coffee. Order anything - long black, espresso, latte, mocha etc. the coffee is flavourful and aromatic.
Good coffee, by far the cheapest I’ve found in Melbourne.
Got this intense Kafeine kick, finally...!
Decor is simple, coffee is good, and service is friendly
Highly Recommended: Iced Chocolate / Iced Coffee
A convenient location that serves up awesome coffee is what Plantation sums up to be. Located on the Upper floors of Melbourne Central, the coffee joint shares both seatings outside in the common area, and some small stolls inside as well.
I love that Plantation opens up later than typical cafes, so if you ever need a coffee run in the late afternoon - evening, then Plantation has got you covered.
Points for: excellent coffee, ample seating, location
I usually order a strong latte, and for me, it's especially good here because they get a balance of richness, bitterness, dark almost chocolaty tone, that just hugs you in the morning.
Speaking of mornings, it can get pretty busy, so you need maybe 10 mins to get your coffee before work.
Conveniently located in Melbourne Central, there is also plenty of seating, just avoid the booths - there's always a random person sleeping, or a couple making out.
I go this cafe often as they are located in convenient place and open until a later time than other cafe. It is advantageous that you can buy nice coffee easily, but it is hard to find your seat. Somewhat price setting is high, but it's reasonable considering the location. Their peanuts butter cookies are very nice and worth a try.
Good coffee with interesting ambience!
The small is really small, but at this location and price ($3.5), I think its justified! I had my regular, latte, and I liked it!
A lovely cafe serves good cafe and a range of yummy pastries. Service is quick and friendly. They also have a small range of coffee making equipment for those coffee lovers!
I've been going to plantation for about 6 years now and still love it. It doesn't matter which barista has served it up my coffee over the past years - it's always consistently good! Their filtered coffee is not my favourite but still nice enough. Plantation is a relaxing place to sit away from the hustle and bustle of MC, lots of natural light and comfy seats. Staff are kind and knowledgable about their coffee
Small shop located in the quieter corner in the food court (below the cinema). Visited close to closing time (about 1 hr), so only offer take away option. Had 2 rmedium coffees, no deserts/sweets. Cup size is quite small for a medium size cup, and its slightly dearer at $4.50. Both latte and flat white smells really nice. The latte had a stronger coffee taste (bitter) then the flat white. I normally have 1 tspn of sugar but not required on this occasion. Service was quick and friendly.
The Swine's search for great coffee continues and today the big pig ventured to Melbourne Central in chase of a lovely lil latte for mornink tea. The Swine has been eyeing off Plantation for a while now, and today was the day for a sneaky sip. The place doesn't really have a great vibe with a food court set up but as a shop front it does have a certain charm. Service was quick and the staff were very nice.Kudos.The Swine calls it as it is and Fong makes a quality coffee. Perfectly hot (as ordered by the Swine ) this coffee bean blend is piggy-licious good. Snort!! Prices are also very reasonable - Tree fitty - is a bargain for a small quality this good in the city. Swine Approved 3.15 for a small if you work in the Melb Central building set up...just be sure to fash ya ding dong!!!
Popped into Plantation for a prudent pick-me-up. Service was friendly and warm and the brews were alright. It’s located in a funky corner of QV making for some people watching as your sip your lattes. It can become a bit of a wind tunnel, as we had realised. I didn’t go for any of the food as nothing jumped out of me, but handily there is a full foodcourt around the corner and below.
Very relaxed cafe to grab a coffee and pastry. The coffee is called steadyfast made from 60% Colombia 40% Brazil coffee beans its delicious. Service is quick, its quiet with relaxing music in the background.
Coffee was good but I could get a soy latte somewhere else for less than $5. Would drop by if I desperately need a coffee whilst at melb c, otherwise probably not spend the extra dime here.
Good coffee in a very chilled environment. Very popular place for late afternoon fix and sometimes hard to find a table but worth a drop by if you are in the area.
A nice coffee place that serves good coffee, and a convenient place to visit before or after a movie. Tucked in the corner of a food court, it is not only a fair place to relax and while the time away, but also a good place for people watching with plenty of human traffic.
I love that you can fill up your water bottle at Plantation's water bottle tap located inside. What a great idea. The staff are really nice, always happy to have a chat. Though I have had better coffee elsewhere I will return to Plantation because of the nice service.
My preferred place to get coffee at Melbourne Central, and also to satisfy my sweet tooth. Can't go pass the cookies and the mini cakes there. Strong, robust and full-bodied, both black and milk coffees are executed perfectly and balanced in flavour. Wait times can vary depending on the barista but is usually quite reasonable. Same can be said for the service.
A great place for a coffee and snack in the CBD. Coffee is high quality and comes from the Sensory Lab and there's a great range of cakes (including buttering whoopie pies). They also have a big selection of high quality teas.
Hands down the best coffee in Melbourne central. I have been getting my coffee here for the last few years, service has been good and coffee always consistent. Keep it up guys!
Possibly the no.1 Cafe in Melbourne Central ....
Great set up, big foyer seating area, lots of option on your preferred coffee extraction.
The only downside, can be a bit dark inside, not enough natural light and fresh air.
Really lovely service and coffee made quickly. Soy cappuccino was smooth and heated right (no overtly burnt nutty flavour!). The places offers a variety of tempting sweet treats sourced from a variety of bakers. Lovely set up and decor also.
Setting and feel of the place is good. Although a big let down was the coffee being cold which is probably one of the worst things for me when having a coffee. Coffee freshness and taste was good and they had a good selection of cafe treats if you desired. Not too bad, just need to make sure they are get the milk up to the right temperature.
This was by no means the best hot chocolate I have ever had in Melbourne, but Plantation's rendition was dark and not overly sweet as many in Melbourne can be. However, I would argue that the medium size, for $4.50, is what many other cafes would serve as a small, as many other reviewers have noted. Yet, the staff were very friendly and I will give Plantation another go next time I'm in the mood for some coffee so I can try their own beans.
One of the best coffee places in town! So happy that they have a branch that's located in Melbourne central (makes it a lot easier for me to get coffee there)
tasty coffee. Today I just ordered long mac. it was awesome, nice and strong espresso with little bit of milky milk sweet finish to the end. Next time I would like to try their pastries!
Coffee nook in the QV complex. I opted for a chai latte and a rhubarb and apple pastry. Chai was good but needed more aniseed kick. I find this is quite common in my chai travels. Pastry was delicious. They have interesting accessories too. The outdoor seating would be better on a warm day. On a cold day the "lane" was a wind tunnel.
Didn't expect price to be so low. So good, that brownie was to die for. Not to sweat, perfect balance of sweet and rich. The coffee was nice and the seating arrangement was really cool.
I love my coffee and this is my personal favourite place for a coffee, I go here whenever I can. Lovely and silky, the coffee takes a while longer than usual but it's well worth it!
. It is a specialty coffee shop, where you can buy a range of coffee beans as well as a perfect brew for you, whether it be the espresso based or cold-drip.

The latte art is amazing, and the coffee – no matter what is ordered – is consistently great. The baristas are ridiculously friendly, are extremely knowledgable about coffee and make the effort to remember your name and order.
Great coffee and mini shop. I love the colonial style of Plantation, so much so that the look was the first thing that got my eye. The coffee was very strong bur flavoursome and not bitter. Strong enough to put sugar in it. Service was very prompt and friendly. I love many of the things in their mini-shop, especially the Panela Sugar from Colombia. A treat that took home with me. They have a small selection of sweet delights. I never expect anything from places with sweets, but I have tried the chocolate and passion fruit tartlet and it was very good, rich and with the flavours coming clearly through. .
Good setup. In the upstairs food court at Melbourne Central this place is set up and appears to be a coffee specialist. They do all types of coffee and they do it well. My large skinny cappuccino takeaway was really good. A little ever prices at $5.50 but take that out of the equation and i couldn't ask for a better coffee. They also do a range of snacks and they staff are friendly. Taking your name when ordering is always a nice little touch!
Hot plantation. As a Melbournian who does not drink or like coffee, I've instead aimed to try as many hot chocolates around town. There are so many bad bad bad hot chocolates out there - fake powdery ones, overly sweet, overly watery, the list goes on. Plantation's hot chocolate makes for a pretty good one, nice chocolate flavour and not too sweet or milky. Yum. It's not really a cafe inside Melbourne Central, but rather a 'drive by' coffee bar. There's a few seats/tables opposite the coffee bar but it's mainly for takeaway.

Good coffee. If you're on the hunt for a good coffee in Melbourne Central look no further than Plantation. Nice setting and staff too.
Best peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie eveeeeer.. Coffee is rather variable but when it's good it's great
Love love love the place! Coffee are absolutely beautiful! All the gorges latte art made by very talented barista!!
Needs seating. Wish they had their own allocated seats!
Had the iced Mocha and was stunned that it came in the same hot drink takeaway cup. It would have been much nicer if they served it in a clear cup instead! The ice cream was really sweet but the ratio of coffee-chocolate was just nice.
Latte art. Staff are amazing what they do, guys smile. Thanks for grate coffe
Friendly staff!. Can't believe people say rude staff- that'swhy I like this place! Guys are always friendly and chatty, nice coffee- get the Awakening, $5 and it will kick your arse awake! Bring a book and chill out on the big bucket seats outside.
A fantastic coffee shop, coffee tastes great and the guys working are loads of fun and really know their stuff about coffee!! Screw Starbucks...
Great coffee!!. Every weekday morning I look forward to my Plantation coffee made by some of the best baristas in Melbourne! Love the latte art too
Amazing. Now coffee in Melbourne, most places is great but not amazing. Plantation is amazing. Nice bunch of guys, seemed pretty chilled and passionate.
NOTE: If you like Sensory Lab you'll LOVE Plantation.
Great coffee!. As usual urbanspoon didn't let us down! Great coffee in the centre of Melbourne - was quiet while we were there so were able to sit and gaze out the huge windows from a comfy armchair - friendly barista who knew his stuff - an excellent find!
Good coffee in a shopping centre? Since when?!. Yes, it is true, there is good coffee to be found here. I had to look past the coffee snob in me and go with my friend's recommendation. And oh my, what a pleasant surprise. Smooth lattes, but there is a certain thickness that is so warm and fulfilling. Unfortunately they ran out of soy for a couple of weeks, but now back to the good taste that keeps me coming past every morning.
Heard there is "good decaf" here too. What? Am yet to try.
The staff are friendly and their choice of music is as though they got their hands on my own iPod. Win.

Great coffee usually, depends on barista. Some.of the staff are great, make an effort to remember names, others aren't so friendly, but overall one of the best in Melbourne
Superb coffee. 'Nuff said. Who would have thought that such phenomenal coffee would exist in a shopping centre? Not me, that's for sure. But these guys served amazing coffee, at spot on temperature, and were cheery and helpful when it came to assisting us with buying coffee supplies. Will be back. Often!
Worth stopping by. It's like an oasis in the coffee desert that is Melbourne Central.
Best coffee place at Melbourne Central. Come down and be served by the uber cool staff who are serious about their coffee. Only criticism- coffee a little cool (temp.)for my liking otherwise a very commendable drop.
