Been here twice and both times it was amazing. 5/5 will be back again.
Cheap, yummy and quick service. Love going here when I feel like a quick meal whilst in the city. Not sure how authentic it is but it sure is delicious. Staff are also really nice and the iPads are easy to use.
Have been going to Ajisen ramen for years. If you want to have a quick dinner in Melbourne Central they are not a bad option. Service is normally quick and food with good flavours. Ordered take away today and it was great as usual. Salad, chicken ribs, fried rice, chips, pork cutlets all very nice! Nothing special but nothing to fault! Price is very reasonable as well!
My current obsession is a humble bowl of ramen🍜
I’m not sure if I’ve found the perfect one yet but the other day I stopped by at @ajisenramenmelbourne and ordered their soft shell crab ramen. I really enjoyed it!! It was quite a large portion that I was actually struggling to finish.
If you’re wondering where’s the egg?? I hate it. So avoided it.
The broth was simply gorgeous, packed with so much flavour. You can tell it’s been simmering in the pot for hours. The crab was cooked to perfection. Crispy, golden and delicious! It was served with noodles and veggies, so apt for this 🌧 weather.
Great ramen restaurant after renovation. Food was cooked perfectly. Strongly recommend gyu tan don (beef tongue rice).
This was my favorite ramen place for a long while but seemed to have dropped in quality. The curry katsu don was very oily and spicy. The curry sauce was a bit too salty and I didn't want to finish the rice with curry in it.
The Chasyu ramen was nice. The broth was good and the Chasyu was melt in mouth goodness.
One of the numerous ajisen ramen shop around Melbourne. They have a wide variety of food from noodles to rice dishes. The tonkotsu ramen have an average broth with crispy tonkotsu pieces. The tantan ramen is refreshing and very spicy at the same time!
This was our spot for birthday treat. Located in the busy Melbourne central is this serene location dedicated for them with a very good ambience.
Got ourselves the gyoza, spicy pork and spicy ramen with a pot of green tea to cleanse the fatty acids to some extent :D
The gyoza was a real treat with good chunks of prawn and chicken coming out of slightly stir fried, but moist dumplings. Then the spicy ramen didn't disappoint as usual with a very good spice mixed in a generous portion of their noodles and other ingredients.
However the spicy pork was abit of a disappointment as a hint of Tom yum flavor really mjsinteprets the term 'spicy' from the menu. The pork was well cooked though with alittle too much salt.
This is however the best ajisen ramen spot you can go to for an occasion.

Taste is pretty nice, but not as nice as i expected.
Price is affordable and its pretty worth with the quantity served. Many selection, even there are some selection for vegetarian. Environment is pretty nice as well.
However, would be great if the restaurant improve the taste of the food :).
My favorite go to place for their spicy meat chahan and their grilled salmon bento. Not really fancy their ramen as I’ve tasted better ramen in other places but those 2 rice dishes are really good. The place is big enough to accommodate large groups and also a friendly place for kids. They even brings out special cute plate, glass and cutleries for kids.
One of my fave japanese restaurants. Because it offers variants of affordable delicious food. Bento box is usually what I have. Staffs are experienced and friendly. Food and drinks served in reasonable time. If you’re having Japanese food craving, this is a place you can go to. But heads up, they don’t really have sushi here.
Friends and colleagues were craving about this place so I tried finally couple of weeks back.
Ordered the chicken Katsu curry. Firstly the portions were huge, Taste of the broth and the curry is delicious. I can compare this to a much better version of the Maggi with lot many flavours going on.
The ambience of this restraint was nice with nice seating with a separate area for families with kids which is good to have.
Would definitely recommend this place.
went here with a few friends as a night out, and it did not disappoint. lots of vegeterian options for my friend, and the servings were huge! the flavours were a bit bland but maybe it was just my dish as all my friends enjoyed their dishes. but deffinatley worth the money. ordered from ipads on the table, so we could take our time. waitresses were very attentive too. good job guys, will be back
I regularly come here and this time I decided to order the pork katsu curry and a root beer float. The order came out pretty fast and I was happy with the service. The curry was in fact spicy but in a good way. I'll keep coming back unless there is a reason not to and so far you haven't let me down!
Yum food! Although the portions aren’t that great, overall great Japanese place to eat at. Drinks slightly are overpriced but then again all restaurants all have overpriced drinks. Only place I go to eat ramen.
K: With our Japan trip looming in the coming weeks, I decided it was time to refresh my taste buds with a fresh Ramen dish. Located centrally in Melbourne, literally in Melbourne Central, I had always walked by but never had the urge to try Ajisen Ramen until today. Walking in, I was enthusiastically greeted and seated, given a tablet to order my meal. Oh the choices! Offering rice dishes to a coup of ramen varieties, you will be spoilt for choice at this restaurant.
Eventually I opted for the classic Tonkatsu Ramen which looked just as good as it did in the pictures as when it came. Tasting firstly the broth, as any ramen expert will tell you- this is an indication of things to come. The broth was smooth and creamy, however I couldn't help relate it to the soup I taste after making 2 minute noodles at home. Imagine this taste just more luxurious. Like 5 minute noodles perhaps... Regardless I actually quite enjoyed the broth overall. The noodles and egg were the highlight however. Very soft and delicious, some of the best ramen noodles I have had. The Katsu meat... A big let down. When you think of Katsu you imagine a soft, juicy and tender bite however this was very tough and to be frank just disappointing. Thankfully the rest of the meal was good, but was a shame that the main feature of the meal was it's biggest downfall.
Regardless the ambience, value and service you get here is definitely good and if you can get a well cooked or tasting meat I can only imagine how great this restaurant can be. Unfortunately I was let down today by the meat.
Food: 3/5
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Value: 3.5/5
A very convenient place to have some ramen if you're in a hurry. It may be a little difficult to find, but the store is actually quite wide and spacious. The staff were quite friendly and accommodating to us.
We tried the chicken katsu ramen. The servings were quite generous and the katsu was crunchy but super oily. Nevertheless it was really delicious. The ramen soup base was good but a bit too salty and oily.
The prices are also quite affordable and the menu offers a wide variety of choices.

Hands down one of my favorite places to get Asian food in Melbourne. Located in Melb Central, Ajisen is a very affordable , easy and quick option to grab some yummy food to eat either on the go/there itself. The quality to quantity ratio is just perfect. The amount you pay for the generous servings they offer is way above average. The ambience and service here is also superb.
I've been there twice so far and I've ordered the veg gyoza and Tori Karaage Chahan which is deep fried chicken w/fried rice ( pictured below) . On both occasions I was completely satisfied and would definitely go there again.
11/10 recommend!
Came here with some mates a while back, the ramen is of a good portion size with decent amount of pork cheek slices in the one I ordered 👌service was good with nice staff members, I recommend.
I was very satisfied with the quality and the value of the ramen. Had the samurai meal with spicy beef ramen and chicken wings, takoyaki, my friends had the sumo meal with spicy fish ramen and they got a business bento box.
We were all very satisfied and would definitely come again.
Decently priced and very friendly service that was very refreshing compared to other japanese restaurants.
Really good experience.
I had the Toree Karaange Ramen which was deep fried chicken, vegetables and Ramen. I have to say it was my first time and I wasn't disappointed. The chicken was crispy and cooked well, the Ramen are my favorite type of noodles and the broth was excellent. For 12.50 a bowl it was perfect. The portion size for me was quite large. The salmon bento box would be my next choice.
Special mention the staff were lovely and table service was really quick for a busy Sat lunch service.
Lovely service by the waitress that tended to us. Though they were close to closing (we didnt know that prior to entering) she didnt show any annoyance, nor did they rush us out. The curry ramen was amazing, i highly recommend trying this broth. Would return :)
Went to this place one day to try out, and it was a great choice. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I'm a big ramen fan, but everytime I go I'm always happy with my food.
Great food. Good location. The teriyaki tofu is da bomb 💣. Only thing wrong is that there is a lot of staff, but none of them helpful. Very stingy on water. Almost died of thirst in this restaurant
Well I actually wasn’t expecting much as a) had been told it was pretty average, 2) it was pretty quiet and 3) it’s a reasonably prolific ramen chain store. However, I was pleasantly surprised with my toroniku ramen – that’s the grilled pork cheek. For starters, it’s great to have a really extensive menu and with a lot of options, which is a change from the traditional ramen joints. The other cool difference is the quantity of meat, it was much more satisfying having a few bits to bite rather than the usual centimetre slice you get in other places.
I love this place one of my fave dish here is the sizzling chicken, creamy and sweet white sauce with veggies on a hot plate serve with rice, the ramen is nice. Lotus root chips are a combo of salty and crunchy goes great with beer. The drinks are amazing here, love the green tea ice cream. Service are good here, they all greet you as you walk in and out of the restaurant. Most of their restaurant are spacey so its kid/pram friendly and the tables are easy to move around if you are coming in a big group.
Loving the flavours of the broth. I had the spicy ramen, even though it was too spicy for me, i still enjoyed it. All the flavors were there. There were many ingredients in this bowl which made it more enjoyable. I would definitely come back here for ramen
Fantastic tasting beef broth! Also has some damn good tasting entrées. Only thing is it is a bit pricey, but it does taste great and come in decent proportions!
The ramen noodles are not too thin and is quite chewy. The broth is very flavourful. They aren't shy when it comes to toppings as well and the toppings don't overwhelm the broth and noodles.
First experience with Ramen and it was great comfort food on a chilly Melbourne day. Beef Ramen had lots in it and it was much more than just soup.
It's the first time I've been to the store at Melbourne Central. I used to visit the Bourke St store every once in a while but ever since the ramen craze started in Melbourne I've mainly been going to the other ramen specialists. After trying out pretty much every single ramen store in the CBD, I still think that Ajisen offers the best value for money. They are not stingy with ingredients and prices are always very affordable, plus it's a chain so the quality is considered to be quite consistent. I also like how they include a generous amount of vegetables such as brussel sprouts, fungus and cabbage. The soup broth can be a bit salty and thick, especially the miso ones, and I'm pretty sure they use MSG. Service is very basic so don't expect a great warm welcome and stuff like that, although they do try to be like other Japanese stores and yell "irrashimashae" when you walk in. The other positive aspect about this place is that there are many other choices on the menu including tapas, donburi and bento boxes, which allows for more variety especially if you are dining in a group. I don't mind coming back more often.
I like to come here for a meal with a couple of friends. Very filling and tasty ramen in a quiet spot. Decor is nice and service is efficient. Great for a rainy day when you need something hearty and don't want to wander the streets for a place to eat.
Their ramen is quite nice. Had the grilled salmon bento box, which was really good. The service is average. The atmosphere is nice, but it is a little dark inside.
Our comfort food, the place to go when we couldn't decide what to eat. Our favorite menu Beef ramen (either chargrilled beef ramen or curry beef ramen), gyu tan don, salmon bento and takoyaki. Tasty and affordable. We've been dining here for about 5 years and we'll be back for more!
Their ramen was okay, service was okay as well,
their taste are not authentic but if you are not fussy and just want to have a fast lunch then this is the place.
Wish I could visit Ajisen Ramen everyday! The volcano ramen is a definite must-try. The atmosphere and staff are inviting. Very reasonably priced - would highly recommend this as a good value for money eat in Melbourne!
Can't really go wrong with this place, they've now come up with a new menu ! Lots of new and exciting dishes to try and a wider range of ramen choices. For someone who wouldn't pick ramen for dinner as their first choice , my mind changed when I went here last weekend. The broths can be customised and the staff members are always smiling. Comfort food at its best !

Located at Melbourne Central. Really like the ramen thats served with crispy tomkatsu. Their portion is big for me. Their soup is rich in flavour:)
My wife and I enjoy Ajisen Ramen, and it is often our ramen shop of choice (the Melbourne Central location, and the one near Bourke and Russell St.). My wife is Japanese, and says there are better places to get ramen, but Ajisen offers a great deal of variety, and the taste of the tonkotsu ramen isn't bad at all. Besides, it's not like every ramen you can have in Japan is necessarily better. Often, it's not. Last week, we ate ramen in Iida-shi (Nagano prefecture, Japan), and the tonkotsu broth was too salty.
Ajisen Ramen is a chain restaurant, which means the consistency can get a bit boring. Also, you're never going to have an amazing ramen. However, the ramen is good, the broth is OK, and the servuce is usually quite good.
Oh, and the price is reasonable, unlike places like Hakata Gensuke, which is better but lacks variety.
Went last week for lunch. The place looked nice, a bit noisy and one thing I didn't like was that my order took quite a while to come but overall it was pretty good.
Sometimes chain restaurant lacks surprises but here they are still doing okay. Broth of Toroniku Ramen (grilled pork cheek) is rich and smooth, not salty. Pork is kinda fat and juicy, but the lean part is a bit chewy, can be much softer if better grilled. Love the crispy skin of Tofu Dengaku (deep fried tofu with miso sauce), its miso sause is thick and yum. I also like that Takoyaki (grilled octopus ball) is not too floury.
Been here twice and its a great, clean, efficient joint at mc. Never go wrong when the ramen craving kicks in! Mmmmmmmmm!
Partner always choose the octopus balls as entree and i always had a green tea w my ramen. Only negative.. Perhaps a more traditional green tea powder or in a lil pot rather then in a little cup with a commercial green tea packet??
Flavourfull ramen broth. Had the volcano ramen which was supposedly one of the spiciest ones they had. Got really excited about it only to get a bowl of ramen with tons of chilli that wasn't even spicy to begin with. At least the soup was rich and flavourful. Service is slow but other than that. A pretty reasonable place to come for affordable ramen.
Food perfect for the rainy cold Melbourne weather... Ate different types of ramen and rice meals and green tea ice cream... coupled with great company! Thumbs up!
Randomly dropped by as I was craving for dinner. Tried the ramen with pork belly (not the deep fried one) but it was ok, nothing special though. The daikon chip is better and came as soon as I just finished ordering. The staffs are lovely. Overall, nice decor, nice customer service and good value of money
Came to Ajisen with my girlfriend before hitting the cinema the other night. Despite our table being quite small (we're both rather tall, and it was difficult for us to fit), we had a good meal.
Both of the two karaage dishes we had for entrées were nice, with the tori (chicken) being much better than the buta (pork). The mayonnaise served with them was fresh and light, however the salads weren't incredible.
The ramen itself was very good - the broth wasn't overly salty, which has been a problem at other ramen bars we've tried. The noodles were well-cooked, and the vegetables were fresh. The traditional egg was gooey and delicious. A very solid dish.
The atmosphere wasn't incredible, with it taking a while to wave someone down to get drinks - it would have been nice to have the option to have a bottle of water on the table.
All in all, good food without being outstanding. Would definitely return if the mood takes me.
