Such a pleasant experience! Excellent food & coffee with delightful wait staff (Huge props!) I was absolutely impressed with Sauteed Mushrooms. I could tell they used VERY fresh mushrooms - juicy and full of flavor. Hash Rosa tea was a bit disappointing as it lacked flavour in comparison to other dishes but overall worth a trip :)
Really interesting flavours of caramelised banana with bacon and croissant. The pavlova was probably not the best choice for brunch ....
What can I say, # is one of the best brunch cafes in Melbourne. Everything on the menu is pretty much spectacular, and ‘12 Hour Short Rib’ is beyond this planet. The rib was falling apart soft, grains were beautifully crunchy and just can’t get enough. Coffee is also great and I’ll be back to try the remaining dishes on the menu. I give this place 5 bears
Actually the coffee or beverages are pretty good. But with Zomato Gold we must order same beverage to get the benefit
In my opinion, Hash offers the #1 Iced Coffee in Melbourne. The coconut vanilla creaminess is a subtle layer that compliments rather than masks.
We had the duffle (Apple braised duck), truffles mushrooms, and cauliflower!! We were very happy with the food! It came out vibrant and full of colour. The highlight was the Mork hot chocolate which comes with an amazing cloud of fairy floss!! It’s sensational and unlike we’ve ever seen or tasted! Looking forward to returning :)
Busy little cafe on the extension of Hardware Lane. We only had a cappuccino but it was well made. They supply sparkling or still to chase it. Happily accepted Zomato Gold.
Stumbled across this place in Hardware Lane yesterday for breakfast There was 9 of us and everyone said it was fantastic. Our waitress Dao was excellent. Very happy and efficient The food was great We will be back !!!!
The duffle is great but cauliflower not. cauliflower is too oily for me. hot chocolate is awesome! especially with zomato gold 2+2! (have surcharge on weekend)
Amazing customer service. All the staff I encountered had such warm smiles and were very kind and helpful!!
Had brunch here on a Sunday afternoon. I had the duck waffle and my friend had a vegan option. Had to queue for about 5 min to get a table which was no big deal. The guy managing the queuing system was upbeat and friendly. Staff are lovely, food and coffee is great.
Amazing food and great vibes and service. Their speciality hot chocolate has fairy floss and the drinks are presented in a conical flask. It was like drinking liquid chocolate. The shakshuka was also good but more suited for winter as opposed to 40 degree weather. Overall great place.
the service was great and the food was amazing
Decided to try this place out as they were on Zomato Gold. Was told that the offer applies to the same drink only 👎🏻 Tried their batch brew flat white.
Not a coffee expert but pretty decent coffee being that I can feel the coffee intensity. It definitely wasn’t those watery flat white. Overall lives up to its rating of 4.2.
Would have preferred if they allowed us to order different drinks using GOLD instead of the same drink.
It was around Halloween when I came and was surprised by the decorations around the place. I was able to grab and table and they had a flask as a water jug. I came to try their Has hot chocolate which was an 85% Mork dark chocolate served with candy floss. I also grabbed the short rib.
I found that the chocolate was quite bitter but the candy floss did take away some of it. I did have to add a bit more sugar to make the chocolate more palatable. It was an interesting experience watching the hot chocolate melt through the floss.
The short rib was really nice. Very tender and juicy. The savoury juices mixed nicely with the rice. The other additions to the rice added texture and flavour. Even though I wasn't particularly hungry the food was delicious and easy to finish.
With free wifi this is a nice place to work in, with delicious food and drink options
What we ordered:
- Matcha Latte
- Matcha Flossy
- Truffle Mushroom
- French Toast Croissant
- The Duffle
We used zomato gold 2+2 to redeem for the matcha latte and also matcha flossy. Matcha flossy really did amazed me tho. I thought it would be really sweet due to the flossy but surprisingly it tasted bitter! Would like to try the hot chocolate one after I recover HAHA.
Stopped by Hash for a nice iced coffee on a cold morning in melbourne. Although the ice coffee came i a glass bottle it was pretty good.
On the second day having moved to Melbourne, we went to have brunch with a couple of old friends at Hash. Luckily we managed to get a big table on a Sat noon given the big crowd. There was a wide selection of brunches and drinks available at this cozy cafe.
Below are the food and drinks that we have had on that day.
FOOD:
- Granola (AUD 16) - This is one of the prettiest Granola bowls I have ever seen!! Perfect plating🌸 with fresh fruits such as cranberries, strawberries, blueberries and apricot, coconut yogurt and maple roasted oats. Did like their strawberry and rosewater jam.
- Truffled Mushroom (AUD 19.5) - This did smell very nice! Big portion of nicely flavoured mushrooms.
- Kansas Chicken Burger (AUD 21.5) - Defo a huge one! Deep fried chicken thigh was very evil, yet crispy and tasty.
- The Duffle (AUD 24) - My friend also complimented on this apple braised pulled duck and poached eggs on a waffle.
DRINKS:
- Mork Even Darker 85% Chocolate with a cloud of fairy floss ☁️ (AUD 7) - Super thick and rich hot chocolate. Absolutely photogenic. For those who opt for a less thick hot chocolate, you may ask the staff to give you some hot milk.
- Flat White (AUD 4) was quite strong and smooth!
We went to Hash on a Saturday at about 1pm. We were seated and were brought menus immediately. The staff were fantastic with bringing us water, taking our orders and bringing us our drinks really quickly. I ordered the signature hot chocolate which came with fairy floss - it was amazing to look at and the chocolate was thick, bitter and delicious. One of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever had. The batch brew coffee was aromatic and tasted beautiful. For food we ordered the smashed avo on toast and added poached eggs and hash and the braised duck waffle. The waffle was light and fluffy and the braised duck was tender and tasty. The eggs were poached beautifully with the yolks bursting out of the whites. The side salad was tangy and fresh and cut through the richness of the rest of the dish. The smashed avocado was delicious but the eggs were a little overcooked and the toast was a little too hard. The hash was fluffy on the inside and delicious. Like many cafes in the city the food is not cheap but the food and the service justify the price.

Hash is our benchmark in the CBD. We time it just as the muffins are coming out around 8am. Love the fact they have #melbournehotsauce
I recently visited Hash to try their new menu items, and boy was I impressed! Locate din the famous Hardware Lane, Hash takes Melbourne brunch to the next level which their creative and innovative dishes and techniques.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed into the cosiest looking venue and greeted by the friendliest staff. I love the dimly lit, warm and home-y vibe of this cafe, with the coffee station in the centre. The owner kindly went through the menu with us, and although choosing dishes was the hardest part, we ended up going for the Pork Brik, Ora King Salmon, and Clafoutis.
I had no idea what to expect for the Pork Brik, but I was amazed when it came out. Literally a “brick” - of delicious pulled pork encased in a crispy thin “brik pasty”. It was sweet from the apricot and raisins, and savoury from the ricotta and mustard sauce. All the flavours worked so well together! This is definitely worth a try!
The Ora King Salmon has to be my favourite dish. The salmon is smoked in-house and it is just perfect. And the dish even has a cannoli - filled with the most delicious chive cream that’s drizzled that’s drizzled over the dish. Highly recommend thing this!
And finally, the Clafoutis for dessert. Wow, I was in love with this dish! It’s almost like a bread pudding, served warm - but not too heavy nor too sweet. It’s creamy, moist and so moorish. This is a must for dessert!
For drinks, we had their signature Hash Hot Chocolate as well as the Matcha Flossy, and also got to try their brand new Iced Chocolate Chai. The hot chocolate is as good as ever - made with Mörk chocolate, it’s the best hot choc in Melbourne! The matcha was actually amazing too - it’s lighter and not as creamy as the hot choc, but very delicious. And the new drink was superb! Who knew that mixing chocolate and chai together would work so well?!
Overall, we had the most incredible time at Hash. I cannot recommend this cafe enough!
Thank you so much for having us!
Hash speciality coffee is a pretty famous cafe located along hardware lane.. one of their signatures was the hot chocolate which was a really thick chocolate drink served alongside a cup of cotton candy.. the trick is to pour in the melted chocolate without making a mess.. this makes up a bit of a sweetener for the hot chocolate drink.. the coffee was pretty decent..
Food wise portions were quite generous and even though we shared a serving this was enough to fill us up.. staffs are very friendly too..

📝: Head over to Hash Specialty Coffee situated conveniently in the middle of the CBD. Enjoy your weekend brunch with a cup of coffee in this small laneway.
❤️: Serving dark Mörk cocoa in a beaker and poured over house-made fairy floss, which collapses into a sticky chocolate morass surely isn’t something you can just find anywhere.
But it’s not just about the hot chocolate. Look at that Pork Brik pastry filled with pulled pork, raisins, chestnut, ricotta cheese, and a poached egg.
Also my favorite, their newly reconstructed salmon dish—Ora King Salmon. House smoked salmon, fennel, puffed rice, cannoli with chive cream, mixed nuts, poached eggs on multigrain.
Lastly, big shout out to their newest drink special—Iced Chocolate Chai. Literally THE BEST COMBO EVER ❤️!
Good coffee mushrooms were lovely
Love this place, it’s little hidden, the food was very nice, the coffee was decent, providing sparkling water, and the service was really nice.
The staffs are very friendly. Food was awesome especially the Japanese Burger. The French Toasted Croissant, Beets n Pieces are good as well. Overall a 5 star for them.
Such a pleasant experience at Hash Speciality Coffee. Had their special Hash Hot Chocolate which comes with a floss. Me being a big fan of dark chocolate I couldn't have asked for anything better 😍 Would definitely be visiting again 😍
Wish I hadn’t had a food intolerant attack the previous night, as I was so looking forward to trying something more adventurous than simple bacon eggs on toast. Definitely need to come back!
Excellent service and food. The staff was really friendly and the cafe ambience was fantastic. My friend and I really enjoyed our brunch there!
Let’s just rehash the facts.
Hash is famed for its theatrical hot chocolates, neon hashtag, and prime hardware lane location. It’s loved (by coffee enthusiasts like myself) for its quality driven coffee offerings, and some of the most grammable dishes in town.
Owners Ben Lou and Syed Mirraney snapped up this CBD hotspot several years ago, and created a warm café with nooks for tourists and office workers to escape the concrete jungle outside.
Coffee is roasted by Reverence, with both filter and espresso options available.
The menu has some of the hottest dishes in town, such as the vegan Golden Chia Pudding with coconut, mango, and turmeric; Potato Dauphine; Apple braised pulled duck with herb waffles; and the House Smoked Chicken with smoked tea egg, and a chamomile emulsion.
Open 7 days a week, be ready to wait in line for a seat if you’re coming on a weekend; and be assured it is well worth the wait.
Finally got to try out this joint! My partner and I have been diverted by the long lines before - but this time we came at an unconventionally late hour for lunch. The ambience is great - lots of green and plants inside, which I like. Staff are also very nice. The Japanese chicken burger I ordered was delicious and that yuzu aioli was the bomb. The coffee is also fantastic. Highly recommend.
I reckon this was my fifth time visiting Hash. I had the most instagrammable coffee at my first visiting. Yea, it was definitely a ‘wow’. But I’m not into sugar or fluffy stuff. I ordered Duffle, duck and waffle, nicely presented but I would prefer a bit more crispy waffle. The place was busy, but not when I came in, which was around 10am. When we left the place around 11am, there was a long line outside. Anyway, a good place to visit and take some ‘hashtag’ photos
Enjoyed their coffee here as it had a nice coffee scent and tasted great without sugar. I usually get a flat white.
Love this place. The food is amazing. Warm and friendly staffs. I’ve ordered the chilli crab soufflé. The soufflé was unique, delicious and well presented. Will definitely coming back again to try other dishes. Well done guys 👍🏻
Had quite a nice vibe and wasn’t overly crowded (at least on a weekday) however there weren’t as many options on the menu (especially vegetarian options) in the CBD branch, as I think most of the variety is offered in the Camberwell branch. Despite that, I was impressed with my meal which was the Chocolate Pavlova, as it was quite delicious and artfully decorated.
Come with my friends. Waiting 25 mins for a seat, friendly staff, nice environment and yummy food. The magic coffee is a little be strong and matcha one amusing and come this a sand clock. The pork belly is yummy but the special of the day - risotto is not that good, raw urchin :(
A modern cafe in Hardware St in the CBD. It is quite spacious and we got a spot in a quite corner upstairs. The staff was very nice and attentive. We've ordered a Matcha Soy Latte and a regular Latte.
They were both really good but the serving was really tiny for the price.
Ordered the burger, the crossaint, the avo toast with pesto and corn dish - they were all good. Coffee here is good too. Family of 8 enjoyed it.
Melbourne’s instagrammable cafe. Had the Mork hot chocolate and the summer drink and it was quite impressive. The presentation was good and it wasnt too sweet
Coffee stop only. General impressions only as well and definitely no photos as my meeting required absolute concentration on my very high powered companions, a most unusual situation for TS these days. My coffee was excellent. Black, rich and substantive. It went down well and aided concentration and overall enjoyment. Service was charming throughout from multiple servers. The visit went well. Meeting went well too. Venue recommended.
French Toast
Very sweet, if you have a sweet tooth then get this. Surprisingly I couldn't finish it, it's very filling. The cream in the middle got me fooled thinking it was ice cream but other than that the cream balanced out the sweetness of it all. The berries on the other hand tasted kind of weird and off but it didn't bother me. Overall definitely try the French Toast if your looking for some new taste, it's unique. I think it's way better than "traditional" french toast.
My favourite cafe on hardware lane by a mile. I love how it’s just simple but brilliant. A lot of the other cafes on hardware lane are over rated you get really over the top food which lacks in flavour. However, hash does not do this. It is all presented well and is super tasty! The coffee is also great!
I have eggs on toast with a few sides. I was having a rough week however this really made it 10x better. My friend had the pork brick. Everything had great flavour, seasoned to perfection and was all very much enjoyed. The pork brik literally fell apart beautifully.
Keep doing you hash it’s ace.

line waiting out the door, so it much have been good. unique hot chocolate, amazing coffee, even better breakfast! amongst a common side street of melb CBD, this is a gem
Sooo damn good! And service is just as amazing as the Chai. Highly recommended. Staff are polite, nice and everything come out fast, not like other cafe in general. Well, couldn’t fault anything, seriously.
Pretty decent brunch spot, good food choices and coffee is not bad too. Be prepared to wait during weekends or peak hours. Service is okay, can be a bit of a wait with your food
Hash cafe is one of Melbourne’s iconic brunch cafes is the CBD hidden down the famous foodies paradise strip of hardware lane. Darkly lit inside identifiable by it signature hash tag label, the interior is small mostly made up of high rise bench communal tables along with wall seating and a small upstairs section located towards the back of the cafe.
Rather quiet for a Sunday I popped in for a visit after hearing very good things about their coffee. I plonked myself at the front of the cafe facing the lane way on one of the large bench wooden tables as a waitress came and attended to me. Straight of the bat I ordered a long black taking notes of the Ethiopian single origin that was on offer. My brew arrived promptly, thick and hot and my palate was salivating about to be saturated in a aromatic chocolatey roast. The brew was excellent full of flavour and well extracted presenting acidic pleasant textures.
After viewing the creative menu I chose the granola consisting of maple roasted organic oats, pepitas, fig, apricot and walnut jam, coconut yoghurt and seasonal fruit. The dish was presented beautifully, care and respect paid to the fresh use of produce allowing each element to shine on the plate. The large serving of chewy oats, nuts, seeds and an assortment of dried fruit crafted the perfect crunchy base for the creamy thick coconut yoghurt that was lashed with the pulpy jam above. The jam was a bit too sweet for my taste buds but the addition of fresh tart berries relieved the palate and tied all aspects of the flawless and filling dish together.
Hash is an awesome cafe standing out among its competitors on hardware lane. The service is excellent and the food and coffee is of an superb standard. Hash creates a relaxing chilled out vibe ideal for Melbourne brunch addicts ensuring customers will not be left disported of with an empty belly. :)
Unique but lovely brunch experience for a Filipina at heart. We ordered their salmon and truffle dish. It was quite a refreshing mix, and the greens complement the dish well. I really enjoyed the mushrooms! The truffle taste gives the dish a certain zing.
We ordered the chocolate and some food. The hot chocolate was amazing. It was very interesting to see the hot chocolate being poured over the fairy floss and how it melts into the cup. The waitress told us how to do it and we all got to do our own. Friendly service. The food was amazing too. Cant wait to go back here again. A definate place to try.

I have been wanting to try Hash Specialty Coffee for some time now, ever since I spotted the Mork Hot Chocolate with the fairy floss!
I was a little sad that once I poured the chocolate, the fairy floss disappeared and I was only left with half a cup of drink, still it was delicious!
The Chia Pudding had a lot of interesting textures and I loved the salted peppitas! The Mushrooms had a wonderful amount of polenta and was tasty, although I should have said yes to the cracked pepper - just a little more seasoning would have been fab!
The coffee here is good!I like the cozy atmosphere and friendly service here… The breakfast and lunch is served all day,the two dishes we ordered is tasty but the portion is kinda not enough for me😅
After a couple visits to other cafes I was starting lose hope of getting a good coffee in this city. Hash made a u-turn extacly when it was needed. Delicious.
The "magic" coffee was great. Takes the best pieces of a flat white and ramps the flavour. Cold brew was on point and needed when it is running up to 40 degrees outside.
Art was very cool also (and made using coffee as a medium!). Would have picked something up if I wasn't strictly carry on :)
Friendly team as well.
Thanks. will be coming again before I leave town
Near White Mojo and Hardware Societe, Hash gets its own popularity. Its hot chocolate and eggs benny are never disappointing. From my point of view, amongst these three, Hash has the best hot chocolate. It is rich with 70% coco and tasted silky. The eggs benny was great. Hollandaise is always lovely with it. Most attractive advantage: less waiting time!
Had a really nice brunch with one of my close friends
I ordered the avocado whilst my friend made a custom breakfast.
I loved the avocado and cherries with a poached egg super simple but great combination. If you’re looking for a hearty brunch this is the place.
Welcoming service and warm environment! This place on delivers on price, variety, value, and taste. The staff was lovely and really attentive we were quickly seated on the coffee's and food came out really quick. Everything was going well. Overall, great experience would recommend!
Hash is a well known cafe that definitely lives up to all the hype. I decided to order their famous hot chocolate and the chocolate pavlova. Simply put the hot chocolate is a beautiful theatrical experience that needs to be seen for yourself. Food was extremely tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.
We were invited along to Hash in Hardware Lane to experience their latest menu.
We chose a main dish each, and a dessert to share. The Duffle Benedict was fantastic, the herb waffle went so well with the duck. We enjoyed the delicate flavours of the Charred Ora King Salmon. A nice wobble from the 63-degree egg and the soft salmon was tasty. The choice to share the delightful dessert dish of Choc Pavlova wasn’t a good one! Next time we’ll order one each to spare the dessert spoon duelling over the last morsel!
Thankyou Dan for looking after us and making our visit an enjoyable one.
We thank Hash Specialty Coffee for having us. We experienced our brunch as guests, and all of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.
The location can’t beat White Mojo or Hardware Societe but this place knows how to keep their customers. The chai was amazing. I ordered a duffle benedict and I love it. That tangy citrus taste coming through the mandarins really lifted up the salad. The hollandaise is a bit on heavy side (just my personal taste as you might find it satisfying with its richness). The highlight is the herb waffle, it complemented the whole dish so well! It has that a sweetness coming through the waffle and the savory bit from the herbs and the poached egg. Attentive and lovely staffs. Definitely recommend the place!
Hash is the perfect embodiment of a thriving Melbourne café, a weekend brunch mecca, drawing in the crowds week in week out with its consistently excellent food, fantastic coffee, and cheerful wait staff. The food is your standard Melbourne breakfast fare, well done!
What can I say, # is one of the best brunch cafes in Melbourne. Everything on the menu is pretty much spectacular, and ‘12 Hour Short Rib’ is beyond this planet. The rib was falling apart soft, grains were beautifully crunchy and just can’t get enough. Coffee is also great and I’ll be back to try the remaining dishes on the menu.
coffee is great. hot chocolate is average but looks interesting. I ordered one with duck and it is delicious. Burger is also fine. But French toast with maple is very sweet although the bacon inside is salty. Plssss don’t try Golden latte. Don’t! It tasted like a mix of many many spices. Very weird
Worthy of a visit, this cafe brings inspiration and cutting edge originality on making a coffee shop more than just a coffee shop. The staff here seem genuinely happy to be working here and it really shows in their attitude and their service. The food and drinks were great but unusual. Happy birthday to super friendly smiley girl. I really enjoyed my different experience here.
Amazing lane way cafe! The house special hot chocolate was indeed very special! Watching the fairy floss melt in the hot chocolate was quite an experience. Food was great too. We tried the egg benny and the smoked chicken salad, both were very tasty and generous in size and very reasonably priced. We will definitely come back.
Fantastic coffee, both cold brewed and hot. Food was also excellent, a little slow but the place was packed. Definitely worth a try if you're a big coffee fan
We went to Hash to celebrate my husband's birthday. We received the best service - from booking the order all the way through to leaving. We were given the mezzanine all to ourselves and it was such a special celebration. Danson was great throughout the whole booking process, and the two ladies who gave us table service were so accommodating and helpful. The food was so tasty and moreish, and apparently the coffee was really good. The hot chocolate was also a lot of fun. Would highly recommend this place for a breakfast/lunch and cannot thank the staff enough for their amazing hospitality.
Great atmosphere and service. Food is good. Love the truffle mushrooms with polenta fries. Hash chocolate is tasty too. You can request for more milk if u don’t like it too thick, at no extra cost.
The coffee is excellent. The matcha and iced chocolate is good too. The food was average. Had the pork brik and crab souffle which tasted alright but may have been heavy handed in the crab and sweetness respectively. Try the meringue for a sweet dessert in the morning.
