If you want to try some authentic Malaysia food, this restaurant are supposed to be the best in Melbourne CBD area. All kinds of food I tried are fabulous and authentic. Strongly recommend the fired chicken rib.
Tried their char kuey teow and curry laksa, the food was really nice! Friendly boss and staff, they always try their best to make sure we feel comfortable and enjoy our food. We did! Will definitely go back.
Carlton Wok is my favourite place to eat in Carlton. The atmosphere is relaxed. The host is always friendly and keen to make sure you enjoy your experience. The Laksa is probably the best in Melbourne, and the price is incredibly fair.
I am still nostalgic for the Carlton Chinese Noodle Cafe but took a punt on this place tonight. The chef told me if I didn't like the chicken ribs, he'd give me my money back. They were sensational! Tasty steamed dumplings and great nasi goreng.
Good Malaysian is hard to come by in Melbourne so glad to recommend this place.
Excellent service and absolutely amazing southeast Asia food! This is by far the most authentic singapore/malaysia cuisine that I had ever tried. (I had been in melbourne for 8 years, I would say this is a top notch, budget friendly selection) Whenever I craved for laksa or other southeast asia cuisine, I think of Carlton Wok. A true hidden gem in Carlton and definitely a must try!!!
I was recommended by a friend to try out that place. The food turned out better than expectations! It had the home-made quality that felt very healthy to eat, which is a rare thing nowadays. Would definitely go back there again!
Very tasty food. Had the Thai fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and one of the noodle dishes. All very delicious. Generous portion sizes as well. Would definitely eat here again.
Nasi Goreng was yummy! The wok flavor/smell —the essential part of fried rice— is strong enough! The portion was big enough to feed two people. And the balance between veggies, meat, and rice (and some prawns maybe?) was just alright. Really love it and would like to go back for other dishes next time:)
Authentic Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine with generous amount of serving portions. Definitely worth trying out. Serving time is short and the taste is delicious. 10/10 Would return again 😁
Accidentally pop into this restaurant, and i had ordered sweet and sour pork. Its really a nice and delicious home-cooked asian food! The taste just like the same as i have had in my country. Will definitely come back again! I miss malaysia food soo much
Had dinner last night with my friend., she had suggested to me a while ago that the food here is really good,so decided to have a go. We order a nasi goreng and a Singapore chicken ribs, i can say now that's really good. Will definitely come back again well done Carlton wok 👍👍👍
I had take away nasi go Teng and char Kean Teow was delicious and the portion is great ~ will be come back again~ and the staff was friendly
char koay teow and nasi goreng are my favourite. love the charcoal wok flavour. on top of that food are nice and great portion. my first choice supper.
Had a takeaway char kway teow and fried chicken. it was delicious highly recommended. Will definitely come back to try out other dishes. Service is fast and staff is friendly
Delicious home-cooked Asian food! Will definitely come over for a meal with the family and highly recommended. The beef hor fun really tastes like home.
Had this delicious Singapore Curry Laksa for helping out a friend. Never been happier to experience the taste of memories all over again. Die die must try
Just pass by carlton wok this evening and decided must well go in and have a try on the food.I order a curry laksa and it really taste good and yummy will be back for sure
I stumbled upon this place by chance, driving down Rathdowne Street. I love a good Char Kway Teow and this place does it well... I just wish the serving was bigger. If you aren't one for atmosphere and fancy decor and just want a good quick meal, give this place a try.
Came across tis place while drivin around in hunger n craving for asian food.. Tis place has gt da best char kway teow n salted fish fried rice which ive been cravin for since i left malaysia.. am sure to go try more of da othr food on their menu.. all i can say is the food n service is great..
There’s definitely a little bit of magic happening at the Carlton Wok. After a typically long and tiring Friday afternoon at work I was ready for some non-cooking and reached over to the Ubereats app for some delivery. After a solid hour of salivating over restaurant options I leaned towards the Asian-stylings of Carlton Wok. Plugged in the order and in about twenty minutes I had my food, courtesy of an Uber bicycle who’s driver was equally attractive as he was surly. To eating time.
It was absolutely lovely that I've received such a cute note on my uberEATs bag of Carlton Wok goodness! Was surprised the order came faster than expected! The honey chicken, beef char kuay teow and oh the spring rolls was just beautiful! Have ordered twice and will be ordering again^^ Thanks so much~
What is crispy on the outside, soft and moist in the inside? What is sweet and savoury all at the same time? Carlton Wok's - HONEY CHICKEN!!! Enuff said.
Lovely food lovely people! Never had a better time in an Asian restaurant. Totally in love with the Singapore noodles, fried wontons and chicken skewers! The orange sauce with the wontons are simply amazing!!
Not quite a fan of posting reviews, but just thought I'd do a shoutout to thank the guys behind carlton wok for the best asian food I've had in a long while. Tried a couple of their dishes & I'm definitely going back for seconds.
Must tries: lemon chicken, curry chicken & singapore noodles
Thanks again guys for knowing exactly how to satisfy the one with picky tastebuds!
This is probably the best Asian restaurant in the area of Carlton. Had a few meals here and I must say that they were delicious. Occasionally, the restaurant gets filled with delivery orders and takeaways might be slow. But hey, for the great food that they serve, its worth the wait. Highly recommended.
The guys who run this place are super friendly. Decor is very simple and homely but the food is excellent and very cheap. They deserve more people coming to visit
Very good food. Almost everything here ia fantastic. The char kway teow is really delicious. Back for more. Asians if u miss home, do visit carlton wok!
This resto definitely aiming westerners, their taste is standard for our family.
The appetizer was delicious, the fried wonton, steam and fried dimsum but thats about it, the horfan was just okay, the wantan noodle and fried kuay teow was way too salty, the laksa was okay tho. Too bad as we were so excited to try as the review was mostly good. The service was really good tho, very attentive and friendly.
Best food in town. I highly recommend you try it ,you will love it as much as I do! Good service friendly staff!! The Singapore noodles are to die for.
Carlton Wok = best Chinese in north Melbourne.
Service is amazing and food is always piping hot and full of flavour. Their dumplings are too die for and their fried rice is up and above anything I've tried before! It's great value for money and also very quick!
Food was good, service was fab and prices are alright. The guys who served us were very nice and friendly, which is a pleasant surprise in an Asian place! We had the sambal chicken, Mongolian beef, nasi goreng and chicken prawn dumplings. The dumplings were surprisingly good, very flavourful. The nasi goreng was also on point. The other dishes were a bit too whitewashed for my liking, I guess next time we'll ask them to amp up the flavours? Overall a great neighbourhood joint and I will definitely go back when I'm craving Asian food!
This is the most underrated restaurant in Carlton I think. Not by score, but by popularity! You are missing out if you haven't been.
Run by some extremely friendly and knowledgeable guys, they serve up genuine Malaysian, Singaporean and Chinese (more so Hakka) cuisine that is just packed with flavour. Everything is cheap and their customer service is on the next level.
Give this place a try, Broadsheet really need to check it out.
My boyfriend and I have been here twice and are quite satisfied with their food and service. The place is small but clean, prices are reasonable. If you are around and don't know what to eat, they will be a nice choice.
Tried the curry chicken rice as well as char kuey teow. They were both quite tasty, though the noodles might have been more authentic with seafood instead of beef (you can choose your protein).
Little place with friendly and welcoming service. Food is nice and fresh. The place is reasonably clean. I will come back if I'm around the area next time.
I only found this place today. What a Gem! Walked in and the guy behind the counter was very helpful in helping me choose a quick meal. Mongolian beef with veggies and rice, very nice. Also, the portion size was awesome. Very filling indeed. I will definitely be back very soon.
Great food at a good price. I've been here many many times, and have ordered every meal on the menu, some more than once. ;) I'm surprised people don't flock here!!
I'm Chinese-Canadian, and have been looking for a decent Chinese take-away place in or near Carlton for 7 years. None exist unless you're willing to trek 20 minutes south.
The food is authentic, but more importantly, delicious. My favourites are the "Char Siu noodles" (my fave since I was a kid), black pepper beef, black bean hor-fun, and the sweet & sour pork. The spring rolls are fantastic as well. Probably hand-made. They taste like it. I haven't tried many of the other appetisers.
The worst thing on the menu? Take-away wonton noodles or something. The wontons stick together and rip!!
I hope Australians in the area take notice, because Carlton Wok serves up great, authentic Chinese/Singaporean/Malaysian food.
Wandered in today for a panic binge-meal of fried koay teow, ultimate comfort food whilst my apartment was appraised for rental, Life in flux, judgement on self's purchasing abillity, etc., and found a new chowdown place!
Good service and food! :') Great for a drop-in eat!
Great place! Friendly staff and yummy food. Great flavours, big plates around $10 so great for students. Have been here quite often lately and will continue coming back
I first came across this place by chance with my friend and thought to give it a try. It was the best decision ever! The food is awesome and the staff were friendly! I had the seafood Char Kuey Teow and it reminded me of the ones I had back in Singapore. The ingredients tasted so fresh and I love it so much!! Would be back for more truly authentic Southeast Asian cuisine! Am eyeing the yong tau foo already!(:
This is my favorite place in Melbourne for south east Asian staples. Laksa is a must try. Staff is super friendly, and the setting has a relaxed open vibe.
I'm a Singaporean in Melbourne for a short vacation, surprised to try such authentic chinese/malaysian food so soon. Ordered the sweet & sour pork and the fusion of sour, salty and sweet flavor just blended so naturally. Staff were warm and friendly, I would def come back again if i stayed here!
Great place to eat. The staff is very friendly and polite. The food tastes great and it's cheap! The only reason I'm not giving it a perfect score is because I'm a big eater and the portions are not enough to make be full, but it should be enough for the average dinner. I would definitely recommend that place!
Consistently delicious food and great service. Their special yong tau foo dish is great value for money and you get to try different ingredients each time. Highly recommend this place!
Chill atmosphere with good music, staff are helpful and friendly, generous portion and food are deliciously good!!! Only yong tau foo place I could find in the area and have been searching for one for quite some time. Definitely worth a try!!!
Great dishes at great rates. A hidden gem in Carlton. Their dishes are full of flavor and has a descent range. A must try for those who are in the area.
Friendly owner that served authentic Singapore & Malaysia hawker food. Have tried many other cafes but this is the best especially the seafood hoa fung. The Laksa and Chou Kuay Teou is a must try.
My Friday night go to. Most authentic asian in Melbourne!! The owner, what a sweetie.
Most authentic Malaysian in Melbourne!. I've eaten here four times now and it has been absolutely top notch. The hokkien mee, migoreng and Laksa are so damn good!
The place itself is super basic and makes you feel as though you're eating at someone's home. It all makes the experience!
This place is definitely worth seeking out if you want an authentic Asian food experience. The food is cheap and super tasty!
Five stars!
Love! Cheap takeaway with great flavour! A new gem here in Carlton. Staff makes you feel very welcome. If they're feeling extra good, they'll even give you free tea!
Yum! Totally agree with all the reviews - great Malaysian food, great service and made quickly. Tried the salted fish fried rice, Singapore noodles, won Ton soup and hor fun - all cooked well, flavoursome but not too oily like other places we've tried- Highly recommended if you're craving a noodle or rice dish fix! Well done, we'll be back!
First time I've been. Laska is amazing - reminded me of food I've eaten in Malaysia. Dumplings were delicious and not caked in oil.
Friendly chef and relaxed atmosphere.
The food was freshly cooked in front of you but very fast and inexpensive which is a nice change in Carlton.
Delicious. Don't be put off by the decor! The food here is terrific. Vegetarian Curry Laksa is champ!
Great value Malaysian, yummy, freshly prepared really nice folks and relaxed atmosphere - open all day so great with kids for an early dinner. A terrific cheap and cheerful feed.
Wok Up to Carlton Wok. We woked up here on a cold winter's eve, not expecting too much. A dude with a black beanie greeted us and found us a nice place to sit down. After perusing the chalkboard menu we decided on the Special Char Kway Teow, Thai Fried Rice, and the owner was happy to accommodate us with a plate of mixed veggies that wasn't on the menu. We also ordered Chinese tea which warmed us up while our food was made. The food came promptly and the flavours were authentic with just the right amount of bite to the Thai Fried Rice. The seafood dishes were fresh and the serving sizes generous.
The average price for a main is about $10.
Charming family business without the pretentious formalities and awkward reverse hospitality of some other favoured eateries.
Wok'n Roll!
Carlton Wok gets my vote! :). Yummy homemade taste, authentic asian style dishes made with love! I think it is run by an older man and his son (I always like to support an honest family business). They are very friendly and always check to see if we liked our meal. It is very cheap, you can get out of there with a full belly for less than $10. I had the Chicken Tom Yum soup and it was delicious.
Great tasting authentic Malaysian dishes and great value.
