Review Chop Shop - Melbourne

Eugene Yap
The food taste pretty good here. Love the side dishes, too bad you cant refill them apart from the kimchi. Not even the lettuce can be refilled.

New Korean BBQ on the block, relaxed and nice decors, the place looks like a butcher shop, well I guess that is sort of in the name😅. This place was perfect for our pre-drinks. We ordered a BBQ set, I honestly forgot which one but it was the perfect amount for 3 people😊. The food is what you’d expect from the other Korean BBQs around the place, but what really gave this place the extra points for me was being able to chill and enjoy myself while not being gassed by the BBQ smoke😚 - Be

Amazing food and atmosphere. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly.

Superb food at a great price combined with awesome service, provides for a killer experience!

A great experience for a group. It's a lot of fun! Would recommend. Very clean too and friendly and efficient staff.

Good. We didn't do the grill but enjoyed the meal. Would come back again.

Fantastic staff and warm welcoming owner. Gave us heaps of suggestions on what to order and have a great time. Good food and cool environment. Main thing is that although this is a Korean BBQ, it was not too smokey where you cloth gets really smelly too.

Chop shop is great - food is amazing and staff are very friendly. A great selection of meats, stews and sides at a reasonable price. Great option for groups as the restaurant is big - 3+ levels, however would recommend contacting to make a booking if it's a large group on a Friday or Saturday, as it can get busy. Not many vegetarian options, however some of the stews can be made vegetarian at request and the Kimchi Pancakes are awesome. Highly recommend.

I like that this place looks a bit industrial with the stainless steel tables. The lunch menu has a good variety. The King Donkatsu lunch special was really good value, but unfortunately too much sauce and sauce was sour. The salad dressing was also too much.

food 3/5
service 4/5
environment 3/5

The painful restaurant. Fried chicken is the best dish in my order. the seafood pancake makes me feel like spring onion one, which even has some burn. But the sauce is amazing. the only highlight in my meal. The hotpot is normal, plain flavor and not interesting at all.

Staff: prompt service. Got our order wrong (ordered spicy one but gave us soy one)
Ambience: nice and vibrant
Food: the worst oyster blade i have ever had. The cuts weren’t fresh at all and it tasted so bad on the grill. The kimchi soup was so salty that I couldn’t finish it. We had 3 people and the set had literally 3 pieces of lettuce.. (can’t complain on this for $49 value set). The pork were much better than the beef though. Definitely give credits for the pork.
Value: cheap but not worth it.

We were craving for a KBBQ after a long rainy day and decided to try this place. The ambiance was unique with neon lights and the layout of the floors was unique. We ordered the pork deal which included some banchan and noodle. We thought the portion was small so we added an extra plate of marinated pork neck and a plate of kimchi pancake. And we were wrong as the portion was quite big. The quality of the pork meat were great and fresh. The pancake was also crispy and tasted delicious. The service was great although this the first time we noticed that the staff didn’t try to cook the meat for us. Don’t get us wrong but we like to cook ourselves so we can enjoy the food in our pace. Most KBBQ places, the staff always cook for us and mostly they rush it so we have to eat quickly. The price was also quite worth for the food.

I was a little hesitant with the raw meat photos on the menu, but we’d decided to order the Combo butcher cut set anyway with kimchi pancake. We had to order extra chicken as it did not came with the set. Surprisingly, it came with so many side dishes then other Korean restaurant. The most enjoyable Korean bbq so far.

I love Korean food so much and this restaurant is great! Nice service great staff delicious food. But may not try second time. Don’t be mislead, if you want to try it still a recommended place.

This place is soooo cute. The prices are pretty reasonable and I recommend the pork deal thing. It comes with soooo many side dishes like corn cheese and cold noodles. The corn cheese is rlly good. The sausage soup is also really good.

Had lunch with my friends there. We ordered bbq and it’s delicious! Service was friendly and quick. We enjoyed our lunch! Definitely come back again!

One can never have enough Korean BBQ. At the Chop Shop, it's Korean BBQ at its finest. The butcher's plate had generous chunks of beef and pork belly (which were not that fatty....but maybe I am just deluding myself). You do the cooking yourself so it's quite fun.
They serve the best spicy cold noodle that I've ever had in Melbourne. Almost identical to the real thing in Seoul.
The tables are small and the side dishes take up heaps of space so a bit of a balancing act is required. Here's a tip....the "barrel" that you sit on acts as a storage space for your shopping bags - just lift the lid off the barrel.
All in all, it was a great experience and this Chop Shop escapes the chop!

Food is so good! Fast service with nice staff, nice and intimate setting for close friends (great atmosphere!!). The food was amazing (a favourite are the cold buckwheat noodles (chewy, sweet, sour, delicious!)). The place is nice for pre-drinks and food before a night-not-to-forget.

Chop Shop, you’re too good 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I come back too many times, the best KBBQ I have been to. The sets are definitely worth the price, or possibly even cheaper!

All sets come with SEVEN side dishes, and the sets are as low as $40. Every KBBQ I’ve been to I end up spending much more than I plan to, but not at Chop Shop 👌🏽too good guys.

The side dishes are amazing, especially the cold spicy noodles! The pork belly is too good! And my favourite is the marinated chicken.

The only sad thing is that the marinated chicken is not part of the $40 sets, so you guys do have to add it on as an extra.

But good stuff 😂👌🏽

Authentic Korean restaurant, focusing on BBQ and stew.
Polite and efficient service, funky decorations.
Delicious and affordable food with many add on options.
BBQ package is great for sharing and if younare keen to try differrent side dishes.
Quite spacious as they occupy the second and third floor of the building.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!! First time here & I LOVED IT! Food was beautiful & loved the ambiance of the entire place. If you’re looking for authenic Korean bbq, this is the place to be! Also very nice for the instagram feed. Highly recommend the bulgogi beef & the pancake. Might I add, the staff are very friendly & definitely try their best to make sure you have the best experience. Would definitely recommend this place & it’s very accessible (heaps of routes if taking public transport)

I was at Korea few weeks ago for my food trip holiday, the food, service and internal design are very similar to the restaurants in Jeju and Seoul.

I ordered kimchi pork ribs and beef brisket, the beef brisket was hardly seasoned, suitable for those prefer unseasoned cooked red meat.

The kimchi and pork ribs have been modified for local market, it's not as sweet compared to authenticate Korean cuisine. Gloves are given to eat the ribs, girls if U r on a date don't pick ribs. Won't look attractive nibbling on bones... Lol

Will return to try the Korean BBQ

Quick friendly service. We ordered the beef set with bulging I and marinated skirt steak. Also ordered a half serve of spicy chilli pork neck. I was craving kimchi pancake-it was tasty but very oily. We received a number of side dishes-the cold noodle and kimchi were the best. Overall, I enjoyed it especially due to the number of side dishes received. I have had better meat elsewhere though.

If you want to have a quick but proper korean bbq before 5pm in Melbourne, please go to this restaurant.
We ordered beef set (2 options of meat), steam egg, spicy rice cake and silky tofu hotpot. The food was really nice, the portion of food and appetiser was all sufficient, and the price was very reasonable.
And the staff were very very friendly (This is very important to me) they tried to help you as much as they could, and they were very patient.

This is my second visit. And yes! They are so good and very reasonable price for big group bbq. We are having pork butcher cut set + kimchi pancake + 2 serving of slice pork belly + a serving of beef ox tongue + 3 rice and cost $22 per person. Overall the meat is so tasty and nice, the sides is lovely as well. Recommend the spicy noodle!💕

Staff are friendly, restaurant is really cozy, especially upstairs. Food was nice but can’t say it was better than other KBBQ places. Location is really good being really central in the cbd

When you order a beef brisket soup... You expect some beef with it. But instead, I got soup with my three 10 cent coin sized beef. It wasn't even brisket either. More like 3 pieces of beef you usually have in a pho... 3 pieces...

Omg this place is so adorable, definitely recommend the Pork Bulgogi, it's a little spicy but ohhhh sooo nicee 😍😍😍. The Staffs were all very friendly too 😊. Cost-wise its very affordable, perfect for uni students like moi 😉 #studentfriendly #yum

K: Korean barbecue is never a bad option for group dining options and today was no different. Conveniently located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD on Swanston Street, Chop Shop takes on a very ambient yet cosy interior with inviting staff who are attentive and generous to your needs.

With plenty of seating options both large and small, they catered for a table of 6 of us without too much concern. Today we opted for the $75 for 880g of meat deal with a myriad range of cuts of meat including beef, pork and chicken alike. On top of that, we also ordered a side of Seafood Pancake, and the other pictured items whose names I cannot spell nor recall due to its nature of pronunciation. With that being said lets get to the food!

The pancakes were very good, with flavour oozing throughout eat bite. You can definitely taste the outer coating infused with the seafood flavour within. The noodle looking dish was also tasty, resembling friend vietnamese noodles- warm, tender and flavoursome. The cheese meal that looked like Gnocchi was surprising, as it tasted exactly like Gnocchi texture wise, but definitely had a very kimchi/ chilli vibe to it which I could see how others would appreciate.

The meat itself was good, just not the best we have had. Tender, easy to cook, and very generous in portion size, you definitely are able to sample the broad range of meats they serve here. Depending on what you like, I think the Pork was my favourite of the evening tasting extra soft and even crackling in my mouth.

Overall a very solid Korean Barbecue restaurant if you want to visit somewhere convenient with exceptional value as well.
Food: 3.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Value: 4/5

Overall: 3.5/5

have been here twice now, first time we were borderline blind drunk (thank you for allowing us to eat here that night) second time for a quick lunch. both experiences were good. first time we shared a korean bbq and many sides, second time we got a beef bulgog each. both delicious. i really like the place, it's 3 storeys and has a cool atmosphere, almost like that busy city from final fantasy 7. although, it seems a bit dangerous - if i took my child here i would not be able to enjoy the meal because i would be watching him like a hawk, to make sure he does not fall out the open window on the 3rd floor (leading to the street), and making sure he does not fall off on the other side, down to the middle of the first floor (there are no barricades or things to block this from happening, only small yellow signs that say "don't let child stand on table" or something, implying they can fall down easily). top floor by the window, if i had a bag on the chair by my side, it could easily fall out the window - only blocked by 2 metal poles. I could easily climb out the window and fall. but that would be a very silly thing to do. for most people who have common sense, this should not be a problem. i know however some people don't possess the amount of common sense needed to not fall out a window. anyway, the service is fine - they don't beat around the bush, they are quite busy and serve you qquickly. the 2nd time we were pressed for time, and managed to get in and out in about 20 minutes. very good.

There's something attractive about a dirty quick feed when you're in the mood.

Sticky tables from the remnants of the previous diner, it's the casual atmosphere with your mates that entices you. There's no pretenses, what you see is what you get. Although the pictures and decor say otherwise, a Monday dinner with old mates has no need to be fancy.

Kimchi pancakes haven't been precut. Instead, we're supplied with scissors to cut it in whatever shape our heart desires allows a certain flexibility not found in other Korean restaurants. Suffice to say, I have a greater appreciation for other restaurants who give attention to this little detail.

It's not a bad place to go on Swanston street if you have no where else to go. With 3 levels, it's accommodating and the budae jigae is not bad at all.

Food ordered:
Spicy sausage stew (including noodles and cheese) $35
Crispy kimchi pancake $11 (from $12 since we had it with the stew)

Brings me back to Korea! I spent 6 months studying in Korea and was having cravings for some barbecue. This place hits the spot! Thinly sliced 삼겹살 (pork belly) was so good. 진짜 맛있어요

The BBQ here is shit... I ordered the butcher cut set is like offering me the cheapest meat from Coles. And service is nothing no one care and change the source dish and the BBQ plate even is going black. It’s totally different from the first time I came here half year ago. Try those Korean BBQ near Victoria Market way better than here don’t waste money here like me.
Flying Forward
TL;DR: Decent lunch options, but falls a little short of being amazing.

Beef rib stew (galbi jjim) is one of my favourites. The stew is tasty and a little sweet, but the main thing was that the beef ribs were just a little chewy for me, i.e. it wasn't "fall apart" tender.

That said, it's pretty central and has a good atmosphere so you can crowd around the classic steel drum tables with a few friends and soju.
Megan
We ordered their Spicy Sausages Stew, yum!!! It came with 3 sides. Having the stew with ramen noodles was splendid. Their kimchi pancakes were nice and crispy on the sides. Their BBQ was as good.

I've found out that Chop Shop is one of the most fav Bbq place for me right now ! Im obsessed with the side dishes which were provided along the main course. I literally went there for time in a roll between Dec to the Beginning of Jan 2018.

The 75 premium set was lit... OMG ! ( Im craving for it again while writing this review.. no no I have to lose weight 😂 )

However, For whatever reason , I was refused to serve BBQ during lunch time and there was a table who were rnjoying BBQ at the same time. When I asked the waitress the reason why, she said because the couple had booked bBq for lunch. A bit disappointed, but I'll def go back.
Jin H.Y
It was one the worst Korean meals I ever tried. I don't want to waste my money and time again!
And Check you bill carefully and complain if you get charged more than what you ordered.
Urban Avenger
Delicious meat, good table service, and funky atmosphere. Seating arrangements are a bit crowded and sometimes the mix of music, other customers and cooking made it impossible to hear my friends sitting right next to me.
Overall a good experience, will definitely be bringing my friends back for more.
Quynh To Truong
The customer service is terrible. The way staff service and talk with customer is so bad. I will never come back there any more. Food is just at the normal standard, nothing special..at all.
Corietta Silaen
The worst Korean restaurant, we ordered beef bulgogi, the food portion is just like for baby, totally different than what showing on menu. tasteless,What a rip off. Never come back again
Gee
Tasty Korean bbq venue on Swanston Street. Had the butchers meat pack which had plenty of meat for three, kimchi pancake and seafood pancakes which were delicious. The beef ribs were fairly expensive and quite bland for my tastes. Decent experience though!
Hell's Kitchen
Walked into this place yesterday, staff were very friendly and instantly made a table of 5 available. For the price the food was good (see photos) around 12-15 per platter and get generous with the serving. These dishes were cooked and did not need to be cooked using the cooker on the table. I noticed that the price of raw uncooked meat is a bit more expensive 30-50
All in all, good experience and would definitely visit again
Dollmination
Came to have their Pork Kimchi soup, it taste alright. Service was great; very attentive and fast. Ambience and decor was on point with the theme of chop shop. My friend really enjoyed her ice buckwheat noodle, she came here often.

Loitering around CBD, yearning to have something different than the usual landed us in this restaurant. A restaurant of 3 storey was filled with patrons. We were sure to have a good time. Ordered the Korean Barbecue meant for 2 with 2 varieties of Beef (dont remember the name). Also ordered a portion of Chicken separately.

This was our first time @ Korean Barbecue and we made it very clear to the attendant who got us our order. He was supposedly to return after he managed to put all the meat in the barbecue that was placed in the center of the table. He never returned and Kunnu somehow managed to save all the meat pieces from getting burnt. What we later realized after observing other patrons was that we were not supposed to put the entire portion of all the meat in the barbecue at the same time, and as per the individual liking, individual foodies are supposed to barbecue fewer meat of their choices at regular intervals as per their liking. The accompaniments went perfectly well with the assortment of partially / fully cooked meat pieces.

The potential of this place is very high though bad service, small portions and total focus on Korean patrons works against this place.

Never shall we recommend....or ever shall we visit this place.
Arron Conran
Really nice food with great value for money. Quality of meat was surprisingly good for a 12 dollar meal. I got the beef steak dosirak meal bucket, while my girlfriend got the spicy chicken. Would definitely come back as place always seems busy.
Ruth
Ordered the ala carte instead of bbq so this review is not too comprehensive, but portions were pretty small and we were surprised/disappointed, not that value for money but tastes decent.
Jee B
Highlights: prompt and friendly service (though it was a Monday night at around 5pm). Serving sizes were good value for money! With only a bbq set you get an array of complementary side dishes that are basically small tasters for the actual entree dishes that they have. Favourites were the spicy cold noodles and japchae!
Lows: hard to even consider this a 'low' but the rice cakes used in the tteokbokki were a little too sticky in my opinion (not like the bouncy and chewy ones i prefer).

Overall we left this restaurant with a happy food baby and thought it was decent value!
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
-Edited-
We have been here more than 3 times and yesterday we went back and we dont know what happened in the kitchen, something has changed. The seafood pancake that used to be our favourite.. only had a bit of squid and 1 shrimp.....

The meat quality was still good. They offered a lot of side dishes that we can refill!

Other dishes were average !
Danny
Had beef set today. Advertised outside for 5 portions of beef but when ordered, you only could choose and have two out of 5. Bulgogi looks old, side dishes ok but not many per photo. When grilling, you have to grill all otherwise no one replaces burning black tray for you. Grilled tray burned easily if without oil or butter but nothing given even requested. Ending up eating black burned beef. Customer was bad, feedbacking but she just walking away pretending nothing. False adverisement and too pricey for the beef set. Not sure about other dishes though
Danny Nguyen
In my opinion I believe that the food portions here are a tad too small. Not exactly the best Kbbq place I've been to. However, it has a convenient location on Swanston St and the interior of the place is actually very nice.
FoodieMelb
Love the name of this place! However - there food can be improved a little bit. Their set lunch meals are tiny and the flavour is mediocre. There are many other Korean places around in the CBD.
One.hungry.girl10
CHOP SHOP! Craziest spread of 8 side dishes! With every bbq set you get 8 side dishes including cold noodles, pickles, kimchi, cheesy corn, potato noodles, potato salad and more! We ordered the steamed kimchi pork ribs which was delicious and unique.

Will be back for more!
Kristy Tran
We ordered the beef set for 2 at $49, the beef itself tastes alright, love their banchan which was quite different from other places that we used to have korean bbq. Seatings felt a bit cramp but the price was reasonable, service was pleasant. We will come back
The Food Traveller
Love their cold noodles which is served with bbq meat. Have gone back twice just to grab those noodles x its really busy sometimes so there might be a bit of a wait but the food is worth the wait ;)
Steven Gu
Chop shop Korean BBQ. Popular Korean BBQ shop and open in Melbourne. Beef is normal and nothing special. A bit smoky environment and I don't really enjoy the staying there.
Kristine Doan
The food is quite good and also with an affordable price!
Its perfect for a date night !!!
Great deals!
With many of my fav meats: pork belly, spicy marinated beef , beef brisket;...
But no more bibimbap in the new menu !!! 👏
Mangodanto
I ordered the sizzling beef dish with rice - to my surprise it was a beef patty. Was expecting at least real meat... would not recommend, but their service is pretty nice... maybe i'll try something different next time.
Panha Kim
Positive-

-Nice decor
-give you lots of kimchi (which I like)
-good food but the beef bulgogi was just a bit sweet for me

Negative-

-no side dish

Overall I would come back again
MVP
Let's start with the positives. I'm not gonna lie chop shop as a venue has a very pleasing look. It's like a mix of neon and 80's video game style, it's as if u walked into a old school arcade video game that you have to eat your way out of!!!

Ok onto the eating. It's not exactly my fave style of Korean food but for what it is, they have definitely chopped my shop. I had three chops. One chop was a soup based dish, the second was chicken sizzler, and the third was a kimochi pancake. The pancake was fluffy, and made me feel good. The chicken was hot, and the meat was tender, quite a nice feeling when I ripped it off the plate, which it was stuck to. The soup was very creamy, and also light. What a juxtaposition of flavours I had. All this undr the neon lit barber sign "chop shop", all the atmosphere to soak in.

Also points for metallic cups, which when u add ice to them, have a glacier type quality, kind of like the kind of coldness you'd catch off a block from the iceberg that stuck the rms titanic.

Good locations, and good feels.

Might give you, a round 2 ;)
Sabby
Loved how there were Korean waiters and waitresses + chefs, and just a comment ok the interior decor- really lovely. The upstairs room to dine in was chic and trendy, and the area had plenty of BBQ grills.

The 반상 sets along with the 밥 weren't amazing. As a modern addition to Korean cuisine, this restaurant could probably improve on overall flavour. The side dishes really are modernised, and don't hold and appeals to nostalgia- a great western influence has made the side dishes seem non-Korean almost.
Soju Yeo
I tried Kimchi noodle soup and it is really nice with reasonable price. I would like to come back later to try other dish as well maybe bbq.
David
We had a couple dishes off their a la carte menu instead of Korean BBQ. The food portions were disappointingly small - the kimichi stew and tteokbokki were essentially the size of entrees while the beef bulgogi had a tiny serving of meat. While the tteokbokki was alright, the pork kimichi stew had almost no pork or tofu.

Service here was very VERY slow and inattentive. We had to call multiple times before we could get the attention of the wait staff despite the place not being full.

Overall, very underwhelmed by the food and service here, especially in regards to how much food you get for the prices you pay.
Jeanette Phan
The first time I ever came to this restaurant I loved it. It was probably one of my favourite korean BBQ places within the CBD. I found their atmosphere, food and service excellent.
Returning back, I was first surprised to see their layout change. My guess is that they wanted to fit in more tables. However by doing so everything feels very tight and you don't get that same atmospheric value.
What put me off most was their service. The waitress was so rude. We ordered rice but they forgotten about that. When we called her over she didn't say anything but frown at us. She then gave us one bowl of rice. We told her we ordered three so she stormed off and came back, chucking us the remaining bowls. We had also noticed that they had forgotten one of our dishes. Since the same waitress was around we kindly asked her. She didn't say anything but frown again. I found this so rude because it wasn't our fault but it was beginning to feel like it was due to her lack of communication and poor service. She then walked off and called another person to serve us. It turns out that they hadn't even put the dish down on the docket... Overall I would not be returning back.

Before I begin...SOJU IS ONLY $7.50 A BOTTLE HERE.

Came here on a Sunday after a movie at around 940pm.
It was suprisingly busy. The barrel seats act as a container for your clothing and bag which is a very nice idea. More places should have bag and jacket holders.

Our water cups weren't clean but a quick change solved that.

We weren't that hungry so only ordered an army stew plus an instant noodle and also a seafood pancake

The stew was quite nice with a lot of ingredients. Can feed two to three people easy. A lot of spam and tofu! Perfect on a winter night. Adding the noodle made it a lot better and the soup with that goes perfectly.

I would say the stew itself is better than average.

A waitress came over mid meal to help serve our stew and noodles. Good service. Was not expecting this.

Didn't take a photo of the pancake because absolutely demolished that. Nice chunks of octopus or squid and also vegetables. One of the better pancakes.

BTW did I mention SOJU is only $7.50 ??

Mustard
Didn't have Korean BBQ here because we didn't want to smell and they also had no vents (our clothes ended up stinking anyway). We ordered various items which all came out at nearly the same time. I don't usually make a big fuss on service as I'm used to basic service but we had to call the waiter several of times. We realised that our scissors were dirty, we weren't served a soup ladle and soup bowls. Basic attention to detail that should be standard.
Besides the service we got no banchan, maybe that was for only people eating BBQ. The tteokbokki with cheese was nice and firey, they should sell this as a street food during winter. Awesome. The seafood pancake was a bit sloppy but still nice around the edges. Chicken bulgogi was also nice but was ordinary sharing with friends because it came as a single serving. The beef and mushroom soup however was overly salty, don't think we boiled it for that long. The addition of ramen to it was nice but it also had sweet potato noodles already in the soup.
The owner came and spoke to us after the meal but we were reserved in our feedback. It's a lovely multilevel space and is much bigger than it looks from the outside.

A sister branch to Oppa Kitchen, Chop Shop Korean BBQ is just a few stores down from Oppa Kitchen. Chop Shop Korean BBQ specialises in Korean BBQ, however they do have some lunch specials other than BBQ.

We arrived on a weekday at around 4pm. We were so hungry and were craving Korean food. The service was very poor as we waited and waved for about 5-10 minutes to get the waiters attention.

The food arrived soon after we had ordered. We had the Spicy Cold Buckwheat Noodles with Grilled Beef and the Salmon Rice. The food was delicious and the meat was very tender.

Despite the service, we would hopefully come back to try their speciality, Korean BBQ.
Neath Kong
The food is average, a good place to fill your hunger between your school hours. The service was very very friendly, too. I was a bit running out of time to try their bbq and hot pot but I will definitely come back to try them
S
Service was slow, food came out slow, stingy on the side dishes. Sooo average. Cool decor though. Wasn't full after eating one of the BBQ set.

Staff friendly here, but I was extremely underwhelmed by the food here. I haven't had Korean BBQ before so I can't say much but it was really nothing special
Linnie Eats All The Food
Mr D and I haven’t been around in the CBD in a while and we needed to refuel before we hit the town for some drinkies. Walking down Swanston street, we eyed Chop Shop and of course Mr D is all for Korean and this place promised Modern KBBQ. We skipped inside and since it was only 5:30PM on a Saturday night (yep, we eat at elderly people time) there weren’t a lot of customers around. We snagged a table at the far corner and BAM, drinkies were in order! I had a lychee cider and it came out in such a cutie patootie cup! ARGH! Look how cute!!
Loky To
Came here after my exam. I was originally on my way to another kbbq joint but saw this one and decided to give it a go.
It was absolutely delicious. I had pork belly and marinated spicy chicken. Both delicious and the dipping sauces were so nice.
10/10 would recommend
2wo Fat Girls
Relatively new Korean BBQ joint with a relatively clean, spacious interior spanning multiple stories. Overall, decent portion size if you take into account the sides and degree of fullness but overpriced considering that the quantity of the meat was very minimal and flavours were a bit one-sided and unpalatable.
I'm Hungry
Had korean bbq here, food was good, staff were lovely and the place was designed really well. A little pricey but would definitely come back!
Ammi
I ordered the pork bbq set $59, too bad, poor service and poor quality. I will never go back there again, definitely not worth it. Many better places in the CBD with this price.
Sarah
I actually quiet liked it here as it had decent food. I order the pork set and the price was very reasonable only at $39 considering that kbbq r quiet expensive at like around$60 or more. It came with 2 bowls of rice, the meat and a soup. I thought the soup would be larger but it's quiet little but great for an appetiser. However my soup came later when the meat was already cooked which was consider a disappointment bc my sister and I were hungry.
The staff workers were alright, nothing special and same with the kitchen workers. DEFINATELY only suggesting that u come with a friend because the seats r very tight and small and I have no idea how a group can manage to have a seat.
There was an upstairs area but I didn't get to have a look. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT was how there wasn't a vent or fan to get rid of the smoke because my eyes got rrly irritated bc the front door was opened and it was windy making the smoke go into my eyes. However the food just fit exactly to a serving of 2 but not sure about people with a big appetite. Also, no vegetables were provided only side dishes:(

Service was ok. I came here for lunch and I had the beef rib bansang which was good but my friend's bulgogi bansang was too sweet. Pricewise was alright for the lunch deal. Might give the bbq a try one day.

Had Korean BBQ after my movie session, it's great that these Korean restaurant opens till quiet late~
The meat here was great and so were the side dishes except I thought it would have been better if I could do the BBQ myself instead of a different staff every minute to keep turning the meat when it's not ready...
Other than that great service ~

Came here for both lunch and dinner before, staff doesn't talk much, just nodded after we placed our order and came back with our food shortly afterwards. Compared to other KBBQ places we've been to, we do a lot of cooking our own meat here which isn't a problem at all! Meat is nicely season, electric grill. Interior is very cute. Would come back for sure!

✅ Was really impressed by Chop Shop. We tried the combination set menu which allowed us to try the beef, pork and chicken. The chicken had quite a bit of kick to it.
✅ You get unlimited side dishes, which are all fresh and tasty.
✅ I always worry about my clothes smelling after Korean BBQ, however, this didn't happen — they also have storage in their chairs to stop any smells attaching to your coat!
⚠️ The price is a little high but it's a nice setting.
#1) WORST SERVICE EVER! DO NOT GO, RUN FAR FAR AWAY

Sat down and ordered, food comes out had to ask several time for water, dipping sauce didn't come out.**** NOW get ready for this.... while eating one of the servers emptying charcoal while I am eating and the ash goes into water, food, my hair and all my clothing. Asked for the manager to come with a resolution which was "a soft drink". WTH! Not even sorry from the manager, so I am writing this while eating. Was going to order more and promote this place but now, 100% boycotting this place. Moving on to

2)FOOD, HEALTH & SAFETY, meat was not even cooking because they ran out of gas.... so while I am eating half roar and half cooked. Asked for replacement! BBQ area is filthy and worried about it.

This is only my first experience and will be my last as the SERVICE WAS POOR AND ASKED FOR THE MANAGER and did not even come, instead hiding away.

Been here for 6 times but really really disappointed this time because the quantity of meat we order really less not like before anymore. As usual we order BBQ set for 2 people for dinner. Is less more then half. Won't be back anymore.

Walk in at a Friday night. Ordered the $59 BBQ pork set. Have to say it's a pretty average meal. Great location in the central of Melb cbd. Just there's too many other better option.

great! it's cheap, it's good and i love the design of the place. there's like 2 people who work on the upper level and when you press the buzzer they don't come but it's fine. the food here is delicious and the set meals for 2 are so cheap!! definitely will be back.

Went here for dinner, last night! We had the mixed meat bbq set (this includes: chicken, beef, pork meat , kimchi soup and steam eggs) as well as seafood pancake. The pork belly was too thick, service was alright. Beef and Kimchi soup was Amazing!

Solid place for lunch. Came here with a friend and we ordered off the Bansang menu. We ordered the beef short rib and pork belly with kimchi. Both were delicious. Meat was soft and fell off the bone (beef rib). Highly recommend this place for a nice lunch and at $15, it's affordable and definitely worth a try. Will be back soon to try there BBQ menu

The food is what you’d expect from the other korean BBQs around the place, but what really gave this place the extra points for me was being able to chill and enjoy myself while not being gassed by the BBQ smoke😚.

Been here several times. The Bbq menu was great, especially the pork. Meat were juicy and flavorful at the same time. With both friendly and quick service. Highly recommended for korean bbq lovers

Excellent food and service. We ordered the pork set (the menu is slightly different now) which consists of the pork jowl, pork belly, and marinated pork neck with spicy sauce, as well as many other things that were included. All of the pork was very rich in flavour and juicy. The food that came with the set was tasty too. The pork set for 2 was more than enough for us, as we leave here with a happy full stomach everytime. They even throw in free durian flavoured ice cream stick if you order the set (which taste so good and i don't even like durian). Have eaten here several time since then, and ordered chop shop sliced pork belly, which is equally as good. Strongly recommended and will be eating here again soon!

What a great KBBQ on Swanston st.
I have been chop shop by chance and I wasn't really expected the BBQ out of my place. However, From the entrance, all the staff warmly greeted to my family.
Pork belly set was awesome. Recommended how to wrap with pickled radish and well cooked pork belly. Yummm...
When we finished, one more surprised omg!! icecream.
I will try lunch next time. And defiantly back soon!!!

Actually I love beef, when I went there I felt tasty and very good at pork. Staffs were really kind when their busy. And I ordered seafood pancake. Their prices was suitable. I want to recommend to my friends. ^^
Thanks for good service and yammy. I love it.

Really poor and slow service. From waiting to get a table through to getting a meal. 10 minutes after sitting down the waitress came with the bottle of water however didn't bring any cups which came after 20mins. The food was also very late.
When it finally came, the dishes were of very small portions. It was ok however until I found a hair in my food. Needless to say I left straight away and had to get something else to eat.
Never going back.
The newly opened Chop Shop brings about a new challenger in Melbourne's KBBQ scene. We came here on NYE and was warmly welcomed and seated by their friendly manager. We ordered the combination set which came swiftly. The meats were delicious and flavoursome with the waiters kindly assisting us whilst the meat is cooking. The side dishes were unique as it came with a clay pot kind of steamed egg which was delicious.
Overall recommend Chop Shop and would definitely come back again to satisfy our KBBQ cravings!!

The bbq meats quality are great, but the portion is really small compared to other korean bbq joints around the city, and make sure u stay away from the raw meat salad, we all got food poisoning from it
Recently opened Korean joint. Went there for lunch and prices are average. Nice music and steel tables. Friendly service and the dish comes out pretty fast. Bulgogi rice is made just right and seasoned well. Fluffy rice and perfectly poached egg. Portion is small for its price, and not enough rice to have with the bulgogi.

Overall, great taste but lacked portioning and no water given

------
1/12/17

Tried the korean bbq and the sides that come with the bbq are well worth the cost for $49. Comes with lots of sides and refillable fishcakes. Small spicy noodles are quite large and cheap. Oyster blade is tender and beef bulgogi is average. Spicy pork belly is thin cut
