Me Dee is a stalwart in Chinatown, well-known and well-loved for its affordable and delicious Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai and the Boat Noodles are extremely popular here, as are the curries and the rice dishes. Flavours are bold and punchy, and perfectly showcase the combination of sweet, zesty, spicy and savoury flavours that Thai cuisine is so famous for.
And if you didn’t know, they also specialised in Thai desserts. Some common ones that you can get from the Asian groceries, some not so common ones that will delight your taste buds. Amazing in taste and execution, definitely worth checking out.
My score 4.0 stars. J got takeaway from here on Wed 15th Jan. Service was lovely, food tasty, good value for money. We shared:
Kaow prig kang ($12) – Fried egg, rice, nice tofu, green beans and chilli. Good!
Chicken satay ($8) – 4 skewers plus spicy peanut sauce. Not an expert on these anymore, but they were the best ones (inc sauce) I have had in I don’t know how long…
Vego panang curry ($12) – Lots of nice tofu, plus some carrot and plenty of rice (which had a hard boiled egg with it). Good spicy curry sauce. Only criticism would be it could do with a bit more veg (but it was generous with the tofu – so swings and roundabouts).
Paramount Food Court is a little bit of a hidden treasure trove of Thai street eats.
Stopped at Me Dee for their boat noodles.
It’s typically a small serving. The broth is sweet, aniseedy, rich and iron-ey.
The slivers of pork and liver are tasty, and the noodles have a perfect bite to it.
Pretty satisfying and at a good price point too.
Ordered the beef noodle soup (no 1) and tom yum noodle soup (no 4) for lunch. Only $9 per bowl which was super cheap. You also get to choose what type of noodle you want, there's 4 options ranging from thin to thick noodle. The tom yum was pretty spicy, but both noodle soups tasted really nice, probably one of the better flavours I've tasted. Portion size is ok for a girl, but may not be enough for guys. Would come back here again.
Needed to make a fast choice, as we were in the area with a starving toddler and needed to get something that he’d want to eat (and us too!) - happy we made the right choice here. We got a massamun curry and a pad see ew. Both were very good examples of the dish - maybe not mind blowing, but a great value lunch option. Cash only though, and a bit tricky to get to when the line for the place next to it blows out.
This place is a true gem. So many Thai customers and I was surprised the shop owner knows I’m Thai even though I haven’t said anything and am technically 100% ethnically Chinese.
They have an wide variety of menus from the basic and popular Gra Pao to the more homely and harder to find ones like Kanom Jeen and Kao Pud Pratoo.
The best thing about this place is its price!! Starting from 6 dollars with the whole fish with rice for 15 dollars!!
Food is fast and good sizable portion and as it is in a food court there’s plenty of seats.
I had the ข้าวผัดน้ำพริกปลาทู it was simple but so yummy, authentic and taste exactly like home! Provided with the cucumber, boiled eggs and clear soup too!! Very impressed. Definitely my new favorite Thai restaurant in the city. Cannot believe I have never heard of it earlier.
Super underrated Thai place in Melbourne. Best boat noodle in Melbourne yes better than soi38!!! Price =5 stars
Taste = 5 stars
NOTE!! CASH ONLY!
Would highly recommend have so many authentic dishes not seen in other restaurants!!! Might need a Thai friend as the menu isn't always in perfect translation... or just be adventurous!!
If you ask me where you can savour an authentic Thai Boat Noodles, Here it is! Me Dee is located in Food Court of Paramount Retail Center. The ambience here might not impress you for the first time but you will love their noodles as I do! Their soup reminds me of the feeling when I was having boat noodles in Thailand. They serve the noodles in two sizes, small for $6 and large for $9, what a worthy! And you can make a choice between beef and pork. They normally serve the noodles (no matter you order beef or pork) with pork cracking which I love the most. In case you don't want it just let them know.
P.S. My fav is tender slow cooked beef ❤️
Boat beef noodle soup! Noodle with mix beef topping. Large size~ the soup really nice and tasty! And the price really reasonable for large! The beef is tender too. Unfortunately cash only :(

Me Dee is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants back in the day. It used to be very popular. Recently ordered green curry and crispy pork gra pao and some desserts. They were veey delicious and authentic.
This is one of those hidden gems in Melbourne. Secreted deep in the Paramount food court, this unassuming little food stall has pretty authentic Thai cuisine.
Its boat noodles can give Jinda Thai's version a run for its money.
I had the Pad Thai with chicken today and it was deeply satisfying. Freshly fried rice noodles with their magical sauce, served with chunks of chicken and a handful of raw bean sprouts with a side of peanuts - party in my mouth!
I also bought some Thai style banana fritters and fried sweet potatoes. They were crispy and moorish.
You know it's a special place when the majority of their customers are Thai people. Can't wait to try every single item on their menu!
Paramount food court, dated and a majority of the stores have not rotated out in forever. Then there's Me Dee dishing up some mean boat noodles, $6 for small, $9 for large.
Rich and murky, sweet and beefy, no complaints here it is a quality broth. I got the pork version and it came with slices of pork, meatballs, delicious liver and scratchings which clung onto your teeth. One of my favourite boat noodles in Melbourne and very accessible and affordable, this can easily become my regular.
We also got some satay chicken skewers to share, the chicken was tender and the raw onions gave it a good acidic sharpness and crunch.
So much more to try, I hear they do a decent oyster omelette also.
Definitely 'best real Thai food in town'. Since I've found this place I haven't gone to any other Thai restaurants in the city. This is the most authentic affordable Thai food I've found in Melbourne so far.
Do not underestimate this food court restaurant. I think they are really good. Had their duck noodle and guay jabb. Very simple dish with amazing flavour. I enjoyed every sip of the soup, it has a strong savoury flavour and a little bit of sweetness. Also enjoyed every piece of the duck meat, so tender. Be careful with the chillies, they’re very hot. Do try their iced Thai tea, very milky, thick and refreshing. This place is great if you’re looking for authentic Thailand street food.
Food tastes really authentic - tried the papaya salad and sticky rice with taro. The queue can belong during lunch hour... the only downside was there was no English on some menu- so I order food by looking and picture and asking... but given the food quality and cheap price — no complain
The food is so good here. Authentic as it can be. My go to place whenever I want to eat the guay chap as the other Thai restaurants don’t seem to serve this dish. One of the only places in Melbourne that I’ll say serves simple delicious authentic Thai meals
A well above average Thai food vendor in Paramount food court. I normally come here just for their fried bananas but occasionally do sit down like today for their meals. I had chicken kra pao which was yummy and full of flavours. Tho it was slightly more watery than other pad kra pao from other places. They also serve it with eggs which is great.
I love No.3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With egg noodle.
I really love your food and reasonable price even sometimes I got food poisoning. I visit here every week. Hehe see u this week.
Found a little gem tucked among Food Court vendors in Paramount. Tried the Stir fry pork with garlic and oyster sauce. Really tasty. Sometimes you just want to eat something very salty and punchy. This was it for me. Pork was tender. Love the sweet potato fritter. Crunchy and not too sweet.
Located in a food court, hard to try it unless I got my friend who've tried here before.
They had lots of dishes than I expected, we ordered Pad see ew which is my steady order dish, Fried-rice with crab which is my friends favorite, and Ka nom jeen which i heard is nice when I was traveling Thailand.
The foods came out in order, so It took a bit long time to get all but its not a big restaurant which has a big kitchen, so was fine.
First we got Fried-rice with crab. fried nice, like the flavour, but just i felt shells of crab with it, was bit uncomfortable.
Pad see ew was nice as well. Had big prawns and flavour was good.
The last one Ka nom jeen, it had thin noodles with fish curry sauce and fish cakes and some veges.
It taste similar to Korean kimchi soup with tuna.
All dishes were great and I love here cuz they have various thai dishes, not only usual ones.
I will try Kao soi in here which is my favorite but hard to find outside of northern Thailand.
Cheap. Delicious and very authentic. As everyone else has mentioned the ambience is not amazing, however I felt like it even enhanced the experience more given it felt like we were really eating in Asia. Tom yum was super spicy!
This is one of those secret unassuming places that initially screams dodgy food court fare but is almost too good to be true for the prices. Definitely the go to place for authentic Thai food on a budget. It gives some other well known $10 boat noodle venues a very good run for its money. Dare I say better for only $9 for a larger , more tasty serve. You cannot go past the Tom yum soup noodles & there stir fried pork & rice dishes with a fried egg . Crazy good Thai food ridiculously cheap & lovely service to match.
Used to our go-to Thai in Springvale, glad we found it again after it's moved to CBD. Very authentic Thai flavours. Their tomyum here is an instant cold remedy, you can ask for plain soup without noodles. Food court setting isn't the best ambience and you gotta self-service, but food is so good we don't care.
food was tasty with reasonable price but it could be better if they put less msg. Service was good (not much to review though). So I recommend this restaurant if you're not fuzz with msg.
Food court dining- slower than some of the other options, but delicious and authentic Thai food. Curries are around $12 and come with rice. Fried banana $5. Pretty good option overall.
Best boat noodle and Tomyum noodle was veryyyyy tasty. I often went with friends, they really like to have noodle with this restaurant!! Wanna have it now.
One of the first choice for my quick cheap eating out. The taste is like what they said, is quite similar to eating street food in Thailand. I recommend trying boat noodle or kuay jub. For the Esan food(North eastern Thai dishes like Somtum, papaya salad etc) would say just average for me. Service was average.
Me Dee is one of the best places in Melbourne to get the closest-to-authentic (I am Thai myself) Thai boat noodles at a price that will barely trigger the hip-pocket nerve. The staff here are evidently Thai, and are generally friendly during busier times. Highly recommended for people wanting a quick, tasty meal of good quality. Make sure you can handle spice, though!
Fell in love with the Springvale branch of Me Dee. Was super excited that one was opened in the CBD. Quality Thai food at such cheap prices; dishes from as little as $6. Absolutely love it, the food court setting isn't too bad.
BEST THAI BOAT NOODLES + Lovely Service!!
Both the beef and pork boat noodles at Me Dee is super delicious. The broth is very rich while the noodles were chewy. It's only $6 for a small bowl or $9 for standard, and you can add extra noodles for $1. The lady at the counter is ultra nice and pays attention to details. I asked if my meat could be fully cooked, and she was very nice about it. She even remembered the next time I visited! They also sell freshly made chilli paste $5, which is delicious (I like the one with anchovies), and shall also a range of Thai desserts. Lots of Thais come to this place so I guess it's a good indicator of how authentic it is!! :)
Located in the food court of an old and run-down shopping centre in Chinatown, it's not that easy to find unless you work in the area or have been there before. I dropped by to try their boat noodle soup and it's available in small ($6) or large bowl ($9). I had the large one and it was so good. The only flaw was that the soup lacked depth and I could mostly only taste sweetness. The braised beef tasted good but some of the brisket they gave was too fatty. Nonetheless it was still a nice treat. A real cheap and satisfying meal in the heart of CBD! Will return to try the other popular dishes on the menu and bring friends there so we can order more items to share.
This place offers pretty authentic thai food. I had the small boat noodle here to gove it a try and it is on point. Havent had many other dishes but will definately come back for a large boat noodle next time.
Tastes like Thai food in Thailand, and is priced cheaper than other Thai restaurants in Melbourne. If we're ever in the city of the weekend, my Thai wife always wants to eat here. I can't think of any higher praise than this. We typically have the boat noodles or guay jub - which are both good - and we haven't ventured into the rice dishes.
This place is somehow famous among thai expats in the cbd. The food is nice but i think its slightly expensive for some dishes. But the boat noodle is exceptional. I never had this dish before. But i can safely say that my pho days are over. This is the new kid in town. Amazing broth
Sensational Thai. It's seriously amazing. The flavours are bold and the balance of spicy, sweet, and sour is perfect. I'm genuinely intending to work my way through the menu. The minced pork with chilli and rice with egg is amazing, as is the #12 on the menu which I think is stir fried pork in a garlic and pepper sauce. Me Dee is hidden away and well worth hunting out. In my view, this is the best Thai in Melbourne.
Yummmm! I love Me Dee! I've been to the Springvale store several times and I'm so glad theres a store closer! Boat noodles and fish maw soup are my two absolute fave dishes. Super tasty and flavoursome. It's extremely hard to find authentic thai street food and at Me Dee you truly feel like you're back in Thailand eating from a street vendor.
I have to say I've been somewhat disappointed with budget Thai food in Melbourne. Aside from Richmond's popular Jinda Thai and the ISpicy franchise, much of what we get here is often pedestrian and bland (sickly sweet red curries, anyone?) and generally pales in comparison with the thousands of excellent authentic and cheap Thai restaurants in Sydney. It was therefore with some excitement that I spied Me Dee Thai restaurant buried deep in the Paramount Apartments' ageing food court. It seemed to have all the makings of an authentic Thai place, with its garish fluorescent hawker-style food signs and slightly dingy surroundings with a mostly Thai clientele (always good signs when it comes to Asian restaurants). Dishes were around the $11-12 mark and ranged from stir-fries with rice to your usual soup and fried noodles. I ordered the spicy "Sukiyaki" stir-fried noodles with seafood, which is a popular dish in Thailand. Impressive. The flavor-packed vermicelli noodles were topped with ample amounts of fresh seafood, fishballs and morning glory. My only minor criticism was that they overdid it a little with the sukiyaki sauce so it tended towards the gluggy side, but it definitely had lots of chilli kick and most importantly, tasted authentic. Price-wise, it was a little expensive at $12 for a small dish (we're looking at Thai hawker-sized servings here) but I had no complaints. I would be interested in returning to try their other dishes as they have some interesting rarer dishes like guay jab and fish maw soup and various kinds of som tum (salad) with sticky rice. 4/5 for me, but that's based on 1 dish alone.
The tastes was real original Thai food compared with other Thai food in CBD Melbourne. The cash was cheaper than I think before. The pork wasn't bad smell liked a pork in any CBD market. Yeah, I love it. It seems to be a source of foodstuffs in my life at Melbourne.
Caution!! Beware of spice.
Ordered the boat noodle soup, guay jab, pad Thai prawn and pad saew ; food is authentic and just tasty. It does get busy and waiting in line can be long but food is fast once ordered . Would go back ! Portion should be bigger though , haha I love my thai food.
The real thing!. Wow! This restaurant is one of an extremely small number of Thai restaurants in Melbourne that serve the real thing. อาหารที่แท้จริง Amazing. A+
Me Dee would easily rate as my favourite casual Thai eatery in Melbourne, and I have tried more than my fair share over the years. Having shopped in Springvale with my Thai wife most weekends for over two decades, Me Dee had become a regular choice for a quick lunch before heading home to cook up a storm with all the specialty Asian ingredients available in the area.
08-JUL-15 : I absolutely love Guay Jub! It's not an easy dish to find in Melbourne. Probably because not too many can stomach the thought of a dish with pig blood, liver, stomach and intestine among it's ingredients. Me Dee does it well and takes me back to the streets in Bangkok!
CBD take on Me Dee (Paramount Mall, Bourke St). Recommended to me by a diner who enjoys the Springvale shop.
Not disappointed, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Fish Maw soup on the menu. Satisfied, and will return soon for my Grapow Moo Grob!!
Beautiful Thai food at good prices !. Pitty they aren't open on the Monday!
Service is average.
Fresh tasty Thai food that iant overpriced...
Thumbs up for this place..
This restaurant in Paramount food court is a popular hangout and in my opinion lives up to their motto of "The Best Real Thai Food in Town". Their boat noodles remains a favourite of ours. All of the food we ordered tasted very nice indeed. Plenty of free seats when we visited
Stopped by for a simple, cheap and quick lunch. Excellent food. Service good, very fresh and full of flavour. Would highly recommend.
Fell in love with Thai food when I was pregnant and since then always came back because the food is soooo good. They do a lovely "ochien" or Oyster omelette that is very similar to the ones you can get in Malaysia. Had the roast pork egg noodles and the crispy roast pork with veggies and Fried egg on rice. Looking for legit spicy, legit Thai food in Melbourne, visit Paramount Mall on Bourke Street. It's also more affordable than other Thai restaurants in Melbourne.
The best place for delicious, authentic Thai at reasonable prices. Can't get enough!! My friend introduced me to them a few years ago and since then, i've been eating my regular there almost every other day. I love the egg noodles with roast pork (#13) with a helping of the delicious chilli vinegar at the front. A++
Simply delicious authentic Thai food. No bells and whistles, just tasty food! I love their boat noodle soup, pork belly with chilli & basil. Just to mention a few 😊👌🏻
Nice taste and size
Boat soup base is richly favored
Reasonable price
when i crave for thai food, i always go to this place.
I like som tum and thai food here
