Review Jimmys Fishbar - Mentone

We had a great meal. I tried both the beef and fish burgers and both were very tasty and had lots of flavor. There are both eat in and takeaway options with comfortable seating provided. Limited outside seating and plenty of indoor seating. Wheelchair friendly entrance and indoor seating. Liquor license on site with a bar and tap beer options. Modern clean setting and plenty of windows to watch the world go by. Friendly staff that are happy to have a chat. I would recommend his place for family meals, quick takeaway or date night.

Came here on a Groupon. We Had the beer bettered barramundi grilled salmon both were great .. my only gripe is that if I was to pay full price for the size of barra like that I would actually return it!! Quality is great but mate!!! Come on!!! $7.50 for 2 x middle and index fingers?!?!? The chips they have used something like soda on it?? It’s hard. Not a fan! Great spot for a relaxing drink though!

Awesome staff, super Friendly. When we went there they were clearing our table and didn't realise that we weren't done so they made new piece of fish without us asking for it and they didn't charge us for that. Definitely going back there !

Food is alright, they need to improve the value though. The fish was greasy. The price you pay for chips is expensive. It is not like a traditional fish and chip store, so ensure you always opt for the larger for everything because the servings are not generous. Food is fine, if we wanted fish and chips we would go here because it is the closest to us but I haven't rushed back to it, have instead made my own at home lately. The staff are nice and I would like to see the business do well but they need to lower the prices to be more in line with other fish and chip shops.

Went down to Jimmy's tonight, my salmon was perfect. I went in 5 months ago and I can honestly say Prices are incredibly lower than last time and the quality of everything was incredible. Definitely going to stick with Jimmy's from now. My hubby loved his beef burger !! Well done guys, keep it up.

Be sure to visit this clean and pleasant restaurant. One of the few fish and chip shops you can actually eat in, in style! Couple that with sensational customer service from Brian and Michael and the freshest tasting fish and chips in Melbourne and you've got yourself the perfect night out. A great place to visit before the movies at Southland or takeaway and go to the beach which are both just a few minutes drive away.

The menu selection is very small. I would normally find this ok if those things were done really well, however they weren't. Our burgers were marketed has having a brioche bun, but they were served on white sesame buns (which fell apart when you bite into it). The chips were nice, however I would have preferred a salad if there was a half decent salad selection. The Angus burger dripped liquid EVERYWHERE, indicating that it had been frozen, and was tough/overcooked. The fish burger was ok. Not amazing, but pretty good. The South Melbourne Dim Sim I ordered was still frozen in the middle though. That was pretty off putting. The things I liked were the chips, the service, and the look /atmosphere of the place. However, on a cold Melbourne day perhaps leaving all the doors open wasn't the best choice. I would probably not go back again.

Great traditional fish and chips with the added bonus of thinner crispier chips than the standard type. Also available are more gourmet seafood options. A stylish shop to eat in as well as take away and uber eats. Has become our local F&C joint.

Had the battered fish, chips, and some calamari rings. Wonderful! And served quite quickly. Perfect, crisp chips. The battered fish was one of the best I've had in a long time :)

Soggy bear battered fish, not good, Chips were nice and crunchy, I had to ask for soy sauce and tartare sauce to go with our dim sim and fish. I can see why the shop is deserted when I go past. There's not much choice on the menu.

popped into Jimmys for Dinner tonight and wow. Fish was awesome. Not just fish n chips this place has the real deal. Whole fish. Real salads. Wow

I am not surer how anyone can rate this highly, the serves are small and is expensive, try elsewhere, far better value.

We've eaten there a number of times and the food every time has been outstanding. Fresh, beautifully cooked and tasty, Jimmy's has become our new local!!!

We have been waiting a long time for fish and chips in Mentone but to be honest were disappointed with our recent takeaway order. Our fried fish was so oily it was basically inedible and the serving size of chips was the smallest I've ever received from a fish and chip store - and yet the price much more expensive than most. Happy to pay more if you get quality but these guys seem to be targeting a more premium market and maybe takeaway isn't their focus.

I order for a grill fish and ended up with fried fish. You can taste the fresh batter on the fried fish. My first experience with them was excellent hence my second visit, after this experience now I feel like never again.

Very disappointed in this, had high hopes at those prices. Flake was not fresh... mushy and devoid of flavour. Even saw frozen pre-battered fish when paying at the counter as staff kept us waiting for the bill. Premium pricing for low ball product. Won't go back, Jimmy is taking the piss! Sorry for cheating on my regular (Sea View).

We had lunch here a couple of weeks ago and it was superb. Had takeaway tonight and the fried flake was inedible, tough and chewy, disappointing as not cheap.

Hard to believe that in 2019 they can't cater for gluten free.  if you're sensitive to gluten don't bother.  they offer 'gluten friendly' which means food is LIGHTLY DUSTED with flour.  Hilarious.  i don't know how that is friendly for those of us who can't have gluten..

The fish batter was crispy but that was all that was good about it... <br/><br/>We ordered 4 bits of flake which where all literally dripping with oil.<br/><br/>The chips for 4 adults was a tiny amount and soggy <br/><br/>The 2 dimsims weren’t too bad<br/><br/>The 6 potato cakes weren’t even given to us... the person before us had complained about the small size of them so maybe they where that small we couldn’t see them? <br/><br/>It was a very busy night for them being New Year’s Eve however they had told us it would be 15 minute wait and we waited for half an hour :-/

I had a Groupon and the deal was for chips and a burger. I chose the fish burger and thought it was very bland. I didn't mind it though, as I felt like having something light on that day. Chips were very normal and nondescript.

I think its a stock standard fish and chip place but with a nicer atmosphere due to having a dining area. Food is the usual fare. Would come back if craving fish and chips (which is about once or twice a year)

I’ve been meaning to come here since it opened up. The thing is, I never see more than 2 tables being occupied. I don’t know why?<br/><br/>Anyway, dropped in today to try it out. The fish was well cooked, a little small though, chips were nice and crunchy and I did enjoy the grain salad.<br/><br/>I just find the environment really, well, flat. 1 guy behind the desk, 1 other customer and myself with the horse racing on the tv. <br/><br/>Besides the atmosphere, the rest was decent. I just hope this place picks up on the vibes when summer approaches.

I came here with groupon deal. The chef was so friendly. Food was good.  Portion of dishes are decent. The décor of the fish bar was nice too. will go back next time.

We came here on a Cudo deal. I’ve long lamented that Mentone, a Bayside suburb, didn’t have a fish & chip place. Now we have one that serves beautifully crisp battered fish and chips. The sides we had, calamari and salads were good too. Service was quick and friendly.

Great food, great salmon steak. Great service. Good location. Really love the ambience, the large neon lights sign reading Jimmy's Fishbar in the shape of a fish was an especially nice touch. Fantastic ceiling speakers pumping out upbeat groove made the experience all the more enjoyable. Highly recommend to anyone looking for trendy fish and chips. Turned the worst Melbourne winter's day into one is the best.
