Review Bread Kingdom - Melbourne

Definitely the best of the Asian-styled bakeries in the CBD, but also slightly pricier because of this. Everything is individually wrapped, which you either love or hate. Variety is great, and everything tastes super fresh. There's also a quaint little seating area at the back of the store that makes it feel like a cafe rather than a bakery to quickly dash in and out of. The staff are sweet, throwing in a free cream bun for us last time! My only gripe is that the ballads they play in the store just get dreary after a while.

I thoroughly enjoyed the cake. But staff members could be more engaging in interactions with customers. Overall satisfied and would recommend for their products.

I ordered a sweet potato cake for birthday. I didn’t expect as much as in Korea. My friends didn’t know this is sweet potato flavour, even though they tried. Because flavour is weak. I think regular flavour will be good. I tried one of breads, it was good. But don’t try sweet potato cake.

I ordered a custom-made cake for 100 days celebration of my little daughter. It was so much better than i expected, specially taste is really good and our guests fishished the huge cake with 3 levels. I properly re-order again for my girl's first birthday. It's a worth to buy to have & give a sweet memories on special day!

This place's high rating baffles me. I went after reading all the great reviews but was very disappointed. One review said it reminds them of Asia. I beg to differ. This bakery would be out of business if it was in Asia, guaranteed! I bought 2 pieces of breads, one with green tea/cream and one with sausages. The bread itself was very mediocre. They were not extra fluffy or soft or fresh or fragrant. The filling of the green tea cream was composed of some green paste and 2x the amount of whipped cream. It was so greasy and disgusting. Who eats this much whipped cream? I threw it away after a couple bites. Nothing stood out for the sausage bread either. Hours later I walked by the place again. thought perhaps my dislike of excessive whipped cream on anything clouded my judgment and that it deserved another chance. So I gave it another go and got the green tea bread. This one has the same green cream minus the whipped cream. Argh, it has no green tea flavor at all and the bread was as unremarkable as the ones I got earlier. And this place isn't cheap...perhaps the cakes are better. But nope, I am not spending another dime on this place.

Product quality seemed to have dropped since my last visit under the previous management. The sweet potato cake which I purchased for a birthday was rather disappointing. A few things seem missing. The cake is just like any sponge cake but a big price tag. There's no sweet potato bits in the cake like they use to have. The cream is no longer soft and fluffy like they used to be.

I bought a fresh scream cake for my friend’s birthday and we all loved it. It was so delicious that there were none left at the end I also bought a tiramisu sliced cake and it wasn’t too sweet and it was also very delicious. Thank you Duri!

They have good selection of Korean (old school) style bread which I love and I was so pleased to find out that they also have some rice cakes! They were so delicious! I highly recommend anyone to try out the rice cakes if you like to try new food!

My previous workplaces have denied me the luxury of being surrounded by food temptations and having recently relocated to a more central spot, the current options are endless. Some days I will get my sweet fix and other days, perhaps a pick me up coffee from down the road. Not a big fan of waiting for the trains to arrive but when most shops/cafes close a bit later, I can easily pop by for a takeaway and off I go in the nick of time to the train station.

An authentic Korean style Asian bakery. The blackforest cake from here is fantastic. A great place to grab a quick bite as prices are very affordable

Cheap place by city standards to have your coffee and cake. We ordered the fresh cream cake and croissant, they both tasted pretty good for how much we paid. My bf ordered the hot chocolate, he said it came too hot to drink but was nice. We dined in and for the croissant they still kept it in the plastic bag, I prefer it on a plate as we were having there. The service in there definitely not what I expected. Will go back just for take away something sweet.

Reasonable price and good quality. Less variation than before though.
For some reason, all the butter cream bread i bought yesterday had strong hint of unpleasant gas, very similar to that of nail polish. I remeber it used to be fine.

all the other bread kingdoms I've been to gave me free bread for spending only $15-20 and I spent over $60 in the one in the city and they couldn't even give me a free sausage bread.. also the one in the city is more expensive; the green tea/mocha/red bean cream buns are $3 in other bread kingdoms but the ones in the city are $3.20. I suggest going to the ones not in the city

It's Korean style bread shop and got another store in Springvale. The $2 cheese cake tastes extremely good, although it got little cheese that u could see from the cake, but the cake is sweet and soft, make me think whether it's the honey bread or not.

I got my mum a Sweet Potato Cake from Bread Kingdom back then for Mother's Day. Wish it had sweet potato incorporated in the cream filling like in Korea, but the cake is still soft, moist and delicious.

If you think that this is only just a bakery, sorry, you're wrong. They do amazing coffees and their shaved ice is the best. Dining environment and cute and cozy, perfect for sitting and chilling with friends.

Pretty average. They seem to over sugar coat everything. However I did find that the custard bun was perfect and had the perfect amount of sweetness and thickness! Best custard bun I have ever had!

Love the cakes and breads here, they're all very decent and affordable! I really enjoy the tiramisu here; not too sweet & definitely worth a try.

Just like the bakeries of east-asia. I love this pace. It's similar to most Asian/Australian bakeries such as Breadtop or Breadlicious, but it's much more authentic as far as variety and flavour go.
The atmosphere is very cool, too. The front part is the same as the cake stores i'd frequent in Japan, but the sit-down feels like a trendy little Fitzroy cafe'.
I just love this place. The prices are great and the food is constantly delicious.

LOVE IT!. The service was so good! went in and immediately greeted by a salesgirl and was offered a sample cake. wanted to buy a birthday cake and she was VERY helpful although her english is not good(she's korean). after buying the cake, i was given some freebies and it tastes really good. definitely going back again!!!!
Sylvia's POV
Favourite. They have baked my birthday cake two years in a row now and for many more to come, I hope. The buns are quite nice, although some of the ones with savoury filling are not to my liking as they are made with sweet bread. Nevertheless, the service and ambience is always delightful.
Nathan@foodie
Really good and fresh as always....
Can't stop eating...

Your bread is good. THE COFFEE BREAD BUNS ARE SO GOOD. You can buy them at 'papparoti', but the same ones are sold at bread kingdom for even cheaper - they still taste the same though, just cheaper. LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE them.

What I didn't know was that a free piece of cake comes with coffee. I had a long black ($3) and one green tea Swiss roll ($2) and a vegetarian bun ($2.20). The vegetarian bun seemed a little pricey for the size but it was filling. The bread was a little too sweet for a savory bun.
