Review Hot Honey Cafe - Middle Park

Dave Weber
Great brunch food. Menu with a good variety of savoury and sweet dishes. The bread was much better than the usual place. Both dishes we ordered were delicious. The coffee was also great.

Nice cozy little place with really tasty food and great service. Coffee was a bit average though and would suggest changing music to something more neutral (i.e. classical).

Very local vibe and friendly staffs. (And it's very pet friendly~! Many dogs with owners at outdoor seats when I first came~) I had the Veggie Bowl which was very warm and well cooked~! (always love veggie brekkie however sometimes the dishes were too oily or spinach overcooked etc, which didn't happen here). Soy cap was great too~! Love to explore new cafes as I just relocate to Mel lately however this one is worth to to return~!

Really lovely staff and great coffee, the perfect combination. Great place for quick takeaway coffee or breakie. My recommendation is the chilli napoli egged Benedict! See photos

I love the view from this cafe's window looking out to the tree-lined street of Middle Park. Adding to this backdrop is the food that is so delightful to taste and the inside ambience that feels so warm.

On a sunny, rainy, or a windy day, this cafe is the best place in Middle Park to spend some time arroubd a cuppa. Very friendly service and great food. Cakes are amazing too.

A Middle Park favourite amongst the locals , warm friendly staff, delicious comfort food and a fabulous selection of cakes , slices and the best chai latte’s on Armstrong street ☕️👌🏻

Had the Chilli scrambled eggs with grilled haloumi, really good food!

Looked good, and was quite busy. The coffee was passable, although Half the coffee grounds made it into the cup.

The food... the least said the better really. The meat omelette was floating in grease and the only flavour was from the “Pizza Hut” quality bacon/chorizo in it.

The avocado and feta smash looked delightful, tasted of cheap fetta, and not much else. Even with a very generous pushing of salt and pepper, the avocado was indistinguishable from a tub of green playdoh.

Really disappointing as the venue itself was quite nice and cosy.
2.5 ⭐️

Mmmm I really wanted to like Hot Honey cos they have a great environmental initiative about food waste, but I don’t know, my experience was mediocre.

The staff wasn’t really friendly, but wasn’t really unfriendly either. I got bubs with me and it was almost as if they expected me to hold him and grab a high chair myself. I got seated first but the waiter served another person who got seated after me, and didn’t give us any water for the table (I saw that everyone got given water for the table... 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I had scrambled eggs with dukkah, haloumi and spinach. It was ok, I probably enjoyed the haloumi most!

The kids had ham and cheese croissant and eggs on toast. The croissant looked like something they buy from Woolies (ie none of those delicious flakey delicate buttery pastries that a good croissant should have. I know it’s only $6.5 but it’s $6.5 I had to shoved down my food snob kids throat because they refused to touch it is $6.5 wasted. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really wanted to get their cakes as a takeaway but by the time I got to the front of the queue to order the cake and pay for the breakfast, the waiter already handed me the bill. So no cake it is.

Very nice cafe with delicious food and drinks. An excellent owner very well run. Worth the drive or walk down. Staff friendly. Would highly recommend.

Great little cafe for a relaxed bite to eat. Their new menu has plenty of interesting breakfast dishes which are generous and delicious. If you can’t make it for brekky you must stop in and try their incredible home made cakes and fabulous coffee.

Most consistent coffee along Armstrong street.
None of the coffee shops along this strip will satisfy a full blown coffee connoisseur but this joint is the pick of the lot, I have only been dissapointed once out of >50 coffees so thats good enough for me.

Fabulous cafe in Middle Park very welcoming and friendly. Menu has a great selection and the meals were tasty and of generous serving sizes. The sweet potato rosti and smoked salmon stack is a real winner, the coffee is great.

Nice ambiance and friendly staff, and unfortunately the food and coffee was pretty average. Prices were quite reasonable. A bit more imagination is needed with the menu.

Great food, great service and amazing prices. I have been here 3 times and will continue to return. Good for a quick bite or to chill out and drink coffee.

Coffee is good at Hot Honey but I don't know how much I need to express that they are in SERIOUS NEED of a MENU CHANGE! Serious need. It's affecting the amount of customers they are receiving and their business all together. The food is old and at least been the same for at least 6 years, that's a long long time. IN DESPERATE NEED of small little dishes at the front of cafe, such as small egg and bacon muffins or sliders like every other cafe around town. You can only eat at the cafe when you are feeling like a big meal and even then you never know what you are going to get, even when you have ordered the same dish 7 times before. Some days you go there and order the same thing as the day before and it comes out completely different... sometimes the tomatoes are uncooked and placed sloppily sliced (2 slices may I add) on top of a tiny portion of eggs! Ridiculous and lacking flavour! The complete opposite of the day before! Please Hot Honey cafe, I'm sure I'm not the only person that greatly URGES this... FIX THIS PROBLEM ASAP. Thank you.

Love the food, the coffee and especially the service! The staff here are so lovely - they definitely set Hot Honey apart from the rest of the cafes in the area!

The coffee here is spot on.. and how I'd expect it would be made for a South American arms dealer. its priced fairly, its consistent and the staff are interested in doing their job. I can't comment on the food cause it's hard to stuff up a piece of toast.

Great coffee. Foods expensive for the quality. The menu is very predictable and hasnt changed in years. The cakes mostly the same daily - So much potential for awesomeness but not there. Decor - black walls in a small space. Needs complete change of menu except the coffee.

One of those places where the ambience tells you right away that your in the right place. I din't click a lot of pictures here but I had the 'perfect latte'. I had the lentil wrap for lunch, quantity was huge but it was delicious. The servers were friendly too. Will definately be back.

Come here all the time for food or just coffee. Great service, lovely food and great atmosphere. Xx

I used to think it was pretty good for the area. After today never again. Now the food is pretty good but the service today was shocking. As it was a cold day we were the only ones outside but as we were really hungry I went inside to order almost as soon as we got our menus. Well we waited in the cold over 20 mins for meals that shouldn't take too long like lasagne
before I went to check how it was going. Our meals came out like 1 minute later! I guess we had just been forgotten! Later I discovered we didn't get one of the salads - all I got after complaining was "that's alright" and five bucks. We are never going here again - arrogant attitude as they know a lot of the well off (often in large groups) will go there - as a couple outside we felt way down the pecking order!

I came here with a friend and we both enjoyed our breakfasts very much, the shakshuka was soooo yum. The wait staff were attentive and the coffees were great. It's in a lovely location in leafy and quaint Middle Park village. Will definitely come back again.

He said, “Why don’t you try it with a poached egg? When I eat it that’s the way I have it.” That decided us. So once again we ordered, ‘House made corn bread with grilled bacon, fresh avocado and tomato salsa and sour cream’ and then we added, “With a poached egg”. We smiled at each other “That’s different” we both said at once. Why be adventurous when you know what you want?

Yummmmm. Consistently great food, coffee & service. Must try the potato stack - yummmmm

Fantastic morning cafe place. Great location in Middle Park, quiet leafy surrounds, not far from beach. Very friendly staff and great coffee.
Must try their homemade PRIKTEN muffins

The best cafe in the village.. Great vibe, great coffee, friendly staff.

Could improve so easily. This could be so good without so many little disappointing things :
- Great big room with plenty of tables, yet often forgotten by the service staff, and always fighting for a newspaper;
- Very keen service staff, but sometimes also very inexperienced;
- Acceptable Middle Eastern eggs baked in napoli sauce with dukka and chickpeas, yet the thick cast dish was so hot it kept the lot burning hot for way too long; difficult to appreciate the food. Also Middle Eastern eggs but no Turkish bread, only ciabatta offered: not a very consistent dish.
- Far from the best coffee in the street.
Still a place worth considering.
Gastronome
Nice ambience. The food was tasty and the presentation was good. The omelette was a little light on and could have been more substantial. Fresh juice always gets a big tick in my book: orange, apple and ginger. The waiter however thinks he is serving patrons at Vue de Monde or some top class restaurant with his pompous attitude. The cakes looked divine and seemed reasonably priced. Would go back again.
Frilly
Very friendly and helpful staff. Our food arrived very quickly and they were delicious. Will definitely be back!

Better than other Armstrong street cafes but not outstanding. I hate varied menus depending on the day. I'd like that item for breakfast... Oh, that's only on the weekend. Come on, if there's a chef, get him to cook. It just isn't service.

Otherwise, the feel of this place is homely and warm with wood, nicely tucked away at the end of the shopping strip really helps but that isn't enough to get me to come back again. Unfortunately, many of the Middle Park cafes seem to do this half prepared buy from the window and we'll heat it up style, it takes some of the class away, even if they do it in secret it would be better.

Nice enough but I'll only stop by if I really feel like a coffee.

A MUST VISIT!!. What a wonderful Cafe!!

Great Coffee! Excellent and friendly Service and I agree with other reviewers, the Corn Bread is second to none.
Brickwork's Blonde
In one word, amazing. Corn bread is the stand out dish at this cafe (believe me I've eaten it more than a dozen times)! Crepes are also up there.
Coffee is always fabulous. Staff are super friendly and go the extra mile. Never have to wait long, nothing is ever forgotten. Newspapers always on hand to read, love a cafe that has multiple copies of the weekend papers! Beware to those whose biological clocks arent ticking, Hot Honey is very family friendly and at times, esp on a Sat morning, can be over run with very noisy, boisterous little munchkins.

I went to Hot Honey for a quick bite, had the BLT. Food was ok, service was poor, I wouldn't return.

Charming with great food and service. Despite living in Albert Park for a while I somehow had never discovered Hot Honey until last weekend. The cafe has a great location in Middle Park Village which, despite being close to the city, is reminiscent of a country town. Hot Honey itself seating outside under the trees as well as inside where a large fresco brightens up the walls. The staff are extremely friendly and competent (including one who had only started the day before) and the food is delicious. The berry smoothie already gets perfect points for taste but on the looks stakes alone this one is a winner with around 1.5cm of a berry and coulis combo at the bottom of the glass to brighten up the drink (and add boost to the taste). Eggs benedict on muffins are delicious. Amazing cakes and biscuits. Thmbs up to the lovely staff who were extremely helpful and attentive without being annoying.

We have just moved to the area and was looking for a nice cafe to have breakfast in. Hot honey looked popular with the locals and te food looked lovely. We went there on new years day for breakfast and had eggs benedict and coffees. Waitresses were friendly, the coffee was good and the food was tasty. I think it's a little gem and will definatly be returning.

Love the corn bread and love Hot Honey. It's the one place where you can get a piece of delicious homemade cake.

Have only been here once so I may give it another chance. But wasn't taken with the food.

This place is great! The corn bread is the best in the Southern hemisphere. I have been many, many times and never had bad service, as mentioned elsewhere. I would say it was the exception rather than the rule, so 'pop' in and find out fir yourself - and order the corn bread - yummos!
Fish
Amazing little spot. Great feel about it and a wood fire sets the scene to relax. Gets very busy and it's easy to see why. I stopped by for a chai latte and it was very good. Great froth and sweetened by honey made me want to return again!

Appalling service with attitude. After reading about this cafe in the cheap eats guide we wanted to check it out for somewhere new.
We arrived at our 11am brunch booking today and were seated after they cleared our table. Menus were given straight away.
Then after about 20 minutes we had to ask if it was table service as our coffee orders had yet to be taken and the waitresses were clearly in a huff while maintaining face. As a red headed waitress came to take our order her pen wasn't working - to which she then threw her pen into the kitchen and went to get another one.
The first 2 of 3 coffees arrived and upon asking were the 3rd was we were told it was given to the wrong table. No apology just the facts.
Then they came to the table with another tables breakfast. No apology, just "oh wrong table".
49 minutes after being seated the first 2 meals arrived.
The service here was total dire. I would be embarrassed for whoever owns this cafe. And I feel sorry for all the people who will visit it after reading about it in the cheap eats guide. So many nice cafes along that stretch and we had to pick this one.
How long till they shut their doors? All because of bad waitresses. If you're not happy, get a job you enjoy and don't take it out on the customers.

Good local cafe.. Visited this cafe on a Monday lunchtime and it was quite busy. There was the option of sitting outside in the winter air whilst being warmed by outdoor heaters or inside near the gas log fire. Hot Honey seemed to be quite popular with the locals - with good service, home cooked cakes/goodies and an array of breakfast options. Slightly disappointing to find that the lunch menu did not include any meals with red meat and too many chicken options! Nice coffee however and good service. If I was a local I can see myself hanging out here on a regular basis.

Hot honey. I love this place - I go there 1-2 times every week, its loved by everyone I've introduced it to, I'm sad to say that today was the worst service I think I have received anywhere - it's a shame that some wait staffs attitudes are undoing all of Emma's hard work!! namely waitress with red hair and tattoo on wrist. we waited over 15 minutes to be served outside today - only to receive attitude from the wait staff after having to go inside and ask to be served. Red head slammed down glasses and water bottle on table and was using a harsh tone and manner until I asked if Emma was on site. My request for Emma to come out was ignored, waiter stated "will she even know how you are" I would hope that Emma is open to receiving feedback - but my thoughts were that she did not get the message from her staff, further supports my claim of inappropriate service which is damaging Emma's business. I will think twice about heading to Hot Honey for fear of further neglectful or aggressive behavior. I will endeavor to contact Emma by phone to pass this feedback on.

We love going to Hot Honey every week. Fantastic food and coffee in a great location by the beach.

I came here for a Sunday brunch. It was busy but not packed. Service was very fast and friendly. Coffees came out in no time. All meals very reasonably priced (approx $15 avg). My Eggs Benedict wasn't anything to look at BUT it tasted amazing! Eggs and ham were so fresh. Will def he back to try the rest of the menu

Sometimes a place can be quite good and still be a bit of a disappointment. For us Hot Honey was one of those places. It was the afternoon before Christmas and my flight to Adelaide wasn't until around 6pm so a few of us decided to check out Hot Honey. According to their website Hot Honey gets its name, in part, from the honey produced by the owner's father (and interesting concept) and used in many of their products. Looking at the way their website appears to attract visitors from all over the world gave me a bit of a chuckle. I suspect many of the overseas visitors weren't looking for a small but attractive Middle Park café. First impressions were positive. While small it's quite a pretty café, with the option of eating inside or out the front along the main shopping strip. We were taking a while to make up our minds on what we wanted to order so Ms Counting her Calories and I took the opportunity to try the spiced chai latte. I liked the way this was given a more generous dose of
