Review Chimac Plus - Melbourne

Edwar Kartio
You can order either K-BBQ buffet service or a la carte dishes here. Corn cheese was great with an ample amount of cheese. The japchae had a generous portion and wasn't too oily. We also ordered fried chicken (forgot to take pic) and that was just okay. Food - 7 Service - 9 Vibe - 8 Price - $$

We were a group of three and had the all meat option for $36 per person. Highly recommended. Generous amounts of yummy marinated meat. Loved the atmosphere. The waitress was really friendly and professional. We'll definitely be back!

I had the spicy pork with rice. Was delicious and the Korean beer goes with it so well. Also surprisingly cheap for how good the meal was! Just don't leave your valuables in your car when you park 💀

Delicious fried chicken mix and match. Bulgogi, spicy pork very nice. Great staff who served and didn't need to wait long for the meals at all. Will plan to go back for sure

Best Korean BBQ ever with great service and soju too! Always a great experience! Our favorite Korean BBQ on vic st! Thank you from TDE crew đŸ˜‰đŸ€—

Well priced, good food portions and great service. They dropped the ball a little at the very end and our pork belly got a smidge burnt, but I wasn't upset.

All you can eat bbq was well priced, the meats were pre marinated and pretty good, the sides were very yummy too, particularly the fried chicken. There was pork, chicken and beef, but, pork belly was my favourite cut. Service was very friendly and efficient, atmosphere was nice and overall, very satisfied 👍

Great burrito, quesadillas and fried chicken wings. Cooked fresh and well presented.

Bad service, won’t return !

I have always loved Chimac's fried chicken and their Mexican x Korean fusion dishes.

My most recent trip there was for their all-you-can-eat KBBQ and it was my first time trying it.

The appetizers and salad were okay. The portion was not big even for two person but all the dishes could be re-ordered anyways so that was not an issue.

Their chuck steak was good. You just have to make sure it is not overcooked. I wouldn't recommend the beef bulgogi, it was too flavourful and clumpy (or maybe it was the way we cooked it).

The good thing about the all-you-can-eat was that you can order their honey soy and crispy chicken as side dishes too!

I would recommend this to people who like all-you-can-eat food, in my opinion, it is worth trying!

Wait staff are awesome. Venue is nice and cosy. The food is the downside. This place lets down all the other Korean BBQs. It feels like the care factor isn’t there due to not many Korean customers. They all you can eat meat are not really something you want to be eating. Most of the pork are all due to expire with colour changes and strong off smell. When of our pork came with the string ball net that is usually covered to hold the meat. Strongly don’t recommend this place for BBQ. However, on the other side the fried chicken is not bad to have.

Great price, great taste. I'd go again. I will go again. Quite the surprise we stumbled on and hope once everyone starts going the prizes won't go up.

Wonder Soy...Wonder Boy! That Wonder Soy Fried Chicken was absolutely delicious. Juicy, crispy and so satisfying. We also asked for some chili sauce for dipping and that was amazing! We discovered they mix up a few ingredients for their chili sauce. Loaded Fries were also a winner on the table!

Place is great! Staffs are generally very attentive!
Korean BBQ all you can eat menu is a must try!
$35 per head for adult.
Their fried chicken is another must try 😄
Takor! Quesadilla, kimchi karnita basket 🍖

I have been this place a few times and this Ultra Crispy Chiken is Legend! I’m pretty sure it is hard to find this much crispy korean Chicken in Melboune.

Definitely one of the top Korean bbq places in Richmond. The grill is electrical, and they do have an all you can eat menu. The wings are by far my favourite. The staff are so friendly! The last time I went there, the gave us fries on the house because our chicken was taking very long. I was not frustrated to begin with but it was honestly such good customer service.
Kathleen
Highly recommend the bulgogi tacos! The pork belly was really good! However the sliced pork, chicken and kimchi weren't great. The kimchi was very bitter. I would come back for the tacos, not the kbbq.

Honestly, the easiest 5 stars I've ever given. It is basically my family and friends' second home.

Food: Perfection! Great prices, food is authentic, and flavours are unbelievable.
We always get the bbq sets, their iconic ultra crispy fried chicken, and their peculiar, irresistible burritos! Yep! The Korean burritos are addictive!

Customer service: Amazing. Kind, always carrying a smile, and always easy to approach.

Atmosphere: lively and fun! The Korean music makes the restaurant live up to its bistro title! Venue is clean and perfect for anything. From family time to a nice joyful date.

This place will not disappoint! That's why we've been a weekly customer for almost 3 years 😉
We had all you can eat experience in chimac plus. The food was overall okay, but we really did feel like they’re being stingy with the food. We finished completely everything including the side dishes and they took our plates and didn’t bring anything else, even the menu which we can order from or didn’t ask if we wanted something else. If you guys want to do AYCE, it should be really All WE CAN EAT! We shouldn’t have felt like they’re being stingy with the food. It’s disappointing and we will probably try the next door when we’re looking for AYCE bbq.

Chimac Plus is the Abbotsford sibling of West Melbourne’s Chimac, which has been serving up Korean and Korean/Mexican fusion food since 2014. The word ‘chimac’ is a portmanteau of the English word chicken with the Korean word for beer (maekju) and you’ll find places specialising in chimak all over Korea.

My first ever Korean bbq experience happened to be here! And it was worth every penny. They serve alongside a range of side dishes. They cook the meat just to the appropriate texture. Loved it.

The waiting staff was accomodating when we wanted to change our tables because the sun was shining in our eyes where we were sitting. The food was pretty average for the price paid. The whole chicken portion was small for $34. Tastewise, there wasn't much hint of garlic in wonder soy and bloody sweet was just like it's name. The quesadilla with korean stuffing was interesting.
Cynthia Giang
Korean joint that is slightly open so it's a nice place to sit around on a warmer day. Standard Korean food; chicken was a little dry. The pickled white radish was nice, and the food comes out quite quickly. Everything was alright but nothing outstandingly good for me.
Flying Forward
I like the atmosphere of this place, you have Korean tunes in the background and an open terrace, perfect for chilling with a group of friends over chicken and beer. Of course there are other items on the menu but this place is called Chimac for a reason - this is a korean nickname for chicken and beer.
The chicken is nice and crispy with a good amount of batter, and not overly drenched with sauce.
Probably the best in the area, but I'm still on the lookout for the best in Melbourne!
Melb_foodlvr8
Friendly staff and delicious food! We ordered the Bloody sweet fried chicken, soy fried chicken, kbbq set for $64 which included a good variety of meat (the bulgogi was probably my favourite), Korean tacos and bibimbap and demolished it all. If you haven't tried Korean tacos then you should at this place because it was unique and very tasty. Only downsides were that there wasn't a really good drink selection and the menu was a bit confusing.. Having a friend that had been there before we trusted her to do the ordering. But other than that I would definitely be happy to come back!

Delicious bulgolgi, my friend got the spicy chicken with extra cheese which was also yummy. The kimchi side is good. The chips were average. The waitress was nice.

Retaining the quirky and cute decor of the original Chimac, Chimac Plus is bigger and even have K-BBQ in the front half of the restaurant. The normal food menu looks to be the same as Chimac. We had the Kimchi fritters, original KFC (half) and bulgogi K-quesadilla. The kimchi fritters were rather unique, and so crispy. In retrospect we probably didn't need so much deep fried stuff, whoops. The fried chicken was amazing - the meat was juicy, the batter was well seasoned and really crispy. It's without doubt one of the best KFC in Melbourne. Our favourite of the night was the K-quesadilla though. The quesadilla was really well toasted and nothing fell out or came apart. It had a nice crunch too. Something about this fusion worked really well. The cheese was not too strong but complemented the subtle flavours of the bulgogi, and gosh those jalapenos were spicy. It was delicious comfort food and definitely a winner! The restaurant was surprisingly quiet, but it made for a relaxing and cosy dinner. It was cheap too - just over $20/head!

Very good kbbq at a very decent price. Staff was very friendly and always eager to help. Probably the best kbbq in Richmond. Will be back again.

YUM YUM YUM
went there with girlfriend for casual Tuesday dinner
Had SPICY PORK QUESIDILLA CORN FRITTER SPICY CHICKEN ON RICE AND TOSTADAS
Loved every bit of food very well seasoned and balanced
Would love to have more beer options and some cocktail to have but food was spot on
Will definitely go back again and again.

Food is expensive for it's portion size. Meat for bbq isn't seasoned or marinated. Service is mediocre. Only plus side.. It's outdoors so the bbq smell is limited.

This is another post that is three almost four months over due. Better late than never no? If you like Korean and Mexican food, Chimac Plus is the place for you. The place is quiet enough for you to be able to hear each other talk and walk in during dinner without a booking. Chimac Plus is located on Victoria St in Abbotsford which can be difficult to get to during peak hour traffic.

The ultra crispy chicken was a definite crowd pleaser. We also had the bulgogi quesadilla with the hot sauce on the side which was interestingly tasty. The fresh greens we ordered was drizzled with a citrus vinaigrette that gave a refreshing touch to the dish. The seafood pancake was crispy and squid was still nice and tender. The spicy pork rice was oily but tasty. Overall good service.

Chimac Plus is a Korean restaurant that combines it’s menu with elements of Mexican cooking featuring salas, tortillas, burritos and quesadillas. We booked for a table of 4 at 6pm on the Grand Final Day public holiday (Friday) but when we arrived it turned out we needn’t at all as it proved to still be a quiet evening.

Interesting place. This Korean restaurant offered an interesting choice of BBQ or
al a carte dining.

Not wanting to cook my friend and I chose the latter. I wanted something naughty and this ticked ALL the boxes lol

The food was good but afterwards I now feel too full and I feel like I've eaten too much grease.

We had Korean style fries/chips w cheese OMG this was moorish hahahaha

Then half a chook, deep fried and good!! Mnnn hahahaha

Then pork on rice good too. But then we ordered too much and we had a pancake which was greasy and heavy!!

I feel too full so a long walk was required I'm feeling better so I'd definitely recommend skipping the pancake unless that's all your having hahaha
Josie
Interesting food combinations. The beef bulgogi quesadilla was absolutely delicious. Preferred that over the bulgogi tofu burrito which was heavy and plainer, because of the rice. Service was great. Will be returning.

Went here last night for a birthday dinner; service was good, food was decent. I really liked the japchae with bulgogi, the spicy chicken on rice with cheese were tasty however they were a tad stingey on the cheese, the fried chicken was ok as well. Didn't get to try the bbq dishes as we were a big group and couldn't all fit on the bbq tables.
TresHungry
The korean fried chicken here is brilliant, no doubt about that. I can't decide whether it's better than Gami, so I'm just going to put them at the same level. The breading on these are on the heavy side, but that's what gives it that great crunch.
FOOD TRIP
Korean restaurant specialising in Korean Fried Chicken and Korean-Tex Mex fusion dishes while also providing the option to BBQ. Chimac offers a bright and modern dining area with plenty of space to eat and relax, both inside and out. Their food is a bit pricey, but it's great stuff. Would recommend trying out. Perfect for bigger groups.

I really enjoy eating here. Staff were really attentive and food came out really fast!! The chicken was delicious and also the spicy pork dish. Would defs come here again!!

They've got the stuff but needs to up their game!

Great location, not far from the City, Public Transport right at the front, parking could be challenging and offering something different in the middle of Vietnamese food epicenter.

Attractive simple Menu to enjoy, all good stuff, their Fried chickens is good, but more than 30 minutes to wait for your food is unacceptable, no matter what's going on in the kitchen nor how many people are waiting for their food.

Service can be VERY long especially when you only have 2 staff to tend for the whole restaurant.

There's no effort in appeasing us patrons.
Mrs Mark
We probably ordered the wrong thing - choosing traditional Korean dishes rather than the tacos but the food wasn't bad. Fresh and tasty. The service was okay too. I'd definitely try the fried chicken next time.
Tims2929
Not that great! I think the setting for restaurant is great especially for a warm nights. Service is so so. Chicken was well undercooked...menu is confusing.
Cass
I absolutely LOVE this place. It is modern Korean, but you can still get traditional Korean style BBQ meats cooked at your table. All of the fried chicken flavours are delicious too. I'm yet to try the tacos, but if the rest of the menu is anything to go by then I'm sure they are great. The only improvement I would suggest is a better range of beer and wine.
Choc Pudding
I love their quesadilla. I had their crispy chicken, but I think they are just okay. I guess the curiosity of mexican korean fusion is what makes it exciting to go here.

Newer update:
I went with bigger group this time and ordered crispy and soy chicken although we didnt recognise the difference btwn the crispy and soy chicken. The chicken was just okay. Jap chae was really sweet with strong sesame taste. Seafood pancake was pretty good and big serving. My favourite is still the k-quesadilla, we had bulgogi flavour and it was really yummy. Rice portion per bowl is so big, next time should just share it between two.
Good Food Chaser
I've only had their Korean Fried Chicken so far (the crispy & the wonder soy). Wonder soy is something I would not have again - chicken was overcooked. The crispy one is pretty good, tasty and tender.

I would like to go back and try their other offerings. I will have a sit-in dinner next time. Service is quite good although I only had take-away both times I went.

We were feeling like some Korean fried chicken however were lazy to make the drive to the city in peak hour when we stumbled across Chimac!
The venue itself was cosy and cute and had a good variety of beers to choose from.
We ordered the chicken and japchae (sweet potato noodles) and were quite satisfied. The taste of the food was quite nice, however a little bit overpriced for the quality. In comparison to other Korean fried chicken places, Chimac's is not the best, however still do a good job.
Due to their prices we were expecting a bit more.
It's a good place to sit back, have a drink and eat salty cheat food with a bunch of mates, however is nothing unique and memorable.
Kate Sutho
The tacos are yummm! Went here not knowing what to expect and was highly delighted! The serves are pretty massive and I made the mistake of ordering too much food, least i got to try lots of different tasty dishes!

Loved it. Great to have a Korean alternative to the fabulous Arisoo and (perfect lunch spot) Seoul Soul all within 250 metres of each other.

Menu is a fairly simple affair and the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) is piping hot, fresh and delicious. Takes longer to cook than most of the other dishes - two of us had the spicy pork belly with rice followed by half a chicken. Portions are very generous - chicken served in pieces and certainly felt like more than a half chicken. And good value too.

Recent visit (Oct 2016) = considerable drop in standards and quality. Expanded menu in the non-BBQ section and possibly trying to achieve too much. Sweet & spicy chicken was pretty ordinary (too sweet and little chilli/spice). Disappointing. And almost empty (and has been a few times when we walked past - used to be pretty popular).

Service is prompt. Food was hot and delicious. We ordered Kimchi carnitas basket, spicy pork quesadillas, soy and bloody sweet fried chicken, soju and grape bong bong. Waitress kindly offered to split the quesadilla into portions that suited the 5 of us which was very thoughtful. Loved every dish!

Arrived chimac at 9:15pm tonight hoping they wouldn't turn us down. It was pretty quiet as shop was closing soon, and a rainy Tuesday night. We ordered a mix n match chicken, of ultra crisp vs wonder soy. Chicken was fresh and juicy, cooked really well. Kim chi pancake was also a generous serve with intense flavours. Chimac is definitely becoming once of my favourite korean chicken & beer shops in melbourne!

The wonder soy chicken beats those at Joomak and gami. Love the chicken! Quesadillas are also a must-try. It's also a worthwhile experience having the Korean BBQ too! Staff could be more friendly though!

Very authentic Korean restaurant with yummy fried chicken. Always a favourite of mine. Affordable. Quick service. Delicious 😋. Can't wait to go back

Very interesting theme: went here a few months ago with a mate, and wasn't sure what to expect. Mexican and Korean? hmmmm. It Turned out to surprisingly work and each flavour complimented something else. Loved the Quesedillas and panake and other dishes...Very nice. I would definately go back... Well done & good revolutionary eating here :)

Delicious Korean. Tee BBQ Bulgogi is fantastic. Portions are good, it is a little pricey but worth it. Staff are lovely and drinks are well priced. All up a great "Korean Hipster" diner.

Have tried this place a few times now and probably won't go back. The service has always been average and the food overpriced. Better Korean options on Victoria Street.
Filled With Food
Korean and Mexican are two of my favourite cuisines and when you put them together you get CHIMAC PLUS. This was my first time eating at a restaurant that is inspired by both Korean and Mexican food and I am utterly impressed. I love how the place is spacious, with an option to sit indoors and outdoors (undercover). I arrived at 6:30pm and it was quite empty but as the night rolled on, it got busier. On each table there was a cup with sticks inside. At first we thought it was just for decorations but you can actually nibble on them whilst you wait for your food. They are fried spaghetti sticks seasoned with salt. It doesn’t have a strong taste but it is quite crunchy. There were five of us and we ordered six dishes. The first dish was the bulgogi quesadilla. This is like a flat pizza, suffered with beef and cheese. If you love something a little bit crunchy and packed full of cheese, this one is for you! If you can’t take the heat, watch out for the jalapeño. The second dish was the seafood pancake, made from prawn, squids, onion and scallion. This dish was to die for! It was probably one of my favourites. It is very delicate and breaks easily if you don’t grip it right. The sauce was slightly salty and sweet, which complimented the seafood quite well. The seafood itself was cooked just right and it doesn’t have an overpowering seafood smell. You must order this dish! The Cal Chi (half soy chicken with panko calamri) was smaller than I expected. This dish was $32 and probably not worth it. The

Interesting mix of Korean with Mexican. The quesadilla with chilli pork was good but the deep fried chicken was much better at gami, especially the White radish. Chimac White radish with the chicken was not very tasty. However, if you have never tried a fusion Korean restaurant with Mexican, you should check it out
Forever Hungry
Has potential but needs some improvement. Went here for dinner on saturday - nice fitout and decor with awesome beer on tap (brunswick bitter etc).
Food was tasty but the fried chicken was pretty average. Service was poor with staff encouraging us to order more food which ended up being very expensive ($75 for 2) with WAY too much food leftover. Our dishes came out one at a time with staff forgetting one of our dishes.

Chimac ticks all the boxes for an great dining / drinks experience but really needs to work on the service which was a huge letdown.
Daz
Fried chicken please!!!. Had the ultra crispy chicken and seafood pancake this evening. Portions were good and they were yummy!
Love the quirky and cute decor - even the toilet lid has a smiley face! :)

Only issue that evening was I ordered a cider from local brewery Thunder Road, and instead got a canned cider made in Belgium. When I queried it, the waiter said that was it. Odd.
Tram Bui
I've been to a few Korean restaurants and in my opinion chimac is average. Although the menu options sound unique, when the food came out it didn't look too complex.

Great service, however overpriced
Paul_baron
Who would have thought Korean combined with Mexican would be this good?. Loved this place. We went there with the kids who enjoyed the deep fried Kimchi & Chicken - I loved the the quesadilla - just works! The Plum Boy was excellent also. The local Collingwood tap beer and wine was really reasonably priced. I had a chance to chat to the manager - such a nice and genuine person - she gave a toy to my daughter as we were leaving.
Loves A Spud
Great food almost overshadowed by poor service. 8 of us dined here recently. Started with jugs of beer, fries & tacos. Afterwards we ordered quesidillas & burritos which the waiter forgot to order. We enquired about 45 minutes later and the chef had to sort it out. The waiter stood beside the chef and didn't acknowledge the oversight in any manner. We were compensated with 1 extra jug of beer.
Service was pretty bad but the food was awesome.
*There is no need for wait staff to jog around the restaurant when it's not even a third full. It's unnerving!

Will definitely come back in the hope service has improved.
Sean_thompson53
Decilcious and cheap. BBQ for two was delicious and was only $36
Fun
Loved the fusion dishes! Would definitely be back!

My Favorite Place!. So glad this has moved to my neighborhood. Such a smart way to fuse Korean and Mexican food. Must try everything on the menu!

LOVE THIS PLACE. The waitress is amazing and friendly!
Lunch is great - will be back!

Delicious! A sleeper hit waiting to be discovered.. We had a wonderful family meal for four at this Korean-Mexican gem: the Ultimate BBQ set, fresh, super tasty tacos, washed down with creamy, smooth rice beer and topped off with friendly, attentive service. If you can suspend any suspicions about the marriageability of Korean and Mexican cuisine, then you're in for a treat as good as, if not better than, any of the myriad options on Victoria Street. Do yourself a favour and eat there and give this restaurant the best chance of staying open in the merry-go-round that is the cheap eatery scene here.
Hien Karni
This is my preferred Chimac compared to the North Melbourne. It's less cramped, with a brighter decor. Similar to North Melbourne, Korean-Mexican fusion food was of a good quality and the staff friendly & attentive.
Christine
Amazing food. The food was very different from the traditional Korean food you have in Melbourne. It's fusion of mexican and korean food together.

We had tacos with bulgogi. For entree tofu with kimchi and cheese and pork. It was simply refreshing and new.

The customer service was extremely fast and friendly.

Would recommend anyone looking for a different place to eat on a night out. Super chillax and spacious place.

The food would also go with some awesome beer.
Chasing A Plate
...The eatery is bright and modern, catering to those who want to sizzle their own steak at the front of the restaurant and diners who prefer the kitchen to sort them out, at the back. We decide to go for a mix of modern and traditional and order the spicy pork belly, the bulgogi burrito and at the last minute throw in an order for a half serve of the Chimac crispy fried chicken....
The Hungry Excavator
Besides that, the other highlights of my meal here was definitely the KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN (KFC) and Kimchi Cheese Fries. The chicken here is hands down my favourite one in Melbourne and trust me, I've had my fair share over the years.
