Review The Black Stump - Mildura

Food is not as good as it was prior to "closing for repairs". Wait staff was friendly but poorly trained. Pretty disappointed with our experience today, especially since we had previous excellent food & service in theFriends convinced us to give this place another try... we had an excellent experience this time. Server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Food was also very good this time. Keep up the good work & food.

Disgusted with the treatment we were given twice at this pub especially by the security guys at the door. We were treated like criminals just because we were holding a bag of olives in our hands that we had purchased earlier from the local night market. We are a decent middle age couple from Melbourne who momentarily lives only half a block away from this pub.Extremely poor customer service, I would not recommended to anyone.

My husband and I drove from Hahndorf to Mildura to stay overnight as we are slowly driving home back to Scone from our camping trip.. We chose The Black Stump Bistro insude the Settlers Club to have dinner. We arrived just before 9pm and were welcomed with open arms. Atmosphere is awesome lovely set out and the rustic look table with the burning candle really caught my attention. Food amazing staff excellent great menu price. :) Diego and Candice thank you so much for your hospitality.. Looking forward in visiting again in the future :) All the Best Rosie & Jason Reeves (Scone NSW)

The thing I enjoy about this place is on Wednesday it's a intimate setting of a quiz night. Everyone is friendly. An if you're a rowdy lot. It only livens up the place but you'll be quickly checked by bellows the quiz master. loving it.

Went there twice and not purchased anything . This is the closest pub to our house only about 100m away. The first time there was no bistro open. Funny because its called "Black Stump Bistro" 7pm and no Bistro. 2nd time my wife and I were returning from the Mildura Night Market and we had a container of olives we purchased. Thought we stop in for a drink. Was told no food allowed. I turned to my wife and said "Lets just keep going home". The security guy than replied in a smart tone "No skin of my back". What a dick. We went home dropped off our olives went to another bar on Deakin Ave without hearing smart tone from any employee.

Really nice venue, staff were friendly and attentive, great cocktail.....ordered the yabby salad tonight, however it was a little deceiving (and I guess you shouldn't assume) as there were no yabby tails on the plate, only the meat from the claws. I wouldn't have ordered this if I had have known (not stated on the menu).

So, let's start with Jack from Bendigo. He's a dude - the real thing. Loved him. Now the food. Chef McDougal is The Man. Steak tartare, gnocchi, saltbush mutton and the duck. All good. Thank you!!

Garden Salad. Thank god. After a shocker of a meal at a mildura competitor on Saturday finally something of quality. The black stump. Nice aesthetics good atmosphere. Attentive wait staff. Food attractive and good taste. Even got nice starter beer bread. On the house... Now that just doesn't happen anymore. I had the parma. My father a porterhouse. My daughter a lamb fettuccine ragu. All beautiful. Compare this to my garden salad joke on Saturday night at mb and its chalk and chesse. The downside? Not the cheapest. 35 for the parma by the time u add some snap peas. But freshly prepared and worth it. I'll be back.

Amazing all round restaurant!. I was so very pleased with the black stump bistro!
The wait staff provided us with a really good and memorable experience with many laughs!
The food was very nice, all of us travel 3hours from the country. We all tried new and different things compared to what we were use to and it was surprisingly enjoyable!
Highly recommend this experience to anyone!

Went to the restaurant for a special meal, the fussy child was a little hard to accommodate from the menu, but he got there in the end. All of the meals were very good. There were many other dishes that I would have liked to try. Just what you would expect with JMcD in the kitchen.
The service was pleasant and polite, if a little inexperienced, but that can be forgiven.
Will go back, worth the money!

I hope Mildura is ready for this!. Went for a Sunday lunch, discovered that the Bistro was closed (open Tue to Sat) but a selection of items were available in the bar or courtyard.
The menu is certainly different to what is normally found in a regional area, but even the fussy 11yo we took with us (who was determined that he wouldn't like anything) managed to find something to order and he liked all 3 dishes he tried.
The food was good and I can only imagine it will be better with a full service kitchen in operation.
Looking forward to going back when the Bistro is open and can see ourselves returning for a casual Sunday lunch in the bar.
