Review Carriage Restaurant - Midland

Been here twice now. The food is good and tastie. The hamburgers and steak sandwich really nice. Fish and chips hot and good flavour. The surrounds are over 100years old pressed metal ceilings fire place. Etc.

We came here for dinner a year a ago and a half ago and ordered 2x $8 vege burgers and a serve of wedges. It was all really good. Came back today for lunch and ordered the exact same thing and still really enjoyed it! The pub/restaurant has a really friendly feel when you walk in with friendly staff to serve. It's really good value for money and yummy food and nice ambiance. It doesn't look much from the outside but completely different inside.

I find the previous review not only interesting but also an absolute lie I have owned this restaurant for 5 years and we have never run a Mexican buffet nor will we.if this person had a bad experience I would certainly welcome the chance to discuss it but to post absolute lies they must have an alternative agenda so good luck to them

We were greeted by absolutely lovely staff, the food was wonderful with generous portions sizes (deffs value for money). The parmigiana with mash & veggies and mushroom gravy was beautiful. The mushroom gravy is the best gravy I've ever had! And last but least Very chilled atmosphere!

Great Place to Eat. Went for a late lunch early dinner with family and all meals were of a good size. Seafood basket is huge .We were the only ones there which surprises me.Service was excellent. This restaurant is located in the Commercial hotel which is quite old. But don't be fooled it is a little hidden gem. Staff could not be more welcoming even bringing out a birthday cake for me. Nothing was too much trouble............We will all be back for sure. Keep up the good work

I tried the creamy garlic prawns and my partner had the T-bone steak. We both agree that it was the nicest meal we have ever had in Western Australia.

Was in the area and had a voucher, so went to check this place out for the first time. We ended up having a lovely meal and an enjoyable evening.
The restaurant is in Commercial Tavern, which is a nice old building, from Midland's early days as a railway junction. History aside, it's a laidback place with a friendly atmosphere. Not too flash, but warm and unpretentious.
For dinner I had the garlic prawns, on a bed of rice with a creamy sauce and nice fresh side salad. My husband had the chicken parma, with side salad and chips. Both meals were tasty and fresh.
There was a live musician in the beer garden, singing and playing guitar and getting the crowd going. We had a fun night! I agree with one of the previous reviews - it's a hidden gem. :)

Not For me. This place reminds me of a 1980's tea room! Dingy and cheap. The meals were not fresh. Seemed like frozen food which was then microwaved.
I won't be going back

Fantastic roast beef. We used a voucher for lunch today and could not be happier. The chef warned us their portion size was big and I'm glad he did, so I did not order rice or chips with my meals :). Our entrees were good, I had creamy garlic prawn & my bf had chicken bacon chowder. The chowder had great flavours tho we found the consistency of the soup a bit too thick. For mains I had scotch fillet, cooked perfectly medium rare and my bf had the best roast beef we ever had. The meat was succulent, juicy and flavoursome! The chef told us they have $15 roast special every Sunday, I'm sure I will find time to get down there for a Sunday roast soon. Never been to this side of Midland before and I'm glad we found a hidden gem :)

Never again. I bought a voucher. My friend ordered fish with veges and I scotch fillet with chips and salad. We were given fish with chips and salad and the steak with veges. The steak was so overcooked that the steak knife was battling to saw through it, needless to say, I left most of it. We ordered scotch and lemonade and bourbon and coke and were given bourbon and lemonade and scotch and coke, I'm not sure how they managed to mess this up aswell. For dessert, we ordered fresh fruit salad with ice cream. When it came out, it was tinned fruit (not a good brand by the look of it) with a few bits of fresh pear. The ice cream had shards and little bits of plastic in it, needless to say, we left it. When I said I wasn't going to pay for the dessert, they were clearly unhappy and left sharply to check with the kitchen making us feel like freeloaders. Only upon the owners return was he apologetic when fronted with the evidence. I will never ever go back, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this. This is the first time I have eaten out and been unable to eat the food given to me.

The last stop.ever.. I think I have been to a different place. As my dining room reminded me more of forgotten creepy country train station waiting room. Dirty and depressing filled with smoke from the next door well attended locals pub.
I should have known to walk out when the waitress couldn't tell what the specialty of the restaurant was, and said it didn't matter. We had scallops and were surprisingly looked quite familiar to the frozen section. Well- the main was a larger portion that also looked very familiar to the frozen section in the supermarket, and the prawns were watery. The only fresh part of the meal was an old salad. To top it up the dessert was half defrosted berries with cheap ice-cream and watery whipped cream. I don't think I will ever catch that train again.

Good pub food. Even with a voucher, I was a bit hesitant about going here. But was pleasantly surprised – perhaps it’s changed hands? Instead of scantily clad ladies behind the bar and sleazy types perched in front, it was reminiscent of an old country pub. The restaurant, which is separate from the bar, served well cooked classic pub food, offering generous portions and friendly service. And I second the previous review; the seafood chowder was very tasty!

Started with the garlic and cheese bread and although this is a simple choice it's amazing how ordinary it can be but here it was delicious - we ordered another serve! The chowder of the day (seafood) is delicious. Followed up with the lamb shanks which were the best I've tasted. A diner on another table was raving about his pork belly strips. A surf and turf was devoured at our table with scallops and squid rings a welcome addition to the prawns. Couldn't fit in dessert but noticed a huge banana split going past. Also saw a burger which is an absolute steal at $5.50! Dining room decked out with railway memorabilia and the waitress goes to and from the kitchen through a replica of a train carriage which appears to be passing through the wall. Good food at a nice price in a historic building.
