Very nice local restaurant. Have been here before longer time ago for breakfast with friends. On this occasion we have celebrated Birthday. Our reservations choice was table outside. And we were pleased with this as whether was perfect. Excellent service. Have to highlight that Andrew was so nice, caring, polite, professional that we would come back strait away. Thank you Andrew. Food we ordered was very tasty, specifically Bavette 1 kilogram. Prawn and mango salad was very nice too. Only for calamari as main, wouldn't give 5 star. Wedges and kids burger and Penne bolognese have been good. Great choice of all drinks, non alcoholic and alcoholic. Tumb up to all friendly staff. We have been looked after. Definitely will come back.

Really excellent food. The meal in the picture was great and I had the beetroot veggie burger, which was sensational. Good menu, nice beers on tap and good cocktail.

Came here for a quick lunch today with my elderly grandfather and the staff were so lovely and helpful. The marinara risotto was was flavoursome, topped with Morton Bay Bug and the lamb shoulder that I had melted in your mouth. Service was fast, friendly and attentive.

Lovely. Great menu with inventive adaptations of classic dishes. Great coffee!! I was here for breakfast and will aim to come back for dinner and the thoughtfully selected wine list. Really pleasant and professional service. Spacious modern interior with quirky retro “general store” theme and lots of outdoor seating. Near the train station and bus routes. Great example of an outer suburban eatery punching above its weight. Highly recommended.

Lovely lunch for 2. We shared nearly all the starters..which worked well and all plates were delicious. Open and breezy on a warm Summers day. Very good, friendly service...and so nice to be out and about.

Good service. Main gripe was menu was different than the menu on their website. Different pricing and different dishes, which was disappointing as I'd picked this dining option due to the menu selection. Calamari and salad beautiful but overpriced at $38 for a main. Fish used in the fish burger and the fish and chips, was so thin. Fish in the burger was dry and had a pullapart texture like chicken and was dark batter that looked overcooked. and the beer batter fish n chips was mostly batter and over half was removed. Chips great, sauces great. Just didn't meet expectations for the prices.

I'm always up for trying new places, especially in Mentone and Parkdale, so we went to The Corner Store for Burger night last week. The Burgers looked and tasted like a 5 year old had thrown them together. So bland! The staff were so lovely, honestly went above and beyond, but the guys in the kitchen really need to pay more attention. Plus I had a very unhappy stomach the next morning! What a shame, as the atmosphere and interior are lovely. Doubt I would bother going back.

Just wanted more. The milkshake was flavoursome and tasted exactly like bounty. The orange juice was fresh and the perfect palette cleanser. Definitely recommend this place!! There is lots of seating inside and out! Will guarantee to have friendly service and delicious food.

Fantastic place! The new management who have taken over have made this place so amazing. The renovation this venue has had is stunning. It feels so spacious but can be nice and intimate at the same time. The menu is so much better too. The steak is to die for! I often come here with work mates and we always have a good night! Such a great place. We went for breakfast yesterday, the morning of my eldest daughter's wedding, and the staff were wonderful. The food was so delicious and I recommend The Corner Store to absolutely everybody. xxx

After a shocking start - confusion reigned over a cocktail order whereby three staff and the owner all got involved - I was somewhat impressed how the rest of yhe evening went. Excellent food, excellent service ( apart from the initial mess up ), and great atmosphere. We don't generally dine at 'bars' or 'pubs', but will definitely return to The Corner Store......the reno and relaunch is an absolute success!! Well done.

Very busy, wait staff very friendly, little bit slow on the coffee order but there breakfast menu was really good, good options with the dyi breakfast, will definitely go back again.

Fantastic food and drink. Perfect steak. Great service of a medium size party. Everyone in the party was happy. Special dietary needs catered for Would definitely recommend and eat there again.

Sadly i was there for dinner last night and ordered the crab, chilli , capers linguine..it was very salty and smelled quite fishy...i gave it back and they ask me if i would like something else..i said no and it was taken off our bill..but i must say my stomache wasnt happy later last night..and on top of the bad meal the service wasnt great either..a shame really as we use to eat there before the new renovations ...

One of our favorite breakfast/Lunch hang out places. Great place, service, food and coffee, oh and little Summer loves the milkshakes. :) 6/7/17 : Renovations look great and the food is the best as per normal. I'll be coming back very soon. Pulled Pork Benedict No.1.

We used to come here fortnightly. Expensive for what you get. Wait staff were rude, asked us to find our own table and we had to get our own menus. Waitress was unapologetic to the point of accusatory when she got our order wrong. Mistakes can be made, we are all human, but when you make no effort to correct those mistakes it’s poor service. Food took forever to arrive and was very bland. All in all a regrettable experience and we won’t be returning.

Food is always amazing but the service is terrible. As usual no one took our drink order, so we ordered at the bar, then had to ask to have our dinner order taken. Ordered more drinks when the meal arrived but the waiter forgot to put the order in. Happens every time! Come on Corner Store, get your act together! Mentone needs a good restaurant with good food & good service.

Great service and even better food. Tasting plate was amazing and Mentone Burger was an uncomplicated and perfect! Thank you to the awesome staff!!

The corner store has been one of my favourite cafes to go to. I had not been there in a little while due to moving away from the area but i was not disappointed when i came back! The garlic prawns is definitely a must try here. The wild rice gives it a beautiful texture along with the tiny diced tomatos which gave a burst of flavour with every bite. Friendly wait staff and very attentive. Look forward to coming back!

This is my new local and they make great coffee. They are always so fast and efficient and the coffee perfectly made. Second time I tried some food and it was definelty worth it.

Cute place for a catchup, parking is a little annoying as there are none, you will have to park at the station and walk across. Staff were friendly, coffee was good and food/menu a large variety to chose from.

Excellent service. We came for a small meal in the evening. Had share plate of Nachos - big. And sticky date shared for dessert. Waiters were interested in helping with ordering. There’re secluded areas and other areas which are quite noisy<br/>

Dropped into check it out. Why did I do that? Had the open steak sandwich. Very very boring. No taste at all. Tomato sauce was required to add any flavor. <br/>$22 for a very basic (tasteless) steak sandwich. All their prices are over the average. Not for me my friends. Not happy Jan

I wanted to like this place more but for me the popcorn chicken just didn’t do anything for me. Also just serving it with aioli wasn’t enough. It would best served with some lovely Vietnamese slaw. The coating was salty but the chicken inside tasteless (thigh meat I think). <br/><br/>The mussels were good but not enough of them (they are so cheap to buy you’d think they could’ve given you a full bowl) and what soupiness there was was good but again not enough and one piece of bread to mop it up was stingy. nice seeing whole slices of garlic and chilli in the soup. <br/><br/>I wish the people who ran cafes would sit down and eat their own food once in a while. Yes both meals were less than $20 each but I was disappointed and especially when I had to go and get the menu myself. <br/><br/>It’s a huge place and has seating undercover outside with doggie friendliness but you need more and on the ball staff bcz I hate going somewhere and then having to do my own waitressing. Once the service started it was better. Menu was large and inviting but as I said I won’t be back.

Pleasantly surprised! All the way out in Mentone. As soon as you step out of the station this buzzing cafe is across the street and livens up the place. Friendly staff greet you at the door and service is quick. The bread served with my already delicious egg/cheese/beans dish was soft and tasty. Great place to meet with friends!

Went here wondering if there would be anything I could get and I was pleasantly surprised by the menu! I ordered the vegan sandwich which was awesome! Can’t go wrong with grilled vegetables, vegan mayonnaise & bread! Also came with some shoe string fries and ketchup. I was stoked. Thanks and will come again.

So extremely disappointed after seeing that my zucchini and halloumi fritters came without the halloumi. As I was eating the fritters which mind you are three tiny fritters with avocado on the bottom and some leafy greens I noticed I couldn’t taste any halloumi. I thought they may have put it in the mix, however after looking on Zomato I noticed it normally sits on top, which mine had none. Definitely not worth the $18 that I paid and now knowing that I didn’t even get half my dish. It would have been nice if I was notified that there was no halloumi left and I would have chosen something else. I don’t understand how the chef’s can leave out something on the menu that is in the name of the dish and the wait staff not pick it up either... I decided to give this place another go after I had a negative experience before . However, after this one I will now be avoiding in future.

A great place to go to catch up with friends for drinks or food. They're open all day from breakfast until late, so it's great for those occasional 3-4pm late lunches/early dinners when everywhere else is shutting down.<br/><br/>The service is always great and there is always at least two to three tables free during peak hour and the food comes out quickly regardless of the time of day.<br/><br/>My favourite dishes are the breakfast fritters, granola, calamari and their wedges. Their coffee is also great, especially their iced coffee.

We came here for dinner one night and ordered their pastas. The ambience is quite nice and the service was prompt and friendly. The food was so-so but presented well. I had the pumpkin ravioli which was a little overcooked but nice and sweet. The texture of the dish though was kindda mushy.

This place is great. I have had breakfast and I have had dinner here. The breakfast is always good. The dinner is nice, some meals are a bit bland but others are great, they make a great burger and parma. The service here is excellent.

I'd only come here for the coffee, good coffee.<br/><br/>I have tried a number of dishes from their menu and in one way or another they have been below my expectations.

With the new renovations, this place looks and feels great, for all experiences whether is brunch with the family, drinks with mates or a nice dinner out with the partner. <br/>Nice food, great bar selection and friendly staff. <br/>Been coming here for a while now and never disappoints

Ate at the corner store for lunch and had the Pork Crackling Benedict. I thought it was tasty however I’ve eaten something similar before and I didn’t think it was mind blowing. Atmosphere was good and staff were very friendly and willing to have a joke with customers.

second time visiting this joint, newly renovated, looks great. Great outdoor seating, and dog friendly.<br/><br/>we ordered an ice coffee, sunny side up juice and calamari main to share. Very long wait for the juice (20 mins) and it wasn't even freshly squeezed which was a dissapointment considering the time it took to come out.<br/><br/>The calamari was very good ! nice fresh salad on the side.<br/><br/>Seems to be better than the last time i visited. Probably would return if in the area for a quick lunch or coffee.

We were quickly seated with menus and water by a group of friendly staff. The seating area was spacious and comfortable. We ordered lattes, the big breakfast and the brekkie roll. The coffee tasted under extracted and dirty. It could definitely use some work. The food on the other hand was great! Best scrambled eggs I've ever had. The chorizo was delicious ss well.

Came here to meet my accountant. Was not expecting much and did not actually plan to eat here. The place presents well and has indoor outdoor sing. I ordered a slowed cooked pork bun with crackling. I must say hard to faulted. In one word Delicious!!!

The Corner Store looks fresh and eye catching, but a lack of soft furnishings make this a very noisy place to dine. The staff are friendly and approachable but the whole experience was kind of average. The calamari and chips were fine, but really just seemed like they were from a box in the Coles freezer isle, which doesn’t justify the price. Same with the chips. Fondant was pleasant and well done, a nice finish! Nothing bad, but really nothing special.

Probably previously would've given the corner store about a 3.5 but the new renovations have really added to the experience of dining here. Inside looks really modern now and not outdated anymore at all. Seems to be a new menu since we last came here as well, I was pretty impressed with the food this time around in comparison to last time a few months ago. <br/>We had the nourish bowl with calamari and the parma. The calamari was really tender and the salad was great just a little bit bland, it needs some sort of dressing or something extra to add some flavour.  Staff are great, very quick and welcoming and food comes out really quickly too.<br/>Overall a pretty good experience with nice food and a warm atmosphere

My rating is mostly due to the crackling benedict. The crackling was smoky to the point that you could smell its essence. All the other features of the dish was executed well too. The use of the Turkish bread was nice as well, date I say probably better than sourdough. <br/><br/>I'd come back again, they also have burgers sooo...

Amazing food and very friendly service. Great renovation of a previously average store. I had the breakfast bruschetta and my girlfriend had the granola. Both were very delicious and had incredible presentation.

After seeing the corner store had had a re vamp, I thought I would go check it out, well we went to the corner store on a Monday night for dinner. We sat outside and had to attempt to get the attention of the staff just to order as no one came out even though they saw us sitting there. I ordered a chicken parma, when it came to the table it looked awful and tasted worse. The Parma was so over cooked and cold which I don't understand, how you can over cook it and it's cold. The chips were horrible and overcooked couldn't even eat them. How do you screw up a basic pub staple is my question? I've had many parmas in the past and this is by far the worst I've ever had. Very disappointed.

Always know that the food will be good at the Corner Store. Every meal that I have had there has been enjoyable. I have had their milkshakes, burgers, breakfasts and much more. The downside is it is a bit expensive.

Went here for dinner with a large group of friends and was not disappointed! The food was delicious, the atmosphere is great and the staff are so lovely.

Dropped in for lunch today; liked the fact that it has a large seating area especially since I was alone waiting to pick my son from an activity. So I found a nice little corner and spend quite some time so a great option for those stuck for a couple of hours to kill. The food is average, pretty much regular cafe menu with a few twists along the way. I had the Moroccan beef ribs which was done really well; the meat was tender and fall off the bone and I really liked the flavour too. But found the pumpkin a bit overpowering making the dish a bit sweet for my liking. Good selection of drinks too. Would go back if I am in the area again.

There was a massive hair in my mums food which kind of sucked cuz it was the first time she's been anywhere really. It happens but the staff just took it away as if it were our fault. We had to wait for it to be prepared again and I would have thought they would have added a discount for the inconvenience but they did or said nothing, the food is great though as well as the service and atmosphere but stuff like hair in food can happen anywhere really but they didn't handle it well.

Watermelon in tacos!? Aoli was like watery mayonnaise. Ravioli tasted like dough. Pretty good food at reasonable prices, I like to come here sometimes after work for a snack and a drink. I like the sliders especially just as something small to share.

The black brioche bun was really crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Fried chicken cutlet wasn't too bad and I really liked the tangy wasabi aioli. However, the price of my burger was slightly steep (21$). Could probably get more value elsewhere.

This is our local shop and we've given it many many chances. It never really impressed but today my wife went out with our son. He ordered a milkshake and got milk with ice cubes and some vanilla essence. I mean on a hot summer day, you guys run our of ice cream?? A customer comes and orders a milkshake, the shop is 2 mins away. Go and get some for crying out loud. Very disappointing. In fairness the waitress did come back after the order and informed them that there was no ice cream but it was still disappointing and a but unfair to be charged $5 for it.

Chips weren't cooked enough. Could go another couple of minutes In the deep fryer. Burger was pretty good though, but definitely need to fix up the chips situation

Been here a couple of times and the food was ok. Haven't been for a year and heard there were new owners so we thought we'd give it another go. We went for breakfast last Sunday. It was packed but they got us a table quickly. Then they disappeared. After 10 mins we flagged someone down for coffees. After 20 mins we flagged someone down to chase coffees and order. 40 mins after we arrived our eggs came out. Mine was fine but hubby's had wrong sides. He told them and they questioned him. Then they got the order form to check even though hubby insisted she read it back to him at the time. All the while they held on to incorrect breakfast. Brought it out again with one wrong side and one right. We told them again. Took it away again. By the time it was fixed food was cold and I'd finished mine. No one apologized. Went to pay and asked if they knew about what happened. They didn't but the reply to us was "oh yeah sometimes the kitchen can get it wrong. These things happen". Yeah well these things DONT happen if you run a good kitchen. And if these things happen then you apologize and make things right without questioning f the customer is wrong. We won't be back. Not because of the mistake but because of the way it was handled.

This is favourite place to head to with our kids - they think the burger is fantastic! Staff are always friendly and efficient. Menu has lots of choice. The food is good but not amazing. Great place for larger groups and for a night out.

The Corner store has great promise but fails to deliver on anything. There's nothing that stands out about this place other than the tartan carpet. The food, coffee and service are all below average.

Always been good coffee but the meals have gone down in quality. Ordered 3 big boy breakies and for$20ea I would expect 2 slices of toast and 2 pieces of tomato as well as some flavour. Kitchen has dropped the ball....

Underwhelmed. We ordered the Reuben sandwich and souvlaki. The reuben sandwich was lacking taste; more like a toastie, the souvlaki was particularly disappointing; consisting of cheap processed lamb on pita bread with tired looking tomato and lettuce. For roughly 15 dollars per meal, they did not meet my expectations. I live locally but won't be back.

Not a bad place for a meal.<br/>All of the meals were generous portions, came out fairly quickly and were an at average-ish price... Only thing that could be improved upon would be flavour; nearly every meal was lacking in some degree of flavour.<br/><br/>Ambience was good and the general vibe of the place was welcoming.<br/>Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating.<br/><br/>Would I come back? Yeah, but maybe after trying a few other places in the area. At least I know I could depend on this place for an OK meal.

Really good coffee. Everything i've eaten from here was really good. They did take the marscapone pancakes off the menu and my boyfriends doesn't want to go there anymore because of this

Ordered avo on toast with eggs and bird seed. Avocado was so unripe that it had to be sliced not smashed and 'bird seed' was three sesame seeds and five poppy seeds. Partner ordered the special which was pork loin and roesti. I presume the potatoes that were cooked 4-6 days ago needed using and hence the 'special'. Also, couldn't be eaten. I mentioned avocado and was offered a coffee. Hmm. No I am good.

Having heard good things about this place I was excited to go and try it. I haven't been this disappointed in a cafe in a long time. The coffee was good, and that's where the positive aspects end. The service was rude, and had an attitude, the avocado breakfast had the tiniest amount of avocado I have seen served and the lemon given to squeeze on the food was off.

Love this place! One of my favourite places to eat and meet with friends for a few drinks. They atmosphere is great if you're looking for awesome place to hang out with friends. Can be a little bit noisy but that's to be expected. Have awesome food and drinks

Very attentive staff... nothing is a problem.... very tasty food... Breakfast menu is extensive and every option is catered for. ....It's just a shame they cannot make a HOT coffee.... even after being offered another ...because the first was lukewarm..... Second came still just warm... Note: Please turn the temp/Kelvin up on the coffee machine

Staff are incompetent. Waited over an hour before deciding to walk out. Food never came , people that came in 20 minutes after us were already half way through their meal . Will not be coming back.

The corner store which is obviously situated on a corner intersection has a nice vibe, with both ample indoor and outdoor seating, it's a very large venue. This place is a cafe, restaurant and bar all in one.<br/><br/>We stopped here for a brunch on a Sunday and it was still buzzing with people. <br/><br/>The biggest letdown was the service time, although the waitresses were super friendly, they took along time to serve us water or even give us menus. By the time we placed our order, we were pretty hungry, so then service is not fast by any means.<br/><br/>We ordered the lunch burger meal with chips and the calamari with Thai salad along with a chocolate milkshake and mars bar milkshake.<br/><br/>The burger was really filling and very nice. The meat was cooked well, was juicy and tender with a nice sauce and crispy bun and the chips weren't bad. The calamari was ok, nothing special however we were not fans of the papaya salad as it didn't really go well with the calamari.<br/><br/>The milkshakes were amazing, the mars bar milkshake was a lot more sweeter and thicker then the chocolate milkshake but they were both very good.<br/><br/>

Cool vibes and yummy parmas! <br/>Although sometimes our orders tend to get mucked up quite a bit especially with food allergies which can be annoying, but other than that it's great place for a coffee and something simple.

This was actually a monster of a burger, sometimes you see 250g patties on the menu and when you get the burger the patties are half the size, but when this arrived at the table and there were 2 and it was legitimately 500g. I was a bit worries that I wouldn't finish it....then I said to myself that if I couldn't complete this burger I should hang up the boots and stop burger blogging, so I manned up and took this beast on with 2 thick shakes to wash it down!<br/><br/>Besides looking amazing, this burger didn't really have anything that I would consider outstanding, better than a lot of others I have had yes, but not worth the $28 I paid for it. Even at its original price of $23 and although that price does include fries, I do not think I would be rushing back for any time soon for this beef burger from The Corner Store in Mentone.

Came to the corner store earlier today with my husband and 2 children. I can honestly say i will Never return due to one staff member. Walked through the front door and was greeted by a tall blonde lady who was taking water outside. She was very welcoming, friendly and looked like she actually enjoyed her job. After the lady asked us if we would like to sit in or outside another staff member with red hair, a limp and quite possibly homeless turned around mid conversation with the blonde waitress and yelled at her in the most disgusting tone " GO DO YOUR OWN SECTION". I was absolutely schocked that one staff member could talk like that to another and especially infront of paying customers. The poor blonde waitress looked so embarasses and after about 10min she walked back inside and apologized for the behavior of her colleague. Throughout our meal the blonde lady would hardly come back inside and the red head stood at the coffee section chatting away to other staff members. The food was great but one staff member has put myself and my family off this place for life.<br/>I dont ushally review and rate restaurants but i had to share my experience.

This place improves every time I go there. The staff are friendly and the food is vibrant. The breakfast menu is spot on. I had a chicken burger yesterday and it was delicious. My partner rated his burnt chicken Parma a 2.5/5 as he said it didn't have much taste. The service is good here and I'll be back! It is also important to note that the coffee is good.

Consistent quality of food, polite staff and quick service.<br/><br/>Coffee is always up to standard, and their run of 2 Brothers beers on tap make for great drinking. The Kung Foo rice lager is a personal favourite, especially with my gluten intolerant partner.<br/><br/>Hands-down the best place to eat in Mentone.

Pathetic.<br/><br/>Service horrendous. Sat down 15 minutes later no one had asked even what I would like to drink, we got up and left. On the way out " oh you're leaving " with a shocked look.<br/><br/>Second time thought I'd give it a red hot crack. Meal was okay, eggs were watery, bread soggy, ordered a drink mid way through... Didn't come out... Went to pay, manager says " oh I forgot your drink didn't I" - yeah you did.<br/><br/>Will never make the mistake again to go back. One of the worst.

Love this place.  Mains took a long time to come due to a mix up, however, staff member was extremely apologetic and provided dessert on the house.  Brilliant customer service.  If you go there, make sure you get the Chocolate Fondant, best dessert I've ever eaten!

Friendly service but most of all awesome tasting food with unique side dips that came with your main. The meal sizes were a little small. The steak fries were smashing good but the kilplers potato were average. Overall good experience and will return.

A great local venue to get tasty food and great drinks. Staff are always helpful and attentive. Favourite drink is the 'Jam Jar' Cocktail - beautiful on a summers day, or any day! Love their arancini balls, dips and pasta dishes!

Very very pleased with dinner tonight. We had the chicken burger and the steak ribs. The beef fell straight of the bone just the way it should and the onion rings were a great added bonus. The chicken burger was also very good and very filling! Only down side was the last part of the chicken was not cooked the whole way through but it was avoided and no problems were caused. They were also very helpful with my dietary requirements. <br/>We also ordered two of their famous milkshakes. The strawberry and a mar bar. The Mars bar milkshake is definitely one to try however they are also very filling! <br/>Food 9/10<br/>Staff 9/10<br/>Atmosphere 8/10 (just as the tables feel very squashed in together)

We love this place (and their outlet in Mordialloc). We've been coming back for years. Sadly, there was a very unfortunate event this morning in the middle of our breakfast when my partner almost swallowed a hardened piece of plastic from what seems to be a vacuum sealed bag. It was mixed in with the pork/cornbread. The girl who attended to us immediately apologised, took it away and asked what we wanted so they can replace it, on the house. My partner lost his appetite at this point, so he asked for a latte instead. At the end of our meal, (except for the additional latte), we were still asked pay for my partner's order. Wish they handled this a bit differently, but would still probably go back!

The system here is flawed!! there is food constantly at the kitchen getting cold waiting to be served! It's Friday and the restaurant is busy. But not full house. Most tables seem to have no food on. Staff are busy but not efficient! Drinks that I never ordered landed on my table twice. only the waitress serving my area can take my order. I understand why n the purpose but think it only works if there is sufficient staff. <br/><br/>No one seemed to notice that besides my table there were 2 other tables wanting service. <br/><br/>Foodwise... nothing special.. no real selling point or niche .. besides a gd locale. ordered Baramundi, Pork Slider and Lamb Kofti with a glass of wine and tap beer.... $72???? <br/><br/>WIR? nope. it has nothing enticing. IMHO

I love this place and rate it 5...except I've found a consistent issue of late. There is a new manager that has started by the name of Dan, and I'm not impressed with the service he provides... Nearly every time I've had dinner or drinks of an evening he is constantly reminding us that he wants to go home and wants us to leave... This is even after the bill has been paid. I'll tolerate him becuase I love the place, but he needs to cool his jets on rushing CUSTOMERS out of the restaurant...

There is always a great vibe at The Corner Store and with their new Winter menu ready to go we settle in for some great food and a good night. Hmm yummy pork crackling with apple sauce, so very naughty, soooo very crunchy and soooo very nice!! Perfect partner to a cold beer. Crispy, crunchy lovely cheesey croquettes, perfect dipping sauce – enough said!

Attention all white ass niggas, this is the place for you. If you are wrapped up in white people problems, and your main focus is to tell your friend Becky about your weekend and how much of a rebel you are, then this place goes hand in hand with that. Food is over priced, but thats okay, you have the money for unnecessary crap, and what better way to chug down a cup of coffee that perfecfly represents this place; looks interesting and fancy, but by the end of it you're just like "ehhh"

Disappointed with The Corner Store on our last visit, we go approximately once per month, 2 adults and 2 young kids, and the recent time they had changed their menu; they use to have fantastic pancakes and this is the reason we went, however they are gone off the menu now. Replaced by chocolate chip pikelets with chocolate sauce and sprinkles for the kids (What???). Speed of service use to be great as well, however it took 45 minutes from ordering breakfast to eating without any word from the staff as to delays etc. Even when asked they just said it's next. Won't be going back in a hurry with so many great options nearby.

Went here while in Melbourne last year and thought it was such a hip little local spot for those nearby. The food is good honest pub food and the restaurant itself is very social and cosy. The friend who took us to The Corner Store meets here with friends on a regular basis and said the food is easy and consistently good. My dish when dining here was the pork belly on Asian rice with beans. I was a little gutter I was unable to finished all the meat as it was juicy and tender. It went nicely with the rice and beans. Would return again when in Melbourne

four of us went to dinner last night at the corner store mentone we had entre mains and desert well WOW the entre were all so good my brother said should we order more of them. then we had mains again they were all above average in fact they were master chef quality we were all very happy .desert we thought no way could it be as good as the first 2 dishers but the waiter said why don't u share. we had a chocolate fondo that was out of this world we will be going back to try all of there menu GREAT  NIGHT OUT staff were all fantasic to we left a tip gladly.

Food is consistently good and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and attentive. Had the beef ribs tonight......... Absolutely beautiful. Nice to have some live music. Easy and free parking across the road. Great place to eat!

When corner store opened there quality of staff were so good, but lately I have had to arrive at corner store on a Friday morning with all the staff on there phones. Not acknowledging us. We waited till she finished her convo on the phone to then be said you guys sit where ever you like. We sat, with no staff coming up to us for about 15mins, I had to get up and Ask for water and menus. It wasn't even busy? And then after our meals we had one good decent gentleman ask how our meals were! He was a gentleman! If only we got him at the start!

Decent little restaurant. Usually the food is alright but the other night we were served chips that were barely cooked. The gnocchi serving size was also very small in light of the price we paid for it. All in all, food is okay, but the price is too high for the quality and quantity of the food served.

Seated straight away with drink orders taken instantly.<br/>Drinks came out quickly <br/>Great menu with good debate about where to find the best burger in Melbourne<br/>Group was suggested to try appetizers off the menu - good spread and plenty to go around for all of the group.<br/>Orders for main meal were taken promptly by now got to know the main man Jimmy there. I am a big fan of people interacting with his customers and getting to know them thats how you get in regulars and keep them.<br/>Beer prices while waiting for mains were great - Love a Friday happy hour<br/>Main meals were amazing especially the pulled pork fajitas <br/>Bought out the cake for the bday girl as soon as we asked.<br/>Bill came out as soon as we asked for it no mucking around with this place. They keep it moving while making sure everyone is having a great time.<br/>Only criticism is sometimes a bit slow behind the bar... a few young people rather have a chat than serve the customers quickly. Came for a birthday brunch with a large group. If you have a large table, they won't let you order from the normal menu; they provide a special short set menu for you with only a few options. This is annoying, because it seems extremely unnecessary - I've been to plenty of other restaurants with large groups and this is never normally a problem. This just meant the menu was so limited that there was nothing on there anyone of us felt like, which is a huge shame as their normal menu looks great and has heaps of great options (it was mostly lunch options and we all wanted breakfast food). I ended up having the parma - it was okay, but I've had better. The coffee was good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The decor and atmosphere is really nice. The experience was just really tainted by the annoying small menu for the big group, so I didn't really enjoy it and probably won't go back.

My rare day off. On my day off today I decided to treat my parents to a breakfast/lunch at the corner store and everything from the coffee to the chilled vibrant atmosphere was terrific the food was impeccable and the service was great. I had a great experience. Highly recommend

So disappointing! I give this place so many chances. Order a beer.. Wait twenty minutes. Ask the waiter to come back in a few minutes while we look at the menu.. As we had just taken our seats! Comes back another twenty minutes later. Dinner dishes sit there for a good half an hour before anyone takes them away, no offer of a dessert menu. Waitress didn't know the difference between a cider and a beer. I don't know what's happened to this place, but it's sadly going down hill. Thankfully Mentone has other places to offer, where staff actually acknowledge your existence.

Didn't like it. I've come here a few times and the food has always been quite average for the price. Not a lot of variety and I end up ordering the same thing each time. Staff are usually nice but are quite slow at delivery. Also, came in to drop a while back to resume off, and I got told by what I assume is one of the managers, "If you're actually serious about getting a job here, don't come in during peak hours. Come back later." Quite possibly the rudest thing I've ever heard, and will not be coming back.

Regular visitor. Absolutely love the corner store. I almost always order the nachos and am never disappointed and the chocolate fondant is to die for (especially the strawberry ganache, yum!) The staff are always so friendly and ask how you've enjoyed your meal and if you need anything else. Such a great vibe in there too, just a lovely place for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Never again. Came here recently after hearing a few positive reviews but left feeling ripped off and unsatisfied. I sat inside which had a drastically different vibe to the funky masculine exterior. The carpet looks like something out of a nursing home, the tables and chairs are..pedestrian for lack of a better word and and the fake flowers on each table don't do much to alleviate that feel. The menu is generic and has no hero dishes. Think Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, Muesli, Toast, etc. I tried the steak sandwich with a side of fries. The steak was riddled with thick fat/gristle making the sandwich impossible to eat with you hands as I was constantly pulling the fat out of my mouth. The fries weren't particularly hot and for $20 I felt ripped off. The waitstaff were not attentive and were too busy talking to each other and friends to pay any real attention to the customers or collecting food off the pass. At one stage the chef rang three times for a dish to be taken out. However, I wouldn't say much for the kitchen as I observed the large metal hollandaise bowl being put directly on the floor, presuming the sink next to the door/dishwasher was full. He then continued to add to this pile. Firstly, in a door way and dishes being put on the floor. Hardly good professional practice. I would not return. Avoid.

What happened?!. This place used to be awesome, what on earth has happened? Milky luke warm coffee, stingy food, oblivious staff and rude management. Such a disaapointment. Hard to believe this place is run by the same owners and parkers cafe and main street. I've been going to Parkers recently- a lot better in every way- food, staff and atmosphere. What a shame this place has become. Not worth the $$!

My son and had breakfast this morn. Food was good, staff excellent . Great atmosphere

Slow service, noisy. Had an omelette, it was full of onions and cheese. Not great.the only chips you could have were covered in paprika salt. Not my taste.

We had a really happy night here with grandparents and toddler. Service was great.

The staffs there are really friendly and efficient. We were in a rush this morning and told them we didn't have heaps of time to laze around and with that in mind, they addressed all we needed. We ordered as soon as the menu came, food was delivered not too long after and when asking about the delay in our cappuccinos, they went out of their way to get that just a second later. A+ Service for that.

To put it quite simply, the music was ridiculously loud. At a table of six, communicating to the other end of the table involved shouting and leaning into the middle of the table. And this was, as I pointed out before, in a restaurant, not a pub, wine bar or nightclub.

Nope.. I used to love this place. I want to love this place.<br/>But.<br/>Last time I came, I ordered a long black. I got a watery, burnt thing without any crema, which the waitress spilled all over the sides of the cup. It was sitting in a pool of coffee by the time it was delivered to the table. That aside, decided to give it another shot this morning. Came in for breakfast, ordered a latte and the zucchini fritters. Coffee was fine, a bit bitter but drinkable. <br/>There were 3 other tables in (so, not busy) and I proceeded to watch the staff chat to each other whilst draping themselves leisurely across the counter, whilst the chef rang the order bell 3 times over a 10 minute period to alert them my food was ready. When I got it it was lukewarm and fritters rubbery and soggy. Didn't send it back as nuking them would have only made them more soggy.<br/>Can't bring myself to come back to pay $20 for a breakfast that was not enjoyable. So many other good cafes in the area.

Stingy. Overpriced. Average breakfast at best. Should have heeded the poor reviews.

Nah. It's really not good. Spend your money at a place that deserves it.

2nd time unlucky.. This is the second time we've come here, first time we waited 50 minutes for breakfast but gave the benefit of the doubt as they were busy and understaffed.<br/><br/>This time we waited for two hours.<br/><br/>Normally we would have left but the pleasant staff assured us the kitchen was running behind and the food was on it's way.<br/><br/>Two hours later and the staff apologise, inform us our order is lost and ask us to give it again.<br/><br/>The cups and cutlery were dirty, featuring a past guests lipstick.<br/><br/>I couldn't even blame the staffing situation as 6 waitresses should be able to handle that many tables.<br/><br/>Will not be going back. Never again.

The worse place in Mentone ever!. 49 min to get my order in a quite quiet time. <br/>They missed my order. <br/>Extreme desorganised!<br/>Natural orange juice with half glass of ice....plus 49 min waiting on top...it got water orange juice.......<br/>Moreover.....the food wasn't good even I was starving.....

Great food & atmosphere but will admit menu a bit limited.

2014 Christmas Menu. We would like to extend a huge THANKS for such a great experience on Friday night.<br/>The Christmas menu was delicious and cooked perfectly. We all commented on how great the meals were.<br/>Please pass on our gratitude to all staff involved. The waitresses we had were fabulous! Looking forward to more visits in the future.

Thought I would give this place a second chance after the terrible first visit, but nothing has changed! <br/>The coffee tasted like Nescafé! The food was dry and bland. <br/>This might be the coolest cafe in Mentone to be seen at but that's all it has going for it. Close the kitchen and keep the bar open. <br/>Don't bother making an effort to try this place.

Rude, poor service. I didn't enjoy my meal, when waiter/ Manager collected my plate, he asked me if I had finished playing with me food, say no more,

AWESOME. Never fails to deliver. Great staff, great menu with lots of variety and lets not forget the cocktails!

"Money Greedy Manager " ~ BEWARE !. One minute we were enjoying a " Girl's" catch-up and chatting after our meal, next we were being moved away from our table and made to sit in a row at the bar ~ very awkward to talk to each other the same ~ How RUDE !! It's not like we had been there very long , we had just finished eating .<br/>But the Manager decided he wanted to make more money by shoving us aside for more diners to sit down. Never have we been treated in this way and if he thinks that just because we looked young and he could treat us in this manner then he is a very ignorant individual. <br/>We won't be back and we most certainly will be telling all our friends and family about our experience . Thanks mate for ruining our night ! :-(

This place used to be really good but the customer service is getting really bad. Have to wait way too long to get served, last time I went I asked for a menu so I could see the drinks and the waitress decided listing all the different drinks would be a better idea.. When I asked for a menu she looked offended as if I had insulted her for asking for a menu. Not to mention the food I was served was half hot and half cold. Place needs a retune.

Kid Friendly - Staff went the extra mile - Food could be better. Hi everyone, I recently had my birthday there and did a last minute booking. Was happy to get a large space and table for my family. The staff were great and even brought out cutlery for the birthday cake and didn't get too upset when a little one broke a glass. Everything was great they even let us split our bill, but if I have to say something that could improve it would have to be the food. The plate had all the right elements on them - I ordered the veggie patch , but flavour lacked. White flavourless bread and spinach coated in a butter or oil just felt icky in my mouth.

Poor effort. its getting worse every time. its time i found a new hangout. Until today I was a regular at the Corner Store. Every time I would go there, I would always give it one more chance. The food is getting worse. They burn food, service is poor (not all), tables were dirty. enough is enough. no more.<br/>Today I had to return food. We paid and left. Its the last time I will be there. <br/>I am not sure what has happened. I have been going there for about two years very regularly. but its really crap now. sorry guys. let me know when it gets better.
