My go-to hotpot place in Melbourne! Da Long Yi offers an extensive menu choices. Their spicy soup is no joke - If you think you can handle spicy food well, you have to try this to prove yourself😂 I always love a good spicy hotpot but their 'Little spicy' is more like extra spicy to me. Literally couldn't feel my tongue after this meal 🥵 Their non-spicy soup bases were very flavourful too.
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Food: Standard.
Service: Above average.
Ambience: 5 stars
Value: 2 stars.
Would have been 5 stars if it wasn't so pricey.
literally my go to hot pot place in Melbourne! They just have the best spicy soup stock and a variety of choices on the menu! - they also have the choice to get half size for some food choices which makes it perfect when you don’t want too much of something! I recommend this place if you’re looking to have a hearty meal in Melbourne! 🥰
Chilli and controversy – the two main ingredients stirring the big hot pot at Da Long Yi. The two-storey restaurant on Elizabeth street presents the ultimate Sichuan Hot Pot experience that’ll have you sweating, laughing and rubbing your big full belly at the end.
Hailing from Cheng-Du, China, Szechuan Spicy Hot Pot started in 2013 bringing classic, deep-spiced soup bases and exotic ingredients. Da Long Yi has launched over 210 franchises in China, US, New Zealand and Australia – it’s safe to say the world has truly fallen in love with Chengdu’s flavour.
Welcoming the new year of the rat, Da Long Yi hosted an elegant dinner banquet starting with crispy pork, spicy beef jerky and chicken with chilli sauce. Then for the main even, the glorious hot pot. There are two soup bases: the Sichuan spicy – claimed to be medium spicy level but it’s actually more like supernova extreme spicy level – and the classic fish soup – full of collagen and great for your skin.
Platters upon platters of goodies are served to plonk into the soups, including meatballs, seafood balls, tofu slices and vegetables. But the star of the show is always the Wagyu beef slices fashioned on a Lady Gaga-esque Barbie doll. Controversial? Yes. Hilarious? Absolutely! (It’s all over Instagram already!). At this point in our banquet, we were drenched in sweat (there’s SO much chilli oil) and our faces hurt from cacking ourselves.
The desserts are simple but classic: fried glutinous cake with brown sugar. It’s super chewy, sweet and warm, essentially everything you want in a dessert to soothe the spicy attack on your tastebuds.
Gong Xi Fa Cai! Celebrate Chinese New Year with the latest hot pot in town.
Situated on Elizabeth Street, Da Long Yi Hot Pot Australia, specialises in Schezuan spicy hot pot that is native to ChengDu, China.
I had received an invite to check out their New Year celebrations and also enjoy the delicious hot pot. The Schezuan broth is super spicy (ooh but I loved it!), but don't worry, there are other broth options for those who are not so adventurous. Also a variety of ingredients to choose from to customize your hotpot.
Da Long Yi Hotpot is a great authentic hotpot in the CBD, although it is a bit pricey the interior is really nice and the soup broths are deep and flavourful. Beware as the Sichuan little spice is definitely super spicy even for me! Definitely get a Sichuan soup as it is their best soup however if you can’t handle spice, I recommend getting another soup base like mushroom soup and mixing the two. The meatballs were homemade and delicious and sliced beef set very nice! They had a promotion for a free soup base when I went there which took $30 off our bill making it very affordable, however without that it could be a bit pricey but well worth your money!

Very popular place and prompt service. the food is presented well. A bit pricy but lots of selection.
You could select the non spicy soup base.
Amazing and helpful staff members that advised us which level of spiciness is recommended for my partner and I. The Sichuan soup for the hot pot is definitely very spicy, that’s why the servers advised the least level of spiciness. The beef, lamb, and pork were extremely fresh, and the servers are always helpful to sort the hot pot out for us. Keep up the fantastic food!

Verdict: 👍
A big place for a hot pot. The waitress was kind enough to warn us the spicy original would be very spicy which unfortunately was not for us. Couldn’t find fish balls in the menu. The veg platter was a bit diappointing with varieties of leafy vegetables. Other places serve other stuffs like corn n all.
The main downside was $3 per person for the dips.
Very oriental and red interior. Expect great service.
The mushroom soup is recommended. Very flavorful and comes with some sliced mushrooms. It gets topped up along the way. The less spicy option of the spicy and mushroom was quite spicy for myself. Packed with Sichuan peppers and chilis.
The sliced pork belly and beef is thinly sliced. The spicy spare ribs are covered in a thick layer of chilli but has minimal meat.
I was really craving a Chinese hotpot and stumbled upon this place. I must say the interior is very pretty. We got the spicy tomato and mushroom soup base and I have to say my lips were numb despite getting just a little spicy. The meat cake in with dry ice and it was nice for the instagram story haha. I have to say it was quite pricey and the wait was long so make sure you book beforehand but overall this is a really nice place to go with family and would definitely go again it was a nice experience.
Loved the experience! There was a wide range of dishes but level one spice is spicier than you think yet was still nice to have. Very convenient to have a Gotcha Tea right next door so highly recommend this place!
Ordered a few dishes but didn’t take a pic because we were too hungry. The duck intestine was delicious and our foreign friends like the fish and also the fresh beef. The taste was good and not much MSG in the soup which was surprising me. Good service and reasonable price.
absolutely love this place! the atmosphere is beautiful and the customer service is wonderful. it’s a pretty place to take photos, and to go out into large groups. you don’t even feel like you’re in melbourne!! amazing!
It's winter and we're all craving hotpot. These days, the first thing I do is check Liven to see what's on offer that I haven't tried. We settled on Da Long Yi as at the time of this review, they were providing customers with 15% cashback.
They only had two sessions running - 5:30PM and 7PM. I was immediately impressed as I walked in to the main reception area, which links to the Gotcha next door. As we walked into the main seating area, you could see that they've put in a lot of effort into making the decor look grand and amazing!
We ordered the split pot with the 2 flavours being Mushroom and Medium Spicy. Of all things to be awed by, it was the pot. True to the name of the restaurant, there were 2 dragons as the handles of the pot and it was also one pretty solid pot.
We ordered the Spicy Beef Slices, Quail Eggs, Beancurd, Vegetable platter, Meat Platter (Lamb and Beef), Pork Slices, Shrimp Dumping and the noodles. All in all, the presentation for each dish looked amazing, particularly the cute bicycle for the vegetables and yet another dragon ornament for the meat platter. The only dish I wasn't so keen on was the Spicy Beef Slices. Even though it was cooked in the soup, it still had the crunchy texture to it as you would expect from chilli flakes and none of my companions were keen on the taste of it either. Furthermore on a side note, I felt that the decorations were a great distraction to the portion sizes of each dish. For example, under all the impressive looking meat dishes was a substantial stack of ice at the bottom. The amount of sauces (this is an extra charge per person and when one person orders it, everyone else has to as well) was undeniably substantial and there were so many options to choose from, right down to the sesame oil cans.
I felt it was a little bit pricey for the amount that you get. After the 15% Liven discount, it ended up being about $30 per person, but I wouldn't say that I was full after the meal. However, I will concede that the quality of food is on par with Dainty Sichuan's Hot pot but better value for money. The hotpot broth was great too and I didn't feel super thirsty afterwards (which generally coincides with too much MSG) .
Overall, I did enjoy my time here and I will happily return again.
I was recently invited to the launch of a luxurious $99 bubble tea cocktail at a hot pot restaurant. It sounds like a strange combination but it worked so well. The Melbourne branch of bubble tea chain, Gotcha, is next door to the Melbourne outpost of the international chain of colourful hot pot restaurants: Da Long Yi.
Da Long Yi Hot Pot was the perfect backdrop for the launch. Guests indulged in a delicious winter warming Hot Pot Dinner and went home with some new Gotcha offerings including a new metal resuseable straw and vegan leather bubble cup carry bag - perfect for the bubble cup enthusiast!
One of my go to place for chinese hotpot. My fave broth is their mushroom and tomato based. Ingredients are well presented and fresh. Cannot wait to go back.
This was really great first experience, thy got us seated really fast, and there was a large selection of food. The soup bases were great, we got the tomato and spicy one, and the staff consistently filled it up which was great. The only issue was that several of the staff constantly spoke chinese to me which meant that I couldn't always understand them. Nevertheless, with 4 overstuffed teenagers and a bit of leftovers, 45$ each was an insanely good price. Tip: order a bit less at the beginning, you can always build up to it
Always craving for hotpot in the cold weather. Went there with my sister on Monday night. It was fairly busy. Place is very spacious and good ventilated. They have a joint store with Gotcha and you can enjoy bubble milk tea while having your hotpot as well.
We tried spicy sichuan and pickled veggies soups with little spicy option. However, it was still very spicy in my opinion. We enjoyed all toppings that we chose for our hotpot. Also, we ordered glutinous rice with brown sugar to balanced out the spiciness.
Will I be back? Surely!
An absolute pleasure to dine here. Our group has an obsession with hotpot and this place is ranked up the top 2 (for now) out of many hotpot places we've had in Melbourne. Soup base was nice - always go for the double - flavored (mushroom and spicy). We initially chose the Original Spicy but the waiter suggested it was extremely hot so we went for the Medium instead. Big mistake, it wasn't on the extreme at all (we have had spicer) so if you can handle the heat - GO BIG.
Toppings were the usual: lamb, beef, tripes, quail egg, fish fillets, mushroom, mixed balls, fresh minced prawn ball (a must have), crispy fried pork, ...
Great atmosphere, great presentation, helpful and attentive staff (and they speak English - a plus when you go into these hotpot places)
Sauces were $3/pp
RMB to book your table and enjoy
Visited this place for hotpot craving. I ordered mushroom soup and spicy soup. The mushroom soup was good and the spicy soup was a bit spicy for me. On the menu they teach us how long to cook the meat which is good for people who don’t know how to cook. Overall is a good place for hotpot but price is expensive compared with the portion of the food.
Been here twice now and both times were great experience. Food here is delicious, service is friendly. It is also helpful they put he reconsider cooking time on the meat.
Decided to warm up with a hotpot & went on a weekday evening. Beautiful dragon themed oriental interior & staff were very attentive. As per our waitresses suggestion we went with the lowest spicy level & thank god we did. That hot pot was really spicy. Lip numbing hot spicy flavors beautifully harmonious with oily liquid perfectly marinate & cooks thinly sliced meat. All dishes presented well with beautifully garnish. Good quality ingredients & fresh. Staff were attentive in service. Don’t forget order the “dragon fish” dish had beautifully texture filled inside with prawn paste. Menu has info about how long we should cook each ingredients. Though I felt the extent of the menu not that huge, I felt they kept everything fresh & well presented. Vegetables for instance very fresh compared to some of other places I have been. Pork belly had rich fatty texture served with thin sliced of cucumber matched perfectly. I think overall one of the best hotpot places I have been. Considering food quality, taste, presentation, ambiance, service against price gives an overall score of 4.2*
Great place for hotpot when your in the city very big and atmosphere very chilled. The soup was crazy spicy couldn’t do it but there the tomato base soup which is perfect for people that can’t handle spice.
Mushroom & Spice Soup : 😁 Great
Smooth Beef Slice : 😍 Amazing
Basa Fish : 😍 Amazing
Beef Tendon : 😁 Great
Meatball Platter : 😊 Good
Here there are various different soups to choose from. There are two that you can choose and we chose the mushroom soup and on the other side we chose ‘little spicy’. Mind you it had a picture with two chillies on it but if you can see in the photo I think they meant 200 chillies. It was crazy hot and we basically all died. The top sides to choose I recommend would be the signature smooth beef slices and the Basa Fish Fillets. Once cooked, they just melt in your mouth and depending on your choice of soup and sauce, the flavours can be incredible.
We decided to come here to celebrate my brother’s birthday, and we’re very glad we made a good choice! There have been a lot of Sichuan hot pot restaurants opening up in the city lately, however this one really tops a lot of them!
Upon arrival, we were greeted kindly by the staff and seated promptly. The venue is clean and spacious, with traditional wooden seats and tables. The restaurant is connected to Gotcha next door so it’s very convenient to enjoy a bubble tea with your hot pot!
The menu is interesting as it has the time needed to cook each dish in the pot. They specialise in beef and there’s a good variety of it - from wagyu to ribs to tripe and more. It would’ve been even better if they had a larger variety of other meats and seafood though. Nonetheless, everything was delicious.
For the base, we opted for half mushroom and half spicy (medium spicy). The mushroom one is very flavourful and clean, whereas the spicy one was very strong, peppery and EXTREMELY spicy! If you’re a spicy fan, then you’ll love this!
We ordered a number of dishes, but some of our main highlights were the Smooth Beef Slices, Kungfu Meatball, Fresh Minced Prawn, Square Bamboo Shoot, Fried Crispy Pork, and Fried Brown Sugar Glutinous Cake. Dishes are slightly on the expensive side, but portions are very generous.
The staff are super friendly, and the service is exceptionally quick. Also, because we were celebrating a birthday, they let us have a beef dish for free, as well as a 5% off for paying by cash. It was a wonderful experience and I’d gladly come back!

This is the first time ever I have given 5 stars for service. The service was very attentive. The waiters always came to check up on us and turned the plate around when we finished one side of the dish. Little things like that made the experience outstanding.
We ordered the tomato soup base and mushroom soup base. The broth was very light and flavoursome. The sauce selection was good, and they offered personal cans of sesame oil. The ingredients provided were standard and very well presented.
Overall, you really get what you pay for. This hotpot joint is more expensive than their competitors, but the service was excellent, ingredients were fresh, and soup base was delicious. My only complaint is that there were no noodles!
Good customer service and good food. Very fast and very easy. Love the selection of sauces and food. I like the idea of having how long it takes to receive the food or cook??? Not too sure but I like the idea. The only thing was that we got our food before our soup and I was like 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ but still good
I've never try such exotic Chinese style hotpot before which the red hotpot soup shocked me but it is worthy to have a try. There is various Chinese traditional herbs added in the soup which makes the soup tastes not only spicy but also special. Ox tripe is tasty and crisp. The beef is fabulous and vegetables are fresh.
Definitely exceeded my expectations. Soup broth that we ordered was half spicy and half mushroom. Fresh selection of sliced meats, tiger prawns, prawn ball paste, tofu, vegetables and other ingredients for the hot pot. Great tasting sauce selection. Only downside was that it was overall quite expensive for the food that was ordered.
It is a Good place for meeting friends. It provides Fresh food and excellent service. Great taste. Fantastic experience for me and my friends.
Comfortable seats and very clean environment with special Lamb and beef!Taste very well, and you would love it if to have a cup of Gotcha fruit tea together!
This real chengdu flavor is so closed to my uni, so convenient for lunch and dinner after such big loads of study! Decoration of the restaurant looks very traditional as well!
Throw back to the time when they were grand opening, I couldnt get a chance to have a taste!! but finally we made it with NO REGRETS! Absolutely a delight of a night going out!
Come back this hotpot restaurant again because they have new spicy soup. Green chill soup. Taste totally different with others soup, but it’s nice. 7/10 spicy, most people can taste it. Staffs are nice, good services.
Very Good!Fast and fresh!I love this potato soup !
Fantastic food and perfect service. Not only the famous branding and also professional staffs. I highly recommend the duck tongue and intestines.
This is the one of my favorite restaurant in Melbourne CBD. I really like the service and food they provided. Especially the Tomato soup and M8 beef. I recommend people come to try.
The food is very fresh and the service is very good. Because I don't like spicy food very much, I especially recommend the tomato pot. It is highly recommended wagyu.

attracted by the huge dragon, but after dinner, feel very good service and food. It worth to try the different food, the traditional Chinese hot pot , VERY VERY SPICY, if you want challenge yourself, TRY! HAHA
还有冰粉没有拍,但也超好吃的,解辣!the most amazing hotpot in melbourne ,good place to fave fun with friends!
It tastes very well,it is my first time to come here, the cattle stomach is very delicious. All the variety of dishes are beautiful!!!come on with friends!
😱Lizzie’s first impression: newly opened hotpot on Elizabeth st, this place sure makes a good first impression being situated on the corner and it’s dragon statues when you walk in.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: there was a large selection of produce to choose from - many of which I didn’t know existed. This place has come from China and so if you order a chilli soup base I can guarantee it will definitely be a little more spicier than the norm. The Chinese dessert was also another winner and perfect for post hotpot feast!
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: to be honest I’m not a fan of dipping the foods into the bowl of sesame oil (the traditional way of eating it) so I just opt for the other condiments and sauces instead.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for hotpot especially with a group on a cold day so you can try more of the dishes.
Best Hot Pot in Melbourne, highly recommend! must try!
Excellent service, fresh food , price reasonable
if you have like spicy , cannot miss out
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
fresh food with delicious taste. convenient place just near the melbourne central, walk for 3mins. Good to try in the winter. And you can bring drinks from Gotcha to have your hotpot.
Really nice taste, the flavor is very original, haven’t had a very good hot pot in a long time, but Da Long Yi hot pot has filled my long time craving for a great hot pot.
The service was great too, they are very friendly and helpful, keep asking what do we need and how is everything.
The ingredients are fresh, with the hot pot flavor plus the fresh food, a very great experience, definitely recommend and definitely will come again!!
very delicious. The food was great! The location is very convenient. It’s easy to find. The transportation is very convenient. The food material was fresh. I really love the spicy beef. Everyone should come and taste.
I’ll take my friend here next time!
It’s my third time visit and hand out with my friends in this place. The furniture and plate is very luxury and its Chinese style. The spice hot pot is really spice, but it’s really tasty and you must try the wagyu and liver. Anyway this is a good place to have hot pot with friends. Recommend you guys have a try!
Very good place to meet and have a nice hot pot dinner with my friends. The beef, seafood and vegs are pretty fresh. They even have alaska carb meat and abalone.
Pretty traditional hot pot even make me homesick.Beef and abalone are highly Recommend. Least spice is already strong flavor and recommend. Best hot pot in Melbourne. Must try!!!
the hot pot taste good. Their friendly staff taught us how to mix the sesame oil dipping sauce which actually matches really well with the spicy hot pot. food are fresh and good displayed
It’s an average restaurant for parents who bring the young baby. At first, one female waitress just told us she needs to ask other staff to find one table for us. Then, we asked for baby high chair and she just asked us to hold the baby while we had the hot pot. Eventually, there’s one female waitress said we could bring the stroller with us and she found the table for us. Overall, the food was fresh and nice. The service was okey
A new place for Asian hot pot! Really Cool fitout, tried once, it’s so spicy and hot, but worth to try, the dishes are so fresh and very nice presentation, can try the yuanyang pot
