Review Momo Sushi - Melbourne

Peter Behrendorff
Nice staff and atmosphere and great with our kids who eat lots of sushi and miso soup - Momo is quick take away or dine in, cheap and healthy. Teriyaki and spicy prawn are our favorites 😋

Favourite takeaway sushi place around Carlton! I come here during work almost every day as the sushi is fresh, tasty and the staff are so friendly. Thank you for accommodating me.

I loved the zesty tofu roll. A refreshing take on other vegetarian rolls available, overall a super cute little shop for some quick food

Momo is not just a sushi place it is a cultural institution where we derive meaning from. I have momo with divas every single day and camp outside every night for the open. Momo is truly incredible and I am glad to have invested in momomoon token!

An incredibly cheap student hangout found on Cardigan Street, about a 5 minute walk from Melbourne University, its entire range of Japanese food is under $10 and you get a very generous serving for how much you pay. Hard to find a table when it's busy, but they also offer outdoor seating for more choice. Food is delicious and fast!

They have really good onigiri, it's almost the same as the ones in Japan! The sushi rolls are okay, I can say they are better than many other sushi maki stalls here(except Tokui..uhh so good..). It's really convenient especially when you need to eat something but you are running late. Thus, it's a great place to drop by to get some food before class!

One of the best sushi places in Melbourne food is always fresh and of the highest quality. If you want some good healthy lunch this is the place for you.

Been here a few times as I study at the royal dental hospital, a great place to greatly some good sushi 👍my all time favourite would definitely have to be the eel roll and spicy fish roll. Highly recommend anyone that wants good sushi while on the run.

Pretty innovative sushi available, although they aren't quite fresh. Dropped by around 2pm and got the salmon sashimi and prawn with wasabi. The salmon sashimi one didn't taste quite right. Also, had to pay extra for wasabi, which is definitely odd given that sushi is usually eaten with wasabi (it's like charging extra for putting oil in fried rice). The prawn with wasabi was pretty good, albeit a big soggy. Staff was pretty friendly and didn't rush you like those in major sushi chains. Would definitely come back to grab a quick bite next time.

A variety of sushi rolls to offer.
A lot of options for Vegans as well.
I didn't like the chicken teriyaki roll, it didn't taste fresh. Otherwise the usual sushi rolls are good to try. Pocket friendly rates as well.

Quick korean sushi takeaway and eat-in place popular with students and people working nearby. The salmon onigiri, which is one of the best onigiri I had in Melbourne (at $3.80) gets snapped up very quickly so get them before lunchtime. The soft shell crab roll is also very popular here. If you prefer to have brown rice sushi, they have them here as well. I would not recommend eat-in as the ventilation isn't great and your clothes will smell of soft shell crab if you stay.

Didn't have a really good impression of Momo Sushi. The first time, I ordered 1 salmon roll and 1 cooked tuna roll. There were terrible, soooo bland and the consistency of the rice doesn't seem right. I've never had such bland sushi rolls in my life. But then my friend said that she's been here several times before and usually orders the soft shell crab and the wasabi prawn.
Since she said that those 2 are really good, I decide to give Momo Sushi another try and I'm glad I did.
The soft shell crab roll and the wasabi prawn roll are so tasty, so much better than the salmon and tuna one. Service is friendly and quick. If you come around lunch time, it is likely that there won't be any table left.
Will go back but not for the salmon and tuna roll.

Ate here for a quick lunch. Got one of their teriyaki sushi variants as well as the soft shell crab. Both were really good and tasted nice and fresh! 👍

People behind the counter were nice and accommodating. 😊

The sushi here is freshly made every morning by hand by the friendly man who works here. The salmon is obviously freshly and properly sliced, and the tofu is fresh and moist, not fried. I love how it opens early enough for me to grab breakfast (when staying in Carlton) before hopping on the tram when I've slept in and and running late! $8 credit card minimum otherwise 50c extra charge - so bring cash with you.

Love the sushi here... always fresh and service with a smile. potato croquettes sushi are awesome. I would not get the blue swimmer crab sushi as it smelt bad and did not taste good.

Not too bad for a quick eat... Quite a large variety of different sushis to suit buyers' palettes. Imo, the salmon onigiri is good and filling!

Every time I come here, the sushi is always cold and service has been lovely!! They make really nice Tuna and Corn sushi as well as Thai Chicken! Haven't come across these flavours before, so its nice to find them here

This is an easy to get by eatery on Swanston Street to grab myself some yummy sushi. My favourites are smoked salmon roll and carbstick inari ^_^

Momo sushi has been voted one of Carlton best sushi places. It has been opened for two years and already people really like it. It is popular with the Uni Melbourne kids. They are featured in Meld Magazine Little book of discounts. They have 10% off their total bill. And today they also had another discount of $1 miso soup with any two sushis you buy. The guy that was working there was Japanese but didn't speak good English. They have eat in and takeaway. But this is more like a fast food place with the fact that there is hardly any service. Their sushis are fresh. I could see them making the sushi from scratch. I had one inari, one miso soup and two sushis. Altogether it was $8.50. The sushi was fresh and the rice was flavorsome. But the only one that I didn't like was the cold tofu with alfalfa one which tasted bland and awkward. But I loved the seaweed inari. The rice was plentiful and there was plenty of flavour to this. Moreover it was fresh. I loved the cucumber and tofu one- tha

I asked Robin his secret ingredient for his mayo and he wouldn’t tell me.

Patrick. I was calling the shop early morning on 15/10/14 and asked the staff(male) who picked up the phone whether they are now open. He said yes so I was heading to the shop and found out that the sushi still not ready.

The guy also said that the sushi is not ready for sale with moody face. I was a bit upset and asked him why you said on the phone you are now open? He said yes we are open but the food is not ready for sale! wtf!

You should have train your staff to be more professional about the opening time and service mind. I'm not coming here to see you make a sushi roll or watching your unhappy face.

Raw Salmon. This is the best !! And don't forget to try soft shell crab too

Discovered Momo today. Soft shell crab was delicious as well as chicken terriyaki & raw salmon. So much more to choose from & I'm going to become a regular here.

Love soft shell crab. Not nice services.. I love the soft shell crab there. The best I've had so far in Melbourne. However, from time to time, the female staff there was not speaking to customers nicely. I understand that the staff was trying to get the service moving fast so they can serve more customers, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to customers nicely, not yelling with a bad mood face.

Okay. Decent sushi (love the soft-shell crab and inari), but the udon leaves much to be desired with its watery bland soup base and meagre offering of noodles.

Size issues?. Is it just me or have the very tasty sushi rolls at Momo shrunk recently?

Great onigiri. I wish momo was around when I was studying at Melb uni. It's so fantastic, no 'rice on steroids' -esque sushi. Delicious fresh onigiri with crunchy nori wrap (kept so with a fancy plastic wrapper which divides the nori from the rice so it doesn't get soggy ! - genius).

# 1. First bite into the sushi roll and you can tell how fresh it is. They must have a secret ingredient in the rice too, it has a sweeter softer texture, melts in your mouth. It is always busy at lunch time, the Uni is just down the road, and some days they seem to run out well before 2pm, but if you're lucky there is a few good ones left by 3! Addictive. My favourite sushi in Melbourne, I wish they'd open another store at the other end of the city though.

Great sushi + coffee + friendly staff. Best spider roll and spicy prawn sushi ever. Every bite's memorable! Smiley staff and aromatic coffee complements the whole timber crafted shop. Highly recommended!

Cocktail Party. I hosted a cocktail party last Friday and wanted to serve some sushi in the mix. I hunted around for a place with a good reputation that made fresh sushi daily. Robin was really helpful with the order and everything was ready when I arrived. The sushi was delicious, really fresh and lots of variety. So I can say it was totally worth driving from the western suburbs in Friday afternoon traffic to pick it up before the party.

Sushi is made fresh daily with a smile. Staff is always attentive and ready to give advice on what sushi roll suits your taste. Been a regular customer for the past year or so and will always come here for my sushi roll cravings.

Fresh sushi hand rolls. I've recently become a regular at Momo Sushi. This place has some seriously good sushi - probably one of the freshest sushi rolls I've had in a while. I usually order their popular teriyaki and crispy chicken. Their salmon onigiri is really good too with its unique film seaweed wrap that keeps the seaweed fresh and crispy.
They also have some seriously bizarre rolls such as the sweet and spicy chicken and pork floss which were surprisingly good!

On the downside, this place closes bloody early. Get there after 2pm and chances are they are sold out. I recommend getting in early or calling them up to book your rolls cos they sell out really fast during their busy lunch rush.

If you were from Melbourne University, you would remember the sushi + coffee combination from an age old establishment within the campus. Well guess what, MoMo Sushi serves some quality sushi, ramen and coffee! The owner-operator is relentless about making good coffee. An investment in a Synesso machine speaks volume about his commitment to his passion for the artform. With coffee sourced from the renowned Five Senses Coffee, you can't go wrong. Also hIghly recommend the Kakiage Ramen if you're up for some winter warmer lunch!

Good 'sushi', excellent coffee. Momo has an interesting variety of their take on 'sushi', but it is apparent that its owner(s) take pride in the quality of food (and beverages) being served.

The sushi there is always fresh (no stale leftovers), and the coffee is, well, at a high standard that will NEVER be expected of a sushi shop.

(Coffee geeks out there: they have a 2 group Synesso which the staff actually know how to operate).

I highly recommend the beef bulgolgi and the sweet & spicy chicken sushi rolls.

A while back a bunch of Melbourne food bloggers got together and hunted around for Melbourne's best ramen. If Twitter's not playing up, you can probably find live updates of these adventures by doing a search for the hashtag #ramenhunters . I finally had
