Review Oakover Grounds - Middle Swan

Sasha Jones
Went for lunch and a drink on a Friday. Firstly the grounds are beautiful, nice grass area, playground and the water with the bikes. However sadly that's where it ended for us. We ordered Barramundi, Pork Belly, Prawns & Octopus with a side of chips. Barramundi was nice, small portion. Pork Belly was 80% in edible, it was tough and dry, very very disappointed and was not close to being finished. Prawns & Octopus were nice, nothing to rave about but nice enough. Chips were served cold and needed to request a fresh serve which was done. Wine and cider were both nice. All in all it was disappointing. I likely would not go again for a meal, maybe a drink and light snack as the whole table left very underwhelmed.

Place is beautiful and you can spend time around after lunch :) Food was good, not extraordinary, but good taste and good quantity. In my opinion I've missed a bit of customer service... Good to spend Saturday or Sunday with the family.

Just came for a coffee. Ordered at the counter after waiting for ages to be served. Drinks were good and the grounds were lovely. Only 2 paddle boats available and the people using them were not giving them up. Maybe a sign stating 10 minutes only or similar would be good. Seems that customer service seems to be a general issue here…

Great experience. Tasty wine, quality cheese box as well outside at the Smokehouse bar. Good for kids. Live jazz every last Sunday of the month.

I had lunch here. We pre-ordered food but it still took 30+ mins to come out. It came with a glass of wine. Mine was literally a tad more than tasting size. I had the Barramundi (when it eventually came). It was nice but the potatoes that it came with (and it can be with not much else), were not cooked. What a waste of money, it was poor service and overpriced. A little more care and it could've been enjoyable.

Absolutely shocking. Burger was dry and when I asked for some tomato sauce for my fries I got a disgusted look. The patty was tasty (but dry and could give jerky a run for its money), but the burger it's self beyond basic and dry. Would definitely not be visiting again, especially payinf $26.5 for a burger that a local supermarket could make better. Sorry the slice of lettuce and tiny tomato had already been eaten, but that's it. I don't mind paying the price (would even pay more) when you recieve quality food.

You can't go past Oakover Grounds for a family friendly Swan Valley winery experience. Beautiful relaxed and fun atmosphere with lots of grassed area and shade, free pedal boats, playground and garden games. Drop in for a coffee and cake (daily) or a full breakfast (weekends) or lunch (Wed - Sun).

Such a beautiful venue, so sad the food doesn’t fit the vibe. We had the apple cider ribs and the brisket. So so sad !! Ribs had zero flavour which was such a shame. And the potato salad lacked love and depth. Was just thrown on the plate. Brisket was dry, and the lentil mix didn’t taste nice. The caramelised onion was good. The kids chips were also sad and the kids pasta was tasteless even my 4 year old didn’t like it. So sad, only posting this so the chefs can improve. This place would be even more flooded if the food was up to standard. Staff were helpful and friendly. And was a great atmosphere.

Poor “Quality” food served.
I ordered an Angus burger, and got a Stale burger bun... $26 for stale burger bread. Hungry jacks and Grilld serve better burgers.

I would of been better off at Grill’d .
Boganville vibe, was not happy. People running the venue have no idea about customer service??? Everyone pushing at the line.
Let’s dial back to the 1800’s pub service style in the Swan Valley.
We last visited Oakover about 8 months ago and while the food was okay we were not in a hurry to go back. However yesterday we decided to give it another go.
We are so very glad we did. The waitress was a lot friendlier and nothing was too hard for them.Mum had the big breakfast minus egg and it was more than enough. Was fresh and mum loved it. Girl had the Breakfast burger which came with 3 hashbrowns. We bought half the burger home as it was huge. She loved it. The burger was microwaved the next morning and my son raved about the flavour still. I had the Eggs Benedict with Pulled Pork. I don't do runny eggs and asked for them to be hard. They were the best eggs ever and the pulled pork was delish. Still a little pricey I believe however, the food was a lot better than last time and a move in the right direction. So much so that the kids can't wait to go and have another breakfast burger.

Arrived for our booked Sunday lunch. Our table had to be cleaned before we could be seated. The restaurant was a little busy but by no means full. Once seated it took 10 minutes before we were offered menus and only after we prompted a staff member. It was another 15 minutes before another server noticed we were anxious to order. We were told many of the menu items were unavailable so we were disappointed to find that the only food available was not in the staple range. We quickly ordered 4 adult meals and a child's meal. 20 minutes later only the child's meal came out and then we were offered drinks. An hour after we were seated there was still no food, in fact we noticed that the only table in the whole restaurant that had food was a couple that was seated after us. When we inquired about our order we were told it would be another 15 minutes. By this time we were a bit fed up with the whole ordeal so given the poor quality of service we didn't hold much hope for the food. We cancelled our order to which I can only assume the female manager offered no apology or discount on our drinks or kids meal. There was a raft of belligerent and frankly rude excuses. I found the whole experience woeful and exceptionally unprofessional.
Matt
The lady manager was unfriendly and abrupt
Went on a Sunday morning 11am, they definitely don’t do walk ins, only for reserved customers. Even though we could clearly see there was only 1 table occupied and the rest of the restaurant was empty
Guildford News
The service was slow. It took 2 hours after we arrived to have our mains given to us.
Meals were average. The gnocchi was more like deep fried potato gems.
The service was terrible, I think their staff were not well trained.

Its a beautiful day, beautiful place, lovely waitresses unlike what they said in the review. However both paddle boats are broken and reading the reviews they have been broken for ages. Hope they do something about it
Kids very disappointed as they visited oakover for the lake cruising in the paddle boat. The foods are delicious and the wine is superb. Regardless will pay another visit next time, hopefully the paddle boats will be in good working order. One more downside, the flies, better sitting outside..

This place was recommended to me by lots of other friends. As we had my husband's friend coming over from Japan we decided to take her there. The grounds are lovely but that's where it ends. The service was terrible. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and another 20 minutes after that for meals. The restaurant wasn't even half full, and only one waitress seemed to be around. We were advised by the manager that she was busy with a big group who needed their birthday cake cut so that's why she wasn't around. Who cares, put on more staff if that's the case but don't leave your other customers waiting and wondering.

When the drinks came out we thought they were taking the piss. My husband ordered a strawberry lemonade juice for $4.50 which came in the tiniest jar glass ever. I ordered ginger beer for $4.50, thinking it was a premium brand or something a little bit special and it came out as a can of kirk's ginger beer. Seriously??!

I had lamb ragout and the meat was very tender but the ragout itself was bland. It ended up being a chore to finish. Our tourist friend had the rice salad and her plate had this big lump of roasted pumpkin topped with rice and greens and a slab of haloumi. She said that "it was a bit strange" and she couldn't finish it.

My son wanted to go down to the pedal boats and my husband took him down. When they got there they realised both boats had jammed pedals resulting in a very sad 7 year old.

That kind of topped off the day and we left shortly after. I wasn't impressed with Oakover and am actually a little embarrassed to take a tourist there.
Fantastic day at oakover with friends and kids, they had a ball, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was happy, would highly recommend for a nice sunny day out.

What a delicious meal. Best squid ever cooked to perfection for lunch. Also recommend the bruchetta and croquettes. Great view over the lake and great service. Highly recommend.
Cousins
Booked breakfast for my two cousin's and myself, who catch up regularly around the Swan Valley region. The setting was lovely, the food (breakfast) was very nice, and most of the staff were helpful and pleasant, the exception being the manager.

We were told upon entering, by one of the wait staff, that the tables that had the reserved signs were required by lunch time, but we were free to use them for breakfast until the lunch crowd arrived. Fair enough.

When we went up to order, we were told again, by the manager this time, that we would need to leave at lunch time. This time it was not so polite.

My cousin ordered the big breakfast, then realised she hadn't changed the eggs to fried, from poached. When she asked if she could change them, the manager said, no, the order had already gone through. This was not even a couple of minutes after her order.

My other cousin then ordered tea and breakfast and was told, by one of the waitstaff, not the manager, that it would be brought out to her. Her breakfast arrived, without the tea, and when she asked the manager about her tea, she was told 'It will come out when it's ready'. My cousin then got up to get it herself, and came back with two take away cups of tea, because they had run out of tea pots.

Then my cousin popped back inside quietly. She had arranged, and paid for, a chocolate mud cake for us to share once lunch was over. She arrived back to the table without it. They had completely forgotten about it, and she was told that they didn't have any left. Since there were quite a few when she ordered hers, we can only assume that they had put them away, without bringing one out to us. She got a refund and we left after being told once again by the manager that we had to leave the table before the lunch crowd arrived. The place was almost empty at this point.

We would normally spend a few hours, order drinks and cakes and spend some quality time together, but this experience cut our outing shorter than we had planned, which was a shame since the venue is so beautiful.
Food For Thought..
Very nice lunch here, albiet very busy and noisy on a Sunday. Deli board was fresh and generous for four people with fresh crusty bread, olives, cheese and pate. For mains the burger and fries is very big. Pork belly was fresh and tasty with apple cider salad, and the salt and pepper squid was very good too. Desserts are limited but the panaotta was generous in size and very nice. Coffees were excellent using fiori coffee. Table service was great with attentive staff even though the restaurant was booked out.

After waiting in que for 30min was told food was running another 40min later.... Selection was very poor and limited for value. Staff seemed lethargic and inattentive. Ground looks well kept but very sterile/neutered

We hadn’t been to Oakover for some time and with a couple of visitors from Victoria looking for a casual place to eat in the Swan Valley, we decided it was just the spot. It is a rustic sort of place, very open and expansive dining area – with even more places to sit on the enclosed verandas looking out over the quite picturesque grounds, complete with an artificial lake and paddle boats.
Sunshine Perth
We went there and wanted to get some red wines on Saturday as dad loves the ones previously purchased from Oakover Grounds. We also requested a couple of tastings as my auntie come to Perth for a short holiday. The lady at the bar counter saw us and walked away without saying anything. We waited and waited, and in the end we have to call another wait staff to get her back. We requested only a couple of tastings, she poured one and walked away disappearing again, no smile no greetings, and no explanation on the wines at all. I just want to finish and walk away quickly as we have waited for so long.... I was about to pour the second glass, and she came out and yelled. Obviously she was watching us. Anyway, I cancelled my lunch bookings for husband's birthday here at a result of experiencing the poor customer services. I did like their play area and the kid had fun playing, fishing, and boating last time we had been. Very very disappointing with them this time...
Le Consuela
Very disappointing Father's Day lunch. Very overpriced $50 each included lukewarm entree shared for the table served on a cooking tray, burger for mains and chocolate mousse in a plastic container for dessert an hour after they cleared the mains. Bathrooms were pitch black and covered in sand and mud. Waitstaff looked depressed and were so slow. What a rip off! Won't be coming back
PerthHealthyLiving
Good food and atmosphere. Menu is a little limited but dishes were well presented and quality produce used. Ordered the granola & yoghurt...delicious! Free paddle boat at the lake was a winner too

I love the vibe at wineries and breweries in the Margaret River area. They’re often geared towards families and I’d always hoped that the Swan Valley would follow suit with some quality family friendly venues, closer to home. Last year my prayers were answered with the fab Mandoon Estate. I’ve been hearing good things about the Oakover Winery’s transformation into kid friendly Oakover Grounds and so we headed there for lunch to check it out.

Beautiful place to come for breakfast or lunch.

We shared the beef burger and fried chicken wings. The burger delish and came with a sensational chutney. The hand cut chips went to bad either. Although I probably wouldn't order the wings again, I didn't realize they were breadcrumbed and wasn't a fan.

Overall, the staff were friendly, service was quick but they didn't rush you and food and wine were worth it. We will be going back soon hopefully!

Nice place to visit.

We decided to try as we were looking for a good coffee in the swan. We weren't unhappy with the coffee or the beans. We did ask for the slayer machine which did not occur (and no explanation why) and the two flat whites seemed to take exceptionally long for the minimal amount of guests. Having table service, We ordered 2 pasta specials which arrived identical and were fantastic. We also had a burger which was very nice but a bit pricy. I thought the interior was very stark. There was fishing and paddle boats available for entertainment.

I would recommend giving it a try.

Atmosphere: +.75
Food: +.75
Price: +.5
Presentation: +.5
Professionalism: +.5
Other:

Oakover Grounds Swan Valley is located just off the Great Northern Hwy in Middle Swan. Located alongside a beautiful small dam with pedal boats that are free to use, you can enjoy wine, beer & cider, coffee tasting as well as a light meal later in the week. There is something here for the whole family and it is so easy to spend the day away here.

Visited for my Husband's birthday mid-week. Service was a little so-so. I ordered the BLT, which surprisingly didn't come with the T, tomato! I double checked the menu, bacon, lettuce, tomato & relish. Took it back and said there was no tomato in it. 'There's tomato relish' they said, 'do you want tomato too?' Ummmmm, yes! It's a BLT!
My parents both had the beef burger which they said was just ok. The price at $26 really put them off.
My husband had the beef cheek croquettes which were yummy.

My Husband then had a Fiori coffee which he said was very bitter and not at all hot which was a shame considering they roast the beans on site.

The only other down side was the toilets. It honestly looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a week!

We live 5 mins away so were looking for a new local lunch venue but sadly we won't be back. Very very pricy and nothing that made them stand out.

We were at oakover on the weekend a group of 15 being told by friends to go here but we will never be back the food was terrible we had to send two burgers back for being raw they also were rude about it the staff didn't care and were just standing around talking looked like no management what so ever
We however had one girl who brought our burger back apologized and was very friendly about the whole situation

Had lunch here with friends on a public holiday. We ordered our drinks and received them promptly and then spent ages waiting for someone to come take our order for food. I had pan fried barramundi with kipfler potatoes and olives, which was pretty pleasant. Found a couple pits in the olives though. I had some of the sweet potato crisps as well and they were nice and crunchy.

We tried some of the home made popsicles for dessert. I chose the nutella and banana popsicle which was pretty much cold nutella on a stick. Still, anything with nutella is damn delicious.

Good food, pleasant atmosphere, average service. -H

Unfortunately, the chicken wings didn't live up to the high expectations that we had as we found them a wee bit dry, but overall a nice little dish to have. I really enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce that came with it though. Not only did it add a little moisture to the chicken, but was also the main flavouring to the otherwise bland meat.

My gnocchi was close to perfection. I was a little taken back by how small the dish looked, but the potato-y goodness filled me up pretty quickly and I didn't even end up finishing it. The sauce was nice and creamy - although a tad bit too salty - and the mushrooms were great. I'm a big gnocchi lover so it's hard for me to ever not like it.

Jeff's burger was also left unfinished, but for different reasons. He found that the mayonnaise (the same one we dipped the chicken wings in) tasted strange in combination with the pulled pork. The bun looked nice and fluffy and he said the pulled pork was delicious. The sweet potato crisps were also yummy, and something that I could definitely just eat as a snack!

Dissapointed. The grounds and scenery are lovely and there's loads of room for the kids to run around. However the service was terrible as it looked like only one person was taking orders so we were asked for our order and we weren't quite ready so we expected her to come back in 5-10 minutes. Well we waited half an hour instead and that's only because my sister went and got her. Then we waited 50 minutes for food. The burger was cold, the gnocchi looked like some sort of brown gloop, the salad had hardly any lamb and the barramundi was a tiny dish which left us wanting more and to top it off everything was served in these ugly green plastic bowls! Wouldn't rate this place at all!
Bake You Smile
What better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than to pig out in a hidden gem in the heart of Swan Valley. I was really upset that I didn’t bring my camera with me!. The restaurant is situated inside a massive shed with decked out with rustic furnishing. Quite unfortunate that we picked such a rainy day to visit Oakover. Otherwise we could have sat outside and basked in the beauty of nature this winery has to offer. It was pouring so hard we could barely have a conversation.

Went here for a late lunch. The atmosphere and surroundings were quite lovely with a vineyard at the back. We ordered dishes to share between 5 people. Pork crackling was really good. The chicken wings were also quite good. My hubby loved the gnocchi but I found the truffle oil a bit too much which was the dominant flavour. The tiny shrimp with the lemon aioli was amazing and the best thing ordered. The beef croquettes with the mash were a bit dry and were probably the least enjoyable. However it was overall a nice relaxing lunch with drinks amongst picturesque surroundings.

It’s hipster meets funk décor with friendly service, good hearty food and naturally fab drinks from the wine, beer and coffee on offer. You may or may not be aware that Oakover Wines (now called Oakover Grounds) in the Swan Valley has had a bit of a makeover over in the recent months, but I am darn sure you’ll be impressed whether you remember the old look or not.

Lets just tick all the boxes shall we Oakover!
Such an amazing venue, delicious food, great drinks and the best coffee I've had in WA, not to mention amazing service!
I cannot recommend this place enough!
I can't stop thinking about the fried chicken wings & chipotle mayo with pickles nomnomnom.
New favourite place, such lovely grounds & the staff are really friendly. Can't wait to go back!

The renovations are just what this place needed! Perfect winery lunch. Share plates were delicious and so filling. It's perfect for family and friends. Can't wait to go back.
The Breakfast Confidential
Imagine sitting there for breakfast with the sun shining through the vines onto the verandah of the restaurant. The small lake sparkles under the morning light and a wood fire is keeping you warm whilst the smell of fresh roasted coffee wafts past your nose. Sounds like the perfect winter morning out for breakfast doesn't it? Where is this magical place?¦ well... it's been in the Swan Valley for a while but it's had a make over. Oakover winery has shed its tacky old look and has been reborn as the edgy Oakover Grounds.... and I love it!

Blue skies and sunshine. Winter in Perth is a tough gig. Sure the sun doesn’t have the same bite as in summer, but it still does a decent job of providing some warmth if you bask in its rays. GG and I visited Oakover Grounds recently, the rebranded and revamped Oakover Wines. I love the Swan Valley and having such an amazing wine region on our relative door step never fails to delight. I had visited Oakover a few times in its previous life and I’ll be honest, it never really did a lot for me on the food front. But many years had passed so when an opportunity presented to pay a return visit I was keen to check it out.

A fantastic spot in the Sawn Valley that's great for families. The kids had fun on the paddle boats. The crumbed ham is to die for. I want the recipe. Coffee was great considering we weren't in a coffee spot. The log fire gives this place a cosy feel. A brilliant place for breakfast.

Oakover Grounds is a Swan Valley winery that is doing a great job of standing out from the local competition – the recent WA Cider & Pork Festival being one example. On the food front, Oakover is now offering breakfast from 9am to 11am on weekends, and being only 20 minutes away in Ellenbrook we decided to head there this morning to see what was on offer. The Oakover building is substantial, and there’s plenty of seating both inside and outside. Weddings are also catered for, and the staff appeared to be setting up for one when we arrived for breakfast. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and relaxing view – thankfully we managed to find some sun! The service was very friendly and orders were taken at the table, which saved a return trip inside. Cutlery and sauces were also brought to the table, which was a nice touch. Here’s the current breakfast menu, with an interesting selection of items – no boring eggs on toast here (but I expect you could get it if you asked, and there is a full breakfast). Even kids are catered for. You can also see Oakover’s very tempting lunch menu here . My coffee (long mac) was good, and very welcome on this chilly Sunday morning. One thing that surprised me about Oakover was how serious they are about their coffee, although this makes sense when you discover that they share their premises with local roaster FiORi . More of that later… Breakfast was an easy choice for me – the crumbed ham with leek & potato rosti, poached eggs and cheddar sauce ($17). This was a really interesting combination – the rosti was beautifully crisp, eggs were perfectly poached and the crumbing on the ham was super-light. The ham surprised me a little as I was expecting more of a croquette consistency, but these were solid chunks of ham – not that there’s anything wrong with that! The cheddar sauce was full of flavour, but there was just enough to complement the rest of the ingredients without overpowering the rest of the dish. Next time I’ll be try

A lovely Easter Monday. Not many places are open on Easter Monday but were lucky to find The Oakover was serving food. Just had a few meal choices due to the holiday. Our table had the chicken baguette, pulled pork quesadilla, toasted ham & cheese & chips. Very simple menu, but done well & was enjoyed by all. Nice coffee & very friendly staff.
Will definitely return to try the full menu.

There this morning for a lazy Sunday breakfast with children of various ages. Love the new look! Breakfast was outstanding. Crumbed ham?? I didn't even know that was a THING *drool* I'll have to go back to get my own because my nephew was definitely not parting with his. I will be back for sure.

Fantastic lunch in a quirky ambiance. A quirky, stylish place in a nice Swan Valley surroundings, very different to many other outdated places in this area. The food was a good lunch size portion with fair prices. $28 for Barramundi with Kipfler tomatoes was fantastic value, the Barra well cooked, the sides very nice and well presented. The beef burger was tasty with home made chips; the home-made onion rings were the hit. Their Chardonnay is pretty good too.

Highly recommended!. I had a fantastic day at Oakover with my friends. Not the normal menu you would expect at a winery, but that's what made it so great! I liked the casual vibe of the restaurant and the wines are delicious! It would be a great spot for a wedding!

Amazing food!. We visited the new Oakover Grounds (previously Oakover Winery) a few weeks ago for lunch. We loved sitting outside under the trees and we even played some cricket with their sets they have. Food was delish - enjoyed the onion rings and the home made popsicle of banana and nutella. Highly recommend!
They also make Fiori coffee out there and a mate had the cold brew which she loved.
Overall a really relaxing visit and good food.
Buggybuddys Family Guide Perth
One of my favourite ways to spend a weekend is to head to the valley with my family for a lazy lunch. Therefore I am pleased to see that over recent years more of the wineries located in the Swan Valley are catering for the family market. Oakover Grounds (previously Oakover Winery) has recently undergone a major transformation and as a result is now a serious contender in becoming one of my top favourite family friendly restaurants. Set in expansive grounds, the restaurant has a distinctly chilled out, Hipster vibe which is perfect for a casual weekend breakfast or lunch. The venue is the perfect meeting place for social gatherings with plenty of tables, inside and out, that can accommodate large groups. The centre piece of the grounds is a large lake which has its own island accessible via a bridge. The kids had a great time exploring. However if you are accompanied by a toddler who is unable to resist the attraction to water you may prefer to request a table inside to remove the stress of them gravitating towards it whilst you are trying to eat. On the lake are 3 Pedal Boats which are free to use. All boaters must wear a life jacket which are available inside the restaurant. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The Pedalos were great fun but hard work – especially when you are accompanied by a small child who is more of a hindrance rather than a help! The tricky bit was mastering the steering so that we didn’t end up in the middle of the spray of the fountain that is in the middle of the lake. After a trip once aroun

Our favourite dish of the day is easily the fried chicken wings with spicy mayo and house pickles. The wings are steaming hot, the coating on the outside crunchy and full of spices and seasoning.
