Seriously the best burger I have eaten! Fresh and tasty! Very well priced. Friendly customer service. A must try! Even if your not local like me, very worth the drive.
Do yourself a favour and order the L.A.X burger and a large cheesy fries both animal style. This combo was so so good.
I’ve had a lot of burgers in my time but the classic burger was the best I’ve had yet. Nice, clean, crisp and a PERFECT balance. Didn’t have oil dripping down my hands like other greasy burgers. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a solid burger. Fries were great also.
I visited this burger restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks back and I cannot believe it has taken me so long to get there. Their burgers are utterly amazing!! I had the special Steven Segal which has three patties that were basted in Buffalo sauce! Incredible!
They were the first to do the smashed pattie in Melbourne and boy do they do it well. Wonderful friendly service, good quality food, what more could you want.
Definitely check them out!
We came into California Burgers the other night to try the new Steven Seagal burger and the famous smashed patty burgers.
ordered the lettuce bun burger and it was definitely one of the better ones if not the best I have tried in Melbourne. You can also get the option on all burgers to add some delicious grilled onion – I definitely recommend this as it adds such a great flavour to your burgers
The Steven Segal burger was so unique, the meat is marinated in bbq sauce , the taste was out of this world, very hard to put into words so you defs need to come here and try it for yourself !
The cheesy fries are visually insane and really delicious too, love the chicken salt they put on to season the chips and the slice cheese on the fries is something unique and really good!
The churros and jam donut we got for dessert were also a great dessert to end the meal, I loved the jam donut as it was not too sweet and the jam was a bit tart .
Thanks for having us !
Finally got around to trying California burgers last night via Uber eats I ordered the classic Californian with extra bacon and the fries with cheese and bacon and was not disappointed burger was very tasty and the pickles they use were awesome fries were pretty good huge serving as well I only got thru about half of them. Would definitely recommend this place and will be going back again that’s for sure!!!
If you're looking for a delicious burger with no frills, California Burgers is the place to be!
Conveniently located opposite the station on the Windsor end of Chapel Street, this burger place serves up burgers and sides exactly like the ones you will find in the US.
The staff are absolutely gorgeous which makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
On my visit, my friend and I ordered The Rush Burger, The Venice Burger and the Chicken Thighs & Fries. Absolutely delicious and will be back again to try the rest of the menu 😍

👏👏👏👏👏 I’m pretty impressed cause this is a little shop. Who would’ve thought that they have these delicious classic American burgers!! Good size ! Massive burger , fresh bun . The thinness of the patty is just perfect . Also tasty and juicy.
The fries are probably not the best I’ve eaten but they’re not too bad.
This is the best part...., Friday and Saturday they open until 4:00 am!! If you are parting around there you must try one of these burgers !! 100% recommended .
California Burgers are one of my favourite burger places in Melbourne. Located on Chapel Street in Windsor, directly opposite Windsor station, these guys know their burgers. With quite an unassuming shopfront, blink & you’d miss it, California Burgers have nailed some of the best burgers I’ve tried.
California Burgers pays homage to the diversity of burgers in LA & is the closest thing you’ll get to In & Out Burgers without getting on a plane. They are so committed, they visit the USA regularly to check out the trends.
My favourite is the Venice Burger, smashed beef patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, pineapple & pink mayo. I love the freshness of their burgers, the quality of the ingredients makes such a difference to the flavour. Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had.
California Burgers open at 5pm & are open super late to satisfy those late night Chapel Street burger cravings.
If you haven’t tried these burgers, you really need to sort that out & make a burger date, you will not be disappointed.
Burgers are delicious! the place is unique, located on fashionable Chapel st, I totally recommend a visit to California Burgers, this is a one of a kind experience.
"California Dreaming" of Best burgers in town @californiaburgersmelb in Windsor has to be top of the list ! 🍔🍔🍟🍟
Great little burger joint making the best of the best fresh smash patties with the freshest ingredients
Seriously the best burgers We have ever had. Everything down to the sauce !
Burger joints come and go, but California Burgers is approaching the ten year mark. Chapel St is brutal and the gentrification of Windsor means new places open and close. Yet Cali Burgs is still standing.
Modelled on Innout Burger (if you don't know, get to LA fast!), they are bringing a true American burger experience to Melbourne.
My go to is the LAX, I've even had the bun free version (Calabasas). Juicy smashed patty, fresh ingredients, sliced onion, firm tomato, crisp lettuce.... pink mayo is a nice touch. I just had their limited edition Rush burger designed by UFC legend, Georges St Pierre, for a big burger, i woofed it down FAST.
Cheese fries with chicken salt is a must. The jury is out on whether American cheese is actually cheese but damn it tastes good.
The interior is unassuming. Some signage to indicate its Cali, but not gimmicky or tacky. You wouldn't know from looking at the outside that this joint will house the finest burgers in Melbourne but here I am, standing in front of the counter, asking them to feed me.
Verdict: Essential eating.
I love their late opening hours, but I think if you only visit this place after midnight you’re doing them an injustice to how great the burgers are! California Burgers is kind of the burger equivalent of those hidden laneway bars in Melbourne. Glance from the street, or when you’re passing...
From the outside, California Burgers looks like a fairly nondescript takeaway joint, but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I received my burger. Not only was it delicious, it was so photogenic and as the saying goes, we eat with our eyes. I also loved the cheesy fries and the overall meal was as good as any of the much hyped burger places in Melbourne!
Alex: Slowly but surely, Melbourne has become our second home. At least a month out of every year is spent in one of my favourite cities in the world and I’m certain I can say that I know the city better than half my friends that actually live there!. Whenever we come down we like to spoil ourselves a bit and spend a few days in a hotel. We then spend the rest of the time in an AIRBNB.
It's easy to assume that California Burgers is just another run of the mill chapel street eatery. But one visit to the West Coast inspired burger joint will prove you wrong. California Burgers is not just a name, this family owned and run restaurant has brought authentic California styles Burgers to Melbourne. With a menu which pays homage to the diversity of California, California Burgers offers a tour for the tastebuds. Our trip started as all good ones do with an arrival at the airport. The LAX burger is a true representations of what a Cali burger should be: double cheese, double beef, house made pink mayo and all the usually extras. The Compton Burger celebrates the wonder of fried chicken, paring it with American cheese, onion, lettuce, tomato BBQ and Californians signature made Sriracha sauce. For those with a taste for the spicy, the East LA burger hits home with the usually, plus delicious jalapeños and a house made hot sauce. Our tour ending with an essential stop to Venice Beach. The Venice Beach burger, inspired by LA's tropical scenery pairs the Classic California burger with refreshing pineapple. Topping it all off with decadent cheesy fries, our tour of California Burgers was one to remember.
In a market saturated by gimmick burgers, eating challenges and flavours of the month, California Burgers is taking burgers back to their roots, and we loved it!
Little gem on Chapel Street for those wanting a quality burger that doesn't make you feel gross. The beef patties are thin (how I like them), and smashed on site fresh everyday. I had the Venice Burger and it was so full of fresh ingredients, and I loved the pineapple that kept it super fresh. Tried the chicken burger and it was cooked to perfection, white and crumbed so well. The fries are deliciously chicken salted. Also tried the cheese fries, which was melted american cheese on the fries - went a bit stiff so probably some cheese sauce would have been good too. Definitely a good place for a cheap and cheerful meal, that won't make a dent in your wallet. Staff are awesome!
Food was under eta time and still warm. Got the LAX burger and it was absolutely delicious! x2 beef patties cooked to perfection with melted cheese, fresh tomato and crispy lettuce all sandwiched together in a soft bun. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars, is because the fries tasted like cardboard! My housemate got the cheesy fries and they tasted like plastic because of the artificial cheese. Would definitely get the burger again though!
Stereotypical American style burger. Beef patty served more to the medium/well done side. Chips a huge serving, however slightly bland. Overall not amazed, but satisfied with the experience.
I’ve never met somebody who doesn’t like burgers, and if i did i would no longer speak to them. Burgers have been all the rage lately, in this world of burgers so big no human could possible take a civilised bite out of, are there any stand alone burger joints serving just a good old fashion burger anymore?
Had the LAX burger with cheesy fries. The burger was magic... Meat was cooked well and tasted fantastic, all fillings were fresh and the bun was the bizness.... Soft with some substance. Fries were good but nothing extraordinary.
Definitely worth checking out... Will not be disappointed.

I've had a fair amount of burgers since it's heavy influx in Melbourne, but this was the first time trying California Burgers. It's very In-And-Out inspired.
Order the LAX burger via ubereats, food was still hot, and my two meat patties weren't burnt despite reading below reviews. Uncooked onions aren't everyone's forte but I didn't mind as it wasn't overpowering anyway. All in all - I'd order it again.

Juicy burgers with that California style. Not many people may like it. But I love raw onion on my burgers and I like my burgers to be a little greasy. Especially if I've had a few drinks. These go down well.
I wish they all could be California! Well your burgers can! This delivery revolution is killing my diet but opening a whole new world up… or not as I don’t leave the house BUT we are trying food from places we haven’t been before! Including California Burger in Prahran, beautiful fresh burgers delivered to your door on a cold, miserable Winters night!
Nice burger little bit inconsistent in taste from time to time better that the average Ta shop
Nice dudes in there some times
The bloody chips are the worst ever please fix it
The meat on the spit also looks good cooking over real wood
Great place for a midnight burger! This wasnt just an average burger i had, it was something that you would find at a speciality shop. Amazing taste and quantity

This old souvlaki joint at the top end of chapel street has turned into an American style burger joint and is open to all hours of the night. Open every day from 5pm and Friday and Saturday open until 4am!. It's a pretty simple burger, but it's a good one - similar to in and out (so I've been told) all the right flavours on a nice soft brioche.
Burgers are ok but pretty expensive for what you get: $16. The service is average - I go there quite a lot and find that a smile from anyone working there, is a precious commodity.
One of the best beef burgers I have ever eaten, just a shame the venue isn't a bit nicer to sit in. Outside tables are ok, but inside it's a little bright. More of a takeaway place than an eat in place.
amazing L.A style burger, tastes like In n Out. These guys are open to 4am on weekends you can't go wrong. The LAX burger is amazing and the Brioche Buns are the best around
Expensive, but the closest burg to In n Out that is available. Bloody delicious.
So happy that I came across this burger restaurant on chapel Street. I was absolutely blown away by not only the food but the customer service was amazing as well. The quality of the food is crisp clean fresh and definitely well worth a try. Super awesome and amazing deals you cannot go past on chapel Street considering everything else around it was so expensive right now and not as good value or call it in you must try this burger restaurant. The owner Theo absolutely awesome guy very nice very down to earth very focus on his customers and his fresh food that he provides. I 100% recommend this place to anyone out there you must try it give it a go and you will never regret it thank you
Edited from 4 to 5 stars. Why? Because I went back for the second time this week, tonight for another meal. And this time the fries were perfect. (The burger and shake still perfect) in fact I’m going to review again, see next for why. Can’t work how to write a second review so will just add here.
I have tried Burgertory, and Bettys (2 times each, and unimpressed) and seriously, California Burger blows them out of the water. 😵😵😵 PRICE drop?! A young girl who served me tonight said my mail total to $18, I hesitated because just a couple of nights ago I paid $25 for the same meal, and I didn’t want her getting in trouble so I said something, she said no the prices dropped today. Frankly I would’ve been happy to pay $25 for this meal again tonight, and the amount of ice cream that is used in the thick shake, the shake is worth a lot more than six dollars. I tried the red velvet tonight, and I asked her if she could add a dash of chocolate, she said no problem. It’s absolutely to die for. 💯 will be back. Get the biggest burger - the one with pineapple, and try the half and half, with onion rings. Really good. The fries today were hot, but still the salt is a little underwhelming, but I guess I’m a fan of more seasoned fries~ again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Great friendly staff.

I wish I could have given 5 stars but the chips were woeful. Didn’t appear at all to be salted and were cold.
*Zero napkin in the bag which could be a pain for some.
Fortunately I was at home and able to salt and sauce my fries, and get napkins.
My jumbo burger was outstanding. Really faultless.
As was the shake, seriously good, and I’m quite fussy.
Young man serving was excellent, and the whole package beautifully put together. As seen in my picture, the cook was really a burger artist.
Overall impressed, would definitely recommend.
The fries definitely need attention though. Truly dreadful. Perhaps some type of flavoured salt could be an option. Ps. The store was near empty, so clearly I was served old fries. I get it, you hate waste, but customers paying 25$ for a meal deserve fresh fries. 🥳 I will be back for the burgers and shakes tho, maybe I will try the onion rings next time.

These are by far the biggest burgers you are gonna get for $7 dollars, the big cali is a massive feast for one, the taste is incredible and the presentation and staff are the best! Please come support cali birgers
Can't be more happy to find this little treasure in Windsor. Burgers are juicy and tasty, costumer service was impeccable especially comming from this young teenage crew.
Reminds me a little bit of the IN & OUT Franchise from the US.
Tasty burgers and quick service! We’ve ordered several times from here while we’re in the area and it hits the spot when you’re craving a good burger. The meat patties are thin, buns aren’t too oily, and flavour is packed in. On the last occasion our chips were a little underwhelming but I’m hoping it was a once off, will definitely order from here again.
Insanely cheap burgers, standard wait times, good taste.
Would recommend for lunch.
The Chicken Cali Combo was filling, delicious and great price at $12.
