😱Lizzie’s first impression: Although I ordered it through deliveroo the meal deserves a review as I absolutely loved it.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I loved how they hand make their noodles and you can really taste the quality of it. It’s perfect and al dente. They even let you select the size you want your noodles too. The soup is amazing - a little spicy but not too strong that you can’t finish the meal. The "you po" noodles, aka oil poured over the noodles is absolutely delicious - a vagrant yet spicy dry style noodle.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the beef they use is a little chewy but overall a great meal to have on a cold winters day!
🥇Lizzie rates overall: very popular place and definitely deserves a shout out as they do such great noodle soups.
Very large portions. I like how the noodles can be customised, the soup is very flavourful. I would recommend the soup noodles over the thicker broth one (idk what it is called)
Fresh noodles in piping hot broth. Enjoyable experience and perect spot next to Melbourne Uni
Love the noodles and the broth is amazing! Best comfort food ❤️ highly recommend 👌
Service was very good and the food is very nice and comforting. Will be back again after uni starts again!!
Really loved the noodles, so tender :)
Amazing hand pulled noodles just like the ones in Beijing!! If you’re looking for authentic noodles come to this restaurant!!
love the beef noodles here
Cheap and cheerful big portions
It's super slick, very efficient, nicely decked out - and signature beef noodle soup is excellent. Slightly more expensive than most ($13.50) but huge amount of home-made noodles, lots of beef and the soup itself is excellent. I'll be back!
Popped in on a Friday lunchtime and was seated and served very promptly without feeling rushed. I got the classic beef noodle soup as I haven’t had this type of soup before and it was tasty, sort of like a more beef-y tasting pho with a Chinese twist. I added a dash of vinegar to mine (not sure if this is against common practice but it really amped up the flavour for me!) Noodles were good quality.
Quick and simple to eat in 🌶️
Very delicious! We’ll be coming back for more.
Yummy noodles, self service is quick, and authentic flavours
Best noodles in Melbourne
I love noodle soup & cold potato
The beef noodle is so yum. The spiciness is just perfect. the noodle has perfect texture and softness. The wide range of side dishes is great. I love the fungus and pickled cucumbers. My friend loves the pig ear. the dining area is clean. first choice to go each time shopping at QV market.
This was my first time having hand made and fresh made noodles. I did not know what to expect. I really was excited to go there. This restaurant is located on Elizabeth street, very near to the tram stop. When you enter the shop you see a fridge and there are many small plates kept with snacks in them. It was a bit confusing for me at first, do I need to pick a plate or not, is it included in the price or not, and everything became clear after I talked to the girl on the counter.
Love the handmade noodles, I’ve been paying with Liven to earn rewards and it’s so worth it!
delicious, genuine chinese flavour!

in 5 words: answering all your noodle cravings

Review: Lan Zhou is a well oiled restaurant machinery. Here’s how it works: You queue, you pick your drink / additional chinese delicacies and when you reach the counter, you pick your noodles.
I was vegetarian here (can’t eat beef) so I had the youpo noodles which was essentially thick noodles! The sauce was a good concoction of vinegar, hot chilli oil and your usual array of soy sauces. What won me over was the noodle texture - it was thick without being too chewy. The noodles also soaked up all the sauce - which made ever mouthful quite addictive. My only gripe was the price ($12) which was slightly higher for a non-meat dish.
This place is highly recommended for quick meals. I also love how clean and organised the place was. They are also occasionally on @grouponau so be on the lookout for that!

The place is clean and comfortable.
The taste is nice!
The service was very fast, like a fast food stall but the food was well prepared and presented. At first we thought the food was a bit plain but the more we tried, the harder it is to resist. We ordered 2 signature dishes, the soup and the dry one (sorry ai forgot the name). For dry dishes, should not choose noodle thicker than “Thick” size as the sauces would not stick to the noodles as much. For soup dishes, we chose thin and it was suitable for us. As we can ear spicy, the taste was okay. However, if you’re not sure, ask them for less spicy. We even signed up for membership and got a free plum juice drink, which was sour and cleansed the oily and spicy taste. Would definitely coming back for more.
4.5
Came in after lunch hours so there were almost no one else in the shop. The place itself has quite a few seats, pretty well kept though could be cleaner. The staff were nice and food came out quick.
The Youpo noodle was amahzing, the noodle itself was just the right chewiness and cooked perfectly. The sauce itself was really yummy, bit oily but so good (requested less spicy). I do think it does go down better with soup.
Tendon beef noodle soup (non spicy) was also really yummy. Got the thin (3mm) noodle and it was the perfect choice, again amazing texture and the beef itself was generous and soft and flavourful. The soup was clear but has the right amount of flavour with some radishes and spring onions.
Also got the plum tea for free, as we became member and it was pretty refreshing, sweet and sour. though it was bit of a shame that they're already prepackaged.
Overall, a solid place for some yummy handmade chinese noodles in town!
( follow for more!)
xx,joelle.
Friendly staff, good noodles.
Environment friendly ,best location and very easy for people want to have Chinese food . Drinks also nice and music is always fansionable
great noodles and very authentic noodles with small dishes. The price is very reasonable and taste is fantastic!
Very good value for money!
Reasonable price. Good taste.
love the beef noodles soup here! would definitely come again!
Went here using Groupon. I enjoyed the beef noodle soup. They were nice. And it’s definitely worth it using Groupon offer. I could be back sometime in future
Love the food! The homemade noodles are great on a cold day and the condiments are wonderful too. The potato side dish is also very tasty. I also like the plum juice. Service is speedy if not at times a bit abrupt. Cramped and crowded but the fact that you still get seated in no time is a plus.
Amazing food and service!
great food, friendly staff, would like to recommend
Total score 4.5 stars. Loses half a point for having really tight and mainly communal seating. Came for lunch on Friday and was so pleased with how fast I was served and then delivered my noodles.
I tried the braised beef noodle soup with 'thin' noodle size and all the toppings (coriander, onion, chilli, radish). Broth was flavourful and had the perfect amount of savoury and spicy flavour. Noodles were chewy and hearty and the serving was huge. Braised beef was as sift and tender as you'd expect, the nice surprise was just how much beef was in this $13 bowl! As mentioned, seating is tight, so I was smooshed between a few strangers, but everyone is in the same boat, we're just here for the food. Staff were friendly and helpful, although I didn't see the manager man directing traffic as others had described
Great food, special recipes, and nice services.
Good food and friendly staff. Would like to come again.
Great and pleasant service. Amazing food and friendly people to service. I always had the Lanzhou noodle and the plum food. Everything was amazing . Would love to come back again
The best beef noodles ever! Meat is tender and definitely will be back!
So far, the best beef noodle soup had in Melbourne! Their braised beef is super tender.
Soup taste delicious. Noodle is not over cooked. Service is also very good and they are very polite and place is very clean. Overall very very good
Very tasty and authentic, it’s probably the best Lanzhou noodle I have had in Melbourne. The price is quite reasonable and the location is convenient, pretty much close to everything, just in Melbourne CBD.
The food here is the bomb! Their homemade drinks are not too bad either. The handmade beef noodle soup is my fav. Followed by the severely underrated youpo noodles. The beef was tender and delicious and the soup was tasty without reeking of msg. I like the fact that you can choose your own noodles. I always go for the thickest ones as they give the best bite and texture to mouth feel ratio. The youpo noodles are dry and tossed in sauce. Just enough for you to acknowledge the star of the meal, which is the noodles.
Great value Groupon deal for $9 for a steamy bowl of beef soup and hand pulled noodles. There isn’t much service here but the noodles were chewy and springy and the beef very tender. We went at about 9pm and all the side dishes were discounted at $2 each although they had already sold out of the noodle soup with the beef cubes! Would visit again earlier to try the other beef noodle soup.
Really nice noodles and food vegan options which is nice and good service nice Lemin water
One of the best beef noodle in Melbourne. There are varieties of noodle to be chosen. It’s located in the food court in the glen shopping centre, so it’s very convenient.
I came on weekdays with family. This is the best real hand make noodle I never had before. Nice and simple. That’s what I need.
4.5 With an almost irresistible aroma wafting around each of their stores, Lanzhou Beef Noodle Bar has been on our to-do for a long time, and boy are we glad we did!
From the beautifully hand made noodles, flavourful broth, quality beef, efficient service and affordable price point, this is definitely a must try for those craving something quick and warm.
Yummy noodles! Great place for family and friends. The spicy braised beef noodles is my favourite and it’s not very spicy for the non spicy lovers.
This is an excellent place if you are looking for a quick, affordable and satisfying meal. Noodles here are pulled to order and there are options for the thickness, width and shape. There are a few different options but we usually order the ‘Lanzhou beef noodles’ with the wider or thicker noodles as we like the texture but this is up to personal preference of course. The noodles come with a few slices of beef and daikon and are topped with leeks, coriander and chilli oil.
We also enjoyed the vinegary wood ear fungus and even the crunchy pig ears which one of us was very apprehensive about initially.
staff are so lovely. noodle soup and beef are cooked perfectly. love to come back again. a lot of different sides to choose and they all are very nice
Great noodles! Enjoyed the special dry noodles with some chilli oil on top (not too chilli) Excellent with the cucumber side dish. the pig ear was great.
Food is absolutely amazing especially on a cold winters night !! Defs has that traditional/homy feel to it it gives in my tummy and I could eat it for days (had it twice in 1 week) !
I got the spicy raised beef and it was freaking awesome, had a small kick that sichuan/numbing spice which I just love and couldn't stop drinking the soup and it's not so over powering.
The service was really quick and the portions they gave for the price was very good. Normally Would ask for large however the one size bowl did the job for me.
recommend!
Soooooo nice on a cold night!
FOOD: We ordered the Signature Beef Noodle Soup and the Special Dry Beef Noodles! The soup was really flavourful and the chili definitely added a yummy spicy aspect to it! The beef briskets were thinner so if you like thicc beef chunks, I fully recommend the dry one because those beef chunks were amazing! They were abit skimpy on the beef but honestly, we used a groupon so it was really a bang for our buck! The portion of noodles on their own is HUGE so its definitely shareable! The dry noodles were an interesting change from the classic beef noodle soup so if you prefer more of a dry texture, I’d recommend it! The beef were really succulent and the noodles were cooked to perfection! The food is also served really quickly so if you’re in a hurry, it’s PERFECT
SERVICE: As it’s the Elizabeth Street one, you can expect alooot of people so they are basically trying to get things turnover-d quickly so don’t expect the highest quality of service but tbh, the service was still pretty good! They are attentive to food requests (which MAJOR PROPS TO THEM NOT PUTTING CORIANDER ON MY FOOD ❤️) and if you ask for things like bowls and takeaway boxes, they’ll happily pass it to you!
For $16.90 for 2 people including a soft drink is a MAJOR steal and I think for the price, the quality and portions do not undermine it! I’ll definitely return!
It's a wonderful noodles! A good environment! I and My girl friend have an excellent experience for eating noodles here! the waitresses are very nice. I will come here again for some relax time!
The noodles tasted fresh and simple where the flavours met the expectations of the dish!
It's not too spicy as well which I really enjoy and you have the option to select between 6 different kinds of noodles with no additional cost.
It seems really authentic and everything is made on the spot. The coriander was so fresh I believe they cut that when ordered, not just store it
The pork bone broth is salty and delicious, yet not too heavy. The beef broth was peppery and tantalising, yet surprisingly light. Theres a generous amount of noodles, and the meat is tender and juicy. Amazing comfort food for wet or chilly weather.
Had the spicy braised beef noodles with thicker noodles, more coriander, more leek and less oil. Mala spicy so numbing and quite spicy. Some msg but not too much.
Like the screen ordering the system which lets us customise our noodles. Triangle noodles also has an interesting texture. The dry noodles quite interesting too. Try ones not using a sesame base.
sides are good, crispy and tasty potatoes
i order dry noodle, beef in the noodle is lil overcooked, broth is normal
and i chose thicker noodle but thinner than my imagined.
still fine but you can find some else’s better
Quite authentic Chinese food in the town.
Master Lanzhou is always my first choice when I want to have Chinese noodles.
I love spicy food, the numbing and spicy beef noodles are the best. If you are a fan of spicy food. MUST try.
I alway have some cold side dishes, But the chicken giblets are not as good as I imagined.
The shredded potatoes are definitely my fav.
The staff I met are OK.
Delicious well priced bowl of noodle soup! Packed full of flavour and you customise everything from the spice level to the size of the noodles. Perfectly clear broth, shaved beef, tender Chinese radish slices, lots of cilantro and scallion, deep red chili oil, and chewy handmade noodles—it’s to die for!
I was on no carb diet for 5 days until Lanzhou beef noodle made me to break my diet. The noodles were freshly made, good timing and texture. It was a lovely meal. Ended up having two bowls.
