Epic roast duck
Doublefatasians
1. Asked for utensils and NO utensils were given
2. Ordered the combination with rice (roast duck & soya sauce chicken) but only 2 pcs of roast duck were given and the rest were full of chicken. Paid for $15+. Totally not worthed
3. Porridge were too thick and not edible

Wow, worst customer service ever. I've been here quite a few times and initially I just passed off the rude services, however, it's been continuing for quite a long time already. Disappointed.

customer service is down the drain. the front cashier lady was so rude. She was lecturing me just because I didn't hear her when my order is ready. Please fire that lady (long hair with fringe, wear glasses) . First visit there and will be the last too

Craving roast duck and what better place than Box Hill? Checked Zomato and this place was a 4.1 so we headed on in. My roast duck was nice but far from the tastiest I’ve had. I’m more sure if it’s because I don’t know which cut of the duck to ask for, but I’m all about the skin and the fat - it was nice enough though. My girlfriend had a generic noodle dish which she didn’t rate, but that’s kinda her fault for not getting one of the bbq options.

Highly recommended by my friend to tried their roast so I have came to box hill to tried. I was not disappointed and I love it everything they do

Love the roast duck and roast pork. Every time I go there, always buy the 2 or 3 meat combo with white rice., sometimes with a fried egg on top. The portion is generous. Never walk out hungry. Some of their special chef dishes are good. Bad thing is, waiting for 15-20 just to get a table.

Located directly opposite Box Hill Central, this place serves amazing roast meat. We would usually do take aways for the roast meat. The favorite is the duck, and roast pork. The crackling is on point, and the roast duck is a winner.
Tania
Really flavoursome duck! One of the best in the box hill area. Congee was lacking a bit of flavour though. Fried tofu was nice, but could have been silkier like other places. Also took a while for it to come out but was super fresh.

Bad experience from the very start! Firstly, we looked at the menu displayed at their door to see the prices and the range. We were going to opt for the 2 roast combination on rice which was priced at $13.50 (pretty standard we thought). However, when we sat down and were given the menus inside the restaurant, the 2 roast combo on rice was listed at $15!! Whatever, we didn't mind as long as it was quality roast, an extra $1.50 is not worth the trouble.

I ordered a roast duck and soya chicken on rice, my partner order roast duck and crispy bbq pork. His dish was decent, pork was crispy and the duck had great colour on it with a nice crispy skin. However, when I my soya chicken and roast duck came, I was severely disappointed. The plate had about 4 pieces of soya chicken (pretty normal), however all the pieces were full of bone and looked more like the remains of the chicken once you ate it. There was not one piece of thigh or breast, most of it was thin and bony. Not to mention, 1 out of the 4 pieces of soya chicken was half a wing.... Never in my whole life have I ever seen half a chicken wing on a plate of combo roast in my 20 yrs!!

When I questioned a waitress about it she was extremely dismissive and defended the dish by saying "we don't chop just the breast or thigh we chop a quarter of the chicken so you can't swap the pieces out". That's understandable, but I clearly did not get a quarter and Not only did she not even look at my plate, she didn't even bother to listen to what I had to say. I was prepared to pay extra for a few pieces of soya chicken but she didn't want to help. I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the service and the quality. Only redemption was the roast duck and complementary starter soup so I will give 2/5 in total :(

I love this place. I basically come and order take away ( roasted duck and crispy pork) every other night when I transferred to Box Hill. I had to stop after a couple of months, my poor heart. This one's a keeper. The serve free soup when you come in and unlimited black tea galore. I love the sweet chinese sausages, so yum. The place is small but always packed and surprising clean though customer turnover is so fast.
The vegetables are always fresh. The duck is juicy. I just keep coming back.

Real rating 3.5

Located right opposite boxhill central, this place was crazy busy on a Saturday lunch. Great for takeaway bbq roast as well as dine-in. We waited for 5 minutes to be seated.

Some hot tea and a bowl of soup are served immediately per head. Thought that was something surprisingly unexpected, well done to build up customer satisfaction!

We ordered soy sauce chicken and charsiu. Charsiu could've been slightly fattier, but flavour wise a 4/5. The chicken was tender and not too salty.

With 3 bowls of rice, they served all rice in a big pot, which is equivalent to 4-5 bowls of rice, I think that is a very generous gesture. Also saves up on time.

Upon payment the cashier girl was a bit rude as we were using our Zomato Gold voucher, apparently, she had no idea and keep asking "are you sure?" Luckily the manager came quickly resolved the issue. Would be back for takeaway if I am in the area.

Food is good, 5 stars. But service is bad, overall 3 stars. We used Zomato Gold Membership food 1+1, and the manager gave us a bad attitude, and said he already cancelled zomato, no such deal in here. Only a young girl at cashier knows what's going on.

If you want the most authentic Cantonese style bbq, this is the place! Never have I ever not left this place bursting at the seams because once you have a bite, you don't wanna stop.

I used to love coming to this place and they used to serve the best roast duck but but recently they have been declining in quality meat is tough and and the portion is small and i felt there is differential treatment for different customers. Very disappointed sad

This restaurant served nice bbq meat especially their roasted duck. Convenient location along Carrington Street. Hard to find seat during lunch hours. Sometimes have to share tables with others. It would be good that diners can allowed to seat freely on their own if not so crowded. Food is good and cheap and small in-house soup provided. Can dine in or takeaways.

12 June 2019

Brought 2 overseas relatives to this restaurant for lunch today. Ordered 1/2 roasted duck, roasted pork and a plate of green vegetable. The roasted duck was not so tasty as before, taste is bland, the roasted pork meat is hard to chew and not soft and juicy at all. The food had deteriorated. I remembered that when they first opened, it was managed by two HK brothers who were very friendly and staffs were very friendly and efficient. I used to go there very often. I have not been eating at this restaurant for a while until today and I can said that it was a great disappointment since my last trip here a while ago. Furthermore, one of the serving staff had been very rude and sarcastic when I asked her help to take a photo for us. She refused fiercely to take photo for us and passed a remark that her hand is heavy and just walked away. We were shocked and feel offended by her attitude. After half way through our lunch, she walked back and said that she now can take photo for us. By then I was already upset and told her there is no need now since her hand were heavy as she had said earlier. I don’t get her meaning that her hand is heavy anyway it was upsetting to meet with this incident especially in front of my overseas relatives. It was embarrassing. I don’t think I will ever want to come back and eat here again in future. Normally I would like to eat their roasted duck but now it had been deteriorated. I will definitely give a miss in future.

Been here a few times now in the past half year, and I’m happy to say that your duck cravings will definitely be satisfied after having a plate of their roast duck. So succulent, juicy and the skin always nice and crispy as well. Always left feeling full.

Recently however I’ve had their chicken and liver stew. Overall was a bit below the standard that I’d come to expect from the restaurant, wasn’t as flavoursome as other dishes and liver was a bit undercooked.

Overall, I would recommend Roast Duck Inn mainly for their duck and soya chicken dishes- they make a perfect meal. Reasonably priced as well.

I used to come here quite often. I love that they always serve homemade soup to their customers. From what I remember, the food has been consistently good. However, I’m a bit disappointed with the food during my recent visit (duck was quite dry compared to the previous times I had it) 😞

Food is somehow delicious but their customer service is horrible. Have been supporting this restaurant for a few years, but I had enough now. Never come back again

Roast Duck Inn offers a quick and affordable option for authentic Chinese BBQ. While their execution for other items may not be always perfect, we know that their roasts most definitely hit the spot every time.

Food is extremely tasty! Always come here for dinner to get roast pork or roast duck on rice, never fails to deliver and the staff are extremely friendly. Got to love the free sauce they give out

Looking for somewhere quick, cheap and delicious? Roast Duck Inn has got your back! Consistently good BBQ roast meats, abundance of Chinese dishes on menu, they are always busy with both dine ins and take aways. My favourites are always the crispy skin roast pork and century egg congee. Yum!!
Thunder8621
Hearty, big and fresh Chinese food with complimentary tea and soup. Attentive waiters fill your tea cups - this beats any kind of service in the Chinese CBD restaurants. Wonton noodles, roast pork/duck, claypot, pork belly.....this place does it all.....and very well
Eatjin
Duck is good but somehow not as amazing as it once was.
Tried the salted egg prawn since salted egg is a big favourite of mine. They were just okay, the salted egg flavour not very strong.

Always a pleasant experience when we dine here! The roast duck, BBQ pork and roast pork is always delicious! Make sure you get here early as it get very crowded!

They definitely provide the combination of good food and horrible service. I couldn’t believe how come they could take the money for what I wanted and then informed me it was not available in two seconds. Could someone be kindly offer them a proper staff training so that they are aware of the logical woking sequence? These serving staff definitely ruin the great effort of their wonderful chef!

I have always like the people and the roast duck from Roast duck Inn. Tonight my experience isn’t so great! The staff at the cashier wasn’t friendly and my half duck is made up of bits and pieces from 2 ducks or more. And it is luke warm when I get home which means I have to microwave it before serving it to the family. Major disappointment! Change of ownership or was I just really unlucky. I don’t think I will be back for a while :(

I really don’t care how people say this is a good restaurant. I tried it when it first opened. I did not like the way they chopped up the ducks. Then there was a change of proprietor.
Upon a stroke of lightning I went there tonight again.
I really don’t care how people say this is a good restaurant. I tried it when it first opened. I still did not like the way they chopped up the ducks. And the food is still under par.

The duck was underdone. The meat was tasteless. And it was not chopped up properly. Pick one bit up and and 3-4 pieces followed. Still this is better the first time when the whole serve of ducks was still connected. Left most of it behind because it did not taste good.

The only other dish was a fish pot. The fish was not fresh. There is a strong fish taste which I did not like.

Just another bad meal.

Can’t go wrong with a good roast on rice or noodles when you are looking for a quick lunch here. Abundant of flavours and textures on the menu to keep us coming back and try new dishes or good old comfort roasts.
Ling Yap
The variety of congee is what I liked here. The fish congee is what I liked the most. It gets super packed in dinner time. The roast meat is ok too.

Late night dinner at Carrington Rd. Came across this gem. Heard their roast meats were to die for. We had the roast duck, roast pork and roast pork vegetable and rice. Portions were generous and yummy. There was a great mouth feel and everything just tasted yum. Box Hill just does Cantonese well.

My rating : 4.3/5

Perfect place for roast duck! Was looking for a place to host a family dinner around Boxhill and came across this eatery in Zomato.
Ambience : Great location. A small restaurant with a small dining area. The place was busy but manageable.
Food : The roast duck was the highlight of the night. It was so juicy and tender. The roast pork and the BBQ pork were palatable and full of flavor. Dumplings were well seasoned.
Service : Great service and friendly staffs. Made a booking through Zomato, and was brought to the table immediately when we arrived. Waiters were very attentive too.
Will definitely come back again!

Roast Duck Inn Box Hill has been around for years and it’s still as popular as ever, with a line sometimes out the door during peak times. It’s a great example of a place that focuses on one thing and perfects it.

I always come here for the roast duck/roast pork combination. Definitely recommend it and the plum sauce that comes with the duck is an awesome pairing! It gets quite busy at noon but if you want to avoid the crowds, go around 3-4pm.
Sunny Days Melbourne
For a place with 'roast duck' in its name, it has to (and does) serve an almost perfect signature dish. For today though, we went for something different. The hard to find pork sausage was like a carnival in my mouth. Lots of savoury, sweet and mildly spicy tastes, all mixed together resulting in an exciting combination.
The cuttlefish was soft and tasty.....enough said.
Boxhill is a hub of Asian eateries but this place is a head above the rest.
Went there for lunch for two. Very unpretentious, very busy and very quick. A complimentary bowl of soup and Chinese tea (which was consistently refilled) landed on our table just after we were seated. The specialty and centrepiece is BBQ meats with the roast duck hanging in the window with the show being expertly sliced up before your eyes. We had a Combination BBQ Meat plate of roast duck, soy sauce chicken and crispy skin roast pork. Delicious and moist! We also had Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and Chicken and Vegetable Fried Noodles. A bit over the top, but only cost $26 each. We booked but tables seemed to be turned over quickly and there didn't seem to be any waiting
FoodLoverQueenM
Always Love the place in boxhill! The roast duck and chicken are nice! But very small place you have to wait for long time sometimes. Better do take away.

After many attempts to satisfy our peking duck craving to no avail, we decided to venture out to Box Hill in the hopes that our cravings would finally be satisfied by an amazing peking duck... unfortunately even Roast Duck Inn, famous for their duck, was alas still not good enough. Seriously disappointed by Melbourne’s peking duck/cantonese BBQ scene! So far Auckland, New Zealand’s Chinese food blasts Melbourne’s out the water in terms of quality, quantity, authenticity and price! The mushroom/shrimp claypot we also ordered was a decent sized portion of tofu, vege, shrimp and mushrooms. Slightly bland and nothing memorable, but warm and comforting nonetheless. Service was fast and attentive, with waitresses topping up our tea often which was a pleasant surprise! If anyone has a recommendation for cantonese BBQ, please comment some suggestions!!

Their roast duck was juicy and tasty but it was usually cold. I had to ask them to warm it up. The place was always busy and the staff was most of the time cold. Price was cheap for the portion.

Amazing roast duck. The best I've had in a while. The roast dishes with rice or noodles are super affordable. The side of duck you get with a noodle dish is quite a lot as well - like a quarter! They also come and refill your tea for you when they see your empty glass.

I've been here two times. Both times for the roast duck - what did you expect heh. The first time I ate in with a roast duck meal. It was delicious. Very flavourful and thick juicy skin. However the second time I ordered half a roast duck for takeaway and it was one of the worst I've ever had and I've had a lot all around the world. The skin was bland and even hard to chew. The meat just as bad like dated fridge food. Simply not fresh at all. What made it worse was this place charges premium prices. Basically the roast duck here is hit or miss.
Mel
The 3 things we regularly come back here for (which we prefer to take away so we don’t have to worry about the level of service and ambience!!) - are the roast duck (of course), crispy skin roast pork (one of the best in Melbourne with just the right amount of tenderness & crunchiness) & squid (admittedly a dish not for everyone but also pretty hard to find in Melbourne!) We’ve never been disappointed as the quality is consistently good.

Best roast duck in Box Hill that comes with an delicious sauce! Mum always gets take away from this shop especially for Chinese New Year. We also enjoy the tasty white braised chicken.
FoodforThought
This place is called Roast Duck Inn for a reason. Its roast duck is so good! The roast pork is pretty good too although not too good for the arteries. Serving is generous and if you dine in you’ll get tea and soup with no additional charges.

The second best duck place in all of Box Hill. Good flavour through the duck and plenty of other options to. There are cheaper options out there but not as good. They chop for you

Located box hill , firstly the customer service not bad , and secondly the taste of food is great specially the duck , crispy pork and hot pot with purple sweet potato + fish tasty , little let me disappointed the chicken and bbq pork not very nice . Overall price reasonable.

This place is always busy, you have to wait for 15-30mins for a table.

As the restaurant called Roast duck inn, the best dish is the roast duck.

I will definately go here for the roast duck, but not really for the other dishes.

Tried their salted egg prawn - oily and wasnt fried poperly.
Mapo tofu was ok

But they provide a bowl of soup and chinese tea for free.

Go get your roast duck!!
Meg
What I really like about the food here is that they are all lightly season with little msg. The portion is also very generous and big. One of the highlights is definitely the roast duck. Wouldn't recommend the soy sauce chicken and wonton mee as they are just alright. They also compliment us with soup and hot tea. The soup was very nice as they have pork and duck flavor in it instead of just msg.

Ambience: not the best place to spend hours sitting and catching up with friends.

Cleanliness: quite clean for a Chinese restaurant.

Service: friendly and nice staff, despite it was Chinese New Year that day.

We may have come across the best roast duck and crispy skin roast pork we’ve ever had so far! On a night where we didn’t want to travel too far into the CBD, we came across the recommendation of Roast Duck Inn. Situated along a strip of other restaurants and shops in central Box Hill, Roast Duck Inn is a small and no nonsense shop with one purpose. To produce top quality roast meats and food of course! So if you’re looking for great service or a place where you can spend hours with your friends catching up, this is probably not the place for you. It is obvious that people literally come for the food, they eat, and they are out of there.

I think this place finally got over the shock of changing owners and start picking up its pace.

It's one of those busy place in Box Hill you mainly come for food (mainly takeaway), and Roast Duck, and Roast Pork. If you like Chinese crispy noodle, they also have crispy vermicelli.

What I love about the new practice is the food are only lightly seasoned, compared with the old salty dishes, so you are given the options of adding your own soy/ salt or not.
Vivian
One of the better duck places in the area with average prices. The service is very sub par but its a place you would come for just for the food. The roast duck and crispy pork is always staple when I come here and also the wonton soup noodles. The place is also always busy so its always a good sign
Shun Liu
Used to be my favourite roast duck in Melbourne until it recently switched owners.

The dishes taste similar but service and the overall experience gone down big time.
Leonagao121
Good place for Chinese BBQ.
Highly recommend roasted duck and pork belly.
Cleaner than other same kind restaurants.
Always being here after late work.
Seems like a change of owners. Duck is not as good as before unfortunately. Abit blend. Might give it another try, probably not anytime soon :(

Excellent value for money with the best takeaway Roast Duck in Box Hill. We regularly have this at least a few times a month and, for a $12 dinner that fills you to bursting, you really can't go wrong.
Lilmeh
This is probably the best and most authentic roast duck in Melbourne. The other dishes are pretty decent cantonese fare too. Service is strictly cantonese behaviour, so it might seem blunt and forward to unaware westerners.
SmokinAussie
My first visit here and definately not my last! Walking in here is like transporting yourself to a place like Cheung Sha Wan in Hong Kong.

Small by Aussie standards, this place was totally packed for Sunday lunch. They may as well not even have a front door given that the entire time we were there, the door was open with a line of people waiting for a table or waiting to order takeaway BBQ.

Speaking of the BBQ it's absolutely top class, hot and fresh right out of the ovens. Racks and racks of roast pork, ducks and chickens came out while we were sitting there, all going out to hungry customers ordering by the kilo, or the whole peice to go...

So naturally, a place this busy.... Just try and get someone to take your order... Man, that was hard work, but when finally achieved with smiles all round the food came out pretty quickly and it was really very good. Ok, maybe just a little more seasoning needed on one dish, but who cares. I love the vibe of places like this and this is one of the best in Melbourne. I should mark it higher but I've gotta have somewhere to go, and the service does need a bit of a revamp, especially with the older chap serving really not doing the job well... Which is a shame because for all I know he's the owner!

Anyway, get along to this place and while you are eating, order a kilo of Char Siu and a whole roast duck to take home like we did. You won't regret it.
Bluecat
Service is non existence. Had to wave down a staff 3 times to place our order. It's a norm with other tables too. The roast duck is very good. I will be back to just purchase the duck but never to sit in as the staff lacks customer service. If only the owners of these eatery are aware of how terrible their staff are. :(

Today i buy 20aud roast port rib, look this photo ,i cant see meat, all is fat,its waste of my money
So this is my last one time buy in this shop .

Came in here for a take away duck because I haven't had a lot of experience cooking ducks myself. Duck breasts yes but not the whole bird. I found the duck to be tender and tasty with a crispy skin. The spices were delicious. I made a good decision in leaving it to the experts.
Dugie@Moon
Used to be my favourite roast duck place. But my recent experience was not half good as before. Duck as dry and oily. Not sure if they changed chef or it was just a bad day.
Excellent lunch spot in boxhill if you are craving a roast dish meal.
Will give another good and see what happened!
Veronica ❤️🍰
The roast duck here is mad good!

The duck meat was tender and juicy with just the nice amount of duck fat and crispiest duck skin ever. I could eat this all day, every day. They are very reasonably priced too, $12 for rice plate or alternatively you can have the whole duck for $ 38 - the portions were generous!

Nothing much going on in term of ambiance, design was very standard to other Chinese place in the area.
Also, don't expect tender loving care here, you will be disappointed. Overall, great Cantonese food, budget friendly, quick and reliable!

Tip: Cash only.

Female Waitresses/Staff behind the money counter are always really rude. Never smile & always got a hatred anger attitude to customers & staff. Looks like they're always angry at their staff or customers for coming in. I'm thinking.....if you girls don't like your job then DON'T WORK there. One of them is young & other one had glasses. Such B***CH FACES to serve customers (especially taking the money)

Besides that....The roast duck, pork & chicken is nice & the complimentary soup is yummy (always different soup). I went back 3 times is because the twin sisters waitress was really nice to my husband & family. Other young female waitress on the floor was also nice & kind.

Overall food is good & the place is clean. Rush hour kind of feel the pressure you need to eat quickly because it is quite a small restaurant and people waiting but is good to eat (Only if the owner will fix those two money-counter staffs attitude or even better......they should fire them both)
Been?Here
A small but prominent Cantonese eatery just opposite Boxhill Central Shopping Centre on Carrington Rd.

In this fast paced, a little chaotic less frills environment, people still come from near and far by word of mouth as this place is well known for their roast duck, the good food certainly makes up for it.

Usually would arrive a little earlier than the normal lunch/ dinner meal periods or expect a bit of queuing and waiting, even for take out.

Though not a regular here, I have often brought visitors for a quick casual dine in for both lunch and dinner and do roast meat takeaways which have been consistently good.

For dining in, staff were accommodating and welcoming with complimentary tea and bowl of soup each (though served at lukewarm temperature).

Prices were reasonable, big portioning for sharing eat in, and take out price for roast duck was adjusted down.

🌟🌟🌟🌟Half Roast Duck
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Steamed Scallops with Garlic & Vermicelli
🌟🌟🌟🌟Trio Eggs Spinach in Superior Stock
🌟🌟🌟🌟Steamed Barramundi with Black Fungus

LIT!: food came out very fast! Within 5 minutes of ordering 8 dishes, they ALL just came out. The duck was amazing (ofc).

NOT SO LIT: the chilli boiled fish- fish didn't taste fresh but it was okay. Everything else was so good anyway!

Thanks for having us!
Alex De Petro
Tasty, tasty duck is the highlight of the menu here, although it was hard to find an unsatisfactory dish in the large assortment ordered by my party of 9. Other standouts include the claypot chicken, fillet steak with garlic and soy sauce chicken. Ambience is non-existent, but the service is fast, prices fine and food delicious.
EatToLive
Nice and delicious all kinds of roast especially their roasted duck. Our group of foodies agree that it is as good as one at Pacific. The price is a little bit higher than other places but not a big deal because the best thing you will find here is the service. (With complementary broth to warm your stomach) I can assure you that it's far better than most of Chinese restaurants in Box Hill. Great spot for lunch. Highly recommended

Roast duck on dry noodles. It will not disappoint. Don't share either. Have one to yourself.
Wonton soup was quite bland however the wonton itself wasn't too shabby. But seriously, roast duck. Dry noodles. No regrets.
Cynthia Giang
Bustling with people, and when we came out seating was a little on the crammed side. Duck was nice, a little more oily than some places I've been but still well seasoned and whatnot. Service is that typical brusk kind of behaviour.

Yummmmm!! ! Great stop for fatty roast duck on a plate of rice or noodles! Simple yet endlessly gratifying stuff! Sometimes you just need a greasy roast duck feed.

Oh and don't forget the sidesoup, it's delicious!! !

A great quick and absolutely scrumptious eat for excellent value for money.

When it comes to BBQ duck, pork, chicken this is the place to visit. Whilst the dishes I'm about to list were very good, the Pork mince egg plant Clay pot was the killer dish. My goodness this dish had big chunks of egg plant (not mush) that were cooked to perfection, soft and tender. @
The meats, were very juicy and full of flavour, the duck poured out juice, the pork had a very thin waiffer of crackling and the soy chicken chicken was soft and tender.
The place is cheap in the sense of tables and chairs and nothing special in presentation. The food is what counts here and I think it's very good and great value.
Considering we are becoming a cashless society, I'm amazed they said "sorry cash only" quite poor form and detracts from the sweetness of the food.

Really good roast duck, Crispy pork & BBQ pork. Their main dishes is also pretty tasty. Soup is given for free and generally quite nice. Service is ok here

This gets decent reviews, but I didn't actually think the food was very good. The roast duck was fairly gristlely and boney, and needed more seasoning. The other dishes were similarly underwhelming.

Something strange was that just about everything was served somewhere between room temperature and only mildly warm (and this is coming from someone who doesn't like their food particularly hot). The spring rolls were the only thing that were hot.

My two dining companions were equally underwhelmed. I'm not sure if the place has gone downhill, or maybe it's just not our style of food.
Elonie
Since this place is called Roast Duck Inn, so have to try their roast duck. It's a busy place for lunch and as soon as you sit down, they give you a bowl of soup (complimentary). The roast duck rice was yummy with the plum dipping sauce. The skin of the roast duck is really crispy.
Lin Liu
The roast duck with rice here is very good,
but the fried rice noodle with beef (干炒牛河) is very bad.

And the soup with Chinese sauerkraut tasted very strange and I was not sure if I saw some little bugs in the soup which is horrible.
Cookiemonsta
Typical Chinese restaurant in the area, food is okay. Not bad but nothing to rave about. I always ask for no onion in my dishes but this is always seems to be ignored. Easily solved by pointing it out to the staff but I wish I didn't have to!
Yew
Went there for lunch. Ordered roast duck on rice. Waited for a long time for my meal because they give priority to people who came for takeaway.

It has been there for a long time..... for a good reason.

No nonsense approach, get in before the rush hours, order, quick served and pay.
Very addition Chinese Trinity of Roast or off the Menu, you'll get away with less than $15.00. Value for money, can't really go wrong.

Family owned and operated.

Handy location and friendly service.

The place is always packed but they managed to keep the table and chair clean and tidy.

Though the proportion of food may be a bit small, the dishes were very delicious, especially the deep fried prawn with salty egg yolk.

We will be back for the stir fried noodle (not shown in the picture).
Ilovefood
We were seated as soon as we got in and was served a cup of tea and a bowl of soup each. The soup was ok, not much taste to it. Ordered the two combination rice, with roast pork and roast duck.

Had lunch here with the family and can see why there are always packed with customers. The place has ample seatings but due to its popularity, there doesn't appear to be many left. We had to wait for approximately 10mins before getting a seat. I ordered the chicken and vegetable fried noodles and loved the crispy noodles.

I had what appears to be Teh Ice which was pretty average but enjoyable nonetheless.

I would certainly like to come back here and try the other dishes on the menu.

Roast duck is very good here,
its one of my top 5 roast duck places in Melbourne.

good size and price.
other dishes are just average but acceptable.

Nothing more to say :)

Came here on 2 separate occasions and the food were consistently good. Their roast duck is definitely my favourite, so juicy and flavoursome. Wouldn't mind coming back again if I happened to stop by the neighbourhood.

Very busy on a Wednesday night compare to other restaurants along the street which is normally an indication of good food :) service was good, quite generous with the roast duck on the rice, and the duck skin has the right amount of crisp and flavour. Great little joint in Boxhill.

Came here to try the roast duck after reading a few good review. The roast duck is quite different from Pacific house . I do think that the roast duck here is lighter in taste. They come with a small plate of plum sauce which was quite little for the amount of duck they serve in that plate. The roast pork is pretty good. The skin is crispy and flavoursome. The sprouts in soup is ok.not the best that I have tried. The staff are friendly but the customer service is not their priority. They rather the customer to wait for the right table size although there are bigger tables available.

Let's just put it this way: you come here for the FOOD, definitely NOT for the service. Roast duck is perfectly juicy, noodles well seasoned, with a good sized serving of veg to boot. They served up my plate of duck and I waited and waited for the noodles, but they didn't come - apparently they had forgotten. They also have a penchant for clearing plates with hardly any warning, even taking away sauce, and all this when you're only halfway thru your food. So yes, come for the food - it's great.

We have been there around 8 pm. We wanted to order the BBQ meat, but most of them on the menu was sold out. We had no choice and ordered Roast Duck and Soya sauce duck. At that time, we are so hungry. We ordered stired-fried scallops with vegetables, braised seafood and tofu and spicy fish fillet. All of them looks yummy but tastes light. It is like chef forgot to put salt. I might come back and try other flavor BBQ meat, but don't wanna try the vegetables again.

It is a very busy crowd Chinese restaurant. The food is tasty, especially the roast duck. It's a good place to have a quick meal. But there is Not much space around your table. It's not a good place to catch up with your friend.

Re-doing my previous review. The daily soup, whilst complimentary used to be decent. It was awful and I suspect made me feel ill. After being served under average char siu, fatty roast duck and a greasy predominantly fatty cuts of beef brisket, I vomited after 3 tastes. Then continued to dry reach in the garden outside. Not a charming sight. We used to rely on this place for decent roast. Not anymore.

I usually have my roast duck on rice, so it was nice to go all out on the Half Roast Duck ($20.8) instead. The bird came out chopped into bite-sized pieces, the brittle, glossy skin giving way to hot, succulent meat and the most sinful layer of fat. It came with a lemon dipping sauce on the side, but I thought the lightly sweetened soy glaze was more than enough. And yes, it did taste as good as it looked.

It's just about the food here. I don't know how they fit as many tables in here as they do, but you'll need to be friendly with strangers to squash past other seating as you enter or leave most of the time. Either it's always busy here, or we just have a knack for arriving at a busy moment. BBQ meat, that's what you come here for. It's all yum, I especially enjoy the white sauce spring chicken my o/h enjoys the pork options, we all like the duck....at Roast Duck Inn. The rest of the menu is...comprehensive to say the least, and nothing has been bad. Food comes quickly, don't expect a leisurely meal, it's eat and go. Trouble with Box Hill these days is that it's a bit like the city - can be a challenge to find a park. If you're in Box Hill anyway, if you like to PT it, or if you get there early, find a park, and you don't mind squashing in with what feels like a couple of hundred other people in a space the size of a standard shopfront - and it is an 'experience', then have at! Full disclosure, the lower rating is only because of the cramped conditions, it's not for me, the food's great, so take away might be an option if you're there and it's flat chat.
