Had an incredible dining experience at Caddie. It's a minimal yet refined venue that's a welcome addition to the Richmond dining scene. Each dish was made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients, with several nice veggie dishes to choose from. I was stunned by the lupini beans, which are a briny cross between corn and garbonzos. Apparently they are a classic bar snack in parts of Latin America. I can also vouch for the carrots with bread salt as well as the beetroot with a salted plum on a bed of yoghurt. I'm not a huge beetroot fan but this was divine. Finally, a decadent but appropriately sized dark chocolate mousse with pear finished me off. Although the dishes at Caddie may seem basic, the sheer quality and preparation of each ingredient sets the menu above the rest. They don't do a wide range, but they do it all incredibly well.
Lovely boutique venue with fantastic staff. Small menu, yet on point, which changes frequently. Very loyal in produce and beverage acquisition and all must have a connect story. Feels like a you could frequent often for the experience and enjoy a different style each time. Great for a long lunch.
The BEST food on Swan St Richmond. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The omelette and the pumpkin mouse are amazing!!! Can't wait to come back!!!!
Richmond favourite Meatmother closed earlier this year, and it didn’t take long for a replacement, Caddie, to pop up in its place. Caddie is owner/chef Dylan Evans’ first restaurant and he brings a wealth of experience to the venue, having worked in the kitchen at Noma (Copenhagen), Manresa (Los Gatos), Alinea (Chicago), and Fargo & Co (Melbourne).
Had an enjoyable dinner at Caddie on Friday night. Design is very sleek and the staff were absolutely lovely. The menu was nice but was fairly limited. Between 4 we shared the kingfish sashimi, the pork and the steak special as mains and the beetroot, the black cabbage and the chicken fat potatoes as sides. The food was pleasant and all cooked well but no dish was overly memorable flavour wise. Still a good option for a slightly finer dining option on Swan street though.
Amazing, came here for lunch on a Thursday. At first I was the only person dining then another table of two came along. I had the lunch special which was 3 courses for $30, very decently priced. Had the house made bread with butter curd, delicious. As for the mains, I had a choice between pasta with pine mushrooms or a breaded chicken, obviously I chose the pasta. And it didn’t disappoint, good flavours and the pasta was al dente. As for dessert, it was a quince & almond cake with cultured cream. Nice not too sweet. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch and would love to return for dinner!
Located on Richmond’s bustling Swan Street, Caddie is perhaps, one of the most exciting Melbourne restaurant openings this year. The brainchild of Chef Dylan Evans whose resume includes stints at some of the best restaurants in the world including Noma (Denmark), Manresa (LA), Alinea (Chicago) as well as Melbourne’s staple watering holes – State of Grace and Fargo and Co., Caddie is a venue which is versatile enough to take you from a drink at the bar over some snacks to a decadent long dinner.
Just popped into the bar downstairs here for a drink, such a cute little set up. The owner was at the bar and was really lovely and gave us tastes of some of the unique spirits they have on offer. Chardonnay was really nice. Would love to come back for dinner, maybe a vegetarian main dish could be added to the menu
Caddie is not what we expected to find in Swan Street Richmond. It's neat and smart with a bar downstairs and dining upstairs. We were impressed by the linen napkins, stylish flatware and attentive drinks service on arrival, but even more so by the intricate detail and delicate flavors presented in dish after dish. We were lucky to dine with a group of 6, so tried everything on the menu (I'd recommend this!). It's a place to linger as long as you can, so start early and take your time!
Absolutely loved the service. The girls were super friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious (carbonara was creamy and the stake was cooked just right), and the cocktails were great. Nice bar for Friday night catch-ups. We were seated upstairs but downstairs had seating if you have accessibility concerns.
The girls here are really amazing here! They make you feel at home and welcomed! Darked haired girl with tats on her arm, is super nice and such a great bartender. Will 100% be coming back as long she makes my drinks ;)
Gourmet food expertly crafted and plated at an affordable price. A cozy atmosphere, with a beautiful style.
My absolute must tries are the crispy pork belly, Lamb on Potato and Truffle mash and the Fungi Gnocchi! (All pictured below!)
Pictures are worth a thousand words. Just look at these!
Will be back in a heartbeat.
A pleasant and interesting early evening meal.
We began our shared meal with lupini boiled in a brine. A good starter, but the portion was too much for two to just nibble on. Then we ordered 5 small and side dishes.
The barramundi omlette was absolutely delicious and very moreish. So too the salmon pastrami - a seriously good dish.
Incredibly crunchy roasted potatoes, and the black cabbage with an anchovy crumb also were also beautifully cooked and presented. Our last plate of beetroot interleaved with persimmon and almond cream was very rich and quite disappointing. The beetroot was subtle and delicious but was overwhelmed and made neglible by both the persimmon and the cream. Not a successful flavour combination at all (even if it looked wonderful.)
We drank sparkling water and a glass of wine each. The service was responsive and good, and the menu offered an interesting and satisfactory range of flavours. We didn't feel like meats or pastas, so the meat free meal we chose was a successful experiment.
All up a couple of hours well spent. Total cost was $100 including our tip.
