Came here for high tea. Not a single wait staff served us while we waited at the entrance for about 10 minutes before having to go an find a waitress to seat us. After being seated no explanation of the high tea or offer of tea or coffee was made, waited another 15-20 minutes for them to bring out our food and then take our drink orders. Worst of all the cafe is a self serve with a huge line and an awful inside- the only good thing about the cafe is the gardens it is surrounded by. Felt very strange doing high tea amoungst casual diners carrying cafeteria trays. Service was 1/5, luckily the food was actually decent. Wouldn’t recommend high tea here, ever.
Visited this place recently. The place offers a very good view. I had chicken wrap and cafe mocha. Both were very good. The service too was great.
It’s such a treat to visit the Botanical Gardens and we usually pop into The Terrace for lunch when we do. Despite the cafeteria vibe the food is very good. I had soup of the day (sweet potato), partner had a salami baguette and the small person had scones. We were all happy with our choices.
Best Scones with jam and cream in Melbourne 5/5
Love the Chai fusion Latte (Big Mug). They deliver hot and so soothing to drink. 5/5
Fruit salad 5/5
There are many other delicacies to delight on. 4/5
I just wish they would not close at 4pm winter time and 5pm summer time. Please at least add an hour onto these times. 2/5
I have been there twice for a casual breakfast. Simple menu, but very nice. Venue happy to accommodate reasonable variations. Both times reasonably priced coffee was very good. Staff were friendly & helpful. Happy to go again to enjoy the gorgeous setting.
Best Food and Staff. I just visited The Terrace today for lunch with some friends. The pumpkin risotto was one of the best I have ever had - very tasty. We had coffee and scones for desert and being a lover of coffee found the coffee to be one of the best I have ever had - a true testament to any good restaurant. The scones were also lovely. I have to compliment the staff on their attentive and friendly service. Definitely recommend The Terrace.
What a beautiful establishment. My meal was amazing. The staff were very friendly and I was blown away by the cleaniness of the restaurant. Best burger I've had in years! Well done!!
Lovely afternoon tea. A friend and I popped into The Terrace the other day for some Devonshire tea. Lovely venue, cosy couches, great coffee and the scones with jam & cream are to die for!
I am very happy with The Terrace, Royal Botanical Gardens. It has a great atmosphere. The food was fresh and fantastic and the service is great too. I very much enjoyed the cakes!
I recently visited The Terrace for a girls day out, and we had the best meal ever. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous.yes there was a queue ... But definitely worth the wait!!!i highly recommended!!
Beautiful setting for afternoon tea. My mother and I had a lovely afternoon tea at The Terrace. The setting, Melbourne's beautiful Botanical Gardens, contributed towards a relaxing occasion. The food was delicious, staff were very attentive and the cafe, clean and well presented. I look forward to returning later in the year when the weather is warmer and we can relax at an outside table, taking in this attractive environment.
Morning tea with a view. The Terrace is a lot cleaner than what it used to be a couple of years ago. The waiters regularly take the dirty dishes from the outside sitting area which was something that really needed attention. My scones were really nice, although I thought the wraps, sandwiches and rolls looked nice they are a tad expensive. Overall a pleasant experience.
1st world problems to all the other negative reviews. The place wasn't as bad as the reviews made out to be. The high tea was good with friendy staff.. The food was of a quality you expect with a higher price.
Being warm is a huge plus since most of the savouries at high teas are cold. I liked the moist and well seasoned filling of both savouries but my favourite would have to be the tart.
Spent our time with my beautiful wife on our 18th anniversary at the Terrace for high tea, before going for our experience we enjoyed the many walks sightseeing through the gardens and reminisced about the our wedding day which was held here also.
Started with 🍾 which was kept topped up!, we started with scrumptious finger sandwiches small pies, sausage rolls, then scones and finished off with macaroons and a coffee
It was just a perfect amount for us. We walked back to our car fully content.
Would definitely come back for other take away options and relax on the lawns or by the Waterways.
Nice quick lunch. Good variety of foods for takeaways and dining in. Friendly staff. 🙂
Regrettably The Terrace will be closing in about 20 days. ☹
Lovely place, within a short walk from public transport, ease of access, nice flowers well taken care of gardens!
Note they do not accept cash - card only. Surprisingly well priced and good quality food. We got takeaway Roast Veg & Quinoa Wrap ($12.50, vegetarian) and Chicken and Avocado Baguette ($12.50). Also note they are open public holidays but there is a 15% surcharge.
Fabulous location in the botanic gardens. The breakfast menu has several vegetarian options, which I love. It would be great to see the place open a little earlier for the morning people, at least during the Summer months.
I attended the Terrace cafe on Anzac Day. I t was very busy but the staff were amazing . They kept calm amongst the obvious shortage of staff which is happening everywhere due to the coronavirus problems. The little outside kiosk couldn’t open because there was no staff ! In the Terrace cafe had scones and jam and cream. They were huge and delicious. A meal in itself . I highly recommend this venue but go easy on the staff. They are doing the best they can under very stressful conditions. I noticed they had an angry customer who only wanted to pay cash. The corona era has changed so many things. I am happy to be out and about again .
Scones, jam & cream plus coffee sitting in sun overlooking.lake and watching people & dogs walking great
Staff very courteous. Walking in Botanical Gardens early winter was.relaxing. Recommended to anyone .
