Review Meat The Greek Souvlaki Bar - Melbourne

Makis K.
Excellent service, one of the best and freshest Greek salads I ever had, chips with feta average, cheap feta, nice shop, I went there for the pork gyros souvlaki though, My local souvlaki shop doesn’t have pork so I have been traveling a bit for it, they all have been well below average, the same here! Lots of meat but dry, no flavour at all, I’m amazed and disappointed that so many Greek souvlaki shops in Melbourne can’t do a decent pork gyros!!!

No need to travel to to the east/Oakleigh anymore for a quality souvlakia when there's this place in the west. Just like I ate in Athens, lean, tender, seasoned marinated meat, hot chips, fresh salad and a very generous serving all wrapped in hot pita. Was very filling and tasty and not thirsty afterwards, a good sign the ingredients, plus preparation are quality. Back for sure

Tried the mixed chicken and pork platter. Meat was cooked well, pita was good too. Friendly staff and the place is clean and inviting with greek music playing in the background. Chips could have been cooked a little more, but everything was really nice.

Taste was exellent. Will definitely come back!

Loved it! I had the pork platter and it was delicious. Good portions for cheap. Such a good vibe in the shop and super friendly staff. Looks like we've finally got ourselves a great souv in the west but get in early because they sell out!

Had a Greek salad with meat on top (I chose half chicken half pork), I’m loving every bite. The feta is good quality, the veges are fresh and he meat is full of flavour. Staff was friendly and welcoming and very prompt to prepare my order. Definitely recommend it, will be back here with friends.

First and foremost, I did order with uber eats (although I'm only 5 minutes away so the temperature of the food shouldn't have been affected too bad...) I ordered two chicken souvlakis and chips with feta. First issue was one souvlaki was noted not to have paprika although that note went unnoticed. Second thing was the meat was definelty cold. Cold enough that even the 5 minute delivery time shouldn't have affected it as bad as it was. The meat was tasty, however cold. The cheese wasn't all melted and some of it was still refrigerator style cold. Next thing, chips were absolutely and most definelty cold. They looked like very good chips, appeared nice and yellow but either way the temperature was not on their side. The feta was very finely crumbed and only over one section of the chips. Wasn't enough to spread around with the rest of the large chips. Mind you, the large wasn't really a 'large'... All in all I'm happy to give them another go, possibly in store this time to eliminate any risk of the cold food again. I order quite frequently with uber eats from various places and very rarely get cold food but oh well. I'm a regular at another local Seddon gyros establishment which will always be my number one. I'll give these guys a go again one day but it may not be for a while.

Great vibes! Food came out super quickly. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Meat was juicy and there are delicious chips inside the gyros! Will be coming back very soon for sure!

Got Deliveroo. Some of the nicest chips I’ve ever eaten. They were hot and perfectly seasoned. Pita bread was fresh and the chicken was delicious.

Had ubereats from here, and food was delicious (I had the pork and chicken gyros platter), generous portions too. I would give 5 starts if they had a lamb option on the menu!

We had an open chicken souvlaki and saganaki. The taste was just an average, would be better if there was some greens in the platter. Saganaki was good but a little bit salty. There are way better places to eat souvlaki in Melbourne. Staff was friendly.

Came out to Meat The Greak with a few mates and had a great time. The platter was amazing, generous portions and the pork gyro was just like i had in greece. Will definently be back!

The parking was terrible had to circle around a few times then when I found a spot they tell me they're out of meat WTF I won't be going there again what a waste of time maybe next time shut the shop

After a resounding Groupon deal, we decided we absolutely had to try out Meat the Greek in Seddon on a warm summers evening in Melbourne. Located in an otherwise unassuming area, this restaurant boasts some inviting interior decor, and some good souvlakis.

We ordered a pork gyros, chicken, and also chips today - here is what we thought! The pork gyros was decent. Good meats, juicy in aspects with Tzatziki sauce lathered inbetween. What we really liked was the salads used. Often places overdo it with salads, but here, a perfect amount being (not too much) tomato and onions made it a very welcoming flavour on our pallette. The chicken meat was also succulent and juicy, with both bread wraps soft and holding in the flavours well. The chips were okay, not crunchy and more on the potato-y side, but we did still enjoy it.

Decent souvlakis in a nice pocket of Seddon. Good meats and reasonable prices!

Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Value: 3.5/5

Overall: 3.5/5
FOOD TRIP
Meat the Greek is a cute little soulvaki bar located in Seddon. The eatery is clean and simple with comfy seating. Food is good but portions are on the smaller end. Probably wouldn't be back. Mixed Gyros Soulvaki Wrap with Chicken and Lamb $12. Great pita bread and good combination of ingredients. The chips was an interesting addition to the wrap. Size was a bit small and on the pricier end for what you get ★★☆

We came here with a Groupon - I have to say the staff was a stand out on this front, we were treated like an ordinary customer.

We ordered two chicken gyros and two sides of chips.

The chips were great with the herbs and one would be enough for two for a big + on the value there.

The gyros, however, were somewhat of a disappointment.

The gyros leaked oil. so much oil in fact that it was running out as if it poured it out of a bottle.

It just went everywhere, all over my partner's trousers.

I called over one of the staff members and asked her if it was normal to be this oily.

She said they are usually oily, however not that oily. She also said that she didn't work in the kitchen so didn't really know... - Bad excuse this one. all staff should know the product they are selling regardless if they are in the kitchen or not.

She was quick to offer an exchange though for both. However, they had run out of chicken, so offered us a free side or drink, that we refused.

I got a pork replacement and it wasn't as oily.

The food taste was great though. Could use a bit more tzatziki.

I would come here again at full price and support the business, as long as it's not too oily again.

Popped into this little gem and were quite amazed. Our kids are picky little eaters and they devoured the meat like they hadn’t eaten in a week. It because they were hungry but because it had flavour. Saganaki was delicious. Ambience awesome. We will definitely return.

Came in for lunch and grabbed a pork plate and chicken gyros. While both were great the pork was a standout. So tasty and full of flavour. Not super loaded with garlic either which is refreshing. The restaurant itself had people coming and going and everyone seemed to be getting their food in good time. The pita is really soft and pillowy but isn't homemade like you can find around other greek places in the area, however still really tasty.

Food was delicious and delivery time was quick. They got the extra star though due to such fantastic customer service. We ordered four bifteki’s and got a call 5 minutes later saying that they literally only have 3 left in stock. They were quick to apologise, offer a refund on the single bifteki and also throw in a pork meat pack.... all this before I had a chance to say a word.
Gone here for lunch. Great food. Amount is acceptable for lunch. Meat wasn’t too oily and cacik was a little too much garlic.

Parking is good.

Recommend if you want to try something different.

We tried Meat the Greek for the first time tonight, it was average. The staff were lovely & attentive however the food was a little bit disappointing. Coming from a greek background we expected chunky pieces of juicy flavoursome meat, generous serving of tzatziki & fresh lemon to squeeze on the side. Unfortunately we got the complete opposite, shaved small dry pieces of meat, under seasoned, no lemon to squeeze & a tiny side serving of tzatziki. We can definitely see the potential here but won’t be returning any time soon for what we tried tonight. We are excited to have Yiros in the west but a little TLC wont go astray. Great service though.

Souvas have finally landed in the west side! After hearing about this place open in the west side we had to go! The restaurant is small and doesn’t accomodate for big groups as the tables are small but it’s a great place to grab lunch or dinner with a few friends. We had the original pork gyros filled with an amazing amount of meat and chips and delicious tzatziki. They only serve chicken and pork here (apparently lamb isn’t traditional) so it’s as traditional as a Greek souva can get.

Can’t wait to go back!

Started off with the chicken souvlaki, great proportion for a souvlaki, there were some bits of the chicken that were perfectly cooked and some weren’t. Fresh ingredients however needed more flavour. The feta chips were delicious, crunchy and fresh.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
Take your lover, friends and family for a quick souvlaki in the west of Melbourne.

Saddled on over after work with a mate for a quick feed and catchup.

Interior is quite small but welcoming with a few tables inside and out for a nice dine in experience.

Todays choice, a good ol souvlaki. . . Greek style (gyros) make it a pork please good sir!

A well presented kebab with chunky bite size pieces of pork with chips thrown in the mix. If what you're chasing is a greasy type hangover kebab this is definitely not for you.

What came to my mind was a "healthy" clean kebab that didn't give you that dirty feeling afterwards. It was fairly average tasting however, a tad bit more garlic sauce would have given each bite a little more flavour.

Would i return? Their sliders sounded quite appetizing and would like to try it next time. However i would opt for other places for a kebab/gyros. All in all a nice place for a sit down and catchup with well presented food and welcoming staff.

I've had the pork souvlaki twice and have been very impressed. $9 is excellent value, and everything was fresh and tasty. The kids' souvlakis are amazing value for $6, although they could do with perhaps a couple of pieces of tomato and/or cucumber to make them slightly healthier. We sat in and fed our family of 4 wonderfully prepared food for $30 - it doesn't get any cheaper or better than that. Would LOVE to see lamb added to the menu.

We went on a Thursday night. It was so busy but that didn't affect the quality of the food. We had the saganaki and pork gyros wraps. WOW! The quality of the meat is fantastic and the tzatziki is so yummy. You can tell that it's homemade. We waited about 20 minutes for the food but it was totally worth it. My new favourite local. Well done guys and welcome to the neighbourhood.

Such a good alternative to all the fancy restaurants in Seddon! Delicious, cheap and friendly service. I've been there twice now and both times were quality!

Pretty good for a local option, however the service has been pretty slow the last few times I have went but will give them the benefit of the doubt that it is still new and learning the ropes

I really, really, really wanted to love this place. I was really, really, really underwhelmed. Pricey souvies that were pretty ordinary. The feta chips are the most vile, soggy, cold concoction I've ever encountered. The saganaki was fine, but honey just isn't my thing so wouldn't get it again in a hurry. I would normally attempt a "do-over", but with 2 recently opened greek establishments in the area, for now, the computer says no.

Overall it was just okay. Service was slow. Meat wasn't extremely tasty or juicy. Chips were average. Serving size was generous and price was good. But not amazing Greek
