Food is great service is fabulous. Your service just take our experience to the next level. Big shout to the guy in black shirt. Extra accommodating, made everything come up quicker. (I got a 3yo son who gets hungry very quickly. ) He offered my 3 yo son with free bowel of miso soup and a extra bowel of rice. Thank you for being so kind.
First went here for my birthday which was during iso so we got takeaway and it was all delicious. Everything was fresh with lots of flavour and sauces on the side when complimented the dishes perfectly. Soft shell crab was definitely a stand out! Can’t wait to actually go back and dine in the restaurant which looked very cosy and nice.
This is no doubt the most amazing Japanese restaurant I have ever experienced. This place is truely a hidden gem - on road side it just looks like barn doors and you wouldn't even no it existed, food I have ever eaten. Open the doors and its like walking into another room. The best Japanese food and amazing drinks! I will be back on my next visit to the Gold Coast!
My favourite place during this visit at Gold Coast, fantastic place, little hidden, the food were amazing, very interesting menu, the looks and the taste were very on point, also have great collection of sake and Japanese whiskey, knowledgeable staff and great service.

AMAZING food and atmosphere for a night out. The staff were super friendly and food were served rather fast. Recommend ordering the wagyu which is served on a hot stone, the skewers and salmon/avocado sushi roll.
After hearing only good things, it was about time we got to eat here. Excellent service and staff.

The salmon tartare and beef tataki were both close to, if not the best I've had.
Black cod was so good we ordered it twice.
Spicy edamame beams are a revelation, never seen them in a menu before.

Only thing not a fan of is crammed sharing tables, and strict times you need to eat and leave by.
What a fantastic find! The atmosphere is phenomenal - the resturant is secretly hidden behind two wooden doors with only a red lantern giving away its location. As soon as you walk in, the dimmer lights and cool artwork give the resturant a unique feel. The decor is also a very nice finish. Aside from the atmosphere, the food is also very delicious with fresh ingredients and complex flavours. We ordered the wild barramundi, scallops with dry miso, battered bugs with watermelon, pork wrapped asparagus skewers and soft shell crab. The highlights were the barramundi which the flavours were sensational and the soft shell crab. We will definitely return!
Amazing food, really great service my partner and myself really enjoy the food here only down side is that when seated in the middle table your sitting beside complete strangers if your a group of 2
What a place and night. Went with wifey and another couple. All had a great time. Cocktails were great, wines great and food even better. Our waitress was amazing and knew everything there was to know.
We omitted to order the “standard” Japanese foods and ventured out to more unique items.

So many people rave about Etsu and I see why. The place is subtly positioned behind a farmhouse-looking sliding door and when you open it and peer inside it you are immediately blown away by the atmosphere, decor and vibe which is such a contrast to the exterior.
Staff were very friendly and informative. We hadn’t made a reservation (which I suggest is done) but the host offered us another time and we came back. Waitresses were great at explaining the menu and food that came out.
The food was all wonderful. So meticulously designed and crafted which great flavour.
I really enjoyed the pork belly which was a surprise and not expected. The sashimi was very fresh and other dishes were very light. Nothing too heavy or overpowering.
Would definitely come here again.

Such an incredible venue but it’s hard to find - no sign number or name. But I liked the secretiveness. The food was very delicious and they have a good selection of wines, beers and cocktails. A great place to take a group of people (especially if they haven't been there before!
I don’t rave on about many restaurants but this place is amazing. Outstanding decor mixing traditional Japanese with modern art. Now the food was exceptional. We had the Waghu gyozas and delicious and fresh. The teriyaki salmon amazing and that sauce.. wow. The tempura prawn roll so delicious with fresh prawn. Finally we had the crispy chicken which was moist and crisp on the outside.
So baby more dishes to try and will be back. This place is a hidden gem.

I can see why this place is at times booked out days in advance! First visit to Etsu after being recommended by many friends to try and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our waitress, Brittany, was super helpful and attentive, and Mitch on the reservations desk was great for a laugh at the end of the night. Aside from the fantastic staff, the food was top notch. We tasted the fish of the day, nasuden eggplant, tempura prawns and an assortment of other fantastic dishes. But the favourite for us was the Tempura Morton Bay Bugs - WOWW!! A must order dish packed full of flavours! Plenty of options on the menu to choose from and we can't wait to visit again!
A quirky, vibrant venue sets the perfect scene for a shared, tapas-style meal. The food was exquisite with the aburi salmon being a must-have! Topped off nicely by a reasonable bill, definitely recommend!
So hip it’s impossible to find- no street number on the building and no name either. Only found this place because I went with someone who had been here before! Had booked a table for two on this app. Seated towards the back of the venue close to the kitchen. We started with water and edamame while we chose dishes from the menu. We shared tempura vegetables, agadashi tofu and miso eggplant to share. Mains were barramundi and teriyaki chicken. I drank a delightful sparkling wine from the Adelaide Hills. Reasonably priced and fabulous service made our night complete. The only negative was the loud music being played which was not to my taste. Was much better when they took a break and they played taped music- better volume. But as we went for the food and it was a highlight- will rate this venue 4.5
This place was amazing!! I’m so glad we finally got the chance to come here. Service was great and the food was as superb. I especially enjoyed the aburi salmon sushi maki and the dessert-thought it was perfect and really satisfied me. Definitely recommend others to try this place !
This place has fantastic atmosphere and the decor is lovely. Beautiful food, moreton bay bugs and soft shel crab were the standout dishes, very friendly staff.

It is so damn hard to find a great Japanese restaurant here in Australia. But this place was exceptionally great.
The interior was well designed. It's modern, stylish yet comfortable.
Food was just really good. They are Izakaya style which is like Japanese style tapas. Eventhough this place is advertised as Izakaya, I would call this place more like 'modern Japanese restaurant' because of quality of food they provide.
We ordered $55 per person Omakase(chef's recommendation set) which consisted of
edamame,
kingfish carpaccio,
kushiyaki (chicken and spring onion) (salmon),
prawn isobe age,
beef tenderloin,
assorted nigiri sushi (kingfish, tuna, salmon, and white fish) with miso soup.
I especially liked 🦐 prawn which was made like popcorn chicken but prawn version with aonori(seaweed) batter. Chicken kushiyaki was juicy and tender. Salmon skewer was not my fav as i felt sauce on salmon skewer killed the goodness of salmon itself.
Nigiri was also good, I had tuna and it was seriously the best tsuna nigiri I ever had in Australia.
Beef tebderloin was a little dry and was just an average dish. Customer service also could improve more. I know they were busy catering for full house but there were no teamwork between waiters(or abcense of good manager) and they seemed to just look after their own tables which meant one of the waiter ignoring us and the one who looked after my table was spending long time chatting with another table which meant longer waiting time for us.(sorry i know i am impatient).
Overall, all dish were beautifully presented, it almost felt like an food art. I truely admired beautifully crafted creations before eating them.

Wow! Amazing ! Taste bud tantalising an amazing dinner. We started with the Salmon usuzukuri and it was mouth watering. We then had Tuna Tatarki, another Salmon dish and Tuna Dish then had miso soup and then had salmon Skewers and finally the eggplant. We also had the tofu salad as well and our friends had a beef dish (medallions) and prawns which were deep fried. The meal topped with a bottle of Pinot and a scotch was a truely remarkable evening. Well done. This place is sensational and a slam dunk for the food community to understand brilliance. Please try and eat plenty. Thanks to Hungry Tum for the recommendation.
Hidden gem within mermaid beach, really cool atmosphere food was cool and service was not too bad. price could be a little less but overall pretty nice restaurant.
Went here on Monday night and had the best time! The food was amazing, the cocktail list was crazy good and the service was incredible. The atmosphere was really cool and I love how well utilised the space is. I really can't fault anything and I'll definitely be back. Thanks for look after us Etsu!
This is fantastic Japanese food complimented by great cocktails and brilliant service.
I had the gin garden #2 and it was sensational. Tonnes of good sashimi and sushi and some more substantial mains. Some if the dishes seemed 'Nobu inspired'.
My only criticism is that the deserts weren't very appealing. As far as gluten free dining goes, these guys are nailing it!
Loved the concept! We were a little confused at first cause the outside looked something close to a warehouse. So spot the Japanese lantern!
Service was friendly and upbeat! We had the 55pp omakase and it was good! All was good except the last dish: nigri sushi. They gave us ONE piece of salmon, beef, kingfish and scallop nigri to share between TWO. Disappointing, we had to cut it into half with our chopsticks and and rice was everywhere. Really took out the goodness of the whole experience. We then ordered an extra aburi salmon maki, the rice was pretty hard so that specific dish was disappointing.
This is the best dining experience I've had in my life. The service was incredible, we were very well looked after by our lovely waitress. The food was perfectly timed and unbelievably delicious. As a vegetarian I was expecting to miss out a little as the Japanese style cuisine is very fish orientated. However everything I ate just melted in my mouth. From the others at the table who had a full range of the menu there wasn't one dish that didn't leave us gob smacked. The cocktails were crafted to perfection and as a whole for that level of service and expertise in both drinks and food the pricing was incredibly reasonable. I would recommend this for dates and small intimate groups of friends. Unbeatable.
This beautiful dining atmosphere is located behind an inconspicuous sliding wooden door - try look out for the Japanese lantern hanging out the front. The dining concept is based on boozing on Japanese beer and sake with some share plates of food. After visiting Japan myself I was please to see plum wine in the menu which is served in a tumbler over ice. We ordered the mix sashimi and had beautiful raw salmon, tuna and swordfish served with wasabi. The silken tofu salad had a thin peanut sauce and sesame seeds topped on it. The lamb cutlets were slightly too peppery for my liking but was balanced out with a pickled root vegetable. The tempura soft shell crab was more so soft than crispy. Our final dish was the spicy karaage chicken which was in a bitey sticky sauce - delicious. The service was professional and on point. I'd definitely recommend this place to others :)
Etsu was heaving when we arrived - every table, seat at the bar and entry was full. Despite this we were seated pretty quickly and food arrived super (arguably too) fast. However, we weren't hurried to leave which makes for a nice change and had a great night. Goes without saying that the food is great and well worth a visit.

You'll be instantly impressed by this hidden Japanese gem! Firstly, there's no signage or anything out the front except a Japanese style lantern, that's confidence for you!
From the moment you walk in, it's got an incredibly modern and funky vibe. The dim lights and the various types of table seating (you can choose communal, bar or traditional tables depending on availability) create a fantastic mood for this venue.
Izayaka, meaning to share (tapas), is the type of dining and that's how I'd recommend to do it. The Wagyu Gyoza as an absolute standout - crispy outside to the dumpling and beautifully cooked inside. Make sure you try out the Tsukune which is a chicken meatball skewer that you can dip through an egg yolk sauce!
Service was incredible - we sat at the bar and our barman knew all the ins and outs of every dish and was extremely helpful throughout our stay. Can be pricey given the smaller plates aren't overly big, but well worth the wait - make sure you order at least 6 between 2!
Top notch food and venue. The pork belly and tempura prawns were fantastic!! Service was good, from the street the only thing to look for is a red lantern hanging by the door. The live band was somewhat unexpected and rather loud, however a must try restaurant

Great atmosphere! Whoever designed and decorated is an absolute legend. Etsu is a great place for a date! Service was great. The cocktails were great. Food was amazing. The soft shell crab sushi was to die for. Tempura prawns is a must. Wagyu gyoza YUM. Even the miso soup was 10/10. Will definitely return :)
Etsu has just gone to the top of our list for the best restaurant/bar on the coast. Love that it's a little "underground" without any sign, but then once you open the sliding barn door and then welcomed by this cool little place, you realize there is nothing like it. Staff were attentive and friendly, great vibe on the Sunday night we went with Jazz trio playing, a little on the loud side, but was ok. Food came out quickly and was delicious, ordered more as we ate and this came out quickly as well. Considering the place was full, was an excellent achievement.
Have recommended to all our friends and they all love it.

Smart and sophisticated from the moment I walked in. Sat at the bar with my friend and ate and drank for 3 hours. The food menu is not overly large but accommodates for all that you might desire. Great little plates of the robata grill (try the lamb and mushrooms) excellent gyoza, the wagyu was my favourite. Extensive back bar with a large range of beer, wine, cocktails and whiskey. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. A beautiful fit out to boot, definitely a must try if your visiting or living on the coast.
What an experience! Firstly, the vibe of this restaurant as you open those white barn doors is like entering an underground Japanese restaurant in Soho New York! The most incredible fit out equalled by the most amazing cuisine. The food was delectable, the service was outstanding... if you are on the Gold Coast this place is a must!

This place is a hidden gem on the highway. Cool interior and great buzzing atmosphere which hits you as soon as you pass the innocuous white doors. Perfect place to catch up with friends or throw back some sake and have a fun date. Have been a few times and the food has never disappointed. The spicy edamame has a good kick that makes your nose run. The cocktails are divine and the sake list is quite extensive. We regularly order the Tsukube with egg yolk and I cannot resist the chicken wings. The sashimi is really fresh and the sharing plate of steak is a winner. It's never a cheap night, but a great evening with friends is always worth it.

Do yourself a favour and order the black cod. How they managed to get that much flavour in there is beyond my comprehension. Also had the sashimi and that was delicious as well.

If you go to one place on the Gold Coast for a fancy night out, Etsu should be your default choice. The actual restaurant (inside) is cool/sexy and sophisticated and the service is warm, friendly and attentive.
Cocktail and wine list, very good. Beer selection is very minimal.
For food, we chose: beef tataki (perfect), eggplant (this was the surprise selection. probably the best eggplant dish i have ever had) , edamame, oyster mushrooms, sushi (various types of rolls), miss soup and a few other dishes that i can't remember (the rise of the lychee is to blame!).
If I had to choose my last meal, it would be the miso cod. This dish alone is worth the visit to Etsu. My favourite fish is cod, but this dish was perfection. So special is this dish, that it is presented in a boat like structure with leaves.
My only criticism is the long communal table and chairs with no backs. These two factors made the night slightly uncomfortable. But that really was trying to find something negative to say about Etsu.

Amazing place. It's looks like and abandoned shed from the outside and then when inside its a Japanese/hipster fusion. I did not try anything I didn't like but the salmon sushi was amazing and the soy cod was to die for.

Wow!! A great experience with wonderful food. We tried 6 of the dishes, tuna tataki, salmon usukuri, salmon tartare, wagyu gyoza, Etsu beef and nasu dengaku. Each dish was tasty, high quality and expertly cooked. Service was attentive and very friendly. One od the best Japanese meals in a long time.
If you are visiting Etsu for its wide range of drinks or hanging out with your partner, you will enjoy the time very much. I went here with a group of 8, wasn't the best. I have to admit, although food and drinks are nice, it is just too loud that we could hardly hear what each other was saying. Food and drinks I must say is over priced.

Amazeballs! This is probably my new favourite modern Japanese restaurant on the Gold Coast! It's hidden, dark and packed tight, neon red lights, lively and loud. Came here for a friend's birthday and I will definitely back soon!!! We all just ordered food to share. I didn't really pay too much attention to how fast the service was because I was busy enjoying my company and devouring our food as they came out one by one. Seriously the flavours were succulent! I loved the pork belly skewers ;) and the tempura prawns the best!!! Our waiter was very nice and was very understanding of two of my girlfriend's Gluten Free needs. You really have to come experience it for yourself. Definitely a top dining spot for me. If I could rate this place out of 10 I would give it a solid 10!

Best feed on the GC! Been in the Goldie for 4 yrs and that was hands down the best meal I've had here!! Felt like I was in Melbourne. Shop fit out was awesome, food was incredible, staff were nice and drinks were lovely.
This place is awesome! Bit on the expensive side but if you want to enjoy good food with a great fit out then this is the spot on the GC. Loved how it's a challenge just to find the front door. And the buzz inside was great too. Would rate well in Melbourne.
Divine bar, tucked away in an unassuming little spot. Sliding back the rustic doors you will quickly discover an authentically kitted out Japanese bar...the perfect blend of kitsch, rustic, and authentic.
But there is more than style to this bar, the substance comes with a well-stocked bar, sumptuous plates to share, and expertly attentive team.
Do yourself a favour and sample the eggplant, the haloumi is a surprise fusion, the tempura wonderfully fresh, and the stone cooked steak is an event in itself.
Amazing !!!. Four of us went to Etsu for the first time last night, and having read some reviews, we were a little wary. But very pleased to report that we had the most amazing night ! We couldn't find a fault ! The decor was funky and cool, the girls waiting our table were all friendly and we wanted for nothing the whole time we were there. And the food ?? We tried about 7 different dishes, and ended up ordering another serve of two of them they were so good ! We definitely plan on returning to try the rest of the menu ! Winner ! Great night !
