Review Chilli Padi - Melbourne

Very convenient to grab food after a long day of shopping. The items as well are very delicious and mouth watering. Another upper hand is they have chilli Everest beside it so we get to taste food from the the cuisines

Came here to visit upon one of my indian friend’s recommendation. It turned out surprisingly good! It’s definitely better (and cleaner) (with better service) than most of the Indian restaurants that you can find in the cbd. Between the four of us, we ordered biryani, chicken masala, dosa, chicken 65 and dry goat. They all tasted so good that I couldn’t choose my fav! All of the dishes were so perfectly spiced and seasoned. Meat were so tender. Dosa was both soft and crispy. Portion wasn’t huge so it’s recommended to order various dishes and share among each other. I would have to say personally, the chicken 65 and dry goat were a little bit too spicy for my liking but I still enjoyed the dishes regardless 😋 can’t wait to come back and try out other dishes!

This little restaurant in the Melbourne Central Station was a pleasant surprise. The spicy prawms that we ordered were really good ans k wouls definitely eat it again! It was a last minute find and it definitely did not disappoint. The price is reasonable and the food is delicious. Seating can be improved a little as tables are very close by to each other but I guess they're simply making the best of the available space.

Had one of the lunch specials. One meat and one vegetable curry plus rice and roti. Good value and very tasty. Quite busy at lunchtime.

Restaurant located inside melbourne central. Food is influenced by Hyderabadi flavours, serving size is big and a reasonable ambience. It can be cold when seating inside so rug up as the sliding door stays open. They offer different type of roti breads influenced from south of India. Worth a try if at Melbourne central.

Ordered lamb murtabak and chicken briyani. Overall the price and serving are good. However the lamb inside the murtabak is chunky and not minced....not that its bad but I grew up with the minced lamb murtabak version.

great food and friendly staff. Naam bread was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend butter chicken and beef korma.

Like fast food but not fast, and not as cheap as fast food should be. Butter chicken was not as creamy or as flavorful, almost watery. Order took a while to go out, second order of uthappam toon even longer (almost 20 mins). Uthappams were quite pricey for the taste and ingredients used. Had the mixed veg one and almost no vegetables.
Daniel
Excellent, friendly service. I absolutely loved the Sagar Kulcha. It was full of flavour, generously filled, and the size of a dinner plate. The sauce was spicy and a wonderful accompaniment.

Yesterday I took the order from chilli India worst experience. Chicken pieces were not cooked and chilli chicken also

what can i say!!! Had a great visit yesterday at Chilli India.excellent customer service.
food was very nice. enough portion and taste was delicious. recommend to all food lovers. will be back to soon enjoy the food. one of the best restaurant in melbourne.

I ordered vegetarian dish thru uber eats. I am hard core vegetarian, instead of veg I got chicken and blindly I ate it. Instantly I realised that it’s not paneer. when I called the restaurant they told please order anything else we will not charge delivery fee. They don’t care about your belief. Pathetic experience..just too bad..there is no option to give 0 star otherwise I would have given that.

It’s a perfect place if one wants to enjoy a typical Hyderabad biryani. It’s flavoursome and gives one hit of nostalgia while in Australia. The North Indian fair is something that can be skipped. The South Indian cuisine is quite good. All in all a great experience, though a bit heavy on the pocket.

We had veg dum biryani, baby corn manchurian, paneer tikka masala and naan. Service was poor. You would expect that the manchurian would come at the beginning but it ended up coming in last. There is no paneer tikka in paneer tikka masala, it’s just pieces of paneer floating in a poorly made gravy which was not even served warm. The naan was not bad. They messed up our order a few times with the rice and then ended up bringing the biryani twice. I am not an expert on biryanis but my partner said that it was good. Lastly, the baby corn manchurian was pretty average.

Today I had Biryanis in chilli India ...one of the best Australia’s Indian Biryani , it’s worth and every thing was amazing...
Madhu
I've never been to this place but have ordered from here multiple times and I loved absolutely everything I've ordered, the chutneys with the dosa's are probably one of the best I've ever had in Melbourne, I also love the curries and the rice dishes here... Lovely place

Biriyani is always good in this place. You will not have much of privacy to sit and eat. It can be a quick way place or may be dinner should be much better.
Hungry Me
This place is always packed. Serves really authentic hyderabadi food. Chicken 65 is the best. I also like their dragon and chicken manchurian. Chicken biryani is good but not consistent. Sometimes it’s extremely spicy, sometimes bland! Looks like they have different chefs making it. Just an observation that the biryani is reasonably good on a Saturday.
Our go to plqce for spicy Indian food.
Arpit Trivedi
They have a poor delivery policy. In spite of you ordering food, they take no blame of confirming the order with the delivery driver which shows how unprofessional the behaviour is.
Chomp
I had these meat dumplings and boy do they pack a punch! They are flavoursome and spicy, I was very pleasantly surprised. The food here is delicious unfortunately there isn’t a lot of seating unless you want to sit out the front of the restaurant in the walk way and it’s generally freezing here - it’s a great take out joint.

Decent Indian Restaurant in the heart of the city. Covering all the dishes from India. My most favourite is chicken chettinad. Tasty starters, main course and drinks.
Robin
The Melbourne Central outlet is always busy and is well patronised by the local Indian workers.

I've tried many of the dishes on the menu and they have always tasted great.

Great Biryanis, excellent curries and really tasty breads (roti, naan and kulcha), and they have Haywards 5000.
Aravind Ratna
Chilli India, The name itself specifies the level of spiciness in the food. if any one is looking for a hint of spiciness in their food, then this place is worth a try for Biryani's and Thali's. Very good Options of Curries and Biriyani's. Goat/Chicken Biriyani is must a try here. Only problem is with seating and timings. And the restaurant has to maintain something which is famous for always, where they lack in saying they Biriyani is finished and cannot be served at the time when customers comes there with mouthwatering to have a delicious biriyani which in turn kills the appetite and interest to choose this restaurant again
Kirsty Haggerty
Chilli India has great food and is good for a quick lunch when working in the city. The Goat Biriyani is very tasty and authentic, I would definitely recommend this to someone who enjoys a bit of spice and real flavour. It also comes in chicken.

The starters are pre-prepared which is
Good: fast service
Bad: you can easily identify the difference
The taste though dominates over other things and can be overlooked
Taste : 5
Quantity : 3
Curries :4
Breads: 3 ☺️
I liked garlic naan. It’s so tasty and yummy. Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to taste new dishes .................................

Typically styled after Mumbai Udipis (ask any Mumbaiya aka Bombaite what it means and without wasting a minute they will tell you that small canteen-like cafes that initially started with the idea of selling inexpensive meals of Idli and Dosas to the usual public, and over a period of time evolved, and started selling inexpensive and rehashed Punjabi, Indo-Chinese , Piezas and Fastfood )

The Baingan Masala, The Gobi Manchurian The Garlic Naan and the Veg Biryani took us down the memory lanes. The taste couldn't get any closer than this!!

Yet to try their Meat Fare and thus, our ratings are strictly restricted to our experience about the Vegetarian Fare.

Service is slow yet friendly. Good on pocket and soothing to the taste buds.

Definitely going again.

Visited here on week day afternoon and the place was really busy. Really Disappointed with the food. Being the famous South Indian restaurant in Melbourne, and visiting it, food was really Bad and also with bad presentation. However, service was quick. Would not Recommend to friends as the food is not up to the mark. Pricey and not enough portion sizes.
Adil
A descent Indian restaurant, slightly cramped for space. Next to Melbourne CBD station, in Melbourne Mall.

The service is quick and food is good.

Staff is polite and cordial.

Reaasonable price for authentic Indian food.

Chicken Tikka, Chicken Kadhai and Mutton Biryani were nice.

I had a worse of worse experience at this restaurant. We entered the restaurant at 8.30pm. upon our arrival we were rudely asked to go sit upstairs since there wasn't any place available downstairs. justified!

Later we ordered for a biryani which apparently this place is famous for and that's what we had visited this restaurant. We were told there are no biryanis available. Fine! But who would enlighten their customers if you're famous for something.

Later then we ordered for Glenfiddich. The waiting staff asked us if we want it with Coke or on the rocks. We ordered for on the rocks. When the drink came it was without the ice. I asked about the ice - the waiting staff said it's all over. WOW! If you don't have something available then why tempt your customers by asking that.

We finally ordered for chicken nilgiri and kadhai chicken. The food was OKAY. Nothing extra ordinary there are heaps of other restaurants I have visited across Melbourne that have a great sense of Indian taste. The portion size is so small that you really can have the full gravy in 3 bites. I'm not even kidding about this.

However we ate the food. I just wanted to bring tbis awful experience to managers notice. Noone cared about our feedback. Then finally one gentleman came and heard us out but in the end he also act like the latter staff and management by saying - We can't really do anything. Noone cared much about these cases here.

If this is the standard you guys are maintaining. I really don't ever want to visit the place either with friends or suggest this to anyone. The restaurant might be doing well right now but trust me if this ignorance continues. You won't survive for long.

Not Recommended because of poor taste, unclean and unhygienic place, service not to the mark and no value for money.

Had ordered:
1. Chicken Manchurian - It was more of a Chicken Crispy and did not have a hint of Chicken Manchurian. Quantity was less.
2. Chicken Kadai - Average taste. Too less quantity.
3. Chicken Biryani - Chicken was not cleaned properly before cooking. It was served cold. Average taste.

Food : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I ordered the Chicken Chennai with a Cheese Naan. Great Indian taste.
Price : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Affordable
Service : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Friendly staff. The waiter recommended me to not order too much and I thank him for that
Ambience : ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Alright
I visited on 8th May for Lunch. Ordered veg thaali (meals) along with one paneer gravy and potato gravy. It was served with 2 rotis and raita.

Paneer gravy - Though it name paneer tikka, it was not so spicy. But taste was fine
Potato Gravy - It was also good

Always a busy joint during weekdays for lunch! Suggest that you get down there by 12.30pm! I had a goat briyani (spicy) and it was fantastic. So much flavour and authenticity. Friend of mine had veg briyani and he too was a satisfied man! Reasonable price considering the location of the restaurant in Melbourne Central. Easily accessible via tram (Elizabeth / Little Lonsdale) and Metro (Melbourne Central Station).

Well this is the place you cannot miss if you are in Melbourne even if you like or not. One or other thing will take you to this restaurant. I have been to restaurant couple of times and want to give the review the now. What I loved is Podi Gobi which was just wow in taste, crispy and spicy. Mutton rogan josh is also good in taste but can be improved for the real taste. Restaurant do serve chicken biryani, which cannot be compare to Hyderabadi biryani but yes very well prepared and good taste according to Melbourne. This restaurant can be trusted for the taste and the money spent.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Chilli india is a popular joint located in Melbourne Central. We tried the prawn manchuria, lamb korma, butter chicken and butter dosa. The lamb korma was a little spicy, flavourful and delicious. The butter chicken wasn't the best. The dosa and safforn rice was just average. The sauces in the dosa tray got all mixed up once it arrived at our table, because it wasnt handle properly when served.

Staff was lovely though.
Gursharan Chana
Terrible customer service!! I have not eaten at the restaurant, but tried to get a delivery from them tonight through Ubereats. The delivery time said 35-40mins. After an hour called to find out if there was a problem only to be told by the guy answering the phone the food had been given to the driver. After another 10 minutes I called back as I wasn't able to seen that it had been picked up. The same guy on the phone told me that it had definitely been picked up, but when I pressed said oh, actually it is still here. Bare faced lies!...If integrity matters at the place you get food from, I would steer well clear!!

Awesome location. Chicken Biryani is good if not the best. This place gets really busy during lunch time but space is not an issue generally. Food has south indian touch so best to ordee south indian food here (Biryanis, Dosa, Idli, Parathas etc..). Staff is polite. Lunch is generally self service. Dinner has waiter service. Must go once if you are in city.
Linda
Yummmm!! The chilli chicken here is so good. The gravy is rich and flavoursome with the right amount of heat. The garlic naan is a winner too. They serve tomato sauce with their samosa which I’ve never see before in an Indian restaurant but each to their own!
Gijo Varghese George
Good location but pathetic masala chai . Don’t know about the other foods . But the Masala chai was really sad . Too milky , no tea flavour , no masala flavour either . The tea had a slight burnt taste as well .I can make better at home with my eye closed .
Shubham Rastogi
My favorite Biryani and Dosa place in Melbourne CBD. They give coconut chutney with Dosa which I love and don't find it in the Indian restaurants at king street. I have tried Biryani at many places, but it remains my favorite in Melbourne CBD with elegantly cooked rice and tender chicken pieces.

Good food .. tastes just like how you get it in India,
Unlike the other Indian restaurants.
We ordered:
Starters - Dragon chicken , Chicken Tikka.
Mains - Chicken Korma, Chicken kadai , chicken nilgiri .... With garlic rotis and garlic naans.

Food: 4.5/5
Ambience: 3
Price: Overpriced
Staff: Polite

Cons: Quantity is quite less for the price.

The service is little more than what you'll get in a food court but the place is always packed.

We've been here twice now. The first time we had a big group upstairs. They were quick to take the orders and quick to return with the food and drinks. The chicken biryani was a popular choice that day. Tasty, generous in size, it was a challenge to finish. However they didn't allow split bills so with a group of 20+, collecting money that day was quite painful for the organiser.

Today just two of us ordered a thali each with 1 meat and 1 vegetable curry, yoghurt dip, rice and roti and a mango lassi with the meal. There are enough choices to cater for taste buds that crave for fire and those that can't handle the heat. Tasty dishes and again such generous serves it's a big challenge to finish.

Unless you come with a big group, it really just feels like a food court with seats, good for a quick bite but not a place to linger and enjoy the atmosphere.
Ela
Nice biryani South Indian hyderabadi style with some spice but rice was mix of white and golden with saffron and the chilli chicken was in a different style to North Indian chilli chicken but It was nice. They have high footfall so chance of getting fed leftover is minimal.
Quick service and staff smiles and says thank you.
Juan Consuela
If you want to try Indian food for the first time, this is the best place for you. I ordered chicken biryani and it was just okay, just like other standard biryani. Next time I come here I just knew that there was menu with rice or fried rice with combination of choose 3side dishes vary from chicken curry, lamb masala, seasoned egg, and many more. They also add pappadam (iconic India cracker) and their roti (India fried flat bread) that cost $17, which is totally worth it. The roti is the best things that I’ve ever had.
Aye Mya Mya Khin
We had the lamb korma, gravy chilli chicken, and the chicken biryani. Biryani was one of the best I’ve had, but I was told the taste is inconsistent at times and is often dry. Lamb korma had the right amount of spiciness to it. I didn’t really enjoy the chilli chicken as much, probably because it was the gravy version. Service wasn’t the quickest, but didn’t take too long. Either way, if you happen to have a craving for indian, this place hits the spot.

The only thing i love about chilli India is its biryani its delicious and you crave for it .
I would rate goat biryani as 5 and chicken biryani as 4.5
The ambience is good the staff is friendly .
Their food is good but i feel they can still do it better to get the typical Indian food taste but may be its also because they are in the city where their customers are from different parts of the world and with different taste buds . Over all i like the restuarant but in the end would say they serve the best biryani in town. Its a must have
Ashna Nain
Good but very basic. Not the top notch Indian quality food you might be looking for however, their addition of the restaurant serving Indian street food is a restaurant worth going for. If you're missing home and its luxurious appeal of street food, the place is a must. If you're missing delicacies, you're better off finding another place.
Neegita Sharma
I have been to this place 2 times, and for some reason I have got stomach infection both the times...I tried dosa last week it was too oily and jus not something I recommend!! staff was just fine not too interested, probably because the place was so full they had no time to smile or great

Went for a dinner with friends as we wanted to eat proper Indian food. We ordered uthappam, dragon panner, chicken tikka and mango lassi. The paneer was good but not that spicy. Uthappam with the sambar and chutney was pretty good.
Mango lassi was given from the fridge and didn't have the fresh feeling.
Service was pretty fast and ambience is decent considering it's located in a mall. For a place called as chilli india we expected more spice in the food.
Split The Bill
I felt like curry for lunch and this place was doing a roaring trade with people who looked like they knew their indian food. This feels like an authentic indian lunch experience. fairly priced. lots of options. pretty tasty. The naan was a standout.
Pradeep Rajkumar
Below average Andhra style coloured biryani with loads of unhealthy basmati rice.

They got dosa with not Authentic South Indian Sambhar.

service is below average and meals too

do not get hyped with lame crowd with no food sense but take care if you want to eat here and face the consequences.

Rip off..

Highly not recommended

Qianyi Lillian Li
Nice place to go for lunch. Really cheap price but the quality of food didn't surprise me.
We had lamb korma, mushrooms palak, chicken tikka and some naan.

K: On a hunt for more convenient and delicious Indian food, I decided to visit the popular and well acclaimed Chilli India in Melbourne central. With nice ambience and music to match that of a Bollywood party, attentive service welcomes you to trial the flavours of India!

I decided to keep it simple today and opt for the classic but favourite Butter chicken with rice. The chicken definitely had a flavour to it that was more rich and tasteful than others in the area, although just not significantly better. Still delicious by any measure however and compliment well with the curry too. Above average butter chicken for sure.

With that being said the meal was good, but it just felt you weren't getting the value you would usually get for the price point. With that being said, the portions and servings were very very generous. A nice little pocket of a restaurant and I would definitely agree and recommend it to try Indian cuisine if you haven't already!

Food: 3.5/5
Value: 3/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5

Overall: 3.5/5

Now ill never miss "real indian food" in melbourne ! Perfect prawns 65, perfect chicken chilli!
If only yhe seating was more cozy, woukd have been perfect 5 .

Came here with a group of 5 people on a Wednesday evening. Service was fast and efficient and the food was delicious. The butter chicken and the beef vindaloo was so nice with a good kick of spice. Will come back.

I been to this place couple of times but I didn’t find it value for money. They don’t have proper sitting area. Food is just average as you can find many restaurants with lesser price and good quality food.
Their services are good but price is ok higher side. The quality served is quite less for the price they claim.
Karvah McClellan
great food! Ramesh is lovely! great service from everyone there, AMAZING roti, yet to try the butter chicken though, im sure it will be tasty. very welcoming and waiters seem genuine when they serve you. absolute favorite place to grab the best roti in town.
Rin
Service is as good as the food! Do try Gundu Chicken (a special of the day), Podi Chicken and Chilli Chicken. Garlic naan is the right amount of salty and good amount of garlic. Roti is crispy and very tasty. Cheese and chilli stuffed dosa is super yums!
Sivashankar Sivam
Always a pleasure dining in here.

However, this week’s visit didn’t warrant a 5 star rating as the tikka masala ordered wasn’t consistent as compared to all other times.

This place is faultless otherwise, with naans and dosas tasting amazing as always! great pricing and great service! Hope they sort out the consistency! ✌🏾
Dhilraz Pn
The best Hyderabadi Biryani Place in CBD. This was our go to place when it came to Biryani. I have had fish starters here, I did not enjoy it much though. Highly recommended if you savor Hyderabadi Lamb Biryani!
Zomatino
This place seems to be going down hill. Have been a few times previously and went again after a few months. Apparently they have started doing set meals during lunch times, the quality of which is pretty pedestrian tbh. Although a bulk of the orders seem to be for their Biryani Thali. Ordered the paneer dish as a main and few paranthas that they had. The guy filled the box from the bain marie and handed it to me, when we opened it it had maybe 6-8 pieces of paneer in it. The paranthas were pretty dry and crispy. Requested the guy for a bottle of water but was told that it is for dinner time only instead we were handed three cups of water. Telling a paying customer that they cannot have a bottle of water during lunch time is just ridiculous ! .
Lolaraean9
This place has delicious Indian food. I have tried the samosas and the butter chicken curry. The samosas are perfect as they are vegetarian so most people can eat them. The pastry is nice and the filling is not too heavy, in my experience. Unfortunately, when I ordered the $15 butter chicken curry, it came in a tiny bowl and I was shocked to see that there was so little curry. The staff are nice here.

When it’s peak winter in Melbourne and you crave for biriyani that is authentic just like you want it to be as your hometown I go to chilli India. This place serves great biriyani. The staffs have always been very attentive in all my visits. There are few stops I take guests out for dinner. This place is for people who love biriyani. Ambience is a pretty decent with outdoor chairs and indoor hall upstairs. We prefer outdoor. The Masala chai is authentic if you love chai served in India.
Madhavanatraj
Ordered vegetable briyani for lunch yesterday and regretted my decision to eat there. No taste and food was cold when it arrived to my table. Not worth the money
Shanmugam Sidambaram Shan
I found this place by chance. I am impressed with the quality of food at such a reasonable easonable price. The staff were friendly and prompt in their service.
Foodie Foodie
Probably one of my favourite hangout spots! Their lamb Briyani is their best and I still dream of it everynight 😋😋 The Thosai are pretty darn good and I love their speedy service!
Little Bit Of Everything
Been here a few times. One of the main reasons is because its open till late and some of there dishes are spot on . We always end up ordering dosas, they a few options and they all are perfectly made. Biryani's are quite dry. Quick service but its all always packed so you might to wait to get a seat.
Divya Seshadri
An amazing place to have dinner with probably 2 or 3 people. Ambience isn’t that good and the seating is slightly congested, but the food is great. Especially the cheese naan and bhindi masala, my all time favorite! ❤️
Would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Chicken Korma ($14.9) turned out to be a surprising winner. I had expected a mild, sweet, and westernised curry with no kick to it whatsoever. Instead, the gravy had a rich, deep aroma and a generous whack of chilli, underscored by a nutty creaminess from the cashews. The smooth, rich sauce was mopped up completely with a serve of fluffy Steamed Rice ($2.95ea).
Miss_live_to_eat ✔️
A good Indian cuisine option in the CBD area. Menu options are good. Prices are towards the higher side. I only wish they had a bigger space. The menu includes the usual Indian dishes. The taste is good however The quantity is not that good.
Amy Ch
Food is very delicious, I am not a big fan of rice but my friends told me their biryani it's yummy.
The flaky Roti is tasty though to oily, also I didn't like the murtaban it was more like lamb curry rolled between chapati.
Rest for vegetation and non vegetarian.
Masranichintan92
Worst experience ever !! I had been there a few days back as I was around the corner and I was very hungry. We are vegetarians so nothing else was the option ! Tried Mysore masala dosa and veg Biryani. The dosa so spicy and masala was tasteless. Biryani was pathetic. I’m rating it for the beer I had. Seriously can’t even think of this restaurant ever again. Worst in the vicinity.
Keerthan Mk
The food here is good , considering the flavor that they are being able to maintain outside India is amazing. I strongly recommend this place for Indians . It's worth it
Food Critic
Came here a few times in the past and the last time we had chilli chicken, butter chicken, beef vindaloo, plain roti, saffron rice and mango lassi.

The food and the service here is average. I found it their food use to take better in the past. The last time we try the dishes that we usually get, it was more watery and salty.

If you feel like cheap, quick Indian food in the city then come here. It's still an ok place but don't expect too much. 😀
ManFromMelbourne
Greatest South Indian food in the cbd. Fresh, delicious and affordable.

Their dosa is probably the best you can find in greater Melbourne. Curries are light and fresh, full of flavour and bursts of spices.

The thali is fantastic value, but if you haven't tried a dosa before, this is the place to go. The bar will be set so high that you'll struggle find one as good anywhere else.

Staff are friendly but seating can be limited - it's in Menzies alley in Melbourne Central off Elizabeth St.

Totally worth a wait if it's busy. Highly recommend.
Indhu Nathan
Great place for good Indian Food in CBD. I was a regular customer there during my stay in Melbourne. Usually in all other Indian restaurants in Melbourne, the taste is not that authentic, as they alter it a bit to suit everybody. But here, they deliver the authentic taste. We never got bored of the Paneer Chilli and Biriyani there. We also loved the Masala tea there during the cold days.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, they could work on their ambience and cleanliness.

Overall, this is the place to go when you crave for good Indian food. I often refer this to my friends there in Melbourne, whenever they ask for a good Indian restaurant.

Food - 4.5
Ambience - 3
Service - 3.5
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
When it comes to Indian at Melbourne Central apart from Little Indian in the food court, there's Chilli Indian in the indoor laneway past Kikki K that's always buzzing with students, workers and a lot of Indians (always a good sign) looking for a quick and cheap eat. All the mains are $15 and under.
Anoop Kwatra
Great Indian food, loved the place. Butter chicken was awesome. My friend told that Biryani is really good here. Surely going to try that in my next visit.
Antonio
Food was good the place is buzzing and the staff are very busy. I guess it value for money. Not so spicy reasonably priced. Enjoyed the experience.
Ash D
Definitely exceeded expectations with the level service, given it's sort of a casual dining setting yet they still offer table service. The food was plentiful and had lovely flavours.
Lianne
Had Goat Biryani and Palak Paneer

The goat biryani is pretty good but I would prefer that with more spices.

Palak paneer is my must order dish whenever I go to Indian restaurants. This palak paneer is diluted and very mild in flavour. Like the fact that the guy who took my order was double checking if I was aware that this dish doesn't comes with rice.

Not the best Indian food but don't mind dropping in or take away when I need a quick Indian food fix.

Jin Jau Liau
Ordered chicken murtabak, plain dosa, roti egg, fish 65, chicken tikka naan and chicken briyani. It was my first time eating chicken tikka naan and I really enjoyed it. The other dishes were delish. I would come back for the dosa and try their curries.

We were searching for good Indian food and that's when we found chilli india. only thing to complain is the waiting time to serve the food. Great food, great ambience. will be back
Little Pink Piggy
Had a quick meal here with a friend before we went to a show. Food is relatively cheap with main meals priced at 10 to 15 dollars. Good variety and very quick service. I ordered the goat biryani and my friend had the chilli chicken with a side of garlic naan. The food came out so quickly that they can't possibly cook them as you order but the food is delicious! Highly recommend.
Nidhi
This is one of the restaurants which serves really delicious indian food. Must try their biryanis. I have been here many times and every time the food taste the same. Good combos. I would not recommend dosa as it didn't have any flavour. Must try their yummy thalis with roti and curry. Roti is nice and crispy. Overall good place for lunch during office hours.
The Gastronaut
Cheap cheap cheap food. Prices are high compared to quality offered.
The service is so terrible. The plates and cutlery are not washed - Not hygienic at all.

Definitely not going back!
P R
Go for the biryani! Or better still, get a takeaway because the restaurant itself is just ordinary. Oh and get a mango lassi to go with it! Yum!

Best thing to order is the veg biriyani by far! The spices are on point and it's cooked really well. They could do with being a little more generous with the side serve of yoghurt though. There's never enough and I've often had to request a top up. Great if you work in the city and want to grab a quick lunch.

Chilli India, Melbourne central, cuisine- Indian. Well I don't think I can come across an Indian who hadn't had the biryani at chilli india. One of the best in Melbourne for sure. Their indo-Chinese vegetarian starters are delicious too... a great place for weekday lunch or an after shopping bite. Next door to Max Brenner so always drop in for some dessert after. @chilliindia @melbournecentral #rating4.5 #melbournefoodie #foodislife #livefoodlovefood #lovebeingavegetarian #biryaniforlife #indianfood #vegbourne #igersmelbourne #melbournebesteats #cheapeats #citylunch #stuffedmyface #shoppingextravaganza #melbournecentral #instablogger #foodblogger

Went here with some work colleagues during lunch but it was not a pleasant meal. Firslty this place needs a little bit more ventilation. I ordered the rice and 2 curries option but could only finish the rice as it was plain and left the other two items as they really were not that good..both the taste and spices were off. Other colleagues also were not able to finish their meals and we just left all the the food as is. All of us have had better indian food here and overseas and this was really not upto the mark.

Writing this review here: Ok so after about 5 such experiences, I'm am left with no choice but to write this review!
1. There is no clarity when they would accept card and when they don't! If there is a particular system, I don't see any posters or communication anywhere!
This makes me feel they just decide when they want to accept the card, according to their own whims and fancy!
2. Menu! Again no clarity, when do they serve what ?
Once they tell that's a dinner menu, and sometimes they serve!
3. Water- apparently they serve water only for dinner and the rest of the time we need to save our thirst! Ridiculous😑

Extremely disappointed with the way this restaurant works!
I will not come here again ! Sorry.
-Ankitha

Located conveniently in Melbourne Central. Good place for a quick bite if you happen to be around. The Dosas served along with the chutney and sambar are really good, being a South Indian you can take my word on it. The Chilly baby corn, Veg kadhai and Kerala paratha(this is like a nan bread made on a pan) was pretty good too. Its pretty cheap, you will find a lot of Indians which means the food is quite authentic and spicy. It's also known for its Biriyanis. Will drop in if I happen to be in melbourne central and hungry.
Food: 4.0
Ambience: 2.5
Service: 3

Service seriously needs to improve. Paranthas are hopeless😳 - we ordered paneer parantha and it came - Not Kidding you- with large square chunks of paneer inside parantha with red chilli powder visible on the outside. 😱 When we complained the staff initially said "that's how we make it."
Umm. No you don't- you freaking shred the paneer 😐
Sambhar could be thicker with more flavour.
Mainstream dishes are quite good. But seriously the service needs to be kicked up a couple of notches. Staff is not helpful or courteous.

Another place we tried 2 years ago and went back to it. The place has expanded quite a bit. They know have pretty much the entire corridor as well as an outdoor seating area. We started with the dragon paneer. It was hot but really good, Indian Chinese. We then went for the plain does and egg dosa. Both of them were nice just not crisp enough. The disappoint was the egg dosa. It was just a plain dosa with egg. Overall a great dinner would really like to try their biryani, hopefully another day.

My go-to place in the city for great Indian food! Been a couple of times and food is consistently good. Craving a curry now just writing this review. Would definitely recommend this place!

Great with authentic Indian taste. Tender goat biryani. Rogan curry . Mango lassi. Very delicious. Prices are standard n service is generally good.

Really enjoyed the dhosa and chicken beryiani here. Tasted really authentic. I would definitely go back the next time I have craving for South Indian food. And oh, did I mention the portions were generous too. What's not to like?

Best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. If you are after spicy Indian food, look no further. For all Biryani lovers, find different biryanis with choice of your spice level and enjoy the sumptuous delicacy.

Ambience is not good seated in the alleyway so based on the food alone I was impressed. Service was soso, but it was a busy Friday evening. Noticeable was an apparent large regular clientele who seemed to have memorized the menu.

I really enjoyed this meal, it's a cheap and cheerful Malaysian Indian place that's part of the Melbourne Central complex. I went for a meal deal that included butter chicken, eggplant curry, rice and a roti. It always seems busy which is definitely a good sign! I'll be back :)

Went here for my wedding anniversary and got two dosas to take away. Best dosas I've had in Melbourne, my only complaint was that we didn't get given enough samba, but ah well! So tasty! Can't wait to come again.

Always wanted to try this when we passed by each time, finally had a chance to try out today.

Chicken briyani was really good, love the briyani rice, very good fragrant, each individual rice and not sticky, the chicken was tender and good flavour.

Plain roti was good, great texture.

Beef vandalo flavour was good, personally prefer softer beef texture, curry taste was great.

Suggest to dine inside the restaurant on the ground floor, too many birds flying outside at the alley and also at the top floor, not very hygienic.

Would definitely go back again for more dishes
