Biriyani is simply awesome, nice and spicy for my liking and the Dal Makhani just blew me away. I was not expecting this level of taste when I 1st tried but now I'm an addict. Better then some restaurant in India 😋
I couldn’t fault this place. It’s a beauty.
Every now and then I get a sudden and serious desire for Indian food. Today was such a day and this place came up on my web search. It’s in a smallish location off an arcade in the CBD. It’s not fancy but it’s certainly very well ordered and run.
Everything was working well here today. I was given a cheery greeting and service was polite, friendly and very efficient. The onion bhajis to start we’re great. This is a favourite snack. These ones were the soft side but had very good texture and beautifully balanced flavour and spice. The vegetable korma to follow was faultless too. Hot and creamy with really good flavour again. The spice was perfect again too. I ordered one of the speciality rices too which also turned out to be perfect. Fluffy, light as a feather and just super with the vegetable korma. The dishes were good sized serves too which is important. Even the raita was a decent size as well.
This was a really really delicious meal. The perfect quick Indian lunch. I couldn’t give higher praise than to wish this cafe was in my area and not the city.
(BTW, the current 2.9 Zomato rating defies all logic. It’s completely out of sync with my experience and ratings on several other platforms.)
As soon as you walk in you are greeted by warm greeting friendly staff. I had the butter chicken and it was seriously the best butter chicken i have tried in anywhere in the world. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you once again guys for showing me a lovely time
I was really surprised by this place. I passed by it a lot without thinking of trying it as I have to be in the mood to be trying a new Indian place. Wish I took the plunge earlier as the food and the place is great. No wonder its always packed. My main concern with Indian food is that its a bit heavy for my liking. Will go there again and again.
I have been dining at this restaurant for at least 10 years now & have introduced many friends fo The Gourmet Curry Hut. Tne Indian Cuisine is as good as i have had anywhere offering a great varity to choose from with as hot as you like it to no heat at all. The staff have also been the same which all goes well for a friendly greeting with service being of the highest standard. I throughly recommend this restaurant to anyone even if they have not tried Indian cuisine previously.
Seriously tasty food. Visiting for a few days from Brisbane and found this place on Zomato with good reviews so thought I would check it out. Not disappointed!
This is really good place for Indian food. Amazing food. I loved it. must try here.staff is very helpful and friendly. Services are good too.
Great authentic eating. delicious curries and friendly staff, what more could you want?
nice suprise having your meal with random sportspeople turning up as well haha.
see you guys again real soon :)
We've been to this resto a few times now and we've always had great food! Though waiting time can be long at times, we weren't disappointed. The owner is even sometimes hands on and helps out at the counter. We love their butter chicken and vindaloo! They make authentic meals with real Indian flavours!
While it is a bit on the pricy side for lunch, this has become a go-to for myself and my colleagues. The service is great, reliable, and the food is delicious especially the butter chicken and yellow Dahl!
If there are areas of improvements, I'd say it might be to get better heating as it is a bit cold during the Melbourne winter and potentially lower the price for groups.
Food was amazing last night. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. One of my favourite indian restaurants in melbourne. 5/5 for me
I used to hang out in this arcade due to The Brownie Bar which very sadly closed its doors a year or so ago but it led me to Gourmet Curry Hut which was a happy accident. We started with a vegetable combo entree because I love all things deep fried. It included a delicious samosa and a recent taste discovery the aloo tikki. Both excellent with the mint dipping sauce. Then it was on to the meat with tandoori chicken and butter chicken accompanied by the largest naan I've ever seen. I was told I didn't need to order two for myself as they were quite large and the waiter was right (for a normal person anyway, I still asked for the second one halfway through my meal). Really good value at $2.50 or $3 for a garlic one (garlic all the way people). Some places are charging $4.50 for garlic naans these days and factoring the fact that I always order two for myself there's a free one right there at those prices. The reviews online are hit and miss but clearly they are doing something right as they have been successfully operating out of this arcade for forever and a day in an environment where the wonderful Brownie lady couldn't make it due to poor visibility. I've been slowly integrating my friend into Indian cuisine and after this dinner she was pretty much sold so hats off to them
We found this restaurant walking through little Collins st on the way to our hotel and decided to stop in for a meal. We ordered a couple serves of samosas and they were the best we had ever tried and that's coming from an indian family that have somosas couple times a week. We ended up ordering butter chicken, lamb korma and goan fish curry, chicken bryani with naan bread, the spices and flavours were spot on perfect. thanks for the perfect meal and friendly service that were very attentive. our new favourite restaurant, see you guys on our next trip down from Brisbane.
So far this is the best Indian food I've found in the Melbourne CBD and I had no idea it was tucked down this little alleyway so close to my work, I think I'll be coming here a lot from now on. My food tasted really fresh and delicious, the staff were friendly and it was very fast and easy to order. I am looking forward to trying a lot more of their dishes. They really are a gourmet curry house.
Amazing food with a lovely, vibrant atmosphere. The staff and owners are lovely engaging in convocation and making you feel warm and invited. Overall the food is exquisite and very appealing, with a magnificent combination of spices the food there is impeccably good. My favorite dish is their butter chicken with a creamy freshness that is very fulfilling the overall experience is very enjoyable in a nice and cozy walk way opposite the best small business in Victoria Chokolait which is a great option for a rich desert and adds to the overall enjoyable experience of the BEST Indian restaurant in Melbourne
Best indian. Best goat curry. Loved the relaxed family vibe
Just ate here. The ambiance is casual cafe style - no frills. But that is exactly what I was after. The food was outstanding! And I don't give that out lightly. I had vegetable samosa followed by madras beef with rice, pickles and plain naan. It was truly delicious. corkage at $7 per bottle was a little steep for the type of restaurant, but all in all a great meal
Yummy!. Best ever food, fast service, and friendly staff. recommending and coming here again.
Mad feed. Came in here last night for dinner with the family. The food was great if not the best I've tried.

Best indian I've ever had. Brought my whole family and they were fast as well as the food being very fresh and tasty. Thank you
Good value for lunch. I wouldnt come here for dinner (as its a bit dingy) but the lunchtime deals are pretty good.
Great food, waiting staff were different but good just the same. Only half full and imagine it could get difficult with a full house.
Great service, great location, great lamb vindaloo, nice and spicy!
Great value for lunch @ $12. Much better than what you get in a food court.
Great food. Had the best Indian feed at this place I been a regular for 9months now and it is great.. I started off going for lunch specials on work break and now I'm also there every fortnight with the wife and friends enjoying yummy Indian food.. Think I've made a few new customers to them coz everyone I take becomes a regular.. Cheers gourmet curry hut.. See ya next week
Lunch deal with excellent food and good service. I've been long cust at this restaurant and all my mates enjoy eating at this joint.
The wait was long the service was average. Food was average.
Fabulous Value. We discovered this little restaurant after spending hours with my co-workers trying to find a good Indian restaurant close to our workplace. It was hidden away in an unassuming little blink-and-you'll-miss-it arcade which you can only really locate if you remember that it's next to the very noticeable New Guernica.
We were so impressed with the quality, value and service the first time that we returned for a second visit and there are more trips on the horizon.
They have a lunch deal where you get a naan and a roti, dessert, plus three curries for between $11 and $13, depending on how many curries are vegetable or meat. On our first trip, the servings were rather generous but were less so on the second trip, but it was still filling. Service is speedy, and so a relaxed lunch here in a one hour break still gets you back to work with plenty of time to spare.
