We recieved prompt and cherful service. We did not need to get the attention of staff as they were onto our every need before we needed to call them. We recieved a complimentary starter which was delicious. Our lovely meals were delivered looking and tasting fantastic. To top it all off, it's an easy place to park so there is a lot to like about The Mabel. Wel done to all the staff.
Love this place! Great food - a hidden gem . Vegemite toast with heirloom tomatoes = amazing.
This local gem never fails to please. Varied, creative & well executed menu; humanising touches in decor; wonderfully understood coffee and staff that actually care.
The daily vegan muffins are great, particularly the Spiced Pear.
This hidden cafe is brilliant!
The food is generous and fabulous- an exciting menu . The service and prices are excellent . Great chef
This hidden gem is awesome! On a family recommendation, we've just enjoyed a fabulous lunch with gracious hospitality offered at every opportunity. Because we shared our meal together, we were surprised and delighted with wonderful generosity and two plates of more-than-half per order (baked cauliflower with pumpkin hommus, dukkah, chilli etc etc ...). We will Definitely come again and spread the word ... I hope you have a year of abundance and joy for all your wondrous efforts. Thank you!
Drove 50mins to eat here and it was soooo worth it! Delicious food, fantastic service and wonderful atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.
Great coffee, hidden location - didn't know about this place until I was using Google Maps to look up coffee shops near the place I'm moving to in about a week's time Yet, this place is near where I currently live! Wish I'd known about it before - will definitely be back! Very friendly service with a funky atmosphere. A smile from the chef is one of the specials.
Tucked away in leafy Mitcham, Tim has done a kickass job of creating an amazing little cafe with a brilliant menu. Service is killer. Great for kids (we were the only ones with a child and the place was packed). There is no rival within 50kms.
I'm super lucky that this is my local, but even if it wasn't it would be worth travelling for. Very friendly service and wonderful food. Coffee is always spot on.
A favourite local cafe which never disappoints, with plenty of interesting food options inc GF, friendly caring staff well led by Tim's outgoing customer service approach, and importantly great coffee too. They've rightly carved a solid niche for themselves in the area in a relatively short time and long may they prosper.
Just had the most amazing breakfast, the French toast is to die for. Mmmmmmm.
what a gem - never had a meal or coffee here that was less than perfect
Great place with friendly staff. I've been quite a few times and they always have different daily specials, and they have all been delicious.
I needed to find a cafe open on a Sunday and came across this little spot in the heart of Mitcham. The first sign that I found a great spot was the latte..superb. Perfect temp, not bitter but full of flavour.
The next sign it was a great spot was the super friendly service. I felt very welcomed. I eat Keto so I always alter my order to take out carbs and add a bit more fat. I opted for the chili scrambled eggs without the sourdough, and was tossing up adding either bacon or avocado. Adding both was too expensive. I opted for bacon.
A minute later the gal came back and said that because I wasn’t having sourdough bread they were going to add a bit of avocado as well. That was just awesome. Offering an extra touch of customer service that was offered without being asked. Brilliant and sometimes hard to find in a cafe.
And the final part of my review is the food. Fresh, we’ll-prepared and generous...and tastes delicious. Thumbs up for this place all around.
The chicken and the beef burger were well made, fresh and absolutely delicious. One of the best burgers I’ve had for a long time. The aioli and the accompanying French fries were also delicious. The coffee was OK but not special. We will definitely be back for more.

My girlfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday. At first wasn't sure where we were heading as we walked along the suburban streets passing houses from the 60's I and 70's. Then we came to a small strip of shops and the first was The Mabel.
It was packed. Felt like I was in some Northcote hipster place as it had the same feel.
It's not cheap but the food was excellent. Fresh, fresh, fresh. The fruit breakfast was stunning. Coffee is mighty fine
Staff are very helpful, the cakes look fabulous, toilets are clean, plenty of parking and kid friendly. Wheelchair friendly.
I will return.

Another great brunch venue in the suburbs. Your typical modern hipsters cafe. Coffee is great, no need to order an extra shot. Service is quick and painless. The food is fresh and delicious and a good portion size too. Will return.
This place is a gem. Great food, coffee and friendly welcoming service. They were very accommodating of a large group with children at short notice. I will return
staff were very friendly, we were served promptly. staff made excellent recommendations on food, and the coffee was delicious.
would go back 5/5!!
I'm stoked there is a revival in quality suburbian cafes that pay attention to their food and coffee. This is a prime example. Great espresso. I've tried most of the pastry and baked items - the friands are incredible. I was served by Tim the owner who is so genuine. It has a cosy, laid back feel without the sterility of some other bright white minimal cafes. I notice some regulars and I now frequent this place to get a bit of work done. Am yet to try the mains but the menu looks smart. Would recommend!!!!
Always amazing food and staff are so helpful and happy. Our favorite local cafe. Heaps of toys for the kids to play too so you can enjoy your food and coffee!
Literally the best service I have ever had at a cafe. Food and coffee were perfect. Cannot recommend this cafe highly enough. When first impressions are often the most important, The Mabel has a new customer for life. Thanks so much guys!
I go to the Mabel regularly, I'll say that loud and proud.
This is the first, and probably only review I'll ever do on this awful app.
The Mabel, aka "Tims love child", aka "Heaven in Mitcham", aka "1 in 3 places I'd prefer to go to in the outer east", aka "if you're from South Yarra and you're looking at this, go on a day trip and actually look at Melbourne", is one of the best all rounders I have been to in Melbourne. Having worked in the industry for 5 years and being a #bigspendingmillenial, I feel as though i am ENTITLED to give my authoritative opinion.
What the Mabel lacks in bank account friendship, it makes up for in both quality and service. I have never been to a café where every single staff member is as naturally kind, funny and interesting as the Mabel. It's as though they are all specifically trained to be as interested in you, and keen to be your friend and daily highlight, as possible, balanced perfectly with the "enjoy your food vibes. WHICH OH MY LORD.
I'm a big English breakfast kinda man. But I would pass that up any day for their Spanish baked egg. It'll set you back, but it'll also solve any issues you have in life.
Get a magic, you'll get the goddess Venus personified in an outer eastern suburb mug. Maddie you know how it do.
To Tim and Andrew; y'all best recognize how much of a change you have sparked in the game. Your fried chicken, rostis, scrambled egg, fried bread and wasabi hollandaise have meant that I'll never be able to go to another café and honestly say I'm satisfied. Unless they put coronary heat disease in an omelette, and if that happens, I'm a sorry sally. But. My word.
Tim, Maddie, Gabby and Andrew (and the others), you people make the Melbourne coffee scene what it is. Without the amazing service you provide, it would be dead.
Coffee: 4/5 (no swans, lift ya game)
Food: 6/5 (best scrambled egg, rosti, hollandaise combo in town, you haven't tried it, go home, get a divorce, rethink your life, come back at me)
Service: 5/5 (I'm not giving it 6/5 cause sometimes it's later than you'd like, but it's always served as fast as possible and with a smiling "enjoy our meal")
Banter: Over 9000/5
Price: 4/5 (cause the world can never be cheap enough)
I would waste an hours wages on a fantastic brunch that leaves me happy after a depressing week, so long as I spend it at the Mabel.
A lovely local cafe with nice food, interesting menu and excellent coffee but $24. for scrambles eggs, bacon (no toast) and a coffee is a bit steep.
If your even close you have to visit this place. The food is fantastic and the service is even better. Great people, great food - I cant go anywhere else now and if I do I always regret it. Yesterday I had this fantastic white anchovie dish which I cant speak highly enough of! Normal fare is the Gin Cured Salmon - however its always a difficult choice. The specials are fantastic everytime we go as well. I wish I could eat them all on every visit. Tim, Andrew and staff are the best and you owe it to yourself to drop in for a feed.
This cafe is tucked away down a quiet street in Mitcham. My husband and I caught up with a few friends here and thought we would give it a try (also because we have a friend named Mabel, why not try a place with the same name!). Our friends arrived first and had to wait a good 15-20 minutes for a seat! I didn’t think the wait would be that long but the place is quite small and doesn’t seat many people so I guess it’s understandable.
Brilliant food, and what a warm and comfortable environment. Every time I think I've tried everything, the specials come through with more delicious and adventurous dishes. I've never been dissapointed here.
Friendly, not overbearing staff in a cute cafe with a distressed finish and a clock stuck permanently on 22 minutes to 9.00, Loved seeing the freshly baked items still in their tins sitting on tea towels ready to be transferred to the display cabinet.
Miss and I had ended up at The Mabel after I'd run into a friend at a different caf. My friend had asked if I'd tried 'The Mabel', and that's really a 'say no more' moment.
I struggled to read the menu, perhaps a combination of the script, the paper and the ink working against me, my daughter's much younger eyes had no issue. As we perused, sitting as we were opposite the kitchen's window, it was entertaining listening to the staff's banter. A small, but diverse enough selection of breakfast items was on offer. The trouble with going out with my daughter is that we have similar taste, and both of us just felt we couldn't miss the opportunity to try the Gin-cured Salmon with Poached Eggs on Sourdough. This dish included a wasabi hollandaise, which was delicious, though I didn't feel a hit of heat from wasabi. There are several sprightly flavours on this dish, particularly the radish and pickled daikon, that kept the rich (and amazing) gin-cured salmon and lush egg yolk in check. Good sourdough too.
For drinks I enjoyed the Moroccan Mint Tea, and my companion felt as pleased with the Jasper Chai.
Early on a Saturday morning the place was filling fast - the locals know they're onto a good thing - and the secret is out.
*I have it on good advice that if your breakfast leaning is to sweet, the the fabulous French Toast includes an incredible lemon curd.
I can not speak more highly of this cafe. The Mabel's customer service is beyond remarkable. We first discovered The Mabel when my midwife at Mitcham Private told me to go for a walk when I was in the early stages of labour. From that day The Mabel went above and beyond to ensure I was well taken care of during my stay in hospital. I can not thank the Mabel enough for the yummy cakes and brownies!! The cakes definitely helped with my recovery. My husband also tells me they make a great coffee- which I am looking forward to trying! Thank you!!!
Food is on par with pretty much anything you can find closer to the city, but the service exceeds expectations...very attentive and friendly like you would hope for in the burbs
The Mabel is in a somewhat odd location in the middle of Mitcham suburbia in a strip of offices. The few parking places always seem to be full.
Inside the cafe m, we got the last available table. there is the definite industrial feel and the laid back casual nature of the staff gives you the impression they are confident they know they are delivering a good product.
Importantly, the coffee is very good
The meals were above regular cafe standard and the pulled pork burger was simply delicious.
Look forward to going Back and trying other menu suggestions. Not cheap but good quality meals.
We had a great breakfast here. Will be back! I had the peas and red cabbage and it was amazing. I'll definitely order it again! My partner had the salmon on toast, and we shared the rosti (which was delicious). We didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised! Highly recommend.
Dined here for breakfast yesterday with friends. They are regulars and come all the time. I can understand why - lovely & quaint little place. I was recommended to and very much enjoyed the poached eggs with gin cured salmon - super delicious - the flavour combo with the radish, pickled daikon and wasabi hollandaise with the eggs was so tasty, I would not have imagined eating all those flavours together. We also took home a choc/raspberry brownie which was very nice and rich also. Service was friendly and helpful. Tim, thanks for the kind extra's for dining with the Murnane's. Will definitely be back - lunch items and specials board items all sounded delicious.
Great service, good coffee, nice menu. I had the smashed peas with pickled cabbage on sourdough, it super fresh and tasty. This place has a great vibe, we will be back!
Snug by the corner of a quiet stretch of shophouses, was this charming cafe just off Quarry St on McKeon St with a rustic modern interior and the usual fare offered on their menu.
Staff were polite, service was efficient during a busy lunch period.
Began quite well, was really soaking in the whole surrounding atmosphere. As the cafe became busy, it was not the most comfortable seating arrangement; towards the end of my meal felt a lack of privacy sitting so closely next to the automatic entry door with other tables close together.
The special Salmon Gravlax ordered was well presented, well portioned and very tasty, though priced at a higher range.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Salmon Gravlax with Horseradish Creme Fraiche Caper Salsa and Grilled Sourdough *Special*

Pretty nice lil cafe tucked away in the back streets of mitcham. Took mum here as an altenative to Brittania Mall and we both give it 2 thumbs up. Went with the special -cauliflour bake with a pumpkin hommus and pistachio dukkah. Really tasty, a massive serve of hommus that became a bit heavy by the end from the strong flavours and seasoning. Mum went with the build your own eggs, tasty and well presented. Staff are friendly without being OTT. Grabbed some desserts on the way out for a celebration later in the day.. they are unbelievably good! Fresh baked choc berry brownie, flourless orange cake and the vegan apple muffin were a hit!!
Currently sitting here eating the French Toast (which is delicious). I can't actually fault this place. It's great for a morning take away coffee, a dine in coffee, food is delicious, staff are sooooo nice and the lemon curd friands are SO GOOD. i love this place.
Chicken burger was delicious (had it both times I visited)! Staff have always been very friendly and attentive, and love the social media posts from The Mabel.
Loved it! The smashed pea with salsa verde was amazing. Perfectly balanced with the pickled cabbage and crusty bread. My partner had the fruit toast which he said was literally the best fruit toast he's ever had!
Coffee's were great, the long black had a thick delicious crema - on point!
We'll definitely be back :)

I have been meaning to visit The Mabel for a long time as they have a very delicious Instagram.
Last week I popped in for brunch with my daughter.
We ordered the French Toast with poached fruit & lemon curd, and a fruit smoothie.
The cafe itself was cosy & it oozed hygge. The staff were all young, fun & friendly. The menu had a great selection of delicious brunch/ lunch dishes and the baked good played a very strong game.
I loved The Mabel and can't wait to visit again.
Visit for thoughtful, delicious food, in cozy, cute surrounds.

Great service, so many breakfast options!! Definitely somewhere I would go back to for a special outing. Their unique food will always please!
Oh my goodness I love this place! The unassuming tucked away location, the decor and just the homeliness of this cafe is so inviting :) I love coming here for brunch and it always feels like a secret/local gem

My friends love to set me a foodie challenge, this one was to find a café that provides vegans more options than just avo on toast, keeps the non-vegans happy too and is within a 5 minute drive of Mullum Mullum parkrun in Mitcham. The Mabel is that cafe and it's very good.
Tim and the team at The Mabel catered for our wedding anniversary at home providing excellent food and wait staff.
We can't decide which was best: the Gin cured Salmon and salsa, the Chilli caramel Pork ribs, the Smashed pea and Salsa verde en croute, the Cheese burger sliders or the Sothern Fried chicken on a stick with matching mango salsa? Too many choices, the food was too good to describe.
Tim catered for family members who require gluten and dairy free, as well as vegetarian. Unfortunately there were excellent party pies for the kids left over - that us adults had to finish off. :)
The only outcome that matters is that the family loved it ALL! None left. What more can I say?
I recommend that you call in at The Mabel for great food and ask them to cater for your next event. We did, and we will! (Christmas is just around the corner and we will be asking Tim to come up with something special for our family event.)
Thanks Tim - and The Mabel

Awesome brunch. Friendly service and that French Toast was on point! Great coffee as well👌👌👌❤❤❤😍😍 Will be back for sure! Keep up the good work! 😊
Loved this place! Staff were very knowledgable and the chefs catered to my intolerances and were amazing. Food was well presented and delicious will definitely be back.
Both my friend and I had heard about this place. It's tucked away in the side streets, so unless you're a local, you may never drive passed. Parking is easy. We went for a walk around the block beforehand; the area is peaceful and got enough hills that you feel like you've done a workout.
The cafe has got an automatic front door, which is really wide. Great for a pram or someone who needs wheelchair access. Service was lovely, friendly, and easy-going. The place is decked out with old furniture pieces, which add to its quirky appeal.
Coffee is great. I've had the French toast and the poached eggs with gin-cured salmon. Food is fantastic. It's all well priced too. Would easily recommend coming here.
Cosy and friendly cafe. Staff were really friendly and service was quick. Coffee was good. I had the smashed avo, which was served on delicious hash browns - well cooked and went really well with the avocado and salsa. Nicely seasoned with a kind of Mexican vibe. Really yummy. My partner had the fried chicken served on a 'prisoner' tray with coleslaw. Looked cool, but he didn't rate the dish much.
The Mabel has become my local goto for great coffee and food. The staff are exceptional and always welcoming. I highly recommend trying any of the offerings off the specials menu. A true hidden gem in Mitcham!
Only 11 weeks young and looks very experience when I visited.
Not once but twice I've got asked, "How's the food?" that's a great signs.
Great and VERY pleasant staff & owner.
Not as predicament as far as location goes, not on the main drag of Mitcham, off Quarry Rd, the cafe is quaint, narrow with a long interior, a combo of semi industrial and Victorian looks.
Lots of "vintage" ornaments; the BIG old radio unit, ceiling, weatherboard covered front bench, chairs, etc. great work with the semi-industrial interior.
Communal table at the front, by the window is probably the best seat in the house.
Must check out the Menu soon.
Again, great work, another example of a good local cafe in Melbourne.
Been here plenty of times now and this is my new fav local. Staff always friendly and efficient. Space is on the small size but it works. Coffee good. Menu great and always a good handful of rotating specials. Food is always good. Yummy made-on-site cakes too!
The Mabel looks the part of an inner suburbs cafe (and certainly an improvement on the old dark brick shopfront that used to be there!) - if not original in decor. Obviously a lot of care and attention has gone into the place. Food was fine, service friendly but a little slow, prices perhaps a little steep for what is being offered (versus other local competitors). Looking forward to seeing it develop.
Quaint eatery in the burbs of Mitcham! Was very happy with both the staff and food! Ordered the smashed eggs on potato rosti with a chai latte. Only issue I had is that my dish was quite different to what the menu suggested the dish was - firstly it was meant to have lentils which had been replaced by a kidney bean mix and the rosti were more like deep fried potato mash balls. It also came with a piece of toast which I wasn't expecting but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back to try more of the menu!!
The Mabel has quickly become one of my favourite places!
The friendly greeting from the staff makes a lunch or breakfast run far more special.
The food is always incredible and keeps us coming back.
Love the wasabi hollandaise!
Amazed by the previous review. I must have been sitting in a different café. Still, everyone has different experiences. As I am an unabashed fan of cafes 'hidden" off the main drags this was always going to be a winner with me. Service was attentive and friendly, the coffee sublime and the meal was more than satisfactory. It has a nice feel to it as well. Worth a visit.
A small suburban cafe with nice vintage decor and plenty of street parking, The Mabel is a great place for coffee and a meal. Their lamb ragu with gnocchi was absolutely delicious and I hope they add it to their regular menu! A very generous serving of pulled pork was included in the baked potato. Some of their menu items and coffee are a bit more on the pricier side ($4 for cappuccino, $19.50 for baked potato) but others were very reasonably priced (lamb ragu with gnocchi was $17 and very filling). Friendly staff members are happy to recommend dishes to you.
Great coffee and amazing potato rosti's! Lovely little cafe in a nice quiet part of Mitcham - it's nice to have somewhere so close to home with great food and very friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back :)
All was delicious! Potato rostis were the best I have ever tasted, so crunchy and flavoursome! Staff were friendly and helpful. Will be coming back soon!
Delicious food, excellent coffee and fabulous friendly service! This place has just perfectly hit the mark in its look and approach. We went for coffee, stayed for lunch, and can't wait to get back to try more!
Came for a quick breakfast with my daughter.
Coffee was excellent staff were lovely. Such a cute & homely feel about the interior.
My only quip is that the toast was not cooked enough, it was still soft and I don't really like olive oil and my breakfast tasted like it because of the decoration on the plate. Other then that the eggs were perfect!
Looking forward to my next breakfast there!
The Mabel has only been opened for a week an a bit and I've already been here 5 times!! 2 meals , 6 skinny lattes, 2 milkshakes and 1 desert :) I might as well leave my eftpos card bc I'm working my way through their menu!
Everything I've had so far were delicious, the smashed avocado & potato rosti and grilled salmon (and not smoked) with poached egg were both so filling and amazing. The meals were reasonably priced with generous servings. The coffee was definitely up to my coffee snob standard 😉 and will most likely be my go to coffee stop for days when I can't be bothered making my own at home.
I think I can speak for most people who live close by in that, we are all so pleased that the Mabel finally opened its doors and didn't disappoint! I know I'm one of the first to review the Mabel and didn't upload pictures but just take my word and go and try for yourself!!
Update: Dropped by over the weekend (jul 3) with friends and ordered a fruit toast & latte. 2 x Fruit toast was $10! Thought that was too steep!
We came here for breakfast last Friday and weren't disappointed! The ambience is great - we loved the china tea cups - and the food was delicious. The vegans in our group were more than happy with the menu as they had a couple of options to choose from. We're determined to come back, it's a simple menu but there is so much more to try. The muffins looked amazing so worth dropping in for a coffee and cake sometime as well.
The Mabel is close to Yarran Dheran and the Mullum Mullum Creek trail so would be a great place to drop in on a walk in the area.
Nice little cosy cafe in Mitcham. Very friendly staff. We went there after our walk in Eastlink trail. The mocha and latte was very beautiful. The chocolate croissant was flaky, light and beautiful. Milkshake was nice too. The nice plants, decorations, and many packaged sweets and jams had added up so much details to the decoration of the shop.
Definitely recommend this place 👌
Deadset best chicken burgers I have ever tasted in my life! Food is limited although goes completely above and beyond expectations in quality. Chips are amazing and handcut and cooked. Customer service is excellent and extremely friendly and professional. Highly recommend!!! Have been back numerous times and will continue coming back.
I accidentally placed an order online thinking it was nearby. Turned out they were 45 minutes away on the other side of the city. Instead of cancelling my order these absolute bloody legends delivered delicious pastries right to my door. I won't ask that they do it again, but I will ask that YOU do. :D
Add to that their online ordering system is super easy and the prices were more than reasonable.
🍳🥓🥞Brekky with @tishaboun @themabel__ Mitcham 😍👌 We had the croque madame which was chunky pieces of ham hock in a buttery cheesy toast with Dijon and topped with a beautifully fried egg! Delicious! We also had the French Toast with berries and lemon curd and Meringue 👌 Not to mention the Lattes made from freshly ground Jasper's coffee beans. This cute little suburban Cafe is highly recommended 👍🏻Great for families with kids or couples wanting amazing coffee and breakfast on the weekend. 9/10 🤘
This is such a little hidden gem of a cafe. They have gorgeous food, excellent coffee and the ability to make delicious vegan muffins that will give you food dreams forever. Lovely staff are an extra nice bonus!
Great little hidden gem cafe. Recently ordered sandwiches for a family picnic which had everyone raving! My pick is the prawn roll.
