It's nice to have a delicious treat to eat while wandering around the markets, and a nice cup of Fritz gelato really hits the spot. With a good selection of flavours, a nice creamy texture and friendly staff; it's my go to on a sunny day.
I enjoyed a scoop of hazelnut and another of espresso and they were both delicious. Not too sweet, the nutty and coffee flavours worked together well, and is a combination I will try again.
The daughter was craving for ice cream on a cold winter day while we were shopping around the south melbourne market. We found Fritz Gelato and got the hazelnut (daughter’s fave) and the lychee/kalamansi gelato, which was surprisingly very good and flavourful.
I would love to come back and try their more interesting flavours. Preferably during the warmer days.
Was a bit tricky to find in our quest for ice cream (see: sunny weather), make sure to go to the food court side of the markets and you’ll find Fritz. Really loved their passionfruit and blood orange flavour
Fritz Gelato is one of my favourite places to go for a nice cold gelato especially during the summer. I personally think it's a very underrated gelato joint! It's just never open! I have the passionfruit and chocolate gelato in a cone, great tasting gelato combination.
Nice , yummy ice cream. Very generous scoop size. Helpful service, tasted few, extra tissues available. Good selection just wished for sorbet didn't see one otherwise good overall visit with seating available next by the middle of the court.
It's never too cold for ice cream and what better time to indulge than now. Fritz Gelato is a reliable source for ice cream when I don't feel like driving too far or bothering with queues at those more famous places. Fritz does surprisingly good ice cream for a franchise outlet. The texture is smooth and creamy, and the most of the flavours are pretty spot on. Our latest favourite is the caramelised fig and roasted almond - a gorgeous sweet and nutty combination of flavours. The panacotta and raspberry is akin to boysenberry, but much lighter, milkier and fruity in taste. However, we found that the traditional flavours such as salted caramel, honeycomb and coffee rush a bit more artificial tasting when compared to the "higher end" flavours. Service at the South Melbourne outlet is somewhat subdued; no smiles but very efficient and prompt arrived. While Fritz is not the best and thus often overshadowed by other glitzier ice cream joints, I personally think that Fritz deserves much more love for being consistent and being able to deliver the goods to satisfy my ice cream craving.
On a summer night, how can you possibly resist a gelato? This place was enticing enough on a hot summer night. My sweet tooth couldn't possibly say no to this. My friend and I bought got one scoop each after having samples of their different flavours gelato. The lady behind the counter was very accommodating and the gelato I picked was just delicious.
Seriously best gelato I have ever tasted. Great texture! Not many "gelato" makers get this right (many make ice cream and call it gelato). Their watermelon gelato was even made with real watermelon. Not sickeningly sweet or overly creamy. Every thing was just right.
Quality gelato that is not overpriced. Love their caramelised fig gelato. Chocolate one is dense and great too but may be too sweet for some people.
Quality but not chunky. I used to eat a lotto Fritz Gelato when I lived here befo', because our house was near St. Kilda and it was convenient to pedal my pushbike down to the shop at the end of Fitzroy and get a two-flavour takeaway container. Even in the summer, I could get it to my freezer before it melted. My Xwife was keen on all things organic, so it was a plus that Fritz uses organic milk. But it's been almost five years, and many gelaterias since then, so I decided to pop into this Fritz on a shopping trip to the market to see how their gelato stands up to all that I've eaten in the interim.
Now don't get me wrong with what I'm about to say, because Fritz makes some good gelato. One of the flavours I had on my two-scoop cone was their feature of the month, cinnamon and ginger. It had a little bit of heat from the ginger and a trace of the exotic from the cinnamon, kept in balance so that neither spice overwhelmed the other. And the coffee scoop was filled with black specks of finely ground beans, only it wasn't grainy or bitter. For my personal preference, though, Fritz's gelato is too soft. Not air-filled like Peter's or some other mass-market ice cream, just not as dense as I like a gelato to be. And what they had on offer at this stall (there are fewer choices here than at other Fritz's) was all smooth. My inner child likes ice cream with chunks in it, like nuts and chocolate and candy bar bits. I'm not knocking Fritz, but if I had a choice of any gelato in Melbourne, I'd go for Trampoline, even though it's a franchised food court operation. It's thick and chunky, whereas Fritz is merely smooth and delicious.
Very good donuts and coffee. I brought a bag of the cinnamon donuts, 6 for $4 i think. Hot, fresh and tasty. Went well with the coffee. The gelato looks good, but it was too early in the morning, i will be back to try it during summer.
Tasty donuts. I would recommend their organic donuts! The ring ones are my favourite so tasty.
Yummy. Love the massive take home pack - eat it in 2 nights
Not just gelato. The Gelati is great but that's not all. Try the organic cinnamon doughnuts made to order next time you are at the South Melbourne Markets. Organic coffee also available.
