Everytime were in Clayton, we come here for a snack- especially the patties. They take me back to the ones in India. So flaky on the outside with well- spiced filling.
Aside for the patties, the pastries which they are well known for are excellent and this place is also busy every single time.
The prices are reasonable, and the service is great too.
Excellent place to come if you have allergies (like my cousin) or if you are vegetarian. Opposite the clayton train station entrance. Well worth a try
This little bakery is not easy to get to due to limited parking and it's not easy to see from the road. I found it online because I wanted to order a vegan birthday cake. They do not use eggs or meat in any of their items. Apart from cakes they also sell a delicious range of vegetarian pastries with an Indian flavour.
My favorite place! And I would dare say a must-try place for all vegetarians, esp. those who don't consider eggs as vegetarian. A 100% vegetarian place just the way pure vegetarians (esp. Indians) deeply wish.
Tasted the best in cakes (all eggless), pizzas, even pies when I tested. No other place like it in Melbourne, when it comes to the number of varieties of delicious vegetarian pizzas (Indian style) they offer.
PS 2018:
They stopped offering pizzas, sadly in 2018..
Great bread!. I've only tried the bread here, but it was fantastic: soft on the inside, firm on the outside, and less than $3 for a full loaf. I think it was called cottage bread or cottage loaf. In any case, highly recommended.
The pie was edible. I stuck my head in Carinish Hot Bread after I got off the train on my way to work a shift at the psych ward in Monash Hospital, attracted by the "Pasticceria" part of the sign, hoping I could get coffee and a pastry. No dice on the coffee. I rocked back in at lunch to buy a pie, because it looked like your typical Aussie sort of joint. I hope I don't sound racist when I say I was surprised that the guy in charge is Korean. Clayton has a large Korean population, from the look of the shops, so it's only natural they'd do some baking. The product line that I saw was totally dinky-di, though.
I had a beef pie, the kind with a slurry of mince in the crust. The bloke said he made it in-house; that it wasn't bought from Bocastle or somewhere. I'm easy to please with pies. Anything that has a crust is 75% of the way to winning my heart from the outset. This one was OK, as large as my hand's breadth with the fingers spread, no funky oniony or weird spicy flavours to the mince, and not so full of salt or MSG that I got a thirst attack later. I forget whether the price was $4 or $4.50, but it was a fair deal. I've had worse pies prepared by ridgy-didge Aussies, so onya Korean baker-man!
Ordered the Vanilla pineapple 1/2 kg dahlia design cake for my daughters bday. Cake was very delicious, nice and light with a great fresh pineapple flavor. The cake was also beautifully designed and the right portion size for us (6-8 serves). Made an Isolation birthday that bit brighter, thanks.
Isher Gur saunf biscuit is too good in taste I just loved it. I will definitely try other flavours as well.
Learnt about this cake shop online and placed an order for a blackforest cake very easily through their site. I didn't place any follow up calls or emails after I placed my order, nor did I provide a pick up time on the day I choose. Order was ready when I sent my brother to pick it up at around 2-3pm on a Saturday. No issues were reported back to me about customer service. Only reason I mention this is because of another review here so I just wanted to clarify I didn't have an issue with ordering online or the pick up.
Everyone thought the cake was really good when I asked them! I didn't buy the cake because it was eggless, but I don't think anyone would have even known the difference. If you're an omni who's not keen on the idea of an eggless cake, have no fear, it's just as delicious as a cake with egg!
I think I would have preferred a bit more cream and cherries between the layers but that's moreso a very personal preference since everyone else thought it was a good ratio (I'm very much a huge cream and fruit girl to the dismay of my family who loves cakey goodness 🙈).
Another reviewer mentioned the handwriting could be improved and I'd have to agree that it would have looked nicer more centred but I understand it can be a bit tricky to place customised messages.
The cakes were also very affordable and I would highly recommend giving them a try. Definitely will purchase again.
EDIT: Have tried more of their cakes out! Love their vanilla cake but their red velvet was pretty dry and we didn't even finish half of the cake despite sharing the small cake among 6 adults. So will give that a miss next time!
Had a great experience with this bakery, had to get a vegan cake last minute for my 21st and this just happened to be the closest place to my house that could do it with only 2 days notice. The cake was absolutely DELICIOUS! Probably the best vegan chocolate cake I've had and my party guests loved it too! Will definitely be going back and recommending to my friends!
