Review The Spot Cafe And Diner - Melbourne

Loved it- we had a good time because they have excellent quality food, they don’t behave cheap and their service is extraordinary. I wanted to invite my friends but found out for breakfast over the weekend it is busy so hard to make booking but no worries we will try again some other times. Keep up the good loved you food!

Enjoyed lunch here recently. Very impressed with coffee - both filter batch and espresso. Lamb shawarma so delicious! My partner had the Mujadara which was also amazing. Polished off with a Portuguese tart and dirty chai latte! Overall great food, coffee and hospitality. Next time will try the buttermilk waffles. There will definitely be a next time!

A quaint little cafe on Nicholson Street with extensive menu and a variety to choose from. A good brunch place with good coffee. Staff were friendly and polite, compliments to the chef for the exquisite dish. 👌🏻

This is an absolute favourite café of mine! The staff are super duper welcoming and friendly, the chef is very chatty and warm! The lamb shawarma is the best thing I have tasted, plus they were able to use a gluten free wrap bread for me, yum yum. The entrance is a smooth transition, no level changes for wheelchairs or prams (attached photo is the front doorway). It would be a tight squeeze to get a wheelchair to the back corner tables, but luckily they have many that are wheelchair accessible. 5 starts all around and a massive thank you for making such delicious food!
Shaheer Shikrani
Had Grilled chicken sandwich, chilli potato gozlemes, The Mork hot chocolate, orange juice. Everything looked and tasted delicious! Chicken was grilled well. Would have preferred the chilli potato gozleme to be spicier. I found them a bit mild. Staff were polite. The dining room was clean and had a pleasant ambience.

my partner and I have been coming here for over a year now (my partner for several!) and it never disappoints. superb tastes, generous portion size, reasonable prices and outstanding consistency. staff never fails to be absolutely lovely too - best classic breakfast options in Melbourne in my opinion!

Terrible service and terrible food. We ordered through Uber eats for a pick up. When we arrived our order wasn't even being prepared (after 1 hour) we got our food and we realize that the gozeleme (spinach and cheese) didn't have cheese just spinach!!! Terrible!

What a find! I could not fault it. The good is amazing. We had Spicy Harissa Eggs and serving was generous (4 eggs!) The staff were friendly and the service was fast. We also had the freshly squeezed juice to our liking. Riyadh the owner from Palestine came out to have a chat. All halal. The bacon is beef bacon and ham is turkey ham. I'll be back!
Whalesfoodadventure
Food tasted great. The corn fritters were so tasty and meshed well with the avocado and halloumi. However i had asked for no poached egg and it came with the poached egg. Falafel and hummus was also delicious. Love the crispyness of the falafel. Matcha latte was sweet but not too sweet. Great matcha latte

Visited this lovely cafe on Fathers Day! We booked a table for 8 and the place was perfect for my father who is in a wheelchair. He had enough space to feel comfortable. The staff were friendly and the chef was very accomodating to dietary requirements which is hard to find. We tried almost everything and couldn’t fault any of it. Harissa scrambled, mujudara, smashed avo, fritters and the amazing Shakshuka!
Can’t wait to come back here!!!
Thanks guys, we had the best Fathers Day :)

Recently moved to the area and found this little gem while walking my dog. Coffee is perfect, staff are very friendly and warm.
Heaps of vegetarian and some vegan options so if you’re in the area check The Spot out!

Favourite local! Food and coffee is amazing. They have the best filter in the area so you should definitely try it if you're a coffee enthusiast.

I love the smashed avocado! It's a simple dish but they execute it so well! All the flavours and ingredients are so fresh! Their Shakshuka is the best I've tried!! Full of flavour and not bland like a lot of other places!

Always impressed by these guys!

I’ve been a regular for a long time, friendly and cosy place. Mujadara is my favourite, the house made butter milk waffle is a must try . Coffee always hits the spot, love the rotated singles by disciple . Keep up the great work guys 👍😊

Best coffee in town!
Food is delicious and I love the middle eastern flavors.
The waffles are a must try as well as the shakshuka
100% would reccomend

The drinks is great and staff is really nice and cute as well as the boss.
My friends and I have a great time there. Moreover, the price is affordable and the latte art is amazing. I am really pleased.

I absolutely loved this place and the aesthetic! The coffee was hearty and refreshing!! I found that the single origin coffee here is also amazing. I highly recommend this place for people who are coffee lover. I will definitely be back for more!!

This place is great. We we're early for an appointment so stopped for some breakfast. We had the fritters and the shakshuka and it was incredibly delicious. The coffee was quite strong but yummy none the less, and the staff are so sweet and friendly. I would highly recommend this place for a nice quiet breakfast. It was our first time there so they even threw in a free coffee for next time.
Halal Food Melbourne
Excellent central and accessible location. Great coffee! Great menu items with a middle eastern and Turkish influence. Nice small clean cafe, great tasting food. 100% HALAL and tasty!

We came here for breakfast. Our food was well presented and very delicious, although the staff was very friendly, location and atmosphere was not quite there
Dine And Dash
We came here to The Spot Cafe in Coburg for brunch. It was a cold morning but we felt warm and comfortable even sitting outside.
The decor is pleasant – crisp and fresh and we found the staff friendly and helpful. We ordered the Shakshukah which we thought was not only a very authentic middle eastern dish it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It came with two perfectly cooked poached eggs with runny yolks, labne, Jordanian sastra and served with fresh Turkish bread. The flavours were all there – the capsicum and tomato paste was rich and the depth of flavour was intense - beautifully balanced. Just sensational.
We also ordered the Nutella waffles which came with fresh strawberries and creamy vanilla ice cream. As soon as they hit the table we were so impressed. (see photo) Presentation and portion size were right on point and surprisingly it wasn’t too sweet. Another truly delicious dish. Faultless. We also had the salted caramel freakshake with peanut butter and pretzels. It was amazing! The flavours worked so well – sweet, salty and nutty – it was irresistible.
The Spot Café has been around for a while now and today it definitely surpassed our expectations. We were delighted to be invited here and we most definitely look forward to coming back again soon! One could easily say - this is The Spot to be!

Clean, modern cafe with a decent size menu. Had the fritters stack and was pleasantly surprised at the generous serving. Even though the veg goodness was towering on the plate, quality of the food wasn't compromised. Really yum

Used to have such a good avocado smash for an incredible price. But then I think they changed owners so they don’t offer that good deal anymore. Shame.. coffee is also a bit too milky for my liking. But good croissants! ;)
Francis Sia
WOW! The best cafe I’ve been to in Melbourne so far. My first time here and I had the grilled chicken sandwich with halloumi it was delicious and filling. The team, including the chef was friendly, greeted us with smiles. I love it here, will be back more friends!
Hungry For Chips
Heard about this little cafe from a write up somewhere and thought we’d give it a go. A few people lining up for takeaway coffees so a rather good start. The menu is full of classic dishes with middle eastern flavours; nothing too “hipster”. Highlights: Everything was OK, but nothing stood out. In a city full of amazing eateries, you have to be exceptional. Lowlights: need to step up the service game. More focus on the middle eastern flavours would have a massive difference.

Real rating 4.25 ⭐️

This was our first time visiting The Spot and here’s what we think of it!

Harissa scrambled eggs - this was a beautiful dish with a lot of scrambled egg on the multigrain! The harissa, cayenne, labneh and avocado were great additions as well adding complexity to the flavors I had tasted - salty, sweet and spicy all at once and complementing each other! It may not sound possible but it was! What made this dish stand out was that the harissa which gave me that extra kick but was not overly spicy!

Nutella and ice cream waffles - this may sound like a simple dish but it takes skills to make a perfect one and they definitely nailed it! The waffles were thick and not overly crispy and let’s face it - who doesn’t love Nutella and ice cream? Sweet tooth lovers out there, this is the dish for you!

Juices - we had ordered the orange and apple juice separately and I just have to say how fresh they were! You could actually taste the fruits but in a liquid form!

Overall, The Spot has done really well and I would love to see what other surprises they have in store for the future! 😎

The Spot is a little cafe tucked away in a quite part of Coburg. It’s a little gem that serves up great brunches with friendly service.

My friend and I ordered the smashed avo, the harissa scramble and the buttermilk waffles. Although they were simple dishes, they were executed well. My faves were the scramble and the waffles. Haven’t had such soft and fluffy waffles in a while!!

If you’re after some great brunch staples with a middle eastern twist, make sure you head on over to The Spot and try them out for yourself!
Foodloverwhojiggles
Great coffee, great food, great service!

The Spot is THE spot to go if you're after a good feed. We got the Harissa Scramble, Smashed Avocado and the Buttermilk Waffles and a flat white.

Harissa Scramble was hands down one of my faves! The harissa and labna is house made, which give it the extra special touch and makes it that much more delicious! This is the perfect brunch item!

Smashed Avocado was packed with goodness! Again, their labna they crumble over is house made, generous serve of avocado and rocket, balanced perfectly with the heirloom tomatoes, dukkah and poached egg.

Buttermilk Waffles were delicious to the max!! The batter is, once again, house made. The inside is light and fluffy. The outside is crispy and golden. Topped with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and fresh berries.

I highly recommend popping by - you won't regret it!

Excellent place for coffee and breakfast! Must try: their specialty brews and Harissa Scrambled eggs. Very friendly staff and owner-operator.

Great Coffee. Delicious food with a good variety. Everything is halal which is a bonus for me. Great customer service. My favourite local cafe in Coburg. Thanks!

Brew Hunter
The Spot located in Coburg, is a very new and modern little cafe situated just under an apartment complex on Nicholson Street. Situated in a rather dull section of Coburg without any cafe competitors near by, this cafe should do well as it is right near a main tram stop reeling in customers for their morning caffeine kick.

Being a local in the area, The Spot caught my attention only noted by the small amount of seating, and bold planter boxes that had suddenly appeared on Nicholson street.

On a Sunday afternoon curiosity got the better of me so I though I would pop into see what was on offer. On arrival it was rather quiet and we where greeted by friendly waiter. We sat on the bar facing the window to do some quality people watching whilst glancing over the menu.

After reading the specials board and being informed that the beans are sourced from Proud Mary my expectations where raised expecting a solid brew. We order coffees being a long black along with a mocha whilst still deciding on what to order form the simplistic menu with a Middle Eastern twist.
The brews arrived and looked decent. The double ristretto blend was magnificent. Aromatic velvet textures of caramel and milk chocolate shown through on the long black leaving a lingering soft taste on the palate. The mocha was equally as good and not to sweet with a creamy texture.

Kicking it off with a bang with the coffees we where keen to order opting for the classic big breakfast and an item off the specials board being the bircher muesli. Meals arrived and looked mouthwatering. The big breakfast featuring the usual poached eggs, Portobello mushrooms, roasted tomato, sujuk, beef bacon, haloumi and sautéed spinach all served on sourdough was a well executed dish. The eggs oozed yolk, soaking into the thick sourdough. The sujuk and bacon where salty but not overwhelming. The portobello mushroom and tomatoes where cooked tender and the haloumi sealed the deal bring fried to crispy perfection, crafting for a filling hearty breakfast.

The bircher muesli with nuts, seeds, chia seeds and raisins topped with a saffron poached pear, lychees and mixed berries was a filling and gorgeously presented dish. Initial impressions where a let down due to the absence of lychees on my dish :( but other than that the bircher was tasty. The thick, creamy constancy of the chewy oats littered with chewy sweet dried fruits and crunchy nuts kept the taste buds excited. The fresh berries added tartness and the highlight was obviously the saffron poached pear that fell apart upon breaking.

The Spot is home to magnificent coffee and simple brunch style dishes that are done well. The staff are kind but it is clear that this up and coming cafe it still very new and needs time to get into the groove. Overall the service is good and the meals are filling leaving one satisfied.

Fantastic coffee and even better food. Middle eastern twist on the menu with so much flavour at a really good price. Highly recommend a visit.
Split The Bill
The Spot serves Proud Mary coffee so that was a great start to our morning. We thoroughly enjoyed our lattes and they whipped up a fab soy latte too.

We all voted for the special Mexican eggs with very aromatic sauce with sujuk, beans and jalapeños served on a corn tortilla with 2 fried eggs and avo too. Soon as it hit the table we were thoroughly impressed. This was the perfect portion size and did not leave you feeling bloated. The Mexican eggs would have also been perfect for a light lunch. For those who are not into spicy foods, it was just above a mild spice level.

We could not go pass the smashed avocado. It certainly hit the mark and was very refreshing with tomato, house made labne with dukkah and fresh thyme. The smashed avocado was also just the right amount of creamy.

We could not resist ordering the falafel salad. The crunchy falafel was well cooked and with the tahini served with the pickles and hummus, the flavours really hit the mark.

A freshly squeezed apple juice for me and a double shot expresso was a great way to finish our meal.

Thanks for the invite. It’s great to see another new local cafe in the Northern suburbs.
Beautiful fresh and vibrant food. Another halal option around. The owner are just amazing, and the staffs are also amazing😍.
Its not a big cafe but just enough for us to have a peaceful dining in experience.

Ever since we’ve been blessed with 2 Beautiful Lil Girls, we rarely go out to Cafès. Simply because some of the cafes we’ve been feels tight and overcrowded.

With The Spot there’s plenty of space for the little girls to ‘breath’ and stretch their legs.

Portion size is great. Oh and the other reason we rarely go out, has quite a bit to do with the dollar sign. And at The Spot, it doesn’t feel heavy on the pockets.

Parking is also one which is readily accessible.

Ticks boxes for us.

This time we tried the *Fritters Stack*
It was full of flavour.
Good Food Good Mood
I was fortunate to have breakfast as a guest of The Spot today and I was pleasantly surprised. For a local little cafe their menu is bursting with deliciousness. I started with a yummy chai and my dining companion opted for a pear lime and ginger beverage which was a good choice on a 37 degree day.
For the mains I tried the corn and zucchini fritters stack and what an impressive stack it was! Delicately pan fried and accompanied by a sweet tomato relish, poached egg and fresh avocado this was a surefire hit. Topped with a slice of haloumi which I don’t generally go for this one was a lot less salty then I usually encounter and provided an interesting spongy texture to the dish. A generous portion too and visually stunning.
Our other dish was the smashed avocado and this was a gorgeous rendition with a middle eastern twist of Dukkha and labne. Both dishes were very reasonably priced, the staff were absolutely lovely and the atmosphere very serene and relaxed.
A creative and delicious breakfast that I would thoroughly recommend

Great variety of food options on the menu, comfortable seating, and friendly customer service. A good meeting point for vegetarians and coffee lovers.

The staff were very friendly and helpful! The food was very nice and tasty. It was very reasonably priced and got a good portion size. It had a nice atmosphere very open and light. There was a great variety and very easily change anything that you wanted without a fuss.

A must try cafe with a Verity of dishes to choose from, the chilli scramble eggs was excellent, coffee on point and great service, well done guys

Can’t get enough of this place! I’ve been eating here since they opened and I must say it is the most consistent cafe in terms of service, food quality and coffee! Their flame grilled lamb burger is mouthwatering, one of the best I’ve tried as is their smashed avo, mujudara, fritters to name a few. The coffee is just amazing, you must try their batch brew. You can tell they put their heart into the food and coffee so don’t pass this one up!
Mandy Blackman
Good little local spot with friendly staff and intriguing menu. Their home made labne is very good, as are their iced lattes. Coffee is very good in general, and they always have tempting specials on the board

The Spot’s unique take on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine is a welcome and refreshing change to the expansive yet rather conventional brunch scene in Melbourne.
While the region’s food is often associated with greasy and unhealthy options like Kebabs and Gyros, The Spot most definitely breaks the norm and proves that Middle Eastern cuisine can be tasty, healthy and creative all at once!
Farah Mohammed
Had brunch at this great little spot. The atmosphere of the cafe is awesome, a lot of friends and families meeting up for weekend brunch. The service was also great, we got greeted as soon as we walked in! And received prompt table service soon after. I ordered the Big Brekkie, it was all delicious however the portion was huge and I wasn't able to finish it. My sister ordered the Baked Morrocon Eggs which she enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.

I love this place 😊👍👍👍👍 I have never been disappointed with the food or the coffee. All styles of brew methods and excellent customer service.

Amazing food the baked eggs are fantastic and the coffee is spot on every time this place is definitely worth a visit. A beautiful cafe with a cozy feeling

I have been a regular at the Spot cafe for over a year, always warm and friendly service. Love trying different items on their menu especially the middle Eastern ones. Love the fresh and greeny falafel salad
with home made hummus and tahini, harissa scrambled which is with their own harissa, topped with home-made and avo, and don't forget to try the Mujadara which already took the best middle Eastern breakfast in Coburg on Urbanlist Melb. Best coffee in town.
Sweet And Sour Fork
Scrambled eggs may sound boring, but trust me – the Harissa Scrambled Eggs ($14.5) are anything but. Served on crusty sourdough, the swirl of richly golden scramble was lusciously creamy and downright heavenly. And although the warmly spiced eggs alone were dreamy as it is, they were topped with a dollop of sharp house-made labne for contrast, and a wedge of the freshest avocado. This plate of eggs is simultaneously comfortingly familiar and excitingly foreign – it is really something to behold.
Emily Carruthers
Guys, I cannot recommend this place enough. Coffee is literally the best I've had anywhere in Melbourne, service is very friendly, and the menu items have a Middle-Eastern flair so that even a usually standard fare like scrambled eggs has harissa and labne and other exciting things in. The scrambled eggs are my go-to here because I love the chilli flavours, but I've also had various specials and the Moroccan baked eggs, and have absolutely no complaints. Great job, guys!
Maria
I come here on a weekly basis now. The breakfast menu is affordable and has a great middle eastern twist to it so love eating here. The hot chocolates they make are one of the best ones I have had in Melbourne, rich in cocoa and organic. Service is great also, friendly staff.
Adam El Zanaty
This is the first time I have left feedback fora cafe/restaurant. I ordered the Big Breaky and it looked nothing like the images that have been posted on this site. It was the worst meal I have ever had and considered small at best. My coffee cup had a hole in it and was leaking. When asked for a replacement I got crickets. I feel completely ripped off.
Hayden Mackenzie
Friendly service, good coffee, really interesting attention to detail on the food. Still pretty quiet at the moment so lacking that real energetic buzz but when they get there this place will be a sensational Sunday morning local. Impressed.
Joshua Dalton
Coffee was excellent, staff are very friendly. Only minor gripe is that the waiting time was a little long for a quiet Tuesday. Definitely will be coming back!!

Great Service! Love the food, love the atmosphere. Need to try the BLAT. One doesnt just have one cofee at The Spot.......also kunafa is best i have had.
Foodcritique 101
Whilst this place offers a nice relaxing atmosphere with a middle eastern twist on the menu, it unfortunately lacks the establishment of a good cafe.

The food was average at best in flavor, however the presentation of the dishes was modern and well presented.

Eggs were over poached, the labneh actually had a nice kick of flavor to it. The dish I ordered was the salmon, again nothing spectacular as it could've been. Coffee was also slightly tangy whilst mildly cold!
Really enjoy visiting this local Cafe.. It's just a feel good place where Middle Eastern influences decorate the menu whilst keeping in with the usual breakfast & lunch requirements of any good Melbourne haunt. In other words you can expect to find something on the menu that will feel familiar yet foreign enough to spark curiosity. The care taken to present quality food is matched by a Coffee & Tea service that does not disappoint. Owner/Operator Khalil can be seen producing stunning Latte's alongside an experienced Barista ensuring quality remains so in other words The Spot is Coffee conscious and I'm grateful for that.I can't think of any other places that successfully bring together a full array of Coburg residents so effortlessly and for that alone The Spot is truly unique so do yourself a flavour!
Steph
My experience at the Spot today was so lack-luster it inspired me to write my first zomato review. Mine was a simple order; a ham and cheese toastie and a skim latte to go. The toastie cost a whopping $8.50 and had one singular thin slice of ham and a lonely slice of cheese that covered half of the sandwich. But it came with plenty of tomato (too bad I hate tomato and didn't order it). Sadly, it was not toasted or warm at all. The small coffee (their only size) cost $4.00 and was bitter and watery all at the same time. It was also scalding hot. Half of each was all I could stomach. It took about 5 minutes to order and about another 10 for these items to be made. There were only three patrons including myself in the cafe. The staff seem out of their depth, timid and not particularly helpful. If they can't handle a toastie and a latte to go, I hate to imagine what a dine-in experience would be like. I won't return to find out.

Since the beginning of the year, they have been serving specialty coffee, breakfast and lunch with a modern middle eastern twist. It is conveniently located right in front of Coburg mosque which can come in very handy when it's time for prayers. The cafe is spacious with plenty of seats inside and out and also room for prams to maneuver with ease.

Coffee is by a local roaster, Humble Harry, featuring their Sunny boy blend. They also have filter and cold brews available along with alternative milks like soy and spelt for dairy free consumers. They have fresh juices on order, a drinks fridge and hot pies readily available at your convenience. Their muffins are housemade using organic flours, much like most of their ingredients are ethnically sourced from a wholefoods supplier, Terra Madre.

There are a variety of options on their menu such as the 5 grain porridge, baked eggs, lamb backstrap, kale tabouli and a list of very affordable toasties, burgers and wraps to choose from for lunch. Service may be a little slow on some days but it will all be worth the wait in the end, trust me on this. So make sure you go on a day you are not in a rush. I also recommend trying the specials which they have listed by the front door.

Read more reviews at mmatcommunity.com

This restaurant was absolutely amazing, it has great service and great food, all brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The coffee is just exquisite. My friend had the Latte and they could not stop raving about it. I had the falafel and it was made there and it was just a brilliant platter of well made and full of love. I would rate it higher if I could. Everyone needs to try "The Spot".

Great coffee and really fresh food. Love the hommus and Vege couscous. Great new cafe! Friendly helpful staff too. Clean and peaceful decor. Hope it'll get more popular soon!

New favourite place right now. Love the freshness of the food. Great coffee and attentive service. Good parking wise also. Definitely a new gem in Coburg.

Excellent coffee, great staff.
Corn fritters were really good too.
A lot of the menu items have a definite twist on modern cafe classics.
It's a very safe menu, but with enough flair to keep things interesting.
Worth checking out
I really enjoyed the baked eggs too. The coffee was heavenly also! A great cafe that's not too crazy busy- so you actually get staff that pay you attention which is fantastic!

Delicious food and great coffee. The Moroccan dish was amazing! A very sweet husband and wife team behind the scenes. Relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely return.
